I like the new Glad shoulder, however, it doesn't quite match the one costume I've used it on for quite some time. I backed out of the creator only to find my old shoulder gone, leaving me no choice but to use the new one. Oh well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you mean it disappeared, just zone. It did the same to me when I wanted to make sure of what I was seeing - heading from Cap to Oakes put it back.

Another gladiator pieces comparison, all in one shot.

    [/ QUOTE ]
What's all the hub-bub about? The new version looks sweet, and IMO is insignificantly different.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, I'm not arguing that - I like the newer version better, personally. That distorted "rivet" (actually a dot) always drew my eye on the character I took those shots on. Not to where "I couldn't play her" or anything, but it bugged me. The newer one looks like riveted material - with actual rivets - and the under-shoulder piece (to me) makes sense. I'm not sure how it affects others costumes, though.

At least my part of the discussion is the whole "You look the same, now pay us INF" from moving pieces and such. (To be fair, this character would have had to pay *anyway,* as she got a new face.)
  2. [ QUOTE ]

The part I queried was people complaining that the INF cost of the change is the major irritation/complaint with legacy parts.
I asked why the granting of costume change tokens isn't enough. (assuming that costume tokens are granted as per every other time similar has happened).
I feel a token to change for free is more than enough from the devs for that complaint. IMO a token payout is a much more effiecent use of time for dealing with the issue of it costing INF to redo costumes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It *is* just the irritation factor. At least for me. (That and trying to make sure you've got the same look/pattern/colors - not difficult for some costumes, a bit more of a pain for others.)

It's nice and all that they give the token. I'm not saying it's *not.* But starting the "Ok, what are Pants3 and Pattern8 called now" scavenger hunt... I'd rather not have to go through it to begin with. Just like if I go to, say, a movie theater and they run out of popcorn before I go to get some. Sure, they give me a coupon for a few bucks off, and that's nice and all, but I really wanted the popcorn. It doesn't ruin the entire experience, but it's disappointing.

That said, the thing that irritates me most about the pieces isn't that they're gone - but that the tailor wants to *charge* us for things we're not willingly changing...or that are simply rearranged on a menu!

    [/ QUOTE ]
This happens to be my major complaint.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with the keeping the old pieces in. I don't see any reason not too.
People are allowed to hit random after all, and often that will look worse than any legacy costume ....

But we do get plenty of free tailor tokens, so I don't see the complaint about having to 'pay' for pieces.
Without knowing the code and all, sure seems easier to grant a few costume tokens than work out who needs xx inf reimbursement.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not a question of reimbursement. It's a question of "It shouldn't be a charge in the first place to have the exact same piece moved around in a menu." I've got characters with 50+ free tokens, not counting vet tokens. I still find it *irritating* (not to mention that I then have to completely recreate the piece - color, pattern, etc. - as they're reset to generic tights or whatnot.)

It'd be like you buying a pair of jeans, wearing them for a month, then the store (thanks to rearranging the clothing section) coming to your house and charging you for them again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's an irritation, a waste of INF when you just want to change one little thing and find "Oh, guess what, that 1000 inf change now runs 800k because we moved a part in the menu.

I'd personally rather spend my INF crafting stuff for the SG (IOs for the lowbies, etc.) not replacing my pants with the exact same pair of pants.

(Edit: It's also partially due to the fact that "new" pieces aren't always an improvement. Issue 5, for instance, got some "revamped" skirts and lower female body items - that (a) had a different texture, or at least decidedly obvious deviding line between top and bottom, (b) looked like they were vacuformed to the character's butt or had perma-skid marks, and (c) couldn't take patterns any more. At all. Took a few issues to get that sort of resolved.)

    [ QUOTE ]

Edit: On a practical level, I wonder how much saving costumes would help with this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It wouldn't. The saved costume would have the old part "listing," so when you tried to use the save costume, you'd have invalid parts (so either you couldn't use it at all, or it'd revert to a plain tights or blank piece in that area.)

    Damn you, i15...

    You have a German background?

    That seems appropriate, here. >.>

As for the name, well, it means enchantress/wizardress, but it's been a long time since I've had any german, so my "sounds fine to me" doesnt' mean much, I suppose

Program crashes every time I click on the "My Creations" tab in MA.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Go into your "Missions" folder inside your COH directory. Create a new folder (call it "old missions" or something.) Move your current missions into it. Something in one of the old missions is causing the crash.

This happened during the MA beta with all the various updates and such, as well.

Add the missions back in, one at a time, until you find which one is causing it to crash - then just leave that mission out.

(It hit me, too. Fortunately, they were *older* missions, not the ones I was working on.)
  7. Unpublishing does NOT save a local copy. If you have a local copy from when you published, and you've made edits to the published copy, the local copy is now out of date.
  8. Silly question - did they have room in their recipe inventory? (I know, but get the simple, stupid stuff out of the way first.)
  9. Eh. I've got to say, "I don't really care."

For me, it's "Slightly more XP than patrol XP weekend!" which really takes quite a bit of luster from it. So... a preemptive post which will get promptly ignored.

    [ QUOTE ]

How to start on another server - or, Double XP Weekend Can't Bring Me Down!

Yes, another Double XP weekend has come and (almost) gone. Or perhaps there was an event, or a reactivation weekend, that swelled the population across the board. Characters were made, others were levelled, and a good time was had by all!

Well, perhaps not by all. There's a vocal minority, most of whom come from Freedom (by dint of it being the most populated server) who insist the weekend was ruined for them, that they couldn't play, that NCSoft owes them something or other for this.

Let's get the hardnose stuff out of the way here.
I'll get helpful later, but this does need to be said:

If you put all your eggs in one basket, it's your own fault you couldn't play. And as far as NCSoft owing anything? Read your EULA.

NC Interactive cannot guarantee that you will be able to access the Service or your Account whenever you may wish to do so.

NC Interactive shall not be liable for any interruption of the Service, delay or failure to perform resulting from any causes whatsoever.

What does that mean? The servers - ALL of them - can be down, and your option will be to wait 'til they fix it.

    But that doesn't help me!

You're right. It doesn't. But the rest of this will.

First, I fully understand being annoyed by not being able to play your favourite character. Really, I do. I fully understand having a main character on a main server. From what other denizens of Freedom tell me though... they can get on with just a few tries. Backing out and going back in lets them in.

Also - this isn't just about double XP weekend. Servers are hardware, software, and all that connects them. They can have problems. They're split to cover two coasts, and we've had half the servers be unavailable due to data center or network issues.

Wouldn't you like to be able to play regardless?

But I dont' want to move to another server!

Let's get a few arguments and misconceptions out of the way here first.

I don't want to spend ten bucks on a transfer!

While you can do this, it isn't what I'm suggesting. You CAN do this as part of the process, but setting up a character on another server costs absolutely nothing more than you pay right now.

All my friends/my SG/etc are on Freedom!

So bring them with you. And make new friends at the destination, too!

    (Server) is a ghost town!

Didn't you just say you had friends and an SG? If they come over with you, you're not starting with a so-called "ghost town," as incorrect as the idea *is.*

    My main is on Freedom!

That's fine. This is giving you the ability to play and meet new people if you can't get on freedom. Enjoying the game you're paying a subscription fee to play. To have fun. Isn't that the point?

I don't want to do this for a character that'll be played only three times a year!

That's an assumption - and it's something you can control, anyway. Read on.

    Making the move

OK. The important thing - how do you make this move? Here's a bunch of ideas for you.

First, pick a server. Talk it over with your friends and SG mates. Importantly, you want a west coast server. From experience around the country, you won't notice a difference playing - I've played East coast servers from Oregon, and West coast from the midwest and south. You wont' notice a difference.

Freedom is an East Coast server. Why is this important? Well, I mentioned earlier that the servers are split into two data centers. Every once in a while, a center has trouble - so multiple servers are unavailable. If you look at the Wiki, you'll see which servers are where.

What you want to consider is a west coast server. Those are:
    Champion
    Guardian
    Justice
    Protector
    Virtue

    Pick one!

Now, you've picked a server. We'll use Champion for our example. What now?

Well, now you have to create characters and a supergroup. Yes, you're starting over (unless someone pays ten bucks to move a character witha bunch of INF over, or risks market transfers.) Say you've convinced six people to come with you. What do you do to avoid having ignored lowbies?

    Create an event!

Redside? How about Mastermind Mania. Every, say, second Sunday, get on your masterminds on Champion and just play for an hour. Team, obviously! And don't forget supergroup mode. You want a base! Or be the Sunday Scourge. Maybe the fourth Saturday you run Blasters, blowing up everything in sight. How about Task or Strike Force Fridays? Or even just farming?

Guess what. Soon... you'll have some decently levelled characters, a supergroup base, and the core of a new group which you can play any time Freedom's not available.

And if you think the folks you came with are only going to play those? Think again. Someone's going to say "Y'know, we could use a corruptor," and roll one, then have it invited to the group. Or a dom. Or a defender.

    In addition... *Mention your event!*

You're on the forum RIGHT NOW reading this. If you go down the lsit of forums a ways, you'll see *server forums.* Pop into the server you chose and say "Hey, we've got a new group, and we run X event on this specific day. Come join us - roll a new character, if you want!"

While you're at it - *tell people in game, too!* So you're down to four one week? Broadcast. "The Exiled Freedom group (I don't know if it exists, if it's yours, pardon the borrow) is running Mastermind Madness this week. Want in? We've got Sk spots!" Meet new people and grow your group!

Some folks, if they know you're trying to just start a "backup" group or a new SG, will probably help out in other ways, too. While farming is generally frowned on by the community, farming to get a new SG off the ground *can* be a way to meet new people who are willing to help.

    After a while?

You have a new supergroup. A secondary "main," perhaps. New people on the friends list. And next time Freedom's not available, you have a place to invite your friends who are now stuck there, helpign them level up a new character and enjoy the time.

And isn't that what it's all about?

  12. OK, so what's the suggestion or idea?

    "More stuff?"

Well, congrats, Issue 15 is here, issue 16 is coming, with more issues after that. There's another expansion and another "theme pack" coming, with at least two others (one per origin) also planned.

So the point of this rant was... what, exactly? And why was it here?
  13. And... crashign out of the MA editor with *some* older local MA files.

Moved my oldest ones (which are published anyway...) into a separate folder, and it starts up fine... otherwise, hard crash when clicking on "My creations," to the "What were you doing?" window.
  14. Reiterating the second question, as well - does anything *at all* show up, ever, during the process?

Assuming this is an LCD, given you're using DVI... if you turn everything off (computer and LCD, not just shut down/sleep) and JUST turn on the monitor, does it at least give you something like "No signal detected?"

If you can't even see that, I'm half wondering if the backlight in the LCD isn't shot. Doesn't mean the point about the wonky info above isn't troubling as well, but it is something else to consider.

(If you DO see the "no signal detected" and the very first bit of BIOS info - VGA card/ram, etc, but not the Windows info, well... then that's not the case.)

Does it show anything in Safe mode? (for the heck of it.) F8 while starting. This, of course, depends on it actually showing the BIOS information from the last section.

    Let's see:

Old pieces have a nasty habit of looking horrible with newer costume pieces. What is the sence of going backwards in graphic design just to cater to a few people who want to hold onto the "purity" of their character.

  21. No thanks.

For one, not every Kheld is a triform, so cutting duration would be a bad nerf for them. Forms are an option, not a necessity. For another, it's more useful with that duration than without.
  22. Note, however, that you only unlock them per side. IOW, you have a 50 villain, you can make VEATs, but not Khelds (and vice versa.)

Otherwise, yes, every server. If they're not unlocked, log on to your 50 again, then off and try again.

You can, IIRC, complete the mission - the problem is that some of the longbow that WOULD go to the bank end up heading to the jail instead (and potentially getting lost.)

I tend to do these things solo, in any case - at least for a first run at any level. One hero, one (or two) Longbow. Easy to tell if they're all there
