No, not "multiple tanks." Not "need healers." Just a team that's even nearly halfway competent. Something it sounds like you have never run across.

*snort* The more you insist you need "healers" the less seriously I take you. Especially insisting you need two. Give me debuffers, give me controllers, give me enough damage going out. I've run my *fire tank,* not particularly IOd, in the late 30s in a full team of mid-40s fighting very purple carnies. Smart pulling, use of taunt for close spawns, buffs, debuffs... not "ZOMG you need 2 h33lrz!" (To point out the obvious, no I wasn't tanking +7-+8, I was SK'd (pre-SSK,) but my SK was low enough and they were buffed enough to be quite purple.)

Lived just fine, thanks. Think I died once in that entire map (city with the little "carnie park" on one side) when we got a *second* full spawn a bit too close aggroed.

"Blood stains on the floors." Riiiight. We have three possibilities here. You're wrong, you've been playing with imbeciles, or I am a tanking god. And if you say the third's the case, I'm going to laugh even more, because even *I* wouldn't say that. Hell, I know D3 Defenders that can out-tank tanks.... without "zomg where are the healers!" Yes, full team, +levels. (pre-current-difficulty changes, pre-IOs.) No "healers."

Edit: Yes, there are VERY SPECIFIC situations you want "tank with emp support" - old Hami tanking, for instance. But as a general rule? No.

And a tank without either buff? I'll never call a buff "useless," as I'm better off WITH it than without it.

No, you won't, if people actually work together instead of having a "team" made up of multiple people soloing.

A good team isn't about the right mix of players or ATs, it's about the right mix of powersets,
So incredibly wrong. God would need a radio telescope to see the faintest glimmer of "right" from just how wrong this is. A set of players that pays the least bit of attention will, frankly, make "which powerset do you have" irrelevant. And players that don't pay attention? Still irrelevant, because they won't be using the tools at their disposal very well to begin with. You don't need a "holy trinity" or any other "must have" mix of powersets here.
  6. $15/mo is just not that hard to come up with. If it is, there are bigger issues to deal with than "Where's my MMO Sub money going to come from?" Like - finding food and paying rent.

Plus, as Lothic pointed out - we've JUST had GR released. Seems it'd be a bad time to even consider it.
  7. Easy way to see?
Head in to the character creator, fake your way through 'til you pick the powersets. Pick "Show info" and look.

. I take it much later than level 8 though, usually between levels 20 and 30
At level 8, it's far more useful (Madness mages start at level 5, for instance) as not even all the melee are going to have their mez protection powers - which often come in at 12 or later. Far better to hit CM and let them grab a green than *not* have it and have several mezzed teammates. I would *never* suggest putting this off. Yes, even as a "selfish emp," as teammates that are keeping the enemies occupied keep you alive.

Personally, I've emped just fine with dropping (or never taking) Absorb Pain. Empathy's also nice for dual builds, if you want a solo build, as there are a few skippable powers. (HO, AP, CM, Fort - though I'd take fort if you were doing a solo non-mind controller build, for use on the pet.)
  9. Can only say that the 5770 does pretty nicely in COH (I'm running one now.) Can't give you personal experience on it vs the 9800GT.

I've had three drop in two missions. And I've gone months without seeing one - granted, I don't play the 50s continually, but when I was doing my "one of everything to 50," I was in range often enough you'd expect me to see them.

  12. Oobe's warshade - I have a lvl 50. Just for pointing out the obvious. Doubly so when he hit 50 with it.

And a stalker I used to have an ongoing rivalry with, Peek a Boo.

This, admittedly, was one of mine I just never played, so he no longer exists, but it makes me grin still -

There are a (very) few things that Hami-os still cover that IOs don't. However, IOs open up a lot of possibilities. 35+, the generic IOs (damage, etc.) are stronger than SOs, and of course don't expire. Set IOs, even when not of the same set, can be mix-and-matched to be stronger than the same attributes of SOs. (Used to have a guide bookmarked for it - search player guides for "cheapskate," think you'll find it.)

    Quote:
Set Bonus: I think I just figured this one out actually. Are these from having a hole same group of those Invention Enhancements? And are they always a set of 6?
Yes to a set. No to them always being a set of 6. They can be from 3-6 enhancements. And you can only fit one of a certain type in a slot (for instance, Crushing Impact Dam/Acc can be the ONLY Crushing Impact Dam/Acc in the power. You can put the others from Crushing Impact in, or, say, a Mako's Bite Dam/Acc in there - the second would be an example of "frankenslotting.")

Shields: Do you get more choices for defeats like you do with swords?
Yes. See the wiki, "weapon customization" I believe.

    Quote:
Side Kick/Exemplar: Does this really work at all like it used to? As in with this Auto thing. Mostly wondering if it is still possible to get the SK/Exemplar badges?
Possible to get them still, yes. Right now, everyone's basicallly SK'd to whoever has the star (or ex'd beneath them) - just as a quick and dirty explanation.

    Quote:
Enhancements: With a lvl 50 enhancement slotted and your doing a lvl 30ish missions (and your lvl is lowered down to that) is there any benefit to your powers whatsoever.
    Yes, but reduced IIRC.

For CoP: People often mention to bring , Chivans, Nukes, Heavies, etc. What are these and where do they come from. I'm assuming that they are something that you can summon. I haven't been able to have much luck finding anything on the wiki for them I'm probably just not looking them up right.
Shivans - Zone "minigame" in Siren's Call. 5 use pet.
Nukes - "minigame" from Warburg. Both are PVP zones.
Relatively easy to get, as the PVP zones aren't exactly active. I have some explanation (again, see sig) in the PVE'ers PVP guide.

  14. 170-some, probably closer to 180, over two accounts.

I just play what seems interesting to me, play what is tied in with friends' characters RP wise, play something I haven't played in a while, run through the servers to pay base rent and see someone I haven't played and play them, get a new idea and play them, etc.

(Also... defender != healer. Don't want to play like that, don't. :P Roll a Stormy. Roll a TA. Roll a controller and use the defender primary as a secondary. )

Edit: Correction. Just looked. 217 active characters. Most (total of both accts) on Victory (44) and Pinnacle (35,) fewest on Freedom (6) .
  15. "Meet system requirements" doesn't mean that much - head up to technical issues/bugs, there's info there on posting system specs and such. They can go over the system and give you some suggestions. Of course, if it's network latency...
  16. It's split between the two shields. (And with Burn actually worthwhile now, you don't *have* to go the CJ route for immob protection, either.) Temperature protection for some slow/-rech resistance.

(Reminds me. Need to tweak my DB/Fire scrapper to fit Burn in.)

I know you didn't. They USED to have various penalties when introduced (I3.) They USED to not have their inherent stay through form changes. Voids and Quantums USED to be a threat instead of "Hey, look, more XP for me!" People remember that, unfortunately. Now, the only issue they have, really, is slot crunch as a multiform - and that's offset by IOs and frankenslotting.

As far as future epics, latest word we had was "nothing in the works right now." Prior concepts and their status? *points to sig* last word we have, go through EAT at Posi's in the sig.

But they started out being force ably implanted into hosts. Which falls into the science origin.
Um, not exactly. Read the lore. (And there's a handy dandy guide right in my sig.)

Peacebringers are normal Kheldians. The powers granted are the same as any normal Kheldian (not Nictus - and Warshades are essentially rebel Nictus) would have in that relationship.

Nictus, however, are not science for the reason you give. They were Kheldians undertook experiements on extending their lifespans which altered them enough to be a new sort of being - the Nictus. Has nothing to do with being forcibly implanted. That bit was purely one scheme the Nictus on Earth had to try to start a takeover. The Nictus and the Peacebringers, frankly, want to wipe each other out - though the Nictus can use them to live off of (see: Cosmotron arc.) Warshades are Nictus who have turned their backs on the Nictus side of the war and are now fighting against them to stop them.

(And to whoever was saying Khelds suck, all I can say is "lol.")
  19. Epic = tied to a storyline. Not "godmode."

As they both have specific storylines you play through (admittedly the VEAT arcs suck,) they are exactly what they're supposed to be.

It'd need teams big enough to support this kind of distinction, which is one of CoH PvP's problems. Little to no casual PvP players.
And yet, those same casual PVP players (and I'm throwing myself in there, as I have no PVP builds, belong to no PVP SGs, and only PVP occasionally) can still manage to hold an entire zone (when busy, pre-I13 rules.)

Four corruptors. We held Siren's against *determined* opposition for over half an hour.

To get this to work, it's all about critical mass. You need game types that are interesting enough for the "not-Deathmatch" types of PvPers and a PvP system that's close enough to the PvE system that transition is smooth. If you get that, and get a decent amount of people to come, you can have a fun team based FPS-type/MMO-gameplay PvP experience that few if no other games can offer. Especially with the mobility powers we can have in this game. A lot of strategy will probably be on how to counter these. Dropping Caltrops for Speeders and Jumpers, having anti-Air defenses... and how do you stop Teleport, anyway? With a twisted map layout?
PVP in this game has really centered around *teams.* 1v1? It's doable, with some builds, absolutely. However, get a team together, covering each others weaknesses and reinforcing the strengths - and teleport? Pre-13, Sturdies, defense (as it still requires tohit,) some powersets could just ignore it (Energy aura - spent lots of time laughing at people who tried to teleport me over and over on my EM/EA brute) and, I *believe,* ID from Kinetics, among other powers. There were a number of counters.

But you do need enough people interested to *form* those teams.
  21. So... I did a little compiling. Decided a good way to enjoy a bunch of these was - taking a page from the "caitlyns" bit - as wallpaper. Let Win7 flip through 'em.

Little photoshop here and there to get a consistent size and good groups together, and viola.

  23. It'll be fun, EG.

Quick walkthrough from maximum pc here. Parts are a touch different, but if you want to "watch" someone doing it, there you go.

Also - if something doesn't fit, turn it around. If it still doesn't fit, it probably doesnt' go there.

Thermal paste - note that most modern CPUs that come with a heatsink will have some pre-applied to the CPU. Don't add more - if you want to replace it, do so (and clean off the old with isopropyl alcohol.) Don't forget to take off the plastic cap covering the paste.
  24. ... or the actual cityscape. Or some other background.

The bright yellow is awful on the character selection screen, too, but it certainly throws things off in the character creator.
