Ah, I don't care if people think it's weird or look at me funny. Besides, for the past 10 years I've worked at a company that does something sort of unusual and people get confused by what I do. So they've just learned to stop asking for explanations from me. It's....easier.

Here are a couple lines from Professor Echo that I thought were cool:
"That's a bit more painful than I anticipated."
and my favorite:
"I'm going to have to spend all day in a tissue regenerator now."
[/ QUOTE ]
I loved Professor Echo's responses to being attacked. Ballista (I think that's his name) is really funny, too. -

Thank you War Witch for the Hellion Girlfriend dialog. God they crack me up. "Tara is gonna be so jelous, she's only dating a drummer" Classic material!!
[/ QUOTE ]
I also love the Hellion girlfriend dialogue.
And add my name to the Josh fan club list. And get him a cool red name! -

Jack may never have said it directly. But I do remember years ago, when "the devs" had no plans to implement PvP (we are talking 2001 here). Back then the game had a very different outlook, and didn't even have a publisher. I respect the fact that a lot changes in the development process. Especially caving into the masses' desire to kill one another

I really don't think you can hold anyone, especially in the electronic gaming industry, to plans they made over 4 years ago. I'd have to have someone throw plans I made last MONTH back in my face. -
If you plan on doing this, I recommend getting Chris Baty's book, No Plot? No Problem. I bought it last week and it's very helpful. It has good tips and suggestions (don't plan too far in advance!), with advice from people who have completed their 50,000 words and won in the past.
The book is in three parts. Part one covers the history of NaNoWriMo and how to get started. The second part is in several chapters. Baty warns that they will be most beneficial if you read one a week as you write. They cover things like writer's block, getting stuck, and motivation. The final part of the book covers publishing and what to do AFTER you write you 50,000 words.
He's very funny and has some really helpful things to share and directs you around pitfalls to avoid. I'm glad I got it.
Good luck to you! -
I'm so glad you've posted these. I've heard so much about you I almost created a character on your server just in the hopes I'd come across you making one of your famous calls. You're awesome. I'll be sure and read your story, too.

The only reason I even made this board was to get my 1 star back.

You must be very proud. -
Wow. Imagine being Gil. Every single time one of his articles gets posted, someone focuses on something small and tears it to shreds. I bet he just LOVES coming to work on Wednesdays. By the way, every special I've ever seen about Roanoke calls it a lost colony of Virginia. Before you flame someone for not doing research, you should do your own research.

im not really sure why Galaxy is always empty..
It might be because Galaxy doesn't have easy access to the hollows??
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a good point. I have to say, I always start my alts in Galaxy. Fewer people, less stupid stuff going on in Broadcast, and much less lag. When I play an alt on Champion and have to go to The Hollows, I hate coming back to train/sell in Atlas. My hero looks like the Bionic Woman, running in super slow-mo through courtyard. I have to get past the surrounding park before I can run at full speed again.
I ONLY go to Atlas when a) a contact makes me b) to get to The Hollows. And as soon as I can run through Skyway without getting killed on sight, I run through Skyway instead of Atlas.
Honestly, I feel like just being in Atlas Park drops my IQ by 50 points. -

I'm 35 and a technical trainer in Austin, TX. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and still miss the redwood trees that grow there. I don't post my picture on the internet because I'm sure someone will use it against me if I ever run for President.
My main hero and most of my alts are on the Justice server, but my newest alt, Alex Morgan, is on Champion. So far the people I've met there have been very cool - thanks! -

I'm 36 and live in Los Angeles where I'm a prosecutor. I like to think I'm a real-life superhero, but somehow those real-life mobs don't fall down and disappear. OTOH, they do show up again and again and again, just like skulls!

You're a real-life hero in my book. Prosecutors are the reason I don't make lawyer jokes. Not many, at least. -

At my workplace, all the servers are named after various gods of mythology. I conside one of my finer moments convincing networking that 'Enki' was a good name for our new server.

Ours were Harpo, Groucho, Chico, and Karl.

We had Bart, Lisa, and Homer. -

And, i'm really really glad that i'm now forced to level up all my alts from here on out with the same contect and missions and story archs and TFs.
[/ QUOTE ]
One mission was changed. That still leaves you plenty of ways to PL your alts. I don't know what level your main Hero is, so you may end up redoing some missions. But are you saying that doing the same wolf mission over and over and over for XP is somehow different that redoing OTHER missions for XP?
You can PL your alts in sewers, on monster island, in any AV missions. It's a little more work, but it's done by people every day.
My friend started an alt when my main was nearly 40. Now we're both 49. He didn't PL his alt in wolf missions, but he sure found a way to do it. I'd be surprised if other people aren't as creative. -
[ QUOTE ]
You can debate theory all you want, but the results are going to be the same--80% of the servers' populations will suffer because 20% want to take the easy way out.
[/ QUOTE ]
That math adds up to 100%, yet this change had no effect on me. I got the timed mission and my team completed it successfully. My team had 5 people, including me. That means that they also successfully "arrested" Shadowhunter and will have that count towards the dimensional warder badge. So really, it had no effect on them, either. It also had no effect on anyone who had already complete the mission.
I don't see how this is going to cause 80% of the population of CoH to suffer. Please explain how you came by your results. -
[ QUOTE ]
Great, now a mission with an AV is timed...
Oh, let's not forget you need to defeat shadowhunter to get your Dimensional Warder badge.
Oh, don't forget you need the Dimensional Warder badge to get the Portal Jockey Accolade.
Gee, thanks for making it so if my team screws up this mission I get screwed out of a great accolade.
Way to go, Devs!
*Edit: BTW, this has stopped nothing. People will just herd Dreck's mission instead. Watch.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see how this will lock you out of the badge. I've done this mission at least 6 times because so many people in my SG are around the same level and have had it. Last night I got it and it was timed. I don't think it was an hour, I think it was maybe 90 minutes. Either way, my team completed the mission with 20 or 30 minutes to spare.
If I've been in this mission 6 times, I can't imagine it's going to be that hard for other people to find an opportunity to do this mission more than once. -
I remember running out of all my completed missions until someone said, "You know, you can click 'Mission Complete' and exit."
I remember the first Defenders who helped me out, inspiring me to ditch my first Hero and create a Defender, who is now my main Hero and just hit lvl 49.
I remember the first time I saw a Hero fly overhead and how it made me think, "This is going to be the coolest game ever."
I remember the first time I walked through a CoT portal and found myself in a completely different section of the map than the rest of my team.
I remember when I2 came out and there were huge crowds outside the Terra Volta reactor building, watching as the door would open and entire teams of dead Heroes would get tossed out. I remember the server crashing on three separate occasions as my team and I tried to complete that trial.
I remember the first time I went to Portal Corp and tried to jump into the portal, only to have nothing happen and realize I had to click it to get it. (So much less dramatic)
I remember thinking I would play the first month free and then drop my subscription because I can't imagine ever paying $14.99 a month to play a game. That was over 9 months ago and I still love this game. -

I think the developers, especially Jack, are a great deal smarter than I am.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that you may be smart about different things and in different ways, but you shouldn't sell yourself short. This was a remarkably well thought and well written posting. -
To the original poster: Your post was well-written and beautifully thought out. Unfortunately, it is also inflamatory and lacks any evidence to support your statements. Without examples, your statements are only opinions. If you want to help the Developers help you, give them solid examples to work with.
Other people have followed up with some examples of bugs, which I think was more helpful.
I think the release of Issue #3 was a HUGE improvement over the release of Issue #2. Were there some bugs? Yes. And I'm sorry if that had a more serious effect one some than others. My empathy defender didn't have any real tweaks made, so I only know about the changes based on what I've read here and what my friends say.
I've temporarily lost my connection to the map server several times since Issue #3 went live.
I'm glad Statesman said the inaudible glowie is being fixed, because I rely on that sound to help me find them. But when I haven't found a glowie in the past and entered a petition, a GM has almost always come on to help me within 10 minutes or less. I know this is worse if you play off hours, though.
I think it's great that the OP is calling for Cryptic/NCSoft to be ABOVE industry standard. That's a great goal and I'm sure they would really like to do that. But I don't believe this was BENEATH industry standard.
Issue #2 had some really bad stability problems. The servers were crashing or being taken down multiple times over the first weekend. It was extremely frustrating. Someone mentioned that, without a Respec, Issue #3 made some characters unsafe to play. (It's a game. "Unsafe" might have been a bit strong.) There's a huge difference between system instability - truly unplayable - and the bugs being listed here.
Instead of telling the Developers that they came thisclose to making the sky fall, I'd rather say "Thanks for taking more time on Issue #3. I see a lot of improvements in the way the release was handled and I hope the next release will go even more smoothly."
Perfection, or near perfection, would be really nice. But Improvement is also good, shows me they're going in the right directions, and gives me hope. -

You quoted an article that calls the 5th Column the "5th Element" and Striga Isle "Spriga Isle"? Those should have been clues as to the quality and authenticity of the article right there. I wouldn't trust anyhing stated there. -

Not always. I'm lvl 42 and just this weekend I soloed a Rikti mission filled with mentalists. I'm an empathy defender with clear mind, but I can't use it on myself. Usually I have to get a friend to help me just so I can get around the mentalists. But this time I wanted to play alone, so I loaded up on 10 of the light purple clear mind (can't remember what they're called) inspirations and got through my mission without being held once.
