Costumes for SoA?

Hello guys and girls,

If I am not mistaken we get Vet ATs now with the new patch? Cool!

So, how does the costume work? I cannot remember where but somewhere I saw that the costumes work differently than other ATs. Do you get to use the Arachnos-themed stuff to make 5 different costumes or is it dependant on what you picked at creation?

I am thinking in particular of going Crab Spider until I get sick of being one of the thousand new SoA that turn up across the land.

yes, but now they are for lvl 20s, right? I have not had a 50.

The first slot is for Arachnos stuff only, get another one at 10, can be anything, same with the rest of the slots. If you take the crab backpack, ALL of your slots will have the backpack no matter what type of costume you setup in those slots. Arachnos (SoA) outfit/gear only available in the first slot.

I've only had my Crab for about 2 weeks now, made sure I got a villian up to 50 BEFORE I17, just so that I could say I did it the hard way

I'm pretty sure that's how the costume options for SoA's work.

so... I could make one and then edit the 1st slot to get different arachnos gear?

Pretty much. Note: soldiers get wolf spider/huntsman options or crab/bane options...the downside is you can't have both a wolf spider and crab/bane armor costume. It's one or the other.

The only thing that strikes me funny is that I just found out a few days ago that the crab backpack stays with your secondary build (bane for example) if you decide to dual build it.

I'm even more surprised that this is the accepted norm for quite a long while, meaning the devs couldn't be bothered to tweak the coding somehow so it won't show up while being a bane spider. Some SoA guru can correct me, but I've read this has been the case since SoAs were introduced! Nice devs

Chiming in: The special Arachnos pieces from the first costume slot are not available in any of the other slots. The costume slot you get at level 10 will be filled with a "generic" character of the same proportions, not with your Arachnos costume.

This is the deal that bugs me a lot !!
But i do understand not enough DEV working to fix it .
So seems to workaround they need to remove the onzoning script thats ad crab backpacks.
Thats a lot of work :P

But other side might free up lag WOOT all for LAGGG freeing !!!
So i dont see the disadvangetages of making different animation and backpacks for crabspiders and bane .
Especially now they become common in going for rogue .

So can we get the original back pack with 4 ribs back .
And a crab back that sticks onto your back once you get a crab power or armour .
when without you lose it .

First mistake: Assuming something didn't happen due to the developers being lazy. That assumption alone makes it not worth continuing any sort of dialogue with you. But I'm in a good mood thanks to I17, so I'll humor you.

Not only did I beta test the VEATs, but I focused on testing Crab Spiders. Having spoken with Back Alley Brawler, JLove, and a few others quite often during that time, I can tell you that the backpack was a major source of frustration. In fact, it took quite a bit of closed beta just to get it working right -- where it would show up at all; where it could be customizable; where the textures would be properly aligned; where all the attacks utilizing it would properly emanate from it; etc. And the fact that it doesn't vanish if you make a Bane or huntsman build is an unfortunate necessity, brought about by the technical difficulties that arose in trying to get it to work correctly for player characters, and in particular dual-build Spiders.

Could it be fixed now? Don't know; there are certainly more programmers on staff now than there were when the VEATs were introduced. However, right now, everyone is busy - big shock, I know - with the BIG stuff (i.e., Going Rogue and the next few issues beyond that). And if it even were possible to fix the Crab backpack now, it likely isn't a high enough priority to warrant having time and manpower devoted to fixing it anytime in the near future. So as much as it would be a welcome change, you're just gonna have to do what the rest of us have done who've had VEATs since they first became available: live with it.

Another Costume based Info for VEATs:

You can not use any weapon that is unlocked. You are currently stuck with the maces/guns or widow claws. No talsorian/vanguard items, no ruularu versions, nothing.


6th Costume Slot:

You are fortunate in that due to the unlock of a costume at L10 and holiday salvage you can indeed get a 6th costume. However you can NOT edit this costume once you've unlocked it. It is a duplicate of your second costume slot (the one accessed with /cc 1). So you had better like your second costume before doing your 6th unlock.

Once unlocked you can change your second costume slot without affecting the 6th costume. You can change to this costume via /cc 5 command.

I solved this problem by having a Bane and a Crab instead of "cheating" it with a dual build. Hey, if 1 VEAT is good, 2 are better and 4 are best.

What about the back details available for Bane/Crab costumes at creation? Does the new Crab backpack fit over them or does it replace it? (maybe that first one is for Bane Spiders?)

And to double-check : I can only have one Arachnos costume but I can go to the tailor at anytime to get it changed?

Yes your first costume slot is solely composed of arachnos parts that you can change at any time. Jlove mentioned something along the lines that the Arachnos costume slot is like a mini version of the costume creator solely designed to just be arachnos parts or some such.

The backpack is going to cover whatever was on your back. No other way around it. I can't recall offhand how well it blends in with the pure crab parts.

At creation, if you decide to give your character the Bane/Crab armor instead of the Huntsman armor, they're gonna have the Bane backpack. You can't give them the Crab backpack unless you decide to go the Crab route at level 24.

And yes, while your first costume slot is devoted to your Arachnos uniform, your can alter it at a tailor.

Thought I would semi-hijack this thread rather than start yet another costume thread.

Any chance of making some Arachnos parts available across all costume slots? I know a lot of the parts do not fit with the current regular character models and would not be able to port (probably the gloves since they have fingers, the chest details with elaborate back pieces and so on).

However, maybe we could get some pieces, such as:
-Arachnos Helmets: Just like the Vet Reward options, but VEATs can customize the colors.
-Arachnos Bracers: Just like the gloves the regular Soldiers get, but they would be mounted on our standard giant mitten hands.
-Arachnos Chest Details: Similar to the chest details available now, but without the back pieces that are normally attached.
-Arachnos Belt: Seems simple enough.
-Arachnos Boots: Those soldiers have some really, really nifty boots! It's a shame we only get to use them on our first costume, would love to see some of these ported over.

I realize this is a pipe dream and we will never have the ability to mix and match all the Arachnos uniform pieces on our other slots, but just the ability to use a few pieces would be awesome. Thanks!

The answer is...No!..sadly.

I asked about this in closed beta when veats were first introduced. I went into demo edit mode and compiled quite a few screenshots to show what parts would clip / not clip with many other costume parts in an attempt to get these added to the normal costume slots for us to use. The idea was shot down with basically "veat costumes are for the veat slot only". So it is highly unlikely that this will ever happen.

Yeah, I'd love to see those screenshots. I wonder if they're purposefully not releasing those pieces because Kheldians can't have their signature sashes, almost as a way of maintaining some parity? I think that would be an awful reason, but a reason nonetheless.

I'll try to get some pics up of my new Huntsman, his name is Magna Carta. I 'd love to be able to use the Arachnos gloves, belt, and boots on his other slots, so here's to hoping I guess.
