Because i love the game. And because the more money they make would help them stay in business for a good long while.

I will gladly give my money up for the smallest micro transactions and or upgrades to keep CoH around forever.
I wouldn't. And I wouldn't encourage anyone to do so.

Not saying I haven't done quite a bit, but I'm not a money pit, and if something (such as the Party Pack) comes along that doesn't seem worth it to me, I'm not just throwing money at it "because it's COH."

While they have a good bias on my part (I'm more likely to consider it positively,) it's not a 100% free pass into my wallet. (Full disclosure: I have everything buyable *except* the party pack and however many day it is jet pack, on both accounts.) If they started charging $1/emote, for instance, I highly doubt I'd pick them up. That's a level that would just get irritating.

In general, they do better than other games. Yes, read fast before it gets modded. Aion? $9.99 last I looked for *a* weapon skin, or pack of dye, or pretty much anything in the store - which can only be applied to a single character, and given you can upgrade (read: throw out the old) weapons/armor/etc, it's something to ignore until you're at max level and fully "tweaked." Now that makes sense for some things like server transfers or name changes, but it's too steep for a pack of dye. Or the various item-stores you see in other games - I don't like them, and won't send money their way. Their existence (and I mean when it's widespread in game - pages on pages of "Buy this! Look, a character! A single costume! An emote!") will generally turn me away from playing the game.

Right *now* I think COH has the right balance, for the most part. Anything you buy is generally rather extensive (several costumes, an emote or other power, etc.) and gets applied account wide. Most seem worthwhile to me.
  2. Only if it's only available at level 50, so you actually have to spend time playing WITH knockback and learn to use your powers properly. After which, well, you shouldn't need it.

Plus, the suggestion wouldn't affect the point where KB is actually problematic - *uncontrolled* KB, such as Illusion's Phantasm. (And why is it problematic? Because it's completely out of the *player's* control.)

Also, *completely* killing knockback? So if I have an Ice/Energy Dom, I turn this on and Ice Slick is now 100% useless. Yeah. I don't see that flying.

Yes, there are times it's actually *appropriate* to mention other games.

"COH - Paid Expansion in 2005 and 2011."
    "Game 1 - Paid exp. in years 1, 3, 6"
"Game 2 - 3 in year one after which everyone quit in disgust."

Kind of hard to do that without actually *naming* other games (for reasons such as "So other people can look for themselves and confirm the data.")

Some policies need *common sense* when applied, as opposed to "ZOMGOTHERGAMENAMEDELETEDELETEBURNWITHFIRE!" Then again, well, I seem to be getting modded a fair bit for the same things that got passed over, now that I've been criticizing the direction of the game and dev team more and more. *shrug* I have a feeling that my relationship here is going to be at the same <sarcasm>wonderful</sarcasm> level it was with Ex and Lighthouse.

The character select screen typically won't be captured. You CAN use the snipping tool - but otherwise, you'll need to manually paste it into an image application (like paint.)

Yes, you do. Even a single user machine has a username - which probably *is* "Owner." Head to control panel, users, you'll see it there.

    Eh.

I like grav - several doms and controllers with it (including a 50 grav/kin,) but it does have a few other drawbacks. Biggest issue tends to be the animation time, especially with Wormhole and Propel.

Still, having seen some gravs in the trials, I can't see them as being bad there. Singy definitely helps.

    Help with CLAWS

If you don't like Regen, look at Willpower.

And this would probably be better in the Archetypes forum, as well.

(Also, there are no claws tanks.)
  9. Screenshots have been working for me.

It's in the "Screenshots" folder under your install directory (c:\program files\cityofheroes, c:\program files\steam\... whatever the directory structure was\cityofheroes, etc._)

Utter BS. My SO-only/common IO characters are perfectly useful on teams. I have yet to have anyone so much as *notice* they're not IO'd out.

Also, if you *want* IO sets, you have multiple ways to get them. Incarnate abilities? Grind the same trials over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over *or* try to get the shards together and pay a ridiculous amount to convert to IXP and create the components.

I never understood that as I would not be able to level as I have without PuG, since my channel and VG friends seem to always be busy or gone.
You do realize you get XP whether you're teamed or solo, right? If the people I want to play with are on, I join them and get XP, drops and the like. If they're not, I pick a mission and get XP, drops and the like. I end up leveling both ways, unless I turn off XP for some reason in the menu.

And no, his friend does not "need to broaden his scope." He has a chosen way of playing that doesn't affect you. You need to broaden yours if you can't accept that.
  11. Propel. Yes, it needs some work on cast time. But still, bouncing a forklift off someone's head never gets old.

Wormhole, as well. Especially when used to launch someone across a map.

The Radiation snipe... aka photon torpedoes.

Shield Charge and Lightning Rod. Nice way to say hello.

    Carrion Creepers.

Thunderous Blast. Just for the synchronized twitch-fall-dead.

  13. We can have more stuff to keep us busy and more updates without a paid expansion. A paid expansion has to really have quite a bit more to be worth it - and given the work that goes into one, I wouldn't expect to see another for a few years (if ever, as I think they'd rather go "COH 2" than expand what would probably be a 10-11 year old game at that point.)
  14. The problem with skipping the cutscenes is this -

Guild Wars, Aion, etc? They're all pre-rendered. You can just stop the movie and go on. (Which would also make "Move it into a small window and move it to the side" work.)

COH? Those *are* the NPCs, "live." The models are going through a script, everything else is frozen - as you can tell if you have people spamming junk into it, or even managing to place themselves *into* the cutscene.
  15. I do believe some guides have been set up.

To go through yourself, go to the Incarnate Abilities tab under... I want to say powers, it'll show across the top. You can browse through what the various powers do by going to the "Equip" tab. Each category (Alpha, Lore, Judgement, etc.) has its own potential powers, and various tiers OF the powers - there'll be descriptions to the side.

Shards are used (to keep it basic) for the Alpha slot. Once you go to Ouroboros and go through mender Ramiel's arc, that will be unlocked and you can start earning shards. (You can also join a BAF or Lambda trial, the "Incarnate XP" goes for Alpha first, as I recall.)

Threads, Astral and Empyrian merits are used to build the components for the various powers - it's like a parallel invention system, but one that gives powers.

You've never heard of "bunker buster" munitions? A freeway would be nothing. And given the types of potential "super" threats in the COH world, I'm sure designing weapons with quite a bit of penetrating power is commonplace.

    Something like this:

would do some damage regardless... and that's not fictional.

People put procs in Confuse. It's not broken, it's a choice. Those procs - if they fire - turn aggro (once the confuse wears off, if anything's alive) back to the user.

People put procs in Flash Arrow. Again, not broken, but a choice, and one that causes aggro to a non-aggroing power.

Your *choice* to use a damaging DOT along with a sleep power is the same thing. And Mezmerise is not just "a sleep power." It is an attack. It causes damage on its own. That damage is what triggers the effect, not just the use of the power.

    There's a bit of a difference.

I'd say the person complaining is a bit off - because, unless the devs introduce a new "currency" for the last five slots (they'd never do THAT, now, would they... nah, they hate introducing new currencies....) people will still be working on them - and having a few more trials in rotation could keep them fresh.

Plus, of course, we don't have a finite supply of 50s. Even if everyone today filled out every slot - let's call it a server glitch, every 50 has every tier of every power available to slot and all the slots unlocked - there'll be more 50s.

On the other hand... the ITF gives a very generic currency (reward merits) that can be indirectly traded by turning them in for recipes and the like. Incarnate "rewards" are tied solely to the character earning them. Once I have my Omega Supreme Zomg Uberpower, what use do I have for the trials any more? I can't run it on a character that's strong on them to give a "weaker" character a boost. I can't put Threads on the market. So there's more reason to keep running an ITF, even for someone who's not an altaholic.

I do see their point, though. The devs chase after new shinies like a dog after a rubber ball, and I do expect to see attention on this fade. It's the big thing now. Remember when AE was the big thing? We'd only have a few slots, but it didn't matter because the devs would pick arcs and free up slots, etc, etc, etc? When's the last time that happened? And there's the statement from War Witch herself about essentially not wanting to deal with "old" stuff to add to or revamp (like Dark Astoria) and just keeping adding "new" - which leaves the game really fractured and leaves systems behind to rot.
  19. Go to Team - Find Member.
    Change the level to 41-50.

Find where most of them are - in the RWZ or in Pocket D. Those seem to be the two places leagues form. go there.

Also, find your server's global channels (check down in the server forum.) Trials will often be announced in the global channels listed for your server there.

    QoL Issues

Want to touch on one or two here:

    Here are mine:

    1. Reduce server-side lag.

Notable reliable examples include BAF escapees, canyon in ITF and mothership raids. This is particularly bad with people who have critical powers on medium to long recharge times. The UI says a power is ready to use far before the the server will allow it to be used. Sometimes powers take 2-15 extra seconds to activate after being pressed before they take effect making for very slow and annoying game play.
/signed. I'm really surprised they didn't address this before (or while) adding the current two trials. It's been an issue for years, since people did Hami and costume contests. Not sure what *needs* to be done, but it really, really needs attention.
    Quote:
    2. Need up to 3 powers to be auto-fire instead of the current 1.
Likely won't happen, as an anti-botting measure.

    Quote:
    4. Reduce annoyance of cutscenes.

After watching the same cutscene 50 or so times, they get really old. Also, being able to chat with friends or do any non-combat functions would be very nice. I'd suggest an option that lets the cutscene to be played in a tiny window while allowing complete use of the regular UI except for not being able to use any power or move. Even better would be to have TFs and Trial have an option for whether to play cutscenes that the leader can select when starting.
I *believe* we've been told part of the reason we can't is that these aren't pre-rendered cutscenes (such as in Guild Wars or Aion.) The models are there and running through a script. When (for instance) Breakneck jumps down and rushes whatsisface, the NPC model is actually doing that.

The solution for this would have to start with creating pre-rendered videos as opposed to the scripting they use now.

    Tiny bit of work...

As for my five, QOL specific:
    1. Lag, as mentioned above.
    2. Let me manually move contacts (like the architect studio manager) I'm not actually interested in to "inactive." Seriously. I've done the tutorial. Leave me alone.
    3. Recipes - keep "Memorized" closed unless I open it, thanks.
    4. Let me hide and reorganize salvage tabs. I have 280 characters or so. I'm reasonably sure at least 200 of them have no base salvage at this point.
    5. Labels/whiteboards in bases. The MOTD is nice. Labels and such would be more useful.

The Trick Arrow character, on the other hand needs a specific damage type that could conceivably not be in his selection of Primary/Secondary/Epic. The first two are not changeable after character creation and while the third one is changeable from a mechanics point of view changing the selection of Epic pool has a much stronger impact on character concept than simply selecting one of four available travel pools.

As for alternative options, the NR character has alternative options as well. He can slot run and jump speed IOs from various sets or purchase the GvE Jump Pack. In fact, his options are more prolific and reliable than those available ot the TA character.
Trick Arrow is not dependant on Oil Slick Arrow. Oil Slick Arrow's utility is not dependant on being lit on fire - its ability to be lit on fire for damage is only part of what it does (-dmg, knockdown.)

He's making a full mountain range out of an anthill. If he finds Trick Arrow completely useless other than OSA, or has nothing in his secondary to do damage (his complaint, after all, being that he cant' use OSA for damage) then his problem is *far* greater than a temp power not being available.
