Personally, I think super reflexes would be best for Dance Dance Revolution.

    *cough*

    (sorry ... couldn't help myself ...)
  2. If a costume creator and Mid's could run on a tablet, I think I could scratch a CoH itch with just those 2 programs.

I imagine that the interface overhaul would be a bear...

I'm hoping so. In my mind, the ease of getting on a team and participating in the community is part of the game's first impressions. I would think that a good showing would lead to better player retention and then maybe a few purchases / subscriptions. If they believe that, then there's plenty of motivation to keep going with it.

Left in its current form, I'd tend to agree. But I haven't found any indication yet that the devs are abandoning the development of the LFG tool.

This. In 7 years I haven't posted in the forums more than 50 times. But I have a thing or two to say about this topic.

If, as Forbin says, control of team formation goes beyond level and build, then having the game implement a large number of filters on an ever changing set of data becomes burdensome. Basing automatic invites without enough refinement would leave a number (large or small I can't say) of people abandoning an LFG tool.

So I'll turn my suggestion around a bit ...

    1. Have the players that are LFT join the queue for multiple, specific events. Leave a space for a short note to be included. (e.g. Have Clarion for UG). Have a list of events that are in progress and are open to them joining (minus those being led by people on the player's ignore list).

    2. Have the players that are starting teams or LFM see a list of players LFT for the event they are leading minus everyone on their ignore list.

    3. That list should include character information sortable by: toon name, global name, level, AT, primary set, secondary set, notes that the leader may have on the character, LFT note, and status (more on status below). A button to invite is next to every name that shows up.

    4. A person who gets an invite will have a pop up message show up "<leader> has invited you to <event> running at level <difficulty setting>. You are <x> of <max number of players>. Do you accept?." There is a <15> second window to reply yes or no.

    5. The status column on the LFM screen would show "considering other offer, refused, accepted, no response yet, timed out." If a person refuses then the name is greyed off the list and can't be sent another invite from this tool for that particular event to prevent people getting spammed with invites. If it was refused accidentally, then an invitation can be sent using /invite. A refresh button to update the list might be needed.

    6. After the requirement for the minimum number of people is met, A button can become active to start the event. Options to leave the remaining slots, if any, open for people who want to join in progress events are available.

As I write this, it sounds like a modified version of the "Find Member" feature under the Team tab with a bit more focus and refinement. Instead of getting a blind invite wondering what the heck it's for, all that information should be given on the opening pop up for an event that was signed up for. If someone joins the queue for a particular even they should be open to receiving a pop up for an invitation to that event.

Basically the tools for easier filtering beyond ignore lists and sending invites is given to the team leader. So for example, Silver Gale wanting to start a UG would see all the people wanting to join a UG whom she hasn't ignored and who hasn't ignored her. She can randomly click invite for 23 people, or sort to her heart's desire and meticulously select who she wants out of that list to invite.

In trials like DD I've often seen a qualifier that only +2's or +3's are wanted. And most likely with good reason. People may have other requirements for other trials. My suggestion's goal (whether or not it got there is debatable) is to sort of expand on your statement I quoted.

For example, it would be nice if there was...

A simple way to just say "accept the next 23 people (who are +2 and +3 and) who show interest in the (DD) iTrial" would have helped me immensely.

Or not ... use of qualifiers (filters) should be optional. Obviously more filters reduces your chances of finding people to fill the slots.

In the case of trying to start a TF one might want to: "accept the next 7 people interested in STF who are level 50. One of them needs to be a tank and another needs to be a healer."

It's sort of a bastardization between completely open and pre-formed closed teams.

Which in turn will result in the person being kicked having a bad experience with the queue and quickly they stop using it.

    ...

You're suggesting something that is most likely to be seen by the devs as a waste of time and resources to develop because they can easily use datamining to determine how many players use closed teams in the queue vs open teams. When the former drastically outweighs the latter it's just not in their best interest to invest time and resources developing something that won't get used.
In its current form, the LFG queue isn't being used much. It's a safe bet that the dev's datamining supports that. You say (and I agree) that having random players that the queue assigns results in people getting kicked and deciding that they won't use it.

Now I'm assuming that these people are getting kicked because their build doesn't meet the criteria that the team leader is looking for. I propose that given the ability to set criteria to join an open team would result in less people getting kicked and an eventual increase in the usage of the queue.

I don't know if you think that the suggestions I'm making are bad, or if you think any work on improving the LFG queue is no longer worth the effort. It's fine if people don't like my suggestions. But to say the LFG queue isn't worth any more time and effort is a bit premature. I further assume that before the latest expansion of the LFG queue to include task forces and non-itrials, datamining would have yielded the same conclusion of open teams being under utilized, and as you say a waste of time and resources.

But the expansion did happen. Personally I'm hoping that that points to continued development of the queue.

The help channel is the only way for free players to communicate as far as I know. It's one of the most practical avenues for them to find teams. If an improved queue helps them to find teams and leaves the help channel less cluttered for conversations and asking for help, I think it's worth the effort.
  7. I slotted my ice/storm/ice with an emphasis on recharge rate. So I included hasten in my build. It's not perma hasten but it's close. I think there's a 15 - 20 sec gap. You can have multiple tornadoes and lightning storms, keep ice slick / freezing rain going ... Also, I slotted devastation: chance to hold on lightning storm as well. So every so often a minion gets held without me doing much of anything. It's also on ice blast...

Shiver has a recharge rate and move speed reduction effect of 81.25% according to Mid's and lasts 18 seconds. That can be easily slotted so that it's available before the slow effect wears off. Frost Breath does damage, but the recharge and speed reduction is 25% and lasts only 10s. Shiver keeps the enemy in the AoE spot longer and Frost Breath damage isn't anything to write home about.

Hibernate is nice because it's basically an in-battle rest. Your AoE powers become ineffective but it only breaks flight toggles. So you're safe in the block while your pets run amok. I made the mistake of slotting it with a recharge rate. Then someone told me about how you can't activate this power more than once every 2 minutes regardless of whether or not it's available. I think it was a "no phase" (de)buff or something like that.

I skipped Flash Freeze. Sleep powers are short lived in groups, and your pets and AoE's will make short work of it. A 90 sec recharge makes it frustrating to get past more than one group, unless you have the patience to wait for it to pop.

I skipped hurricane as well. The knockback moves the enemy out of the debuff range. And I've not found much fun in using personal repel fields. Arctic Air is sufficient for me in reducing the amount of hate aimed towards me.

I use thunderclap (a non-knockback stun) coupled with Frostbite for sort of another mass hold.

To get all that, I skipped the leadership pool.

I almost deleted my ice/storm/ice because it was such an endurance hog while trying to get to 50. Pet summoning and Arctic Air are pretty endurance intensive. The cardiac alpha power made all the difference for me. I also have stamina and health decked out with the Performance Shifter, Miracle, and Numina proc enhancements.

    Good luck!
  8. Wrestling ...

Melee with quick / multiple single target holds, immobs, and debuffs as a primary and a scrapper armor set for the secondary.

I'm guessing providing new, reactionary animation for all the NPC's would be a huge undertaking. It'd probably cost a year's worth of points =P.

While using the LFG queue? Don't leave that part out. It's sort of important to what I'm talking about. The times I've used it, it seems I got lumped with a bunch of random people.

Yes. That's exactly what we want to do, and demanded the devs allow us to do after they first added the LFG queue.
What has been presented in this thread that would take that away? You're still able to do all that outside of the current LFG queue. I'm suggesting modifications to the LFG queue without touching what people are doing outside of it. We are talking about "Any plan to make LFG more useful" right? My short response to that is to give players who would use it some control to improve the teams that are created. It may attract more people to use it.

And make the rest of the team wait while the team lead socializes individually with every person who may or may not be interested in what's being run?

I find that having social interaction in a team while the event is being run is worth more. Getting to that point faster would improve the time I spend in the game.

Your point suggests that there's no reason to have anything to help form groups except chat channels. Or that the current system is sufficient. The help channel is the main carrier for teaming requests, several random conversations, and people actually looking for help.

I think there's room for improvement.

I'm not seeing why they would have to give up that ability. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

I have a 3-person SG. All my grouping for TF's and trials is done with random people. I can't do anything but speculate on the nature of private teams and taking that away shouldn't be on the table. What I do see is the help channel and zone broadcast channels (to a lesser degree) are a bunch of LFT and LFM requests.

The intent of my suggestion is that the leaders that are LFM'ing could post what they're looking for and the people that are LFT'ing can see what's available that they qualify for. Thus, streamlining the process of getting those two "people" onto a group without spamming the help channel (or watching it, wondering if you missed something when you turned away for a minute) and typing out private inquiries. And maybe not having to bother with the spamming, the private tells, the blind invites, etc. lowers the barrier for more people to start teams rather than wait for them.

Then that team/league could join whatever queue they want, or not and run off to start a story arc. Maybe those features are worked into the queue framework. Whatever.

Currently I believe the queue is blind to the make up of the team and will push forward to start an event even if the teams aren't decently made. I'm simply suggesting giving players some control over the creation of those teams.
  12. If you get another ATI card, you may still be stuck with the non-upgrading driver problem.

There's a program called Driver Sweeper (free) that gets rid of remnants of older, uninstalled ATI driver installations prior to installing new drivers. I was crashing quite a bit from ATI drivers version 11.2 to 11.9 (Win7 64bit ATI HD 5850). It's gotten fairly stable since 12.1 and I'm running 12.2 without a problem so far.

Anyway, Driver Sweeper is located here:

    http://www.phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html

I use it after uninstalling the old drivers and before installing the new ones. You have to boot into safe mode to use it. I haven't had any problems using it but as with anything, you'll find people who have had more catastrophic experiences with it. I agree with T that you should pursue customer support before trying this program since it's a new computer.

If you get to the end of your rope, this will give you just a bit more to ... nevermind.

I don't think having a tool to help people form pug teams should preclude anyone from pre-forming a team the old way (also locking it so no one else can get in) and then joining the queue. The idea is to better control how those random (not pre-formed) teams would form so there's a better chance for success.
  14. This game looks at magic / sorcery as an origin. It's the source of your <powerset>. Although I do like the idea of a light power set to balance the darkness power sets that have proliferated through a few archetypes. (Extra damage/control against demons, undead, etc. heal / rez powers ...)

You could piece together a speed themed toon easy enough (with magical origins and overtones even). Off the top of my head, the speed auxiliary power set, street justice, super reflexes... Get enough end redux to keep superspeed going during combat, try not to piss too many ppl off with whirlwind ...

I don't think it's said anywhere that the use of the LFG tool was mandatory to run anything. I view it as a way to facilitate forming a random pug. It's sort of a given that using it would net you random people. Maybe the ignore lists could be integrated in a way to avoid certain players...
  16. I was a little disappointed that the LFG feature wasn’t used more during this last double xp weekend. I can understand the want to have specific functions filled in a team rather than leave it to chance that the LFG tool spits out a “challenging” combination of ATs.

So here’s my suggestion for how an LFG tool could work a little better:

    1. Someone who wants to start (lead) an event (trial / iTrial / SF / TF) will open the tool to form a group and select an event.
    2. For each slot, the following are chosen: a level range (default: min for event to 53), AT (default: open to all. Otherwise, choose as many AT’s as wanted), and a space for a short comment (healer, dps, invul tank, whatever).
    3. After that’s set up, click a button to post the event.

People who’re looking for a team will see all the events that their toon qualifies for. Each listing will show who’s leading, leader’s level, the event, AT being looked for, and comment. The list can be sorted by event, minimum level, or AT. The list could be filtered so that anyone on your ignore list isn't shown. A button would be available for each listing to join the group.

The leader would need to see which person filled which slot. The event could be started at any time after the minimum requirements of the event are met.

Why do it this way? I find that some people who’re LFT don’t like blind invites. Then there’s the chaos of multiple tells and trying to control the team makeup. And some people don’t like to bother having that conversation. I left out the ability to choose specific power sets as it got too complicated, which is bad if you’re trying to get people to try something new. If a TA defender signs up for a slot with an "emp/pain only" note on it, that’s a reason for getting kicked.
  17. This is my ice/ta controller build. My most used controller atm is an ice/storm so this is a little familiar to me. This is with incarnate powers turned off.

I skipped igniting the oil slick for Ice Mastery. I don't have a TA toon so I'm unaware of any temp/bonus powers that can ignite the oil slick. Ice Mastery works better thematically for me. Functionally I get to slot Steadfast Prot (+3% def) and another LotG recharge in Frozen Armor. I haven't gotten my hands on it yet but I slotted Ragnarok in Ice Storm to see if the chance for knockdown is continuous through the storm. Hibernate is in there in case of too much aggro.

As far as "tricks" go, I threw in Devastation's chance to hold and Entropic Chaos's chance to heal on all single ranged attacks (Ice Blast and Chillblain). For the most part all hold powers get Lockdown's chance for +2 mag hold.

I ditched EMP Arrow and Flash Freeze for Weave. Poison Arrow gets Fortunata Hypnosis (Placate) and Sandman (Chance to Heal). Frostbite (AoE immob) gets Grav Anchor's chance to hold.

All in all, defense isn't soft capped, but there's a lot of control in the build, which should keep you and Jack alive longer. Regen is up to aboout 11 hp / sec and haste is at 163.75%, which won't get you permahasten, but it's pretty close.

Afterburner ... yes, I included this. I love flight as a travel power. And when wanting to skip past the mobs between you and the goal, I love the tight controls that it has and the defense buff for a place to park another LotG recharge.

  23. In the costume creator, you get to preview unpurchased costume pieces, but are unable to complete the transaction until they're unlocked. I think it would go a long way to be able to select the unpurchased power set in character creation but not be able to complete the process in the same fashion. That way you could see the numbers, the animations, and make as fully informed a decision as possible short of playing it for x levels. As was mentioned, test server doesn't necessarily reflect the final product so it doesn't always count as a reliable representation of what it is I'm buying.

I'm still on the fence about dropping the PP for this set.

    Consider it further marketing...
