Boiler
You know how it is, right? One day some Super Slimeball fresh outa the Zig comes and wipes out your business, your home, and your friends. There isnt even enough to bury; barely enough to ID the DNA. So you sit at the bottom of the smoking pit that was your life, screaming.
Flicker Nik
Thats how it was for me. When I finally looked up I was staring at an old boiler. I dont know who I thought I was gonna take on, but by God I was gonna have the armor to do it in. They were gonna be hit by the only two things they didnt manage to destroy that rusted boiler and me. Iron, steel, and Kevlar underneath. It weighed a ton. I could take steroids for years and not have the body to move it.
Thats when I got smart or really, REALLY dumb. I put every last cent I have into that grey-market stuff they sell in certain shops. Micro-actuators, electro-encephalo sensors, the works. Now Im broke and may not even have money to eat at the end of the week but at least one superkiller will be back in special confinement.
Young Flicker Nik with a bright, flaming click had surfaced in Paragon City
Screaming Flea
To light up the night with a good firefight against bad men whom we should all pity.
With a flicker of fire and a flaming desire to skewer them all on a stick
He dove in the fray and then day after day he whittled them down to the quick.
While doing these things he began growing wings to his gleeful delight and surprise
But the bad men took fear as he drew ever near for now he'd attack from the skies!
So cheer for the sprite with the fire and the fight who will save you in just half a tick
Since he grew from the ground hes always around to help and defend Flicker Nik.
In the village where I grew up nothing seems the same, but you never see the change from day to day. No one notices the customs slip away. Once we were warriors and now we fish and farm.
Superette
But deep in the mountains you will find the still-secret places built long ago. There the air is crisp with the edge of the minds sharpened by stone temples. I learned to fish, to farm - and to fight. I honed my skill on the hard mountains, learned from masters even more cruelly-tempered by time. It wears you down - literally. But when you leave, the spirit and the mind expand to fill the physical absence.
Krysta VanLeowen was working as a checker at the Superette Foods the summer after graduating HS when the store was robbed by a gang of thugs. When the robbery went bad another checker and a customer were shot.
She became very angry and started shrieking at the top of her lungs. The thugs dropped their guns to grab their ears in pain and most were captured. She crouched on the floor next to the customer and her injured friend and in a sudden, dizzy spell that washed over her like a wave, the wounds of both of them were healed.
Several of the thugs managed to flee the scene and she vowed to hunt them down. She took her name from the store and the uniform is none other than her high school band uniform with a few changes for safety.
Those crooks have long since been captured, and their gang was all but wiped out before the remainder joined other gangs like the Hellions and Skulls. Superette, however, remained committed to bringing others their just deserts. -
Quote:One third of the subscribers would be very upset, one third would celebrate, and one third would either not know or at least care either way. What do you think would happen if the game went back to being like pre-ae times and they just removed AE entirely from content. Other than the fact the market would most likely crash, and MANY noobs (no offense), would leave the game because they would have to venture outside Atlas Park for the first time in their lives, Any comments?
The market, however, would not crash. It would simply become a "truer" representation of actual market forces uninfluenced by AE providing means and motivation to NOT use the market as intended.
More people would be VISIBLE in game zones. As they move between missions they will be "physically" travelling in and through zones, not just stepping in and out of the thingy in AE.
I think PUGs would become more common again - at least for those who are currently avoiding AE. Without AE missions to run through people would have to again turn to IN-GAME content so the AE-phobic would have more people to interact with in the game on a regular basis.
When AE was introduced I thought it was a mistake. Generally I still do but only because I think the general idea behind it was improperly incorporated into the game. The conceit behind Architect Entertainment is that the missions are not REAL. They are holographic simulations that heroes use for entertainment purposes. For the people responsible for providing content for the game it was a boon because it sloughed a large chunk of responsibility for new/updated content upon the players themselves. But the EFFECT was to remove players from participating in the EXISTING content. People still interested in playing through existing content now had a LOT fewer people to team with.
That same effect has been realized to one degree or another with other changes in the game. With City of Villains players who would otherwise be playing in blue-side zones were split off to isolated red-side zones. With Going Rogue they've been split further into Preatoria meaning both blue and red-side zones will see fewer players who would otherwise be there. With AE you may still see their names listed as present in the zone but for all intents and purposes they're NOT there and may as well be in the Rogue Isles or Praetoria.
What would probably have been a better means to incorporate AE would have been to have the player-created missions reviewed by GMs and then made available as actual live game-world missions not "fictional" missions. Perhaps as radio/newspaper missions or maybe issued by a Crime Computer that players could put in their supergroup bases, or access from City Hall, police stations, FF, or Vanguard, etc. The point being to keep them moving around and playing in the ACTUAL game world rather than promoting them removing themselves from the game world for playing within an isolated, fictional representation of the game world within the game world. -
There will still be a delay before you can get back in the game so it can properly close out and clean up various processes - but you'll be at the character selection screen so you won't have to LOG back in unless you're changing servers.

A few, yes, are perfect and have gone unchanged since entering Outbreak. Some I quickly wind up tweaking one or two things, usually because something needs to be a different color. Some I know what I want but I can never quite achieve it so they are repeatedly tinkered with. Quite a few simply get deleted because I just can't stand looking at them anymore.

So, why is it nobody seems to know that a monorail sounds NOTHING like steel wheels on traditional dual train tracks? Go to Disneyland, go to Seattle or Las Vegas and listen to a REAL monorail. Can we please have a monorail that has a proper electric whine and whoosh instead of clackity clackity like a clanky iron elevated commuter train from NY or Chicago?

Quote:So, you have no problem accepting superheroes being responsible for major events in WWII, alien invasions, super-science technology bleeming villains to jail and heroes to the hospital... but the idea of a conventional sports team based in a fictional city in Rhode Island is unbelievable? If Rhode Island has sports teams they probably don't reside in Paragon City, nor would I imagine they'd want too.
Hard to get a lot of attention for baseball when some guy is having a fight with an alien space ship just overhead. Granted, a string of yarn is more interesting and complex than baseball, so that isn't saying much.
This is not your real-world's Rhode Island. This one is entirely fictional and "we" can do whatever we want with it.
This suggestion sort of goes along with the "All things art: Architecture" thread much better but I say ignore the snark responses. There is nothing wrong with wanting to see the cityscape of Paragon continuously improved to at least partly mimic real-world major US cities. That can certainly include professional sports stadiums complete with fictional teams for major American sports. I don't think the pvp arenas count. They don't quite have the look or feel that dedicated sports stadiums convey. Football, soccer, and baseball stadiums are all frequently open-air stadiums anyway.
Even if we didn't have professional sports stadiums EVERY city is going to have football, soccer, and baseball fields in addition to basketball courts, tennis courts and gymnasium buildings that are going to be near parks or high schools and universities. When you fly/jump/bleem/zip around the city it is the ABSENCE of these kinds of places that begin to make it feel not-quite-right, even if it is an enclosed security zone walled off from the rest of the city. Little details like occasionally seeing a movie marquee advertising a movie OTHER than Fractured Dawn starring Blue Steel, a sign for a hotel OTHER than the Geneva, a larger variety in skyscraper and apartment block designs, a variety in bridge, causeway and elevated roadway designs...
This is all stuff that ADDS to the game, makes it feel more like a real place where your characters live. It doesn't have to make you stop and go, "Ooh! Ahh!" when you first see it, you don't need to even be consciously registering that you're whizzing by another basketball court or fast-food drive-thru but NEVER seeing one detracts from the feel of the game zones as part of an actual city. Where ARE the drive-thrus, the delis, the Martinizing cleaners, gas stations, restaurants and RETAIL centers? Where's the heavy or actually backed-up traffic in Skyway City? Why doesn't traffic increase the way pedestrian traffic increases at certain "times of the day"? You may not NEED this kind of stuff to play CoX but the overall experience can definitely be improved by adding more of that kind of detail. -
A good solution might be to change the way the flag works a little to a "set it and forget it" method. The player could set it and then have it remain set, including being set when logging on and off so it doesn't have to be REset when logging on. Perhaps include a reminder as to your status as part of the information dumped to your chat window upon logging on. When actually joining a team it would display an "Already On A Team" flag which would drop your name to the bottom of the lists when sorting the list by flag. Then upon leaving the team it would once again return to where the player had it set without the player having to REset it.
Of course, then you'll get people forgetting what, if anything, they have thier flag set to, but then one more reminder could be included in the team invite window: "Join the team? Yes/No. Team level will be X. You have your LFT search flag set to 'LF Task Force'."
Oh yeah, one more thing. The default should be "No teaming preference set" rather than "Not looking for a group". This would make the red "Do not accept invites" flag much more useful and meaningful for those who genuinely ARE NOT looking for a group and do not want to be bothered making them distinct from those who merely haven't bothered to set a default preference. If you do have the red flag set, perhaps a reminder window should present itself upon logging in so that people don't sit around Atlas for days wondering why they're not getting any invites anymore. -
And my response to that is - IN GOD'S NAME WHY? With but few, specific exceptions, the elements inside a base are as game-affecting as the color of your characters shoe soles and should therefore be as free, yet as loaded with possibility as designing your characters costume.
What items in a base could affect gameplay? Recipe crafting tables, enhancement and inspiration storage, teleporters, med bays? These can remain SG-purchasable items, or perhaps more preferrably items that must indeed be earned by hard work and playing. But adding a second floor? Adding an interior wall? MAKING room for the teleporters you've EARNED. Why are these things that must also be earned by hard work and playing? -
Quote:But the point is to provide players useful and desireable information when facing them with a spot decision without forcing them to go digging for it.Well, while it would be useful, you *can* look up the player (/sea, type in name.) That functionality doesn't exist for SGs - and the Sg lookup at the registrar is useless. I've been wanting that list/interface changed for a while.
As you say, the SG lookup at the registrar is useless. The invite window is just as useless. When you recieve a blind SG invite you have to know the character sending you the invite sufficiently to actually already know what SG they belong to. Suppose, just for discussion sake, that I AM interested in joining a SG. I can play adequately but am relatively new to the game. As things stand it seems I have to TROLL for SG invites, join up, look at the membership roster, visit the base, look at what entering SG mode does to my costume, and then QUIT, get more invites and root around each of them for that basic information with each one before I can make any kind of informed judgement about whether or not accepting and STICKING with this one as opposed to that one is better.
Heck, just making it an OPTION for a SG to volunteer basic, useful information in the invite could only be beneficial to both the SG and the potential recruit.
And again the team invite window. Frequently the invite is going to come from a character in a different zone or too far away from you in the current zone to be able to target them and learn anything about them. Assuming you're interested in accepting blind invites at all it still doesn't mean you don't care what kind of team you're joining and wouldn't be better served as a player by knowing more.
A lot of this would be information that isn't exactly secret - but it's just not being given when and where it's most useful. -
Quote:I'd have originally posted it in "Suggestions" if had initially been able to FIND the "Suggestions" forum. But it seems to have been moved so let's move on.Unfortunately, this is a suggestion, not a bug or technical issue that your fellow players can help you with. For future reference, the Suggestions forum can be found here, though it may be a good idea to frame your suggestion a little less antagonistically, so that it can be reviewed and discussed without aggression.
I don't see that I phrased anything antagonistically. It's just not phrased as begging and pleading, but actually, y'know, as a suggestion/idea. It's not a DEMAND, but a request, and after re-reading it several times I can see no antagonism in it unless you WANT to see it. I can assure you none was intended.
Care to comment on what you actually think of the idea? -
Quote:What does it matter? It doesn't. I just thought it would be nice to have that kind of information to make the decision with. What does it matter. If you end up joining one and it turns out the group's name is "Pantie Raiders of Doom" or bringing up the SG list shows it's just you and it's creator then just quit.
Along the same lines - why wouldn't the team invite window say more than, "Panty Waster is inviting you to join a team?" Wouldn't, "Panty Waster, a lvl 50 scrapper, is inviting you to be the 6th member of a team fighting at level 45," be more useful? -

Would it be too much to ask that a SG invite simply provide the NAME of the supergroup you're being invited to? Oh, I could also ask wistfully that additional information such as # of members, amount of influence, date of SG creation, and other useful data might be provided as well. However, just having that SG NAME on the invitation would go a long ways.

Quote:I'd like to see an attempt at a game with diminishing returns on advancement to hobble those people who want to play 8, 10, 20 hours a day for days on end. NORMAL people can't play MMO's for that kind of time. NORMAL people can play for an hour or two a day at best before they have to get back to their REAL life. As a NORMAL gamer I'd like to someday have a shot at honest-and-for-truly being the first person to see a new game area, fight a new monster or NPC, achieve something no other player has yet. Naturally, my chances would then be no better than 1:X, where x=the total number of players, but as it is my chances are nil and somehow that doesn't seem right or fair.*Rate of progress should be steady. Not like grinding through quicksand, but not so fast that you hit the cap the first week and ask "Okay, now what?"
Quote:*Be willing to listen to your players. They have good ideas to improve the game they love and they are your customers. Conversely, know which of thier ideas are bad and will be detrimental in the long run. -

One more I thought I'd mention - inside Atlas City Hall I get popping and crackling on my audio and have for so long now that I couldn't even tell you when it started.
[/ QUOTE ] I don't hear that. Do you hear it in other areas too? Maybe you could open a thread containing more information about it and let people diagnose it for you.
[/ QUOTE ]Well it's not so obnoxious that I care to spend a lick of time trying to fix it. I've done that sort of thing before and the effort required on my part to diagnose the problem VASTLY exceeds the ultimate benefits. I don't really recall hearing it anywhere else, but that could just be that visiting City Hall so frequently makes it memorable. -
In the enhancement screen or respec'ing the pointer jumps off the enhancement I'm trying to grab to drag it to the slot. Have to click above and left of the enhancement I'm trying to grab.
Also, mouse hovering over both the power and the slotted enhancement will pop up the text for both.
Didn't see it mentioned even though I know it's known. In the Character ID Card screen, in the hero description box carraige returns seem to be getting removed after hitting "enter game" so that when accessing character information paragraph breaks disappear and you get only wall-o-text. If you enter the ID card screen for a character whose description has proper paragraph breaks you invoke the bug.
One more I thought I'd mention - inside Atlas City Hall I get popping and crackling on my audio and have for so long now that I couldn't even tell you when it started. -

Please change this so trial accounts can respond to, but still not send tells.
[/ QUOTE ]Better that trial accounts should auto-respond to tells that the user is on a trial account and cannot respond, just as AFK auto-responds.
Remember that a trial account is a TRIAL. A test to see if you like the game. You don't need full communication or even full teaming abilities for that any more than you need to be able to play to level 50 before deciding if it's worth paying for. Since you're otherwise playing the game for free I don't see what anyone on a TRIAL account can really complain about. Just MHO. -
Seems hover/flight needs re-re-tweaking. Flew into the train and upon exiting the train in a new zone Cerebrawl is vibrating like he's having siezures.
