Is it a laptop?
Processor - perfectly fine. More than enough.
RAM - plenty.
OS - You're quite likely running AT LEAST WinXP. (My computer -right click - properties will tell you.)
The only thing that looks a bit weak (to me) is the graphics card. I'm assuming this is a preassembled system. If so, give make/model and the folks here can see if it's upgradeable. -
Quote:Riiight. Because that model has NEVER succeeded. I mean, other than a good six and a half years here. Or, what, a decade plus at Everquest. Or a little game called World of Warcraft. Yeah, nobody would EVER find that a successful, profitable model.i mean buying the disc is one thing then paying to play the game i mean come on kinda stupid
Would you like to phone a friend?
Oh, and you do realize that those "F2P" games pretty much require you to buy everything past the Wimpy Tin Sword of Bending and the Aluminum Armor of DontHitMePlease, right? -
Quote:Um...Placate is way to an OP power for just any AT to have. Never happen.
Perhaps you've heard of a little thing called Day Jobs.
Clubber + Fashion Designer = Socialite. Reward power - "Beguile," which is... Placate. Accessible to everyone. And, as mentioned, only Stalkers (and perhaps 3 of 4 VEATs) get any bonus other than shed aggro from the power. -
Quote:/this.i still consider the changes to MoG a buff. It even thematically suits the set now instead of turning you from a character who heals really quickly to a character with capped defense against most damage types who can't heal at all and takes quadruple damage from psi attacks with no defense against psi at all. (Technically it took you to 1/4 hp and gave you 75% damage resistance against all damage but psi and special damage types.)
New(er) MoG is much better overall IMO.
And -rech, to me, makes perfect sense - you're already healing faster than anything else, getting through something making you sluggish should also be faster.

Natural does not mean "Natural Human," after all - ask any Peacebringer.

We're being invaded by forum-newbies! Ahhhhh! *runs around in circles*
*hits button marked 'In case of forum newbie invasion, press here' repeatedly*
*watches as refreshments arrive*
OK, that's better. -
And since there is no such thing as a hopeless character / powerset combination, there's no need for this. I've run across some I don't personally *like* (Illusion/anything, Bots/FF) but that doesn't make them hopeless. And with 11 servers with 12-36 slots each (except for the EU,) you've got plenty of chances to roll something else you DO like for general playing, while keeping your badger around for the new shinies.
-
Big issue already is the whole "Stay in one place, don't leave the circle" bit. Just looking at Radiation Emission (which lets you *move* at least,) by the time the rad gets two debuffs on a medium to large team (short of an AV,) the target's dead and the team's moving on.
You're creating a stand-still set in a quickly moving game so far. And what about knockback? You've got great whatever-you've-chosen, then a Fake Nem hits you with its staff and you're flying across the room... and out of your circle. What you have *so far* is a set filled with Spirit Trees or Triage Beacons.
(Edit: I'm actually not as concerned with the 'origin-tied' idea, though normally it would concern me - as I see it and the Technomages from B5 come to mind. Decidedly tech based, but their actions look like magic - more show than anything.) -
Quote:/this.It doesn't matter how many times you want to suggest this idea or how many ways you reword it to try to make it sound different, the fact remains that every single time the devs have responded to the respec suggestions it has always been the same answer. They are not going to let us respec into new powersets.
The only people that get hostile in these threads are the people that don't want to accept that the devs aren't going to implement this idea.
And before anyone comes up with "But power customization blah blah blah" or something similar, the devs have a few reasons for saying no to things:
1. Engine doesn't allow it. (Stretching.)
2. Too much labor involved (Power customization back when they had 15 people.)
3. They disagree with the idea and will not implement it (this sort of respec.) -

Silver Age Sentinels. The Tri-stat system, with its metric ton of dice needed for half of what I wanted to do.
Some friends of mine and I had a weekly gaming night. We jumped between DND, Shadowrun, All Flesh Must Be Eaten (ok, mostly halloween games there, but fun) and, for a while, a SAS campaign. I'd had a character inspired in some ways by Scuzz from DP 7 (yes, I *did* like some of the New Universe.) Strong, could take a hit, always basically oozing a highly acidic substance while showing up in the wrong place and irritating the "big names" in the city.
If you've never blown up a bunker by using an acidic spitball (and getting one heck of a nice die roll,) well...
In any case, that game got put on pause after we finished one campaign and one of our number went off to join the army. But I still felt like playing *something* superhero-ish. Freedom Force didn't really do it for me - fun little game, but "eh." I ran across COH (CE) in Wal-mart for twenty bucks, said "pay monthly for a game I already bought? Don't think so.. but, eh, free month and it's cheap. I can always drop the sub before it renews."
... yeah. still here. Forum date's about a week behind my signup date. >.<
Tried getting as close to that SAS character as I could with my first character. Didn't want a spines character, though it handled the toxic (and ranged attack) side of things... went with a Fire/SS Tank, the first Memphis Bill. (I've remade him on other servers trying to find a better fit - closest was initially a SS/Dark brute, but - well, wrong side. Now there's a Dark/SS tank who's the way he should have been, pretty much.)
Now, two accounts, 200+ characters, made some good RL friends out of it as well. -
Yep.
Often a pun of some sort. -
Throwing my two cents in, though it's echoing other sentiments.
If you're in private - SG base, mission, whatever - I don't care. If you ******* want to ****** swear every ****** other ****** word, that's ***** up to you, ******. As long as everyone ELSE is OK with it. Don't just assume that it's OK, though - if I were in the group, for instance, I'd probably ask you to tone it down.
Publicly? Yes, people have a filter. That doesn't mean they want to see <bleep!> every other word, though. And as Forbin mentioned, kids can turn it off when a parent who would prefer it on wouldn't be looking. As the parent's probably the one paying the bill... well, do try to control yourself.
(Edit: And personally, if I see it in broadcast continually - not someone obviously venting or having a moment, but doing so long enough for me to finish a mission - I'll tend to avoid that person in the future. Fortunately, I don't think I've seen anyone that bad in years.) -

Quote:Well, then, you'll just have to disagree with someone else who actually uses his.To waste Build Up on a snipe is one of THE worst things a Blaster can do, unless that Blaster is interested in taking bloody ages to single-snipe entire spawns. The power simply does not hit hard enough to be worth its animation time, much less the risk of being interrupted. Really, unless you're talking a Devices Blaster, snipes have very little practical use that doesn't cause more harm than good. And that's from someone who actually uses his.
-
Quote:Except that, in the cases I'm using snipe, the range IS the reason why. Yes, I can close on that Sapper, DE mushroom, etc. and use other attacks - but by the time I get in range, I'm also in range of THEM and being shut down.Originally Posted by LuminaraSnipes vary from 3.67s to 4.67s. Your blaster's tier 1 attack is 1s, tier 2 is 1.67s... you can attack three or four times with just those two powers in the same time it takes for the snipe to animate, pass the Interrupt period and actually fire, and you typically deal equivalent or higher damage than you would with the snipe. Take Assault Rifle, for example. Burst has a 1s animation, Slug has a 1.67s animation, Sniper Rifle has a 3.67s animation. You can use Burst twice and Slug once in the same amount of time it takes to use Sniper Rifle once... and the combined base damage of Burst x2 plus Slug is 237.8, whereas the base damage of Sniper Rifle is only 172.7.
It's like that across the board, with a few notable exceptions like Archery and Radiation Blast for corruptors and defenders. Nearly every set with a snipe deals more damage with the first two attacks than the snipe deals in the same animation time. For the time you spend using snipes, they're less effective than simply ignoring them entirely and sticking with your first two attacks. So not only are you putting yourself at greater risk via standing still for the duration of the Interrupt period and waiting to see if you fire it off or get plastered, you're reducing your damage output at the same time, which further enhances the risk simply by slowing down your kill speed.
Take the time to snipe and eliminate them from the outset? Far safer. And if I miss, I still have time to run "plan B," whatever that may be for that character if I miss. I know that doesn't show up on DPS/DPE/ZOMGWTFBBQ charts, but it does show up in my "Why to take this power" consideration. For instance, I take the snipe on most of my Blasters. I don't take it on Dominators because the controls I have available are more effective at shutting down either problem members or the entire spawn, and I typically have a pet to eat an alpha at 32. (And I certainly don't take it on Stalkers - the only time a power's activation comes into play for me, since Stalker snipes lock you into place for *eight seconds.*) -
Quote:Issue 4: Colosseum introduced Arenas. Zones came in with COV (BB, SC, WB) with RV introduced the following issue.CoH didn't have pvp from the get go. It was added in one of the issues and was actually pretty good iirc.
"The obvious" being which part? I mean, you've just basically said "Nobody's said why it's broken, other than it being broken" in essence - as "The obvious" is different for everyone.Quote:Originally Posted by QuinchWhat I find fascinating about these kinds of threads is that among all the shouting how PvP is broken and how things need to go back to way they were, I've yet to find a single argument as to why it's considered broken {other than the obvious, of course}.
Want two minor (in the overall scheme of PVP-brokenness) but obvious examples?
1. Taking an inspiration triggers suppression of travel as well as Recovery and Regeneration.
Seriously. Go to a PVP zone. Have your Combat Attributes monitor up, opened to the basic tab. Watch your Recovery and Regeneration rates as you take any inspiration.
2. Travel suppression completely nullifies Teleport.
Yep. If you're a teleporter in a PVP zone, you had better either like walking (which will get you killed) or have an alternate travel power. Taking an inspiration (see 1 above,) attacking or being attacked will completely shut down your travel power - including the temporary Teleport you can buy in SC. This affects all teleporters, specifically noticable if you're a Kheldian with Dwarf form (as you have no access to any OTHER form of travel power, and if you're in dwarf, you probably are wanting the higher resist and mez resistance - there's no mez protection any more in PVP after all) and any Warshade in Human form that doesn't have an alternate way of getting around.
These are the two most obvious/easy to spot ones. I'll let others get into DR, about how generally pointless it is to play as a control AT and expect controls to be effective and the like. -
Note I said I was doing that with a defender.
I was trying to stay out of the target's range - getting close was, er, a *bad* idea.
As far as AS? One word - placate.
-
Quote:Well, again (dealing with the second point first,) you can slot interrupt reductions at *least* in the snipes - frankenslotting means you won't really lose much else by doing so.AS and Snipes both seem specifically designed to be used outside of combat.
For what it is worth, they are both quite fun, but I guess my question is from a point of teaming and solo, how much time do you spend out of combat. It seems that a significant percentage of your game time is spent where these powers sit "un-used" on your bar.
I am advocating (I guess), that if you remove the interrupt, that they become more versatile and able to be employed more frequently, without also becoming more powerful, simply because the animations are quite long (in most cases).
As far as using them in combat? Yeah, I do, actually. Either as an opener, a heavier hit on something I don't want to get in melee with that's beating on a teammate, or - in once instance on a lower level Defender (Emp/Psy,) teleporting out of range, back and forth while fighting Nocturne - got several off. (Not well enhanced at the time.) And yes, I do still hoversnipe on occasion. -
And AS is high damage while in hide (thanks to assassination.) Snipes, the other typically long-recharge interruptable powers, are ways to get rid of a mob in perfect safety. Might take a little while, but very easily doable. The interrupt period is part of a counter to that.
Besides, there are enhancements to reduce the interrupt time of most interruptable powers. -
Depends. Do you want INF or do you have something that could use that? Think you'll get the rest of the set soon?
I tend to sell, but I don't worry overmuch about IOing out/purpling out characters. -
Just went into Vanguard from Atlas, worked fine for me.

Quote:OK, full stop right there.FWIW, I could count on one finger the number of RPers I have seen.
Other than playing with only the exact same group of people, knowing that only one is interested in RP, TPing to missions, etc. you can't honestly say that.
Even with PVP being able to get a feel for numbers, you can't say "you haven't seen a PVPer because the zones/arena are empty." There's no flag that puts people up as "PVPer" or "RPer." Or even "Badger" - I have a few decent badge collections I've gotten just over playing the game for a few years, but I don't actively pursue it.
You don't know that the person standing next to you in Wentworths isn't an RPer. It's not just catgirls (to go by one stereotype.) Heck, even all catgirls aren't RPers - two I made up, I made up with zero RP in mind, just because I felt the names were amusing.
You don't know that that tank that's concentrating enemies so nicely for your AOEs to wipe out is or isn't an RPer. Or a PVPer.
Hell, you look at me, I *am* an RPer. And a PVPer. Are you sure you haven't encountered one of my 200+ characters? I don't note "RPer" or "PVPer" in my bio, I don't ((talk in parenthesis,)) I just do my thing. Sometimes expressed through base creation (for instance, a Kheld-specific group using a very light blue and purple to show a presence of both branches,) sometimes through a character bio, sometimes, yes, through specific choice of PC colors - but you wouldn't know it's RP-based if you saw any of it. (Well, aside from the bio, of course.)
RPers don't (generally) run around saying "Hey! I'm RPing! I RP!" to everyone they meet - so, unlike PVP (which *has* to concentrate in areas people meet, and again only has some designated spots it can occur) you can't actually make assumptions about if someone's interested in RP or not just by seeing them. (To be fair, you can't say that with PVP, other than the arena, thanks to shivans, nukes and badges.)
Point being, saying you've "only seen" x many RPers... you've probably seen more than you realize.
There isn't a need to devote a dev to RP content. RPers adopt all content - they'll pick specific missions because they fit a character, they'll use an area of a city for an RP setting, they'll pick costume pieces and power colors - these don't have to be designed with RP in mind. Now, base items - yeah, that helps to have "socializing" in mind, yes, but that's not necessarily "RP," just people wanting to have a nice base. It's also the only area I can say needs more dev attention on *that* side of the argument. Just ask in the base building forum.Quote:I know no one has numbers and I don't doubt they exist. However, my point to the other poster was that PvP had a strong (emotionally if not in numbers) playerbase and they have established PvP content, listed above, that the devs could build upon. It could add a new dimension to this game - PvP mayhem or TFs, new bonuses to earn, and other suggestions put out before.
But RP?
I don't emote to complete TFs. I don't "walK" to travel between missions or while I am crafting IOs or shopping at the market. Buying emotes now too? If you like it, more power to you. But devoting a dev to it? I can't see any reason whatsoever.
PVP, on the other hand, needs dev *attention.* Not necessarily another dev, but we've got a large enough team now that the appropriate devs (or groups of devs) should give it another look.
