  1. You should probably wait until you see the Praetorian PPD in action and can tell which powers they have. Until then, it's all speculation. For all we know they could use Force Fields or Energy Aura.

Tried and true. Been doing this for months. You know those blue energy walls around open-spaced instance missions? I call them "flypaper".
  3. If it's made, it should ONLY be for Dominators. Melee/ranged hybridaziation is their gig.
  4. Just pick Nova form and start flying? There's no need for a raptor pack.
  5. Hi!

I'm about to hit level 20 on my Warshade and plan on getting the Dwarf form. So far, I've been staying in Nova form most of the time and dropping only to use Hasten and try to use the Mire successfully, which is harder than it sounds being as squishy as I am. Changing to Nova takes a couple of seconds where I'm open to all attacks and can't retaliate or move. This has meant a couple of deaths in teams without a controller or tank.

Now I have Gravity Well, which seems like an amazing power, but I can't get myself to use it because I spend so much time shapeshifted. With the advent of Dwarf and the second Mire my question is: which form should I start fights in? I've heard about "the Warshade dance", but could someone teach me the steps?

    Thanks a lot in advance!
  6. Ice/ice for Stalkers, please. Assasins that leave no trace because the blades they use to kill their foes melt long before the cops arrive. A whole new meaning for cold blood.

Why don't we have this already? I understand why it's "bad" for brutes. But stalkers?

Then it's possible that Ember Demons whose masters use Poison, Storm and Trick Arrow just have more endurance problems than others, right?
  8. What secondary do you have? I'm assuming your Ember Demon may be spending all his endurance on healing because you the Mastermind don't. Or it may be the other way round, you heal so well that he's spending most of his endurance on costly attacks. COuld this be a reason?

For one, if you used this power in a corridor or some other place smaller than the full circle, the game would probably have no idea where to summon the pets the fall "off the map".
  10. Putting shields on people used to be a pain until I found Westley's super-bind. Here is a version adapted for Cold Dom:

    Quote:
Make a directory called "C:\CoH". Then create the two text files shown below:

    File name: cold1.txt

    g "powexec_name ice shield$$bind_load_file c:\coh\cold2.txt"

    File name: cold2.txt

    g "powexec_name glacial shield$$bind_load_file c:\coh\cold1.txt"

Now go into the game and type the following line to initialize the bind: /bind_load_file c:\coh\coldld1.txt
After that, you only have to hit "g" twice to buff a teammate. It's super easy! Best when coupled with keybinding all your teammates to your NumPad or F-keys (if you play on a laptop like I do), which you can do in the Settings menu.

I don't know about Plant/Cold, but I can tell you my Plant/TA is a beast. The power synergy is amazing: At level 1 in the tutorial, you'll be two-hitting mobs because the immob in TA lets you set up containment, Flash Arrow allows you run up to the enemy unnoticed and use Seeds of Confusion at its best, you have two single target holds to stack on bosses by level 10, the damage debuff in Poison Arrow minimizes possible exp loss through mob confusion, and eventually you get a second AoE hold. On top of that, Spirit Tree covers up TA's healing loophole. It's amazing, without even mentioning Oil Slick Arrow.

What's your concept for Plant/Cold, though? The most hilarious one I've seen so far was a Plant/Rad who explained his radiation debuffs as the ability to give foes massive polen allergies.
  11. It's a creative outlet. Despite the very limited tools, CoH allows me to give a physical form to characters and stories I come up with in just a few minutes of playing about with the costume and powers creator. It's much faster and simpler than the other creative tools at my disposal, such as drawing, and even comes with the benefit of a larger audience who will see my creations and give me feedback. I play for every time I get a "cool backstory" or "nice costume" comment in a team.

Have they? Can you tell me which story arc I have to do? I'd like to see that. Or is it from the comics?

I mean let's comepare the CoV trailer which introduced the Arachnos generals to the Asian Launch Trailer:

    Asian Launch Trailer:
-Statesman Falls into a hold trap, apparently just held but otherwise okay.

-Foreshadow and Spark Blade beat up a bunch of mooks, Rose Star helps with the effectiveness of a girl in Naruto or Bleach. (This is for the Asian market I guess...)

-Mirror Spirit decides that despite the *** kicking her boyfriend and Gackt are laying down, they both suck too much and they need Statesman's help and get Rose Star to help power her PBAoE Mez protection. (God forbid she just stacks the Single Target mez protection like a normal person)

-Gackt and Kung Fu Action Hawtness flip out and try to beat eachother up

-Who stops them and makes everything right? Statesman.

    City of Villains Launch:

-New Villains are introduced with their own unique powers and combinations.

-The heroes are laying sieg to the unique villain lair.

-They can all apparently see through Synapse's SS stealth and hit him enough to take him down.

-Black Scorpion actually PICKS UP A RAGDOLL AND THROWS IT. (Can you pick up your opponents' ragdolls in game and throw them?)

-Villains proceed to kick hero @#$ with Ghost Widow doing phase thing and using Soul Storm as an AoE attack despite it being Single Target.

-Scirocco gets punched int the face before Statesman's stacked rage crashes with Unstoppable.

Ladies and gentlemen, if we are to throw around the title of Sues than clearly the Villain launch trailer gives us examples of Villainous Sues.

Seriously, Ghost Widow has DARK MIASMA as her CONTROL set and has DARK BLAST (Not assault, BLAST) for her Dominator Power Set.
Can someone tell me what's wrong with this?
    I lol'ed heavily. Awesome post.

    Let's look at Foreshadow, though:

    - Shot of him running on his own to the entrance, joined by teleporting Manticore and SS'ing Synapse.
    - He hangs around visible in the background while Manticore gives an order. He seems to think Blasters make adequate forerunners.
    - Group shot of their backs, with Foreshadow central and foremost.
    - Close up of the group, the camera lingers on Foreshadow's face while Statesman nods to him specifically.
    - The group decides it's a good idea to leave one of their Defenders behind, probably because he doesn't have a heal, unlike rad/.
    - Shot of Foreshadow running again, brief second of Positron blasting, then back to Foreshadow scrapping, which ends with a close up of Foreshadow's face looking determined while he sweeps his beautiful hair from his forehead.
    - Foreshadow arrives last to Recluse's chamber, is seeing moving while the other three heroes stand still.
    - Villains arrive and all hell breaks lose, while the attention finally shifts from Foreshadow, who proves pretty ineffective at dodging a corpse despite his Super Reflexes secondary.

The nod from Statesman and the hair-swishing close up seal the deal for me: they tried too hard to include him.

Mirror Spirit may one day be the most powerful mystic in the world, but up until Faultline got revamped, Sister Psyche was the most powerful psychic in the world.

Also how can they be Mary Sue's when they are created by the company that owns the property?

It'd be like calling Luke Skywalker a Mary Sue.
Hmm, on second thought, I think I'm going to take that back about the uniqueness. While we can more or less imitate the Freedom Phalanx, this is clearly not the case for the signature villains, so yes, you're right.

However, bringing out a bunch of new characters, declaring them to be super-awesome and especially doing so by having them save the lead of a series is the classic way to introduce a Mary Sue. To me, they felt really tacked on and quite alien to the game, probably because of the over-the-top special powers. I mean, they gave Foreshadow pleeenty of screentime on the City of Villains trailer.
  15. I always thought W.I.S.D.O.M. was a really err... unwise idea for a set of characters to introduce. If I understand correctly, the four characters were brought out when they opened some servers in Korea, and were meant to appeal to a Korean audience who were less familiar with the superhero genre. In true self-centered Mary Sue fashion, they went completely overboard with adding "impossible" signature powers (like the sword+pistol+lightning or Mirror Spirit being able to melt into liquid metal) as opposed to the Freedom Phalanx who all have somewhat clear archetypes and power combinations that can be recreated in-game, so as to make our own heroes feel closer to them. I would have been disappointed if Statesman and friends were all clearly more "special" than any character that I can make, and I'm really not surprised that CoH flopped in Korea with WISDOM as their main anchormen for the game's commercials.

Still, I'm always for more content, even if I kind of wish the characters could be retconned into being less Mary Sue-like and closer in power to the rest of us. Make the sword and pistol guy lose the pistol and just go katana/elec armor and we're talking.

Edit: To add to that, according to the wiki Mirror Spirit is "destined to one day become the most powerful mystical force ever known" and just take a look at the ammount of detail on Foreshadow's and particularly Rose Star's costume. Tights with a bare shoulder and a special rose tattoo? I'll only want to see her in the game when Jay gives us the same options for our characters.
  16. Hell yes.

Otherwise, just turn it into Omega Maneuver Mk. 2.
  17. I have a wonderful Illusion/empathy, too. Just like Castle.

I tried a lady grey proc and it helped a little bit, but the achilles heel was a huge improvement.

But it is a shame you don't think thugs will work for your concept, I really think you'd have more fun that way.
Oooh, this seems like a nice tip, thank you!

My Thugs/Pain MM was my first villain after I started playing a year ago, and he was amazingly fun to play, both because of his powers and his concept: Princess Stereotype and his Merry Loveslaves. The thugs have become ingrained to that concept for me, which was very goofy, and I couldn't really look at them with a straight face while playing another character. Not after having run up to level 50 with two enforcers called Jimmy Limpwrist and Sissy McQueen. The tier 1 thugs look too adolescent and inexperienced to be making a serious claim to world domination, anyway.

But I already did Thugs up to level 50, and the flavour would really be a lot different. There must be uniforms.
  20. Well, the concept I have for him is pretty solid: Commander Toxicant, a member of a militia of mutant supremacists who want to exert power over the "lesser evolved". Every one of his mercs has their own minor mutant powers, which aren't really enough to be useful in combat and become full-fledged villains, but that hasn't stopped them from considering themselves superior enough to humans to take up arms.

I was actually mostly worried about the Poison set when I started, since single-target debuffs are mostly useless against regular foes, and the other tools seem less than ideal for supporting his henchmen. Now this thread has made me fear that his primary will also be painful and I'd like to know what I'm getting into.
  21. But what if I play around with pet controls? I could send the Spec Ops in on defensive or passive mode, so he doesn't attack anything that can't see him.

Another question: If I set the medic to "passive", will he still heal his teammtes or not do anything at all?
  22. Chiming in: The special Arachnos pieces from the first costume slot are not available in any of the other slots. The costume slot you get at level 10 will be filled with a "generic" character of the same proportions, not with your Arachnos costume.
  23. So... what can I expect from my lowbie Mercs/Poison?

When I started him, I thought the Spec Ops stealth could work well with the tier 9 from Poison. Does this hold any truth?
  24. So, umm, just to add to the discussion. When I envisioned an intangibility toggle, I thought it would be basically like Personal Force Field but letting you fight phased critters. A "perfect defense" power already exists in the game, right?
  25. It still seems kind of wrong to me that the powerset would not have a Phase Shift analogue at the beginning of the set. If Intangibility is your power, shouldn't the character at least be able to get Phase Shift earlier than other characters and without having to use three power picks and one of his power pool choices? I really think the concept needs Phase Shift in it, even if it works like the one we already have.
