An attempt that will be utterly wasted on those of use who play on Macintosh computers. CoH is/was the only Mac-compatible game in NCSoft's stable. I'm not going to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a gaming PC just to "take advantage" of such an offer. I do have a $400 Windows 7 laptop, and I tried Aion (and games from other companies) on it. I discovered three things:

    1) I didn't like Aion at all

    2) That laptop is really too underpowered for gaming

    3) Trying to game on a laptop when you're accustomed to gaming on a desktop is extremely aggravating
  2. Ah, so it doesn't work by typing it in the chat box. ParagonWiki didn't make that clear. Thanks
  3. I've succeeded in recording a couple demos using "/demorecord <filename>", but when I try to play the demo back using "/demoplay <filename>" (which is how ParagonWiki says to do it), nothing happens.

    Any ideas?
  4. I've only played for a year and only gotten one character to 50. But I have 89 characters total. I could (and would) cheerfully start over. I love making characters. At the very least, I'd be starting over with the knowledge of what mistakes to avoid.

I mentioned this on another message board. As a longtime Mac user, I think I can speak for the Mac gaming community when I say that I just automatically assume every non-Blizzard PC game that comes out is "Windows-only". I had heard of CoH (even had the first few issues of the comic), but I didn't investigate the game because, at the time, I didn't have a computer powerful enough to run this kind of game. I didn't get one until 2008, and by that time I had completely forgotten about CoH. I signed up for WoW instead (because I knew it was Mac-compatible), and played that steadily for 3+ years. It wasn't until a year ago, when I got burned out on WoW and was moaning on another forum that there was nothing else for Mac users, that somebody said "City of Heroes has a Mac version". Whoa, really? I had no idea because the company didn't advertise nearly enough.

With the right marketing, CoH could have had a good, loyal, Mac playbase.

Actually, my suggestion was going to be "Don't start your argument by getting people upset over one issue ("I hate anime!"), then switching to your real topic and pretending that's what everybody's mad at you about." There's got to be some logical fallacy that covers that type of argument.

Yes, I was slated to be Premium on September 1, 2012. I'm still running iTrials, popping Judgement on mobs of Council and collecting all of those lovely commons on the DA arcs.
Cool! I was worried about that - September is when my job starts getting extremely busy, and I didn't know if I would have time to log in all my characters and get all those lovely screenshots I'd like to have before 9/14 rolls around.
  7. As far as my other SG, "The Extracurriculars", I had a whole plan for all their costumes. (Note: the two girls in the lower right were added after I made the wallpaper I linked to earlier. Xioahui is a Fiery Melee/Shield Defense brute from China; Tonya Toronto is an Ice/Ice blaster from Canada).

They started out wearing pretty much what they had on when the meteors hit Galaxy City:

Then at level 20 (only got five of them to 20) they would each design their own individual costumes, reflecting their own taste/style:

At level 30, they would together design a "uniform", with each maintaining their colors (the non-Americans on the team use their national colors), and slight modifications suitable to their ATs, i.e. bigger shoulders on the melee characters. The could choose their own head slots:

And just for fun, beach and club wear:

Also, "Notta Planet" is funny. But sad. I'm actually wearing my "Pluto ~ 1930-2006 ~ Revolve in Peace" t-shirt.
Her backstory is that she was kind a surly young lady to begin with, before she got her powers. She had intended to call herself "Plutonium" (despite her powers having nothing to do with radiation - she's a dark/dark scrapper), but the announcement of Pluto's "demotion" came right about the time she was finishing Mother Sun's program. So her surliness turned to sarcasm, and she picked the name "Notta Planet" instead

I had to get creative with several of those names. I wanted them all to be along the lines of "<Planetname> Girl" or "Miss <Planetname>", but in several cases those were already taken. So I made "Earth Girl" German, and she became "Erdmadchen" ("Earth Maiden"); likewise with Jupiter (French, "Jupiter Girl") and Uranus (Mexican, "Princess Uranus"). Neptune's Niece is Canadian, but claims to be an actual descendant of the Roman god of the sea. Ms. Mars is an actual Martian, and doesn't have any powers - Mother Sun's procedure wouldn't work on her Martian physiology. But she was already a trained warrior (natural sword/shield brute). Girl Mercury is English. The rest are Americans (Venus Lass is a former Miss California).
  9. Can't recall if this has been asked/explained yet, but once we have these exported character files, how will we get them back into the game when the time comes? Do we send them to whomever is running the game so they can place them on the servers, or will we have a tool to that ourselves?
  10. I may go the AE route. My thing is I've created my own personal "supergroups" on each of my servers. Two of those groups are themed "concept" groups:

"The Extracurriculars" is a group of girls who were students at Dahlia Danger's International School for Superpowered Girls, their school was destroyed in Galaxy City, and their teacher (Dahlia) turned out to be working for Arachnos and took off to the Rogue Isles.

"Solar Angels" Is led by Mother Sun, a brilliant biophysicist who developed a method of imbuing ordinary people with super powers. She formed a team, with each member representing one of the planets.

The SGs on my other servers are just loose collections of whatever characters I have there. I'm pretty good at stitching things together in Photoshop and making wallpapers, but I'm not quite good enough to fake a "real" group shot.
  11. Okay, wait, so the extra characters are added in after the fact, then? I was hoping there was some way to simply pull multiple characters onscreen at the same time and then record from there.
  12. I'm a little worried that when my billing date rolls around I'm going to be bumped down to Premium or something and not be able to access all of my characters. CharybdisClan, sounds like that did not happen to you?
  13. Agree with what The Grim Heaper said. The only thing I would expect to be refunded is the unspent portion of the $50 worth of Paragon Points I purchased about a week before the announcement (go figure - I'd never bought more than $15 worth at a time, and as soon as I decide to buy the $50 package...)

Heck, there's really no point in spending what's left. I've already purchased all of the costume bundles, and every powerset except Staff Fighting and the new Nature Affinity. I was gonna blow it all on SuperPacks hoping for more AT Enhancements. Now, why bother? Really no point in trying to advance my characters now.
  14. airhead, that's awesome

How do I add my other characters into the shot? Is it an in-game command while using /demorecord?

I'm on a Mac and there doesn't seem to be a way to play back demos "offline", but I'd be happy if I could just get several of my characters onscreen at the same time for some screenshots.

Hey, what are the odds that you'd be able to get the game installed and running on a PC at some point in the not-too-distant future?

I actually wasn't thinking clearly when I made my first post — I completely spaced off the fact that I do have the game installed on a cheap Windows laptop sitting next to my Mac. I just don't play the game on it. Being accustomed to playing on a Mac with a 20", 1680x1050 screen makes it difficult to try playing on a laptop with a much smaller screen. But it will serve for using your tool. Nevertheless, I suppose my question is still valid for my fellow Mac users, like blackjak there, who don't have a PC handy. Of course, that also brings up the question: will the site even let people download and install the client any more?

blackjak, unless you specifically want to play superheroes, there's always WoW, I guess, and I've been told that the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online MMO will have a Mac version. While I'm a huge superhero fan (been a comic collector for 25 years), I've come to the conclusion that CoH's genre isn't what's been important to me — it's the gameplay and the community.
  16. I was convinced that the blue caves were designed to frustrate brutes, with the way the spawns were so far apart that a brute couldn't maintain any Fury.

Will this tool work for us Mac players?
  18. I know there is at least one person begging Blizzard to buy it on the forums over there. There's one reason I could get behind it: with Blizzard, we might get a proper Mac client, instead of the jury-rigged Transgaming emulation thingy we have now.

As a Mac user, they don't have any other games in their stable that I can play, so any boycotting on my part would be kind of an empty gesture.

So for the time being I'm going to be stuck with just WoW again. Though I've been told that the upcoming Elder Scrolls MMO will have a Mac version.

I really really wish Paragon/NCSoft had done a better job of promoting CoH in the beginning. I've been online since 1996, and don't recall seeing much CoH advertisement, so I had absolutely no idea that it ran on Macs until a year ago. By comparison, I knew from 2004 that WoW would be Mac-compatible (granted, I was already a fan of the WC and Diablo franchises, so didn't need ads to tell me WoW would have a Mac version), so as soon as I finally got a Mac that could run WoW (in 2008) I signed up. If I'd had any inkling that I could have also played CoH at that time, I'd have been on board in 2008 instead of 2011.
  20. As a Mac user, I guess it's back to WoW for me, as it's the only option.

What makes that even funnier for me: I used to be a breakfast cook in a diner that opened at 5:00AM. This was during a period when I didn't have a driver's license, so I either walked or bicycled to work every morning. Several of our regular early-morning customers were city "street department" employees — the guys who maintained traffic lights and such, did the street cleaning and snow plowing, etc. I used to "complain" to them all the time about turning off the frakkin' wind machines once in a while so that my walking and biking to work wouldn't be such a chore

Oh man, I just did that radio mission yesterday. I completely missed the first parts and only caught Dr. Scott's last line, so totally missed the joke

I can't find the screenshot now, but I saw a funny one in one of Meg Mason's missions in the Hollows. Couple Trolls talking while they were guarding some crates, went something like this:

Troll #1: "Trolls the best! We got crates! Trolls got best crates!"

Troll #2: "Seriously, Charlie, why do you keep talking like that? You've been off the Superadine for months. It's getting really annoying!"

Yeah, +ACC is the first enhancement I plug into all of my attack powers, on every character.

Regarding Martial Gloom, his stunning kicks are melee only, so if you want to avoid them you have to stay out of melee. This really isn't an issue with Kinetics or Psi Blast, or even Corruptors, though. It would be the tactic multiple ATs and powersets would have to use at that level.
Yeah, but in this case he apparently was able to completely ignore my Repel and stun me, and once I was stunned I was helpless, especially since all of his goons were still up (because I couldn't put them down) and helping him beat on me. Once I was stunned, I was defeated in about 2 seconds. I never had a chance to keep out of melee range because Subdual didn't subdue him and Repel didn't repel him.

In any case, I decided to just delete the character and reroll her as a Mind Control/Psionic Assault dominator. Those PSs fit the character concept better anyway (her name is Mental Miyuki).
