Having a 50 soldier and 50 widow as 2 of my most used characters, I love teaming with fellow VEATs. Even the weirdos who didn't take TT powers at all and are mainly good as veng bait because their defense is sitting at 23% (20% from my TT:M + M, 3% from their combat jumping).

Quote:IIRC I think I did a hero tips mission eerily similar to this last night...After taking a few moments to recover, and sipping on the double shot coffee provided by Posi, Castle's eyes suddenly widen. He jumps out of his chair with renewed energy and barrels past the crowd of confused devs that have gathered around to watch the latest episode of senior dev meltdowns. To the surprise of all he streaks straight past the men's room and crashes into the door of the Janitor's closet. He frantically flips open the latch and swings open the door.
A collective gasp from the crew is shared when, inside the closet, they see Castle's entire powers team and two system admins huddled in the corner. They are bound by frayed cat.5e network cable, blindfolded, and bared from the door by a series of mops and brooms. Posi and War Witch along with a few others rush past Castle, pushing him out of the way, and free the captured employees. As soon as they are free, they burst out and make a run for it. Two of them rush to the restrooms, the rest make a bee line for the exit. BackAlleyBrawler manages to catch one of them and implore him to explain what happened.
With tears streaking down her dirty, disheveled face, the victim manages only a few words before slipping out of BaB's grasp and running: "He made us do.... terrible... things..." -
Quote:There's bound to be some instances of "dey tuuk are jerbs!" but barring master of taskforces I notice I find myself not caring about what the other guy's AT is. If I'm broadcasting "LFM for hero/vig/rog/vil missions!" or "LFM for doors!" or whatnot, the first 7 people who send me tells gets invited. As for the rest of the discussion: Tanks are on the way out barring SF and TF's and some AV's. I said it a while ago and I find it to be coming true, at least in a lot of PUGs. There are just too many infringements now upon their niche, and it will get worse once those n00b MM's and Br00ts get cracking.
3 tanks? 4 tanks? 5 tanks and a wombat? Sure! Let's go!
PS: I find most tanks I invite actually do decent damage and are very sturdy. Most times we all tend to scatter inside the mission anyways make it go faster. Only type I'm hesitant to invite again are the Haelzorz ones who only took emp heals and ra (no fort, CM, dingleberry, etc) and just sit back and spam heal aura. -
I have to admit, facing off against the clark kent copout with my fortunata ranks among the best times in my cox experience. You think unstoppable is gonna save you huh?
-
This is what CoX is doing right imo. With each new zone they create, they place harder and harder enemies for people to face. Comparatively speaking, Praetoria's a lot tougher than Atlas/Galaxy or Mercy Isle. Level for level, they've made better mobs and better missions in Praetoria.

crab spider soldier + crab spider training?
I had a storm/dark defender that was absolutely wonderful. Great cone immobilize attack + freezing rain + properly used hurricane. Fun times.
WM + WP brute as well. Great mitigation via crowd control, making the secondary WP be that much better through the wide reliable KD. -
I've had heroes follow my cloaked bane while I was looking ahead of the group in some door missions. I'm talking about non cloaked heroes, and not the usual stealth + SS guys that usually like to scout like my bane.

Quote:Granted, but my point was that villains are exposed to both them for day 1. Heroes are only exposed to Arachnos. To be fair, level 1-10 Longbow and Arachnos are more-or-less Hellions with different skins. I mean, the minions are even weaker, lacking the varied melee weapons your average thug packs. Maybe the lieuts are a mite tougher. Arachnos start getting tough in the teens with end-draining Mu and hold resistance, whereas Longbow only really take off at higher levels with Spec-Ops and sonic grenades.

Quote:To expand on this point, I find the defenders' new inherent great solo and extremely disappointing when I team up.From a purely stylistic viewpoint, I personally find "SCOURGE SCOURGE SCOURGE SCOURGE" rising from my enemies more satisfying than an invisible increase in debuff strength.
With my corruptors, I always know my damage is going to be X or Y, not counting scourge. Weaker debuffs/buffs? Sure, but I'll spend less time worrying about those since the mobs are dead faster. Death is the best debuff of all.
With my defenders in teams, I'm always asking "what happened to my blasting power?!" even though I know the answer already.
In solo and team situations, I find corruptor / MM / controller buff/debuff sufficient, and both my corruptors and MMs (don't have any trollers past 10) have very noticeable contributions to the damage output.
EDIT: To sum it up, I got Plainguy's sig. It's a quote from Silas and it's my general attitude to defense and blasts:
Silas - faster you can kill stuff the less survivability you need. You only need as much survivability as is required to kill the dudes before the dudes kill you. -
Quote:I agree with you here, but I'll take it a step further. Before GR, I don't think LB were ever prevalent enemies heroes had to fight against, if they fought against them at all.I have always maintained that Longbow are the baddest bunch of enemies in the game, causing Red-side to be harder as you get your Longbow love starting in Mercy.
I'm also curious to see how the Heroes are handling the increased debuffs and aoe-mania that is Longbow.
Villains had to go up against LB and Arachnos from the get go. If you chose Burke over Kalinda, Arachnos is in your very first mission.
Honestly it's a toss-up for me, which group is harder. My crab spider doesn't really flinch when he sees a pack of 0/8 LB with a bunch of Nullifiers. However, I'm 110% alert when facing my own (Arachnos). I hate Tarantula Mistresses and their massive -def debuff that always always hits meOnce I have that psy debuff on, I can forget about my near capped defenses.

Quote:I don't think I could vote with you there. I see your point, and in a single player game, having an AT that's just plain better power-wise than anything else would be cool. In an MMO? That would defeat the purpose of getting different classes since everyone would either be epic A or B, or else they'ed get epic A / B over the other ATs.I know and I have plenty of them. I have a "shapeshifter" that's meant to be just downright evil and malicious. Sociopath sort of person. I just sorta want.. over the top powers I guess that fit the theme more? Or maybe more of "epic" arch types for each Origin that could be useable for concept. Not JUST "Natural" "science". Maybe their should be an "Epic" or "unlockable" for each one. Still no one has any feedback on what I actually said? :P Powerwise?
-
In my opinion "epic" isn't the word for the villain and hero unlockable ATs. Let me see if I follow your line of thinking here:
You want epitome of good and evil ATs and the feeling of "hey, I'm playing this badass devil from down under (Australia?) or this angelic goddess from on high"
You can do that right now with any of the other ATs. I've seen illusion/empathy controllers with angelic costumes and blue light power colors. I've seen fire/DA or other demonic themed villains out there named dark-darkitty-mcdark-darkilicious-darkmaul names.
You can be as good or evil as you want with customizable power colors, costumes, etc.
The unlockable ATs are just that, unlockable. Whoever coined up the term Epic Arch-Type was off the mark. -
Quote:You're right, my SoA is just a normal person. No superpowers, no heat vision, no conjuring demons from the nether to do his bidding.
Give me Arachnos for instance: It makes an interesting story line. Definatly great ATs with their own perks and specialities. A lot of fun to play. But come on, you're AWOL arachnos soldiers. How many of you guys have killed wolf spiders and blood widows in the hundreds area? It isn't hard to get the badges for those particular enemies. You're just an AWOL version of them, what makes you so special and hardcore?
He's got his rifle. He's got his grenades. He's got his training. And he still regularly goes up against superpowered PPDs, signature heroes, the most badass, overpowered, pinnacle of perfection beings out there.
And he wins.
That's what makes him so special and hardcore. Thanks for asking -
Quote:Your second statement.I thought all powersets could have dualbuilds? Or are you just refering to the fact that a widow can either go fortunata or night widow build, which are a bit different from each other than say an em/shield tank and an em/shield tank?
Tank = tank whether he's build 1 or build 2.
Widow can either be a psychic dom/blaster with a crashless defender nuke, or be one of the hardest hitting claws/SR stalkers out there.
I sometimes feel like it's cheating to go from fort to NW, or huntsman to bane on the same character. -
Quote:Sorry, but I felt the need to emphasize this factAlternatively, you could use dual builds to have both a Night Widow and Fortunata on the same toon. That's what I did with mine. Both builds are IO'd out. Perma Mind Link on the NW and softcapped ranged Defense on the Fort. Love 'em both.
That's the huge bonus of VEATs. You can play a claws/SR scrapper/stalker (widow) for as long as you want. When you're tired of melee, flip to spec 2: the psychic dominator/blaster with incredible defenses (fortunata). No need to log out and jump into another character. No need to get that accolade twice. No need to badge hunt (if you're into that) all over again with toon #2.
This level of flexibility is what made me play soldier/widow. -
Yeah I think the person in charge of creating new NPCs / creatures must have gotten a phone call from an ex lover; the ex bringing up all kinds of long dead demons from the past.
-
Quote:Yup, /jealousMy 50 Ill/Kin was so happy after customizing his colors. I never expected the illusions to come out with the new colors. Pop, pop, pop! Orange and purple illusions!
And speaking of which... aren't some phantom army pets women? It kinda goes back to the "why can't we have some minions be female?" debate. Hellions have integrated new women bosses (thugs). We see women serving in arachnos and in longbow (mercs). The new Clockwork (bots).
I'm not saying there won't be people making "pimp MMs," but if female phantoms are allowed to be conjured up and fight alongside male phantoms, why can't we have a random arsonist or medic be a gal? Seems to me that regardless which camp you're on about this issue, it's already in the game.
All girl sets (ala knives or carnies)? That's another story. -
Slight deviation from this, but I'd like to get a paragon PD MM set, since we can now have heroic MMs. Doesn't have to be paragon PD, but it would be cool to have different pets for each tier.
T1: Normal cops; humans
T2: PPD hardsuits or something equivalent; robots
T3: Superpowered cop; ala longbow warden or kheldian PPD -
Quote:I agree, the more aggressive nature of red side ATs were why I originally played red side almost exclusively. One of the best things about villain teams is that players often tend to play as a soloist with some (unreliable) support from teammates. Keeps things interesting, speeds up XP gain, and maintains some social interaction.
Best part of playing red side (before GR)? When you have a complete pug of strangers and we all split off to different corners of the map. -
Getting back to mm pets...
Quote:I haven't played illusion past 8. Was going to try and get one to at least mid 20s, but never could. I see them nowadays having these customized phantom armies, and I have to admit I'm a bit jealous.Pimp theming does not seem to be the limitation; all of the devs' answers have come down to this: The engine finds NPC customization to be problematic.
Why? It seems pets, along with granite stone armor and the forms for kheldians are very simplistic. They just use an NPC model in a library, and the system doesn't seem to be set up now to handle customization of the NPC library.
The thugs for masterminds, for instance, use differing models. Yet there's no way to make sure your arsonist always looks the same. It just doesn't specify.
That said, It's been taking a while for the next round of customization comes out. I very much hope that if they can solve the kheldian/granite issue, they can also give masterminds the ability to manage their troops' style to some extent. -
I rolled a thugs/traps MM for GR with the intent on taking her blueside. She's level 32 now, just leveled up off a heroic tip mission in bricks.
My mastermind on PuG story? Was teamed with several controllers / defenders and a blaster (might have been a corruptor, can't remember). Pet brute was sitting there whacking away at stuff.
One of my teammates says "dude Bruiser, learn to tank properly! Aggro's all over the place!" -
I wasn't even thinking of female henchmen and all that it may imply. I'm just wondering if we can have different uniforms for the soldiers, different models for robots (all male :P), different gang organizations like hellions/skulls for thugs, etc.
-
Just wondering about this today. Will MMs get different skin options for their pets? Say, the option of having council/5th column or malta robot pet skins for robotics. Or Hellion/skulls /resistance skins for thugs. Maybe a longbow theme for mercs.
I've got my necro/dark MM at 50, and while I'm not really wanting a new skin for her creations, I do have a ninja/dark and thugs/traps that want some sort of skin customization for their minions. -
I'll share my build tonight, but the big thing about mine is that I don't have the 2 pets we get access to at 38.

Quote:Solo, you'll spend more time killing your enemies (lower damage) but you're leagues ahead in terms of survivability.Out of curiosity, has anyone compared the damage of a huntsman build @ 50 to a comparable blaster build @ 50?
I've always liked the mez protec and pets on my huntsman build. Just not sure how he compares side-by-side for dmg against blaster builds. My guess is less than my Fire/MM but more than, say, AR/DP/other?
My usual trick:
Venom > frag > heavy burst. WAWG somewhere along that chain because I tend to charge into melee to let them encircle me (go go relatively easy to get def cap).
Teams? I'm going to go ahead and say we're corruptors with buff auras and the potential to have -40% res debuffs.
My current buffs / debuffs:
TT: maneuvers + maneuvers (20% defense to everyone)
TT: assault + assault (30% +damage to everyone)
TT: leadership (can't remember what the to-hit is)
Venom Grenade (-20% res that's aoe and does good damage to boot)
Surveillance (-20% res single target)
All the above seems like a great package to me.
