This story gave me warm fuzzies so I thought I'd share:

Great story.
I've yet to claim my first Regen scalp. I came damn close though
. I was trying out some team PvP in Warburg , and found a Regen/Katana had strayed from the main hub of chaos, so...bit my lip & Skewered him, & dropped Integration right down to around his ankles
, & after spamming a series of 3 holds on him (Strangler, Vines, Strangler) I got stuck in with Ripper & Thorn barrage, with my drooling pet Fly Trap throwing in some more fire power for good measure. I think I put on another couple of holds to keep him nice & tight & got him ready for a killing blow,.... when his sneaky Regen & Blaster mates ganked the hell out of me
.
What made it fun is, as I have a Regen Scrapper also, I know full well he would have been hammering that Reconstruction key until it was steaming.
Spurred on by this story & by Filth's own glory, I'm definitely determined to have my moment.

...I think some specific controller builds are grossly overpowered when it comes to damage, especially post-pets and post-epics. Doms are not the only AT they outdamage.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I think that's fairly accurate tbh.
I agree that a Dominator should definitely be over a Controller in damage terms. I haven't had enough experience yet to equate Dom's Thorn set, but it's definitely pretty good post 35. Aside from that I don't really have any complaints. Chaining 3 holds in rapid succession spells doom for most things, & hitting Seeds Of Confusion on multiples cause them no end of problems, & gives me plenty of laughs. I'm guessing it's all a definite threat as my Dom' is always the first to get singled out for a solid ganking
. Which can be an [censored] when I'm still just trying to get some PvP experience with it
.
ONly just really started taking my Dominator into PvP, & I have to say a big thanks to Filth for re-iterating that Skewer & Ripper toggle drop, it's given me much more success even in the limited experience I've had so far. I understand toggle dropping is getting reigned in a bit soon, but I really hope the Dev's are focussing on the sets where this is clearly an actual issue. The two in Thorns are pretty essential, & it still takes a lot of determination to get in up close & personal to land either. Dropping the toggle drop from these would really be overly detrimental to the sets PvP abilty IMHO.
Actually pulling off a toggle drop & then chaining & a series of holds before letting loose with Ripper & Barrage is intensely rewarding. Still learnng a hell of a lot about teaming in PvP, but each scalp my Dominator claims has been hard fought for & really villainously glorious

I did 0-50 with just Hurdle & SS & in just PVE & it was fine as it was. Got all but a tiny handful of badges too without any chump help
. Got down to about 5 maybe 6 exploration ones I think.
Getting the one on top of the TV reactor was fun & earned me a nice bag of inf' in the way of a bet.
After the PVP zones came in, I ended up going to SJ, since a lot of stuff in Sirens seemed to be happening on the rooftops.I like using vertical spacing a lot, & nothing gives someone the fright of their lives more than a screaming, whirling green blur of death plummeting down on their heads from a ledge a few hundred feet above 'em.
Other than that, I don't have any particular slots or picks I've taken specifically for PVP & I tend to go in & out of it whenever I feel like it. I like to get my n000b [censored] out of trouble when I start finding myself up to my armpits in Stalkers.
I fully admit I pummel my skull to pieces jumping around arenas & base raids tho.
Oh, for the above build, where someone's suggested some modified slotting, I'd stick for 3X def' in MOG, with the 1X Dam' Res' & still not sure about the need to slot recharges into it. And the 5 seconds on Reconstruction,... that's a looong time in the middle of the [censored] hitting the fan, which is where your Spines & Regen should be.

You call that a bug?
Try wandering around your Family mission as your Brute, smashing and the like, on the highest difficulty (relentless or whoever) only to find 7 or 8 people randomly spamming on broadcast saying how dark it is in your mission. You think "Thats funny" then 1 of these strange heroes types "try /stuck". All of a sudden this lone brute is surrounded by all these PvP build heroes, including blappers, stormies, /kin and /rad trollers. "Oh, dear." instantly ganked Brute in its own mission (in St Martial no less) by some randomly spawned heroes who were trying to have an arena fight.
Now THATS a bug
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait, is this true? Surely not. How could that even happen? Won't villain/hero/arena instances be on different physical machines!?
[/ QUOTE ]
nope
Funniest bug ever
[/ QUOTE ]
That is the funniest COH/COV moment I have ever read. Ever. Tell me, please, you mashed the screenshot button!
Bugs - tried several raids now where it's either stupidly hard to try & join it, or once you have the whole raid crashes both sides out. Interestingly one crash healed our mega expensive generator back to full health with well over 1/2 hour of raid left to go.
This is annoying though, as I am doing my best to "sell" raids to my SG as a whole, including people that by & large would NOT PvP at all. Selling something clearly broken isn't going to make any satisfied customers for it, & I just get the feeling they'll give up on it.

Just curious has the PvP just died on defiant

Yes, I killed it
Problem with Arena is that you have to go to the arena to check on a terminal to see if any matches are going etc. If you don't check the boards or have arena chat on and lets face it, the majority of players dont use arena or these boards. The thing with PvP zones is well they are PvP zones and for those that don't feel like using their game time to setup matches can usually head there and get a little bit of action in once in a while.
Futhermore you can use the /search feature to check the zones for players on your side. Now if you somehow could check the arena terminals without going there, that might be useful.
I think most casual players and pvp'er use sirens and the other zones to fulfil their pvp needs due to the easy access and no waiting or organisation needed.
Personally I usually PvP'd late nights and sometimes early mornings. For that reason Arena does not work for me as a casuel PvP'er.
TG I would not count the Dagger Boys amongst hardcore PvP'er
[/ QUOTE ]
And here it is again. You see as I have said lots of ties. I used to use the arena but disabled it as far back as autumn. I also remeber the night I did it and two distiguished defianters around at the time who saw me do it and announce I had had enough. And we all know why I disabled it. It was jst the other week when I spoke to someone who told me they never used it and she didnt know anyone that did anymore. She told me one or two but they stoppped due to the abuse fest.

Hi Everyone,
Tried searching for this but couldnt find anything about it.
I am thinking of rolling a regen scrapper sometime and have question. Regens have a power that regarges health and (i think) endurance faster.. which i think is the same as the fitness pool health & stamina.
Is it possible to take all of these? The ones with your power set (regen) and the ones in the fitness pool? Would that make any difference or is there a cap that I dont know about?
Thanks in advance!
[/ QUOTE ]
Depends what your primary is. I heard some folks do without.
Having a villain eating lawnmower with Spines, I took Stamina to enable running Quills as much as I want, which has a pretty hefty end' cost, & I want the spare there so I can choose to put Focussed Accuracy in next time I bag a respec', & last time I had that, my scrapper ate more endurance than he eats bad guys.
Not sure about health. I think it's worth having, but I've also heard people report slotting it makes neglible difference & the slots can be better spent. I don't know myself how much that bears out. -
The other night something happened that shook my nerves to their core.
I joined a team of people I've just started teaming with & become friends with. It's a great set of characters to team with & all good players. Usually the mobs get locked down, & then crazy buffage happens & next all the enemies are face planted thinking "ZOMG! Which n00b aggro'd the heroes????".
On this occasion, the team was full & we were taking on some relentless level 40+ CoT in an Oranbega mission. As we were getting ready for the next, very large & dangerous mob & setting up to attack, someone got spotted by one lone CoT & started getting fired at. I thought "uh-oh" best lay something down here before everything comes piling in. Now, what I did is fire off my AOE hold, & roll a miss, bringing the whole room crashing down on us & causing mass debtage
. I KNOW what would have been better would be to have seed creepers everywhere to soak the aggro & then go for AOEs with confuse or then the holds, but it was late & I made the bad choice
. I didn't get any come back from it, but I felt absolutley terrible & wish I could have vanished on the spot. Normally I nail this stuff 100% of the time & have a whole room or mob locked down or dealing with something else other than my team.
Thing is, 'cos it's the worse mess up I made so far on my Dom' & he's normally great holding mobs, bosses & Hero's etc, I found I suddenly have the FEAR the next few times I've teamed on big teams & missions. Now I feel like the Maverick of Domination. I know I'll get into some big teams again & get back to my dominating glory, but I wondered if anyone else has ever felt the FEAR like this?
Sorry to the team. Can I come make it up with some Seeds & Creepers goodness
?

Well this is pretty much the idea i had. To organise 1 or 2 nights per weeks in the next few weeks and assemble all PvP newcomers at Sirens Call hero base and Villains base respectively. Then spread the hardcore PvP players across teams with the inexperienced people and have some bashing going on maybe even at the hotspots for control of Sirens. While this goes on we can have the hardcore pvpers maybe helping out people and answering questions and providing help and tactics. At the end of the night we can have a "rookie of the night" award and maybe couple of more rewards for new players. Imho it can boost PvP attendance within the zones and bring more casual and light players to try PvP and get the adrnaline rush.
If people like this idea i can work out the details and make a separate thread with all details and maybe start promote it within game too as well as trying to set up something with VG's out there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Cool! I'm all for that. If everyone sets out with just the intention to have fun, & pick up some ideas, not only would PVP benefit, but everyone gets a chance to have some fun & talk to people they might not have before.
From personal experience, the best nights I've had in the zones were those where I've got chatting with total strangers & had some fun sparring in fun.
Most recently I ran my Dominator & MM in some skirmishes in Warburg against a tank & a scrapper. 2 players I'd never spoke to before, but had a really enjoyable time talking about powers & tactics & trying different stuff out.If that kind of atmosphere can be cultured in all the zones then there's no reason everyone can't be having as much fun in PVP as we all have in PVE.
If this goes ahead I'll ceratinly sign up for it, & will do my best to drum up some interest in my sg & coaltions as a start. I'll probs' try to bring my Dom' or even my MM to take part in these as I want to see what I can do with 'em, but I wouldn't mind swapping sides around when & where needed.
-
Grats Trix'
. The teams with you lot have been great fun
.
-
If some of the guys want to arrange some events to attract new people to the pvp & the zones, & if they will spread themselves around other teams & have the patience to play with some very inexperienced people, then I'll be more than happy to take part & join in & try to drum up interest etc to get people, who'd otherwise not ever really pvp, joining in & come try it out
.
If "spanking mode" got turned off for a short while, & some evenings of good natured fun & laughs can be had then I don't see why a lot more people wouldn't want to come along & share in it.
From the comments I hear ingame about pvp, the main things thats put new comers off is those 1st visits where the spankings come thick & fast & the mockery & banter isn't so good natured. So you have new guys that really want to try pvp out, figure out what they have in their sets that works or doesn't against other powersets, but find the learning curve more like a learning precipice.
And when someone gets dumped off that precipice with a vicious spanking it's often pretty hard to encourage 'em to comeback. I'd guess with just a little bit of some early successes to tantalise 'em, people are far more likely to get a bit excited about it & want to keep trying. Personally I'd love more chance to learn how to use my traps mm more & my dominator more. The traps mm is seeming like a really hard one to be able to get just some time learning how to set stuff up, & move around, & often when I'm trying I just end up o the wrong end of a bunch of heroes who beat the snot out of my character in seconds flat. I know that the character can work really well in teams, as I took him to Sirens before & caused havok with the poison traps.
If there's some villain characters around that would enjoy mentoring a n00b mm or dominator in PVP then I'll defintely come along & join in.
-
Have you joined the DefiantBadgers global channel?
A great channel for badgehunting, & plenty of call outs when the GMs are spotted.
-
Hence it'd be nice if everyone could try & treat all other characters with a little respect
.
Something I tend to lose a lot of for people when I find 'em spewing grief on public channels when alting.
True tho, that things can get blurry at 5am. I know one of these guys as one of the nicest, & most genuine people in the game
. So def' a case of an misunderstanding & not irrepperable at al
.

I'm fairly sure knockdown enhancers will increase the distance of KB, which might knock dudes *out* of the creepers which you probably don't want to do. Since I'm PvP oriented I went for Slow as well as ACC and Recharge. It is a great power although not as effective as Ice Slick for pure control.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, have seen this happen, even if just a handful of times since trying it. I'm still toying around with the last slots on it, & putting Slows next on the list.

There are two types of bases:
1) The cheap-and-cheerful raid-ready base. This base is built with the cheapest items, on the second largest plot. The Paragon Defenders have one of these
2) The OH-MY-GOD-PRESTIGE base. This base has typically OD'd on the custom items, and is full of rare stuff like auto-docs, turbine generators and advanced turrets.
I would suggest that if you have a base like in #2, you don't do the whole IoP thing. If you're like us and you have a #1 base, then it should be fine. Don't forget that you get a 5mil prestige bonus just for finishing the trial. Our base cost us around that, but that was including the plot upgrade which cannot be destroyed.
My views on base raid etiquette are thus: If I can target it, it's going to get broken.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is pretty much something I've been thinking about for a bit. A nuts & bolts base with basic generator is a much better proposition for IOP stuff.
With an SG rammed to the hilt as it is, it could be a good move to get the PVP/trial interested people together, move their 50s out to another expansion, "assault"group & go do some missioning to buld up enough to get a wood & planks raid enabled base going.

...u wont have time or oppurtunity to level bawse to the ground..
[/ QUOTE ]
Doubt it.
Get their reclaimator(s) offline and it's as good as SMASHED. All the time you want after you have the entrance covered. -
Bizzarely then, I'm finding the confusion from Seed's isn't overly scattering mobs that much at all.
Yes, roots does back it all up & keeps them even tighter, but I've actually 'specced Roots out to no detriment at all.
Like Filth I built to single target attacks. I did also take Vines however to stack & break anything particulary resilient. It works a treat, & there's not really much you can't break in a few seconds with 'em chained.
I slotted for very fast holds over duration to get them stacked & find it works great for my style. In big teams my buddies wipe all the stuff out before it breaks hold anyway, & solo I flick around stacking anything overly dangerous or outside the conrtol of Seeds' or 'Creepers. The I get stuck in.
Definitely consider taking Skewer much much earlier. Same reasons as mentioned - it's really you're best attack until much later.
Your Dom' might be on the squishy side, but don't be afraid to get stuck in & vicious. Your primaries will keep stuff occupied enough that you can get right into the thick of it.
Personally I took the Leaping set for travel. It was more a character choice, but acrobatics has been a constant lifesaver. You can't hold anything when you're getting batted around every wall of a dingy Council base
.
Plants/Thorns is a great villainous set of powers & incredible fun. Hope you have as much fun too.
The Flytrap & Thorn Barrage are worth all the effort levelling to them & I wish there'd be even more than another 10 levels to take 'em through with i7.
Interesting note on Thorntrops. Now I'm thinking about taking them as I probably won't take a Patron (just didn't find anything that fitted with my Dom' character). -
Very nice description
.
Creepers has been a vital bread & butter part of my dominator build since I got it. 6 slotted with 3 x recharge, 2 X accuracy & currently 1 x knockdown, although I've toyed about a lot with that last slot.
Way it is at the moment it keeps whole mobs off their feet to give me plenty of time blasting out thorn barrage & feeding my pet.
With hasten & the duration on the followup creepers, I almost always have the writhing beauties for company.
-
Just a big hello & thanks to all the villains who've been charging around the Rogue Isles causing havok all weekend
.
Leveled my Dom' loads, got some cool badges, & teamed with some very very good big teams, with folks I've not really teamed with before, & had too many laughs to remember. Big thanks to Anz', Dem', Master Z', Snow & alll the villainous Femmes & crew (too many to list
)who made the game & this bank holiday so cooooool
.

1.5 million of targetable generator in our base. Do I want an IOP as things would currently stand....?
...pffft, sorry.
The prestige spent on the things isn't the issue. It's the volume of hours put in by the whole group to get this stuff.
Would we be playing the same amount of time anyway? Yeah, probably. Did it cost us any extra to do it? Not really. But I kind of feel watching something like that go up in smoke is going to feel like I've been nerfed back 10 levels on my character.
