Quote:As a T9 player, who's been both VIP and Premium, I can say this:You are right in part.
And you should get 550 pp monthly.
I dont think there is a reason for T9 vet players to continue as VIP.
It depends on what you like and what you value.
If you want to stretch points as far as possible, saving on some costume sets and power sets, VIP helps - yes, there are still some power sets you would need to buy to play, but that's a personal choice.
If you don't want to pay extra (or specifically) for points, VIP helps.
If you like Incarnates, VIP's the only thing available for you.
If you're a serious altaholic (like me,) VIP is a better deal, IMHO - even with all the character slots I'd picked up, I still had characters on other servers I wanted to revisit... but, while they were in the 12 "free" slots, I didn't have server (or spare global) slots to unlock them. VIP's great there (though they need an "Unlock all characters on this server" button.)
SSAs... I don't know, I don't mind going through them as part of a subscription, but I don't know that I'd be satisfied with purchase if I'd bought them with points.
If none of that applies to you, Premium's the way to go. Pick up points as needed for the occasionally interesting powerset, IO yourself out, let someone else lead the SG and pay rent, ignore the Incarnate trials, and have fun. -
If he didn't scroll down past "Ancillary power pools," he wouldn't have seen the patron pools in paragonwiki - and thus would only have seen Chill, Charge, Heat and Field. (Or saw the note about "villain alignment" and just ignored it.)
-
Quite honestly... you're probably not going to get a lot of bites. Once in a while someone will ask for people to submit characters so they have something to sketch, or just for the heck of it (like this current thread by imagesbyalex.)
You do, however, have to remember the phrase, "Beggars can't be choosers." When someone's doing something free, don't expect to be able to specify the style or get some big, fancy setup done. (Which it doesn't *sound* like you're looking for.)
The flip side of things, though, is that there are quite a few people on DA (some linked down in the multimedia forum, or go through the #cityofheroes (I believe it is) group) that do fairly extensive artwork without breaking the bank. As in go without Starbucks for a week, get decent character art and have money left over. -
So, wandering through DA with my Emp/Psi, doing the arcs, one or two things come up.
First, the minor, general case. The arcs are written assuming - dialog wise - you've got some incarnate powers already going. So having someone "step back and assess your power" when you've got nothing slotted and only Alpha unlocked... who ever thought a mostly-SO'd emp/psi defender could be that scary?
The other one that's going to be odd for me to go through? One of my characters, currently at 40, who's been around a while. (I can say that a lot, can't I.) Knew about the "Mot" link in DA for years, part of why the name is what it is - but she's going to have something to say (and a good reason to beat down people) in a few points. Which character?
This one:
... Keres Mot.
There are times I *really* wish we could fit our own dialog in (ok, we can, sort of) - because having someone else called "the" Keres would *really, really* tick her off. -
I'm only slightly more concerned about Scrappers than I am about the Earth running out of oxygen, to be blunt.
Scrappers have been, and are, fine, IMHO. Very straightforward. You hit stuff. Sometimes you h it harder (crit chance.) No fury mechanic to worry about. You get your attacks first. Nothing fancy (unless the set you use gives you something "fancy" to work with, like DB Combos.) -
Quote:In theory, great (and really, I wouldn't argue - if anything, this is a trial mechanic.) In practice... say the words "Orenbanga teleporter" and check the reaction. It's something that would have to be done carefully.I have always liked the idea of the group being split up however, so a random selection of people in the group would be TP'd to each corner of the map and one group would have to work to the centre and deactivate the teleporter or this would keep happening and the mobs keep respawning.

Quote:This, really.It depends upon a few factors.
Country? aka Servers that has more playing in American time or European time.
Do you sometimes play the chars Role-play wise?
Virtue is an RP server with plenty of players from the states. Thus it often gets into the yellow then red bars.
Freedom has alot of players, american time and also gets quickly into the Red bar.
Union was the unofficial RP server European wise and is alot on the yellow bars.
Defiant is European server with some RP happening.
Each server do have their feel, one thing I do know is Global channels are a must sometimes.
Hope this helps, and that other players chip in with more information.
You also mention "decent amount of people" - part of that, i have to say, is "Do you expect to be tripping over other people as you go from place to place?" Every server's population is pretty spread out, given the huge number of zones, the various trials, etc. - and the fact we don't do things like have boss spawn points you have to stand around waiting for for numerous missions.
On a *purely* personal note, I started off on Pinnacle, and it and Victory are my two "homes." Great servers, but I can't really complain about the others. (flipside being I'm not that fond of Freedom, which tends to be the server with the highest load... others love it for that reason.) -
I think the last two things I was really waiting for have been released already - Electric and Darkness control.

Same - it did look like the coolant "maintained" the core for a little bit, but didn't actually heal it. (And yes, /bugged.)

Quote:So, doesn't need gore, psychological thriller type thing is good?I enjoy scary movies but gratuitous gore a la George Romero turns my wife off. I don't care whether it's there or not personally; it certainly is not a selling point for me. I like thinking-man movies, so well-constructed zombie or ghost films are way more interesting for me than your average slasher.
That said, I'm looking for some recommendations. I like to watch movies with my wife, so excess gore is pretty much an immediate "no." Anyone know some intelligent and SCARY movies appropriate for a cute little Japanese woman? I adore the original Dawn of the Dead (and the remake!) but that would have way too much blood for her. I'd go for something that's even just "creepy," more like a thriller than your typical all-must-die horror flick.
I'd love to find a website that rates the gore in a given movie on a scale of 1-10 or some such, but wouldn't know where to begin looking....
Thanks for any ideas!

May have to go back a bit... and I'll admit I don't dig deeply into the genre. (Had some friends that loved this sort of thing.) I do seem to remember The Changeling being decent (the version with George C Scott. ) Most of the ones I can kinda-sorta think of are black and white, and the titles escape me, though. -
Quote:Just a passing bit of Halo knowledge makes Cryptum good. Not really quite so fond of the second book.If you like the Halo games, the books can be good, in particular Ghosts of Onyx. Halo: Cryptum is set during the time of the Forerunners and is an interesting read.
Quote:David Brin's Uplift books. Two trilogies. The first is Sundiver/Startide Rising/The Uplift War. The second is Brightness Reef/Infinity's Shore/Heaven's Reach. They're set in a universe where every sentient species is "uplifted" to sentience by an older species, but humanity has bucked the trend by bootstrapping itself to spacefaring. The galaxies (five of 'em) are bound together with an all-encompassing Library that contains pretty much every technology imaginable. A lot of races are hostile to humanity and want them either wiped out or forced into modification by an older race.
Using an Ebook reader of some sort? Head over to... bah, don't have the url, Baenbooks or some such. They've got a library of free books. Eric Flint (and others) have this rather light historical-fiction-ish ... fi... series, 1632 (and 33, 34, etc.) - basically a W. Virginia coal mining town gets pulled up and plopped down in the middle of Europe in 1632. In the middle of the Thirty Years' War. (Well, *I* find it fairly light and interesting, at least.) There are also other works there of a few genres, from more sci fi to more fantasy (a few by Mercedes Lackey, as well.) -
Weekend results:
Had fun.
Accomplished:
Hmmmmmm...
Erin Snow - old, old Emp/Psi finally hit 50. Only took since 2005! (left)
Caitlyn Haruspica, Ice/Cold Corr - from 42ish to 47. Was planning on 50, but ... nah. Didn't want to push. (Middle in the link.)
Started a Dark/Rad and Titan/Energy Aura - in their teens somewhere. Group w/friends making "what the heck, why not" characters.
Gregor Malkov -23 to 27. Warshade. One moonfire run.
Home Fires - 27 to 31. One level from Imps... She really needs imps.
Few others I just got 1-2 levels on from hopping around.
Didn't end up doing anything on three characters I wanted to - an Ice/Dark corr, a crab and Ice/Elec blaster - but, oh well. -
Anyone else misread this as healing bacon?
We need a bacon buff powerset. (Since I think Uberguy covered all the relevant info.) -
Quote:Either your comprehension needs work - given the number of times I've said in the thread I *would* pay for "above and beyond" features, such as fancier (past NoFX/tinting) custom effects in a pack, and have paid for other things - or you're just working on character assassination, and failing. At the very least your expectations in this matter are highly skewed towards getting everything you want for nothing.
I mean, even in the post you quoted:
Quote:(AGAIN, though, I'd be fine with purchasing fancier, new, non-basic animations - a lightning bolt coming down for hasten going off, flames that look like flames for superspeed, etc. as they'd be *beyond* the basic tint/noFX we have for the other powers.)
Again. New, alternate, fancy power customizations (say, a lightning bolt coming down when hasten activates) - fine, charge for those.
Or as I said bluntly earlier in the thread:
Quote:So, summary:
Pay for pool customization: No.
Pay for extra customization animations, while leaving "noFX" and color options free for everyone: Sure.
Pay for something else (costume set, powerset, etc.) that goes to funding it: Sure.
Do try to portray what I'm actually saying accurately. -
Ahh. Good to hear. Bad that it broke to begin with, but good it's getting fixed. Danke.

Didn't have much chance to fool around with this over the weekend, but it seems my forms->human bind is not working as it used to. (Same with "drop to QFly.") I've fiddled with the order a bit, and it seems to make zero difference.
Code:Numpad0 used to drop form and immediately toggle QFly. Numpad2 used to drop whatever form to human and go right to fly. (Reasoning should be obvious when dropping from nova for a quick buff!) Now? No matter what order I put them in (I've tried swapping Energy/Quantum flight to the beginning,) it just drops to human and drops me to the ground without a fast second tap.NUMPAD0 "powexectoggleoff Bright Nova$$powexectoggleoff White Dwarf$$powexectoggleon Quantum Flight$$goto_tray 8" NUMPAD1 "powexectoggleon Bright Nova$$goto_tray 9" NUMPAD2 "powexectoggleoff Bright Nova$$goto_tray 8$$powexectoggleoff White Dwarf$$powexectoggleon Energy Flight" NUMPAD3 "powexectoggleon White Dwarf$$goto_tray 7"
Recent alteration, something odd on my end, or something else? (I've been using these same binds for years on my Khelds, so I know they *used* to work.) -
Quote:Because I'm always so pathetically broke relative to the Market that I've found it affordable to use up four slots rather than try to get an over-priced proc?
...
(A) It's not a proc, it's a global. Just to nitpick. >.>
(B) Overpriced? At 10, I see them going from 1.5-3 million. At 50, still under 3 million. Now, while you may not have a million at level 7, for all it does (and probably because of people glutting the market due to that,) that's insanely cheap. That's "New Ferrari for $50, insurance guaranteed to be free for life" cheap.
(C) Overpriced pt. II - take a lowbie into AE, run an arc, burn on bronze rolls. With a decent arc - not farm, just arc - you're almost guaranteed enough tickets for rolls to get that. Sell what you don't use. -
One problem, you've said "Free/Premium." The answer's different for each.
Free = they're not going to have more than another slot (as any purchase puts them to premium.) These people are going to be the most limited - they can't IO out their build, can't market, have a low INF cap, etc.
They're basically playing the old game - they can exemp down, run task forces, go badge hunting, PVP - though they're restricted to SOs - and the like.
Premium depends on level - basically anything from the above to "Pretty much anything they want other than Incarnate content and forming/paying rent for SGs" once they fill out Tier9. -
Started - or at least formed a SG with a friend over on champ - 8/1/2005.
50 - 3/17/2012. >.< 220 hours. (Psi vs robots can be a little bit of a disincentive to play the character. See also Striga.)
Erin Snow, Emp/Psi Defender. *Finally.* Dinged with the end-of-task-force on a Moonfire run. -

Quote:And I'm done with you.So you're saying that, because they gave us something, rather than just leaving us with nothing, that puts your expectations higher?
You're right, that's not just entitled, that's outright spoilt brat.
Yes, if someone produces *partial* work, I expect them to finish it.
If someone says they'll make a cheeseburger and gives it to me without cheese, that is incomplete work.
If someone says they'll paint a room but only finishes 3 walls, that is incomplete work.
If someone says they'll install a printer, and they just unbox it, plug it in and leave it sit there, it's incomplete work.
And yet you sound like you'd be perfectly happy with your no-cheese cheeseburger in your partially painted room with a printer that does nothing but suck down power, and be thrilled at the thought of paying those people *even more* money to get what you were supposed to have delivered in the first place.
Expecting work to be *finished* - which power customization *is not* - is not being "spoiled." It's a fairly common expectation of a customer paying for a service.
Again, *If it did not exist in game at all at this point,* there would be a wholly different conversation about paying for it. However, it does. It's a system put into game *free* that is not finished, that they have had six issues to finish so far.
Last, this game is not a gift. I have been a subscriber for nearly seven years, with one small recent break. I *am* paying for access with an expectation of a certain level of service and professionalism - including *finishing what they start.* I don't mind paying extra for "above and beyond" extras they may come up with. FINISHING WHAT THEY STARTED is not "above and beyond."
However, as stated, I'm done with you. It's not worth putting up with your BS arguing against a position the devs have not stated they'd take, and which I have some faith they'd realize would be foolish to adopt. In the various things the devs have disappointed me in - I doubt they'd disappoint me in this.
What I *do* think will happen:
They finish the basic (NoFX/tinting) power customization for pool/APP/PPP powers eventually.
They fund (or recoup) those costs with extra, 'fancy' or alternate animations that take more work and are sold, probably as a pack, in the paragon market. (And this extra pack, I'd be more than happy to purchase, not just to have the animations but to show support.... just like the wedding pack, way back when.) -
Incorrect.
They have given us *part of* something. They have done *partial* work. If there were no power customization *right now,* and had not been as part of the *base game* for six issues, you would have a point.
However, you may notice we currently have *partial, unfinished* power customization. And given you *cannot* go from 1-50 without dipping into at least two power pools (taking all primary/secondary powers, you'll have nothing to take at 23 or - I believe 29, as well as 41, 44, 47 and 49,) it's not unreasonable to expect them to *finish* this. You *will be exposed* to it.
I assume you work for a living. I also assume your boss doesn't (a) have "He's not going to do anything" for a base expectation, nor (b) is he perfectly fine with you starting a project, getting 80% finished, and then insisting on charging for the last 20%. (Or 90/10, somewhere in there.)
"Entitled," as you insist on incorrectly using it, would be if I were saying "Not only should they finish it, but they should add 5 alternate animations for every power and give ALL of that free."
If you bother reading again, you'll notice I:
1. Want the basic work finished - tinting/noFX - that they started in Issue 16, thus finishing (without extra charge) what they started to give us (without extra charge, and do note they were selling costume packs and the like at the time so charging was not an unknown idea,) and
2. have *no* issue whatsoever with having to pay for extra, custom animations, as that would be perfectly reasonable to ask for more money for. -
No, it's meeting base expectations.
If power customization were called "some power customization" or "partial power customization," you might, almost have a point. Much like I said in the post you responded to - if someone offered a *car* (expectations: complete) as opposed to a "project vehicle" or "fixer upper" (expectations: it will require money and labor on my part to get it to run.)
Me, I want them to *finish what they start.* Specifically, what they started in issue 16 and have talked about finishing since then. They've had six issues to do so, which, frankly, is yet another reason *not* to expect to have to pay extra for the basic (again, tinting/nofx, not fancy new alternate animation) work to get done.
Also, bravo on completely ignoring the rest of the post. -
Quote:No, I expect them to finish the basic work they started. (See prior notes about finishing work from issue 16.)You're complaining when someone gives you a car for free but then expects you to pay for the steering wheel.
Yeah, I think the word "entitlement" applies.
And yes, I would complain if someone tried to "give" me a car - not listed as a "project car" or "parts missing" - and it were missing basic parts. Yes, like a steering wheel.
If Paragon were a house construction company and Power customization were a house, they'd have the walls finished, most of the floors, half the cabinets, no doors or windows, and the crew would have taken a break for lunch a year ago and not come back. It is not a finished product. Wanting the house finished is not an unwarranted sense of "entitlement."
*AGAIN,* I'm not including fancy new animations. I want the *basic work* they started - NoFX options, tinting - with the other powers finished, as they've talked about for several issues now. If they want to sell "premium" bits (custom animations and the like,) that's fine - but *finish the basics.* Which they have not done yet. And should not charge for.
