Pretty poor showing for an 'Epic' AT. It does say Epic, after all. Not 'Challenge', or 'Oh god that hurt' ATs. Epic.
Please note, "Epic" has ALWAYS supposed to mean epic as in "epic poem." Tied to a story. Not "So come in and hit the i win button so I don't have to do anything." Khelds have an actual bacstory, an AT-specific path they take alongside everything else going on, a far-reaching storyarc playing in the shadows of the regular ones.

*looks at the utter lack of anything reasonably called a storyarc for most of a VEATs existance* Hmm. Not "epic" there, either. Unless I'm supposed to count newspaper missions?

    Help with a PB

Forms can be a stage, as well. (Don't forget, we DO have dual builds now.)

Grab Nova, work with it for a while, paying attention to what comes up in humanform. Mid-20s to 30, switch over, work the slots from Nova into the Human build, and keep going. And if you're not comfortable with all human yet - you can just wander over to a trainer and switch back.

I definitely say try out the forms. While you're at it, though, remember you don't have to take *both* forms, either - but I do encourage you to give them a good, solid try out. They're part of what defines a Kheld as an AT (or two,) after all.

No, in that case the controllers pay attention to what the other is doing and try to work together instead of against each other. At least good players do - work together for the good of the team, that is. Yes, sometimes that means not using favored powers at every possible opportunity. But not every mob, doorway, etc. needs to be ice slicked/creepered/earthquaked. (Obviously that doesn't mean the occasional "oops, I got my chocolate on your peanut butter" doesn't happen - it does - but it means to put the ego (for lack of a better word) aside and work as a team.)

Creepers, at least, are better than (say) Frostbite or Cages in this regard, in that they spawn an entity that can take a hit or two - so the aggro isn't necessarily getting redirected back at you and your team when the enemies stop flopping.

All that aside, my Plant/Thorn Dom has a blast seeing Scrapyard come out. Even con to the mobs, even pre-creeper, she chewed them up and spit them out. Got the badges for the scrapyarders, kept going. I think by the time they conned grey to her, she was probably - solo - at about 600+ Scrapyarders defeated for 3-4 of her own - and she got Creepers about halfway through that, which was just sick. I'm tempted to roll another up *just* to play around in that range again.

One side question - seeing Creepers come out, as I'm recalling, I'm also seeing grey numbers coming up from defeated bodies. Cause? They're already defeated, they're certainly not taking dmaage.

    Buff AR

Add more R's to the end and have the gun shoot pirates.
  5. No plans for raising the level cap. The devs have been far m ore interested in alternatives to just "bigger numbers."

The reason both COH and COV started at 40 and went to 50 is... that there were no 40s on release. Gives the players time to play through, lets the game be released a little earlier, gives the devs a bit of time to polish up 40-50.
  6. Whenever I get tired of them.

Some have been done by level 10 and deleted. Others still roll strong after 50.

And, for contrast, I'm the exact opposite. Just rolled up another warshade this past week, and enjoying it tremendously. VEATs? No, no thanks, do not want, tedious, boring, waste of 23 levels to begin each one you roll, and not even a decent story to go along with them.

For me - VEATs suck, horridly. Very much not-fun. Choice between them and a week solid of root canals without anesthetic? The root canals would start out well in the lead.

Of course, me being me, I'm running a crab now (the only one so far I've found the least bit interesting, and I'm still looking at the next 26 levels going "Do I REALLY want to do this?") to see if I feel any different about it than I do the widow or bane. And if a duo I agreed to goes anywhere (as the other person doesn't particularly like their VEAT either,) another will probalby go "huntsman." I have *absolutely* no urge to roll a fort.

But ugh, VEATs, to me, equal tedious and boring.

Meanwhile - two peacebringers and a warshade at 50. LOVE playing them, as well as all the others at all the other level ranges. (Oh, that first 50 PB? Pre-IOs. Most of the way on the Shade that way, too.)

In any case, looking at the build - (notes changed for later build) Pull the endmods (or most of them) out of Dwarf. Put them (as end reduction) in your attacks unless you're ONLY going for forms,w ith human buffing in between. (Humanform plays differently than bi or tri.)

If you're sticking mostly to forms, drop Fitness all together. It does nothing in forms. (Barring global IOs - IO bonuses and the like do carry through.) See if you can fit Quantum Flight in somewhere. Yeah, you're staying in form mostly it looks like, but there are times it's useful. Very fast phase with capped flight, no slotting really needed. I *personally* like adding a Range (or a Range/something dual IO) to Scatter.

... heck, I'd just say post down in the Kheld forums.
  8. This just popped into mind, after seeing one of the Wyvern blithely walk by the bodies of two of his defeated comrades.

As an option (higher difficulty settings, or a distinct on/off selection,) have defeated foes give off a (minor) taunt aura. Not enough to overwhelm a tank's taunt, but enough to get someone walking by to stop and start looking around for "who did this?" Even a taunt "pulse" would work.

(It's either that or an AI upgrade to actually make them curious as to why Fred there is taking a nap in the middle of the floor.)

Note this would only take effect on *defeated* enemies. A regular ranged pull would have no extra chance of causing group aggro (unless, of course, you one-shot the guy.)

It's not peoples opinions doing that. It's his belief that all who are in game are there solely for his teaming pleasure, meant to drop all they're doing immediately when he wants a team. (See also "asking me to wait while they finish their mission makes me so mad!" Or, in his own words:

  10. I don't know how big an issue adding (or removing) weapons and such from sets that already have (or don't have) them would be - even with existing animations. I can't see arguing with most of this if it is possible, though.

But with the OP's post just sitting there, I have no idea. (Yes, making the assumption of "he" as well, I know.) And no, I have no expectation anyone would know who I am, either

Are they saying this based on PVP experience? Solely or primarily from a PVP point of view? I have nothing to base their statement on.

However, I do stand by what I said about replacement vs adding. Find somewhere adding to makes sense and it'd be good, instead of replacing which will cause arguments.

    /This.

If I've been working on the "Save 20 magicians" mission (for instance,) I'm down to two or even the last one, and you send me a team invite? Guess what, sparkles, you are *waiting.* Finding a last glowie, finding a wandering patrol in a big cave or lab map? You're *waiting.* I am NOT starting that over for YOUR convenience. The people I WOULD drop that for in an instant? They're also good enough players and considerate enough *people* that they wouldn't ask me to.

And as for "Hang out at pocket D," so what? What business is it of yours what they're doing there? They could be waiting for a PVP match with a friend to get set up, could be RPing (you know the whole MMORPG thing,) or anything else - it's their $15/month.

If you can't wait that long, too damn bad. And if I tell you "Need to find the last glowie here" and you fire back some crap about not waiting, you instantly go on /gignore and get single-starred (then I log in to the second account on the other machine and do the same thing.)
  13. As the devs learned when they did the fifth power addition - outright *replacing* powers is VERY unpopular. Adding to works.

It's like actually announcing things on the official site, where I'd *expect* to see news, announcements and t he like, is a completely alien concept.

I'm half expecting to have to download I17 from Gamespy or something.
  15. How long has it been since you published them? Just put them up?

If you search on your global under the main page, does it show up?
  16. "If only I had more room to take THIS power!"
"I'd PVP, but I don't feel like hosing my PVE build."
"I wish I had more offense. I have so many team powers that are useless when I solo."
"I'd respec, but I don't want to make a mistake there and destroy my current build."

Have you ever thought thoughts like this? Well, congrats, your wish has been answered!

Actually, it was answered some time ago. The COH team introduced dual builds back in Issue 13, yet it seems many people still aren't aware of them. Dual builds are interesting, potentially useful things to have.

How do I unlock dual builds?

It's a long and difficult process, but I'll walk you through it. Ready?

Step 1: Get to level 10.

Yes, that's it. Dual builds become available for your character at level 10 automatically. You don't need a level 50, you don't need to run a trial or have vet rewards of any level. Just hit level ten and Bing! There they are.

    Issue 19/Incarnate update!

You can now unlock, not a double, but a TRIPLE build! Once you visit Mender Ramiel and finish your Incarnate arc, you will have the option for a third build. This, so far, is the only build you need to do something to unlock.

How do I use dual builds?

When you want to use your dual build, just go to any trainer. You don't have to do it WHEN you level - if you're four bubbles in to level 23, go do it. If you're a bubble away from 11, you can do it. It doesn't matter. At the trainer, you will see an option to "Select your active build." By default, these are called "Build 1" and "Build 2." Select build 2, and confirm you want to do so.

You will be starting over from level "0," essentially - you pick a primary power, then a secondary separately. From then, it's JUST like levelling normally until you're at your main build's current level. *NOTE Yes, this means if you're doing a VEAT and hit 24, you'll be levelling 23 times, then starting over yet again. Yes, it's an annoyance.

    Next - you buy enhancements.

No, enhancements are not shared between the two builds. They are, in essence, two separate characters sharing one slot. (Obviously you still have your recipes, inventory, and influence or infamy.)

You can also name the builds. One caveat, though, it's on the same timer (sort of) as switching builds (once every 15 minutes.) So if you wanted to try an "Original" and a "test" build and call them that, name the original build "Original," then switch. You won't be able to name the new build for 15 minutes, since the game won't let you into that menu. Hopefully this will change in the future.

Why would I use dual builds?

The reasons are varied. I'll go over a few possibilities, though:

    1. The Pre-Respec Respec (or I don't want to nuke my build until I'm sure.)

Don't have a respec handy? Have one but you want to see how the build actually operates? Want to see how a different APP or PPP works? Use your second build! Your primary build is tucked away safely under "Build 1," so if you find the second build *just* doesn't do it for you, you can switch back. Of course, any future changes will require a respec to be used (unless we get more builds at some point,) but this is a quick and dirty way to respec without being a vet, having a recipe drop, or having to run a trial. Remember, of course, the second (or third) build needs its own enhancements.

    2. Solo vs Team builds

This is a huge one for me. Some powersets are mostly useful no matter if you're teamed or solo (Radiation Emission, for one.) Others are more team oriented - Thermal, Empathy, Sonic and Force Fields come to mind. If you're solo, you can use the second build to build up a "Solo" build that drops (for instance) the shields, Clear Mind/Fortitude, or other powers you can't use on yourself in favor of more offense or other power pools. This opens up a LOT of slots in some builds (for instance, my Dark/Thermal Corruptor, in her solo build, has in essence a three power secondary - Warmth (the self heal,) Heat Exhaustion and Melt Armor. That gives me six more powers to pick to fill out her concept or build her offense -so she has the Presence pool and a full primary.)

    3. Concept vs Team builds

Want to play a petless Mastermind, but want to keep your tanking ability on teams? Here's your chance! Make your petless Concept build on build 1, and your Tankermind build on build 2. When you're solo or on a concept team, stick with your concept. PUGging it? Break out the pets.

    4. PVE vs PVP

Sometimes you want to ensure you have certain powers at certain levels - or "mule" powers, or certain pools and slotting for PVP. Meanwhile, you're reasonably effective already in PVE. Well, here you go - keep your PVE build, and make a PVP tuned build when you want to take on your fellow players.

    5. The Exemplar build

Somewhat related to the PVE/PVP reason - Want to make sure you have certain powers when you exemp down for Positron? Even with Issue 16's SSK and extended powers availability for Exemplaring, you may still want certain powers at certain levels you skipped on the way up. Rebuild with those in mind, while keeping your current, effective, high level build intact.

    6. HEATs (Kheldians) - Human vs Multiform

Kheldians are interesting creatures to play. (I know, I have several of them at 50.) Many go dual or tri form - especially with an AOE powerhouse like Nova available at level 6. Yet others choose to go "pure human" form. Well, this can give you the best of both worlds, letting you try both play styles with a simple switch of a build.

    7. VEATs (SoA) - I want to be one of those!

VEATs and dual builds are... interesting. As noted earlier, using dual builds means you get hit with the forced respec at 24 with the new build again, which to me makes the process... irritating. For Widows, that's the only snag - you can switch between Widow and Fortunata without much hassle.

For Soldiers, however, there's one catch at this time. If EITHER BUILD uses ANY Crab powers, BOTH are going to end up with the Crab backpack - even if the other build goes Bane (locking them all out of that build.) So be aware of that. If you don't want the legs, don't take any crab powers in EITHER build - which limits you to bane or "huntsman."

    8. Whatever other reason you want.

Do I have to use dual builds?

Nope. Not at all. Even though I'm a big fan of them, maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of my characters use them. They're a purely optional utility for your use.

    Incarnate Power update:
    Added 5/29/2011

With I19/I20 and Incarnate slots and powers, you may be wondering how they and dual builds interact.

Incarnate powers are exempt from the "Nothing is shared between builds" statement. If you have (say) Nerve slotted in alpha, the Reactive proc, War Works pets, etc. slotted while playing build 1, they're all *still* slotted in build 2 and 3. They don't care what build you're on (mostly because you can slot/unslot them independently without a respec.)

    So, in a nutshell:
ENHANCEMENTS - must be purchased/crafted/slotted for each build on their own. (Yes, that means they can expire on one build you don't use much while you level the other.)

TEMP POWERS - are unaffected. If you have time/charges/whatever, that's maintained regardless of build.

INCARNATE POWERS - are unaffected. If you've unlocked one, it stays unlocked. Anything slotted stays slotted, anything crafted stays crafted. It does not need re-unlocking or re-crafting per build.

I forget which it was, but one /bugged during two different missions the other night, 35-40 range, where the mission indicator ended up at the lower floor desk of the AE building,) the game having issues with certain hardware/software combos, anythign that would be /bugged, other?
  19. 1. All of them.

    2. Depends. People don't stick to any one server necessarily. Some do. Others play across multiple servers. Where, precisely, would you count those people? If you're looking for load, watch the server list. It goes from last on at the top, then lightest to heaviest load.

    3. There have been spikes and dips throughout its history, but 100-125k is the range it's been in. Recently we haven't had numbers published, but have been told subs went up recently.
  20. "Most useless class" = none of them, honestly. If you want some sort of out-there challenge, or self-gimping, look into ignoring as many of your powers as possible and going pool-power heavy. Say, a blaster with Presence, Leadership (low numbers on it,) Fighting and Concealment.

I'd argue, with this game, it certainly *isn't* a detail. Especially with the time people can put into the costume creator. *Every other game* makes you lose any uniqueness you have within 5 levels as you exchange "starter gear" for "slightly better than starter gear," your "pointy stick of pointiness" for "newbie sword of poking" or what have you.

It's one of the few disappointing things (to me) in Aion. They have a great face creator with body options - but you can't do anything with the outfits. Why? Because *it won't matter in a few levels.* You'll end up with similar gear to every other fighter/mage/ranger/cleric/chanter/etc. in your level range soon enough, because if you don't, you might as well just start insta-funnelling the money you make to the soul healer.

Here? Several of my original (c.2005) characters still have their original costumes. They've moved to IOs, they've respecced, etc. but my Fire/SS tank doesn't look like every other tank, my Elec/Elec blaster isn't less powerful because she's wearing a four and a half year old outfit, my Spine/Inv scrapper is still dressed for his backstory, etc. That, to me, is certainly not a detail - and it's a welcome change from "gear" based MMOs.

What I'd propose are the following item slots:
    1. Necklace ( Focus: Buff, Debuffs, Control, Special )
    2. Left Ring ( Focus: Damage/Accuracy )
    3. Right Ring ( Focus: Damage/Accuracy )
    4. Belt Buckle ( Focus: HP/Endurance Regeneration )
    5. Left Kneepad ( Focus: Defense/Resistance )
    6. Right Kneepad ( Focus: Defense/Resistance )
    7. Left Ankle Bracelet ( Focus: Running/Flight Speed )
    8. Right Ankle Bracelet ( Focus: Running/Flight Speed )
    9. Cape Brooch ( Special )

I would not make these items overly powerful - more like "nice to have", but not a huge advantage.
    Examples:
Necklace of Control: 2% extended duration on hold powers
Ring of Domination: 2% extra single target damage
Ring of Fire: 10% of your smashing/lethal damage is converted to fire damage
Buckle of Fortitude: 1% increase to endurance regeneration and 2% extra hit points
Bracelet of Akira: 2% increase to flight speed
Brooch of Arachnida: 1% chance to spawn several spider pets ( 10 min cooldown after proc )
Crimson Kneepads: 3% increase to fire resistance
Kneepad of Conversion: 10% of energy damage taken is treated like S/L damage.
Kneepad of Punishment: 1% of damage taken is mitigated and reflected back to your attacker.

I'd have items specific to certain origins and rare items only dropping in certain task forces. There are too many task forces that simply arent run that often - this would give an incentive.

Rarity: Varying from common to purple, with bonuses varying depending on the rarity.

I just feel enhancements are a bit too generic - this would give a hook that new players from other RPGs would feel comfortable with, and possibly help with retention. The devs would have to be careful, of course, not too make them overpowered. I'd leave it up to the devs whether these items would be visible or not.
No thanks. One of the things that's *great* about this game is that we don't have costume items affecting our powers. Our "look" is specifically that - a look, part of the "signature" of our characters. I'm not more vulnerable because I like the first costume I came up with and don't want to put the Kneepads of Recluse and the Earrings of Back Alley Brawler on.

I wouldn't argue with having the points available *for* costume bits - just don't tie stats to them.

(As a contrast, I'm also playing Aion, which is "typical" in this regard - you keep upgrading armor and costume pieces, including earrings, gloves, etc. as you level to improve your defense, offense, resistance and the like. Which means if you finally get a set look you like, you won't have it in five more levels - or you'll be using substandard gear. While I enjoy the game, that's one of the things that bugs me greatly coming from here.)
