How about Plant/Cold?
Putting shields on people used to be a pain until I found Westley's super-bind. Here is a version adapted for Cold Dom:
Make a directory called "C:\CoH". Then create the two text files shown below: File name: cold1.txt g "powexec_name ice shield$$bind_load_file c:\coh\cold2.txt" File name: cold2.txt g "powexec_name glacial shield$$bind_load_file c:\coh\cold1.txt" Now go into the game and type the following line to initialize the bind: /bind_load_file c:\coh\coldld1.txt |
I don't know about Plant/Cold, but I can tell you my Plant/TA is a beast. The power synergy is amazing: At level 1 in the tutorial, you'll be two-hitting mobs because the immob in TA lets you set up containment, Flash Arrow allows you run up to the enemy unnoticed and use Seeds of Confusion at its best, you have two single target holds to stack on bosses by level 10, the damage debuff in Poison Arrow minimizes possible exp loss through mob confusion, and eventually you get a second AoE hold. On top of that, Spirit Tree covers up TA's healing loophole. It's amazing, without even mentioning Oil Slick Arrow.
What's your concept for Plant/Cold, though? The most hilarious one I've seen so far was a Plant/Rad who explained his radiation debuffs as the ability to give foes massive polen allergies.
Cold Domination is a very powerful but late developing set. I have never actually seen a Plant/Cold Controller but the combo should work well. Stick with it. Once you get Heat Loss endurance more or less becomes taken for granted. If you're soloing you may struggle to keep your pet alive without a heal and weak-ish shields, but overall the combo should do great as a troller/debuffer. I don't see it as much of a farmer.
For concept, you consider some kind of arctic character who summons frozen vines and such (colored white).

Plant/Cold would be a excellent idea.I can solo 8 man missions with my Defender, and I used to have a Plant/Rad on my old account, so I know the particulars of Plant Control as well.
Plant/Cold is a good idea, if you can get over the hump till you get Sleet. The Sheilds by the way are more then enough to keep your Plant Pet alive to where he could be summoned again right after he dies, unless your using him as a Tank, then you will fail in keeping him alive.

Though I think the concept might work better as a Plant/Icy dominator. I'll have to think about it some more. (And it's not like I really *need* another alt anyway...)

Plant/Cold is fantastic. It's not even that late of a bloomer (get it?) since once you pick up seeds, you're immediately an asset to any team (not to mention your shields). Soloing takes a bit longer, but what controller set doesn't? I'll say that after 35 and Sleet, Seeds, Roots, Creepers, Sleet & your pet makes short work of x8 spawns all by your lonesome. Even before then, Seeds, Roots & Creepers are a potent combo, but Ice Storm from Cold will keep mobs grounded for Roots to take hold. Post 38 and Heat Loss, and you'll kiss end troubles forever.
Plant/Rad or Kin of course works well too, but I find Plant/Cold has some nice synergies (Ice Storm, esp, since many of your Plant powers don't work on fliers).
An Offensive Guide to Ice Melee
So, I've been contemplating Plant Control for a while, since it sounded like an interesting set, but I need a character concept too if I'm going to stay interested. While thinking about the secondaries I thought of something that's at least hilarious to *me* for Plant/Cold...
I'm not sure how well it would actually work though. Don't have any experience with shield-using secondaries, and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of discussion or guides on cold domnation.
Anyone have any advice for me?
