  1. Uninstall and reinstall build 1.401
  2. Are you proposing this as a new inherent?

    Is this heresy?

One problem I see is that only having 1 attack from the secondary until lvl 24 is going to be painful if this toon ever exemplars.

My Son/Son defender has near capped resists for S/L/E, like 40% ranged def and mez protection. He has zero fear of most enemies in the game, no matter how long they stay alive. Even w/one of the better damaging secondaries, it takes him forever to kill stuff, esp bosses. Likewise for my Cold (capped ranged def) & Dark (debuffs & controls aplenty) defenders who can bring enemies to their knees while I slowly tick away at their health.

Yes, that perception of "forever" and "slowly" is biased by the fact that my high level blasters/controllers/scrappers mow through solo missions (bosses & all) like butter, and my tanks not much slower. Still, perception is what drives the lower populations for defenders, so it must be addressed all the same.
Unfortunately Dave, I bet you are running those defenders with IO sets. That Fire/Ice blaster will still be fine w/o IOs. That Son/Son w/o IOs will not get the ranged defense and while possible to get capped S/L/E resist, will start sucking the endurance bar as soon as you start attacking. The defender issue must be looked at w/o IOs and set bonuses as the Devs state SOs are perfectly fine for all Dev content in the game. Most defender combos will not be even close to safe while solo'ing w/o heavily investing IOs. And again, Sonic blast is the top tier defender attack set; Dark Miasma is a top tier defender primary.

    Respec idea?

Also, sometimes I just want to move a slot or even a few slots around. I can be happy with the power picks but because of an idea to change what IO sets I use, maybe that 4th slot in 1 power would serve me better in another.

This is how I got test on my comp recently. For Windows Only: You follow the instructions to get the shortcut of the cohupdater.exe and added the '-test' to the end in the target window. Then when you start it asks where to install. Let it go thru the routine and let it start to download. Then once it starts, quit. Locate your main CoH folder and the new folder for Test. Copy the entire CoH folder into the Test folder, replacing all if prompted. Now, go back into the Test folder and delete the files cohtest.checksum & coh test updater.prv . Just as a precaution, you may want to delete any files in the folder with these: .checksum & .prv . Then restart the Updater. It may force a verify of files but afterwards you'll only download the files needed for the newest version of Test and be done in a short time.
  7. And doesn't the duration always seem to run out right in the middle of a spawn or, even worse, right as you open up?
  8. Its not all about how much damage each blaster set can put out but what tricks they can bring as well.

AR has 6 out of 9 attacks that are at least typed partial lethal: 3 attacks with KB, 1 attack with -def, 1 attack does only smashing for piddly damage as it is a disorient, and 2 powers that are pure fire damage. .

Archery has 7 out of 8 attacks that are at least typed partial lethal. 1 attack also fire, 1 attack also smashing, only 1 attack does KB, and 1 attack does only smashing for piddly damage as it is a disorient.

Lethal is at the top for most resisted damage type. Fire is on the bottom. AR gives more toys to play with; Archery gives you little pointy sticks. With AR you knock down those robots and then burn them; With Archery, you knock down those robots and then poke these little pointy sticks at their eyes only to discover they have visors or eyeshields.

If you are gonna fight a group with no resistance to lethal, Archery will always win in damage output. Without delving into #'s, start mixing resist and defense in group of foes and maybe AR pulls close AND can be safer at it.
  9. I'm waiting to see how they are gonna work accolade badges when GR comes out. Whether you will be able to switch sides to earn the hero-side equivalent and then go back to villain side and still keep that accolade. I think allowing them to double stack both versions would not be allowed. I find that getting the hero-side versions are easier for me. But we'll just have to wait and see.

See, here you point out you're using elitist defender builds. Of course these builds are known for their overperformance to other defender combos. And Cold/ Ice looks very good in on paper as a very good controllerish set. CONTROLLER.

Defenders do enough damage as is.

Again, I have to ask, unless data to the contrary showing how poor the defender AT is performing and their lack of ability to team (aka blaster and stalker data/changes), will a free buff be given to defenders without any negative consequences? If so, the devs can't take away from our damage, so that leaves our buffs/debuffs. And this is my objection to the OP.
The OP called for a buff to defenders w/o a nerf. If enough players deem average defender powerset combos to be underperforming in the damage department while SOLO'ing, then this would warrant a looking into by the Devs. Note I said 'average' not a given elite build. There is no guarantee that a buff will always be accompanied by a nerf.

Defenders do enough damage is your opinion not fact. We can argue all day/week/month/year. You are afraid of the nerfs that you perceive will happen if defender base damage is raised. Objection/opinion noted. Simply put, you should have stated your opinion and then moved on.

    .

While the discussion has not really dipped into Vigilence, your idea intrigues me. Only problem I see is with Force Field. PFF is probably too good to be used in this way, maybe FF gets to use powers 2 thru 4 instead?
  12. You are talking about Shield set with IOs but leave out a way to get Active Defense perma by lvl 11 for a hero? Yes, lvl 11, with only 2 slots even. Hasten will help but is not needed. Oh, how to do this? Yin's SOs. Science origin has +recharge SOs available at this store. The levels of these SOs are 13, 17, and 21. Yin SOs are one of very few reasons why 1 origin is better than another anymore and of course only for heroes.

do I really bring a whole lot more with my paultry few psi blast to help wipe out mobs?
You are making the OP's point for him here. Why do so many defenders take so few of their "paultry" attacks? Because they do so little damage.

    Quote:
I wonder how just a bunch of buff bots beat a number of TFs if they were just standing around like your version of a defender. Even, that short MSTF run. You mention in the OP about fast paced battles - did you read that 3 of the 8 members were defenders?
Teams heavy with active defenders are steamrollers because of the defender's buff/debuff. Increasing damage has the added effect of giving the defender the pleasure of knowing they can do good damage on their own as well.

They were never fell out of it.
    Huh??

    Quote:
They are fun now. Why ruin it by taking away what we bring to teams?
The OP said nothing about ruining defenders' team functionality. This is what you are perceiving to be what might happen. This would add to what defenders bring to a team.
  14. Right so you are not the average player, would a buff without a nerf make you mad? If enough players think this is needed, then the Devs may address the issue or at least look into it.

[btw posting while doing a tf, so if I miss something again so obvious, oh well]
  15. Well see and they smoothed the lvling curve as well. Do you consider yourself the average defender player? You have been around a long time, is this your first defender?
  16. Let's be objective about defender's soloability. DO NOT bring IOs into this as the Devs contend that SOs are perfectly fine for all content this game has that they put in, outside of the MA. Most compliants I've seen are that defenders do too little damage and they die fast with being light on the HP when soloing. I'm going to name 4 groups where I think most players fall into on this issue, attempting to view this issue from outside the game in a vacuum.

Group A: These are the people that have tried to solo on their defenders and find it absolutely horrible. They might come here and vent that soloing isn't possible. They might be new to defenders or unexperienced or maybe even set their expectations too high.

Group B: This group is your elite defender player. They solo all the time and love it, challenging themselves to greater and greater epic, heroic feats. They have a playstyle and knowledge of tactics that compliment the way their defender's powersets work. They may have the uber defender builds (think the 3D, Kin/*, ... ) and maybe not. When on a team, this player may stand out with their defender as outstanding or maybe even be a glory hound. When a Group A person comes to the forums, this group will usually, religiously bash the "A" person. Their precious egos are bruised and they must strike back. They like, no, adore how defenders work now and do not wish to see a change.

Group C: These are the team defender players. They may have dabbled in soloing at one time. They may even be able to solo reasonably well. But ultimately, the satisfaction of being on a team that is steamrolling is just too exciting and fun for them. You might consider this group elite defender players as well. They are extremely active all the time: buffs are constantly refreshed, debuffs are applied in good time on usually the best targets, and, when all else is covered, they use their attacks. This group will defend their position that defenders are fine the way they are now. No buffs are needed as some nerf will usually follow. They are more worried about the nerfs than whether or not they may like the idea of buffs.

Group D: All others. These are the players that do not play defenders usually or only dabble with them- the fence-sitters. They run the gambit of being decent or horrible defenders. They are sitting on the fence. It doesn't matter to them how defenders work solo or on teams. Some ATs are not for everyone. They will have no opinion on any defender topics unless it may somehow affect them. For instance: a controller may like to see a defender change if they share the same buff/ debuff set with hopes of it porting to the controller set as well or a blaster/ corrupter may have an interest if they share the same attack set. These players usually have another AT that they love intensely.

Now to be realistic. Yes, I know defenders can solo. Those who complain about them not being able to may have reason though. As I solo or team play, I like to see the difficulty set to lvl 3 or 4 after I reach lvl 20 or so. After certain levels, all ATs can solo on these settings reasonably well except for defenders. "WHAT???", you say? Still looking in from that vacuum, defenders have the least self-help powers in their primaries/secondaries of all other ATs with some exceptions, namely Kin, Rad, and Dark Miasma. They need to dip into the Power Pools to help them and maybe their choose of Epic for later. All ATs should be considered equal and if the blasters, tanks, controllers, and scrappers with any powersets can run at these settings, then so should defenders as well. I'm not advocating that it should be made easy but reasonable. It is not reasonable to tell the average defender that if he wants to solo, then keep to heroic, that's the easy button.

Beginner Levels (1-6) All players are on an even lvl with damage because TOs suck. The debuffs in defenders attacks actually can serve them well in this range.

Early Levels (7-19) DOs become available and the disparity between the ATs starts to become apparent. It is more beneficial for defenders to slot their primary over their attack set if they intend to team. If they intend to solo, then they are placing all those slots in their attacks with almost little help from their primary. Getting Power Pools to help here is usually not an option. Endurance issues and power placement picks set aside, slots are few and far between to make a big difference. Before the advent of the dual build feature, most players would make compromises of slotting primary/ secondary and power pools-- in other words, gimping themselves for soloing. Dual builds has helped, but is still not enough.

Mid Levels (20-32): Stamina and then SOs! Endurance issues lighten. Problem is: some of the more damaging powers open up here but you also get some of the best buffs/ debuffs and those tier 3 & 4 Pool powers are now available. Still lots of powers, few slots, compromise, compromise, compromise. And again, Dual builds have helped here. Soloing is an issue as most foes have some sort of debuff-- -to hit, -def, kd/kb, slows.

Higher Levels (33-50): Finally get those slots rolling in now. Able to flesh out all those powers now. 2 more attack powers available but with a tier 9 that usually leaves you without endurance. AH, now the defender starts to feel more powerful! But wait! Now your foe's power has seemed to multiply by a greater factor. Now they not only have those same debuffs but also buff powers- DE, Nemesis, CoT, Carnies, Malta oh my!

SO. The OP has stated that defenders need buffs. I agree. Before the flaming starts, IF the Devs stated that defenders were going to get a buff in HP and damage, would you tell them "No Thank-you, I like my defender just like he is." Would you? Be Honest! Of course not. What would this do for defenders? Lets looks at my Groups again.

Group A: "Woot! Now I have that chance to run solo." Greater #'s of people will be interested in staying with their defender and more would be available.

Group B: This changes nothing for them in reality. Since they were already soloing, they would just be able to now push themselves even farther. Pat themselves on the back for their new heights in epic heroic-ness.

Group C: Again nothing will change for this group. Teaming will still be preferable for these people. They may not even notice the additional damage, but they sure might notice the additional survivability.

Group D: This group might be the most affected. These fence-sitters might be encouraged to play more defenders, widening the defender- base even more.

SO! Increase my defender's HP and damage! Allow the average defender to rise to new epic heroic-ness!
  17. Yes Impervium armor has a unique (or is it, Mids is not showing that it is) that grants +3% psi resist and slotting a full set you will get a total of 6.13% resist to psi. Also Aegis set has a dual psi/mez resist that is definitely unique which grants 3% resist ti psi as well. You can also get some psi resist bonuses with 6 of these sets slotted:

Crushing Impact, Doctored Wounds, 3 outta the 4 Fear sets, Decimation, Call of the Sandman, Dark Watcher's Despair, Ghost Widow's Embrace, and so on.

    Foot Stomp Bug

I've seen this same thing occur as well and just chalked it up to bad luck because normally it happens so rarely. I've also seen it with Shield Charge. No knockdown just a "wtf" reaction from me when this happens. I'll be watching for it more often.
  19. This will only make players that love other ATs besides tanks scream for dual-inherents.

I also don't see problems with multiple tanks on any given team. Players that know their tanker's strong and weak points should automatically adjust their playstyle whenever another tank arrives on a team.

    Statesman TF

LR's summoning. It is interruptible via auto-hit auras and toggles. Some auras even though they require a to-hit check for the damage part, can affect his summoning-- like Blaster Hot Feet with its fear component. Although occasionally he will get 1 summon off, it appears this is due to the "ticks" of the power effects lengthening-- maybe server lag or animating other attacks.

We plowed through all the AVs in all the missions with no problems. We get to LR and we fall apart. First the other tank gets DCd, He never returned, found out his acct was banned. Then, Im trying to taunt LR, but a message kept saying unaffective, I would attack, but he would only chase me until he killed the rest of the team bc they were destroying one of the towers. Then the kin would help the team more then sb me. So once sb wore off LR would catch up to me, drain all my end and i died, then team wipe. This went on for another hour until I quit the team. How the hell do you complete this TF?
Hmmm, you were taunting him and it said "unaffected" over his head. I don't think I've ever seen that with LR unless this is something new now. Was the Dark Miasma Defender spamming Black Hole? A hit would be rare without massive +to hit but it might be possible. Do you actually have the real Taunt and not one of the Presence Pool powers? Taunt cannot miss in PVE but the Presence taunts do require a to-hit check making them problematic against LR before you get some of those towers down.

LR was draining your endurance. Here's the solution: stay in melee with him. With you running around or staying at range he would keep spamming his ranged attacks which are mostly energy with end drain. Also watch your defense #'s, you want them to be 75% so don't be afraid to go get Lucks. Ideally, the Kin would only need to peal away from the team to keep SB up on you-- 55 secs with the team & 5 secs to buff you. Also, I suspect the rest of the team jumped on a tower before you had LR's complete attention. This is the classic example of when the team needs to wait until they get a signal from the tank that its OK to proceed.
  22. <QR> Concerning the new power

What if they go the route of Vengeance and Widow: Foresight? Not allowing recharge to be slotted except via IO sets with recharge as an aspect and allow global recharge to affect the power.

Whatever they do, I was excited about being able to make a scrapper or tank with electric armor and this change only peaks my interest more. Depending on how long it takes for i16 to come out, this may be lvl 50 tanker #8 or 9 or even lvl 50 scrapper #6 or 7.
  23. Yes, different applications of Stealth from different sources will both stack the Stealth portion and +def. My experince in-game with your description of Stealth + Arctic Fog/ SHadow Fall/ Steamy Mist or what-have-you AOE stealth. As soon as the one with Stealth moves away from the other AOE Stealth, that person's Stealth drops for a moment allowing foes to see you before it gets reapplied. Now this is in PVE not PVP and I haven't tested this in awhile. So maybe something got changed or maybe not. And Defense from Stealth powers gets halved when you attack or are attacked.
  24. It will be Fire blast, whenever/if they proliferate it to Defenders. Otherwise I'd go with Sonic. But then I love my Sonic/ sonic and Kin/ sonic.
  25. Ever think of doing this kind of stuff on Test?
