Oh and if that doesn't work out I've been meaning to say that I have space for another. If you can catcha ride from Karo's dad, I can give a ride to teh other person that I recall saying they needed one. I'll have to go back through the thread to see who that was.
All right, thanks, Red! Glad we got that cleared up. Anyway, I'll keep your offer in mind. I'll talk to Karo about this soon and we'll see how things will go.
  2. Personally, I submitted these two arcs....

    Rikti Accession:Best In-canon arc
    Blitzkrieg: Best Hero arc

I didn't submit Soldiers of Fortune because I don't think it's my best work. Anyway, I'm probably going to be beaten but at least this should get my arcs some recognition.
  3. Hey, Gren. I noticed I'm not on the list of people who were coming to the dinner even though I expressed interest earlier. I should definitely be able to come to the dinner, since my only issue is transportation (I think I may be able to get a ride from Karo's dad). I just thought it would be good to ask in case you missed my reply.

Anyway, definitely looking forward to seeing you all at the dinner! The last one looked like a lot of fun so I don't want to miss this one!
  4. Always good to have more reviewers! Mutually Assured Destruction sounds interesting, so I think I'll give that a try at some point. As for what arc I'd like you to review, I'd like your thoughts on my level 40-50 Neutral arc "The Rikti Accession." The arc ID is in my signature. It's not terribly tough, except for probably the enemy group in the last mission. As for spoilers, go on ahead and discuss them. I'd like to know what I can improve, after all.

I'll edit this post when I've played through Mutually Assured Destruction and will leave some feedback in-game.

EDIT: All right, I've played the arc now. I've left some feedback in-game, but I'll say some things here. The story is great! I loved some of the themes that were explored in the arc. I have to disagree with Dalghryn about her "overwriting," since I feel that it was nice and easy to understand. Most of the "big words" were used by Protector II, which seemed to be an amusing characteristic of his.

Speaking of Protector II, I have to agree that he's way tougher than he should be. Insane regeneration and a self-rez are not challenging, just tedious. The last boss (Without much spoilers) is a little annoying with Rage but is doable when it drops. The custom group that appears throughout missions 4 and 5 is a little buggy as well, spawning level 45 bosses throughout even though I'm playing at level 50 (With my difficulty settings having me equal to 2 villains at a +1 level). The allies are also 45s, although the hostage you need to rescue in mission 3 is properly 50.

I rated the arc 5 stars in-game because I didn't want to banish this to the realm of 4 stars (The Devs really need to do something about the whole "Everything below 5 stars is unlikely to ever be played" thing) at such an early age since the story is great, but I acknowledge that the gameplay could use a little more fine-tuning to be a lot more fun.

    Hope that helped!

Funny thing: I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the overall theme of the arc is very similar to the arc I submitted to you above, only we have different groups and motivations involved. Some things may seem sort of familiar when you run my arc, so hopefully you will enjoy it.
  5. I'm definitely interested in this, since I regret missing the dinner from last year. However, I'm pretty sure I'm going to need transportation if I do indeed come. If anyone has room in their car for me, I'd definitely like to come.
  6. This is an awesome idea! I have a few (Well, two) arcs that I plan on submitting to a few different categories but I'll get the ball rolling by bringing out my newest (And probably favorite) arc, the Rikti Accession. The ID is 278757. I already know what category (Or possibly categories) I want to submit it in but let's see what the others think.
  7. Looks like the announcement and the rules/conditions have been posted on the site today, but the Double XP announcement covered it up. Good thing I scrolled down! Here's the link to the announcement...

    http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/new...itect_awa.html

And to the rules and conditions...

    http://us.ncsoft.com/en/legal/archit...rds-terms.html

Quite a few things we need to provide on top of the arc ID and the category we want to submit to. Looks like we can submit more than one of our arcs, but only one arc per category. Good luck, everyone!

EDIT: Doesn't look like attending Hero-Con is a requirement. You'll probably just find out earlier whether you won or not. The results will still be posted on the site.
  8. I have to agree that Longbow and Arachnos are a bit more common villain-side than they should be, while the Legacy Chain and Wyvern need a lot more coverage (Especially Wyvern. They're basically Manticore's personal army! Why don't they go up to the level he appears in?). Villains could use more high level heroic threats than PPD and Longbow.

It's funny how there's one villain group that's so often forgotten that they haven't even been mentioned in this thread yet. Did everyone forget about the Minions of Igneous? They appear for a grand total of one door mission, one hunt mission, and one trial, since they are the main enemies of the Cavern of Transcendance. After the Cavern, they disappear entirely and are never spoken of again. Granted, the Spetznaz have it even worse, not having any outdoor spawns or their own "Know Your Enemy" page but people still tend to forget about the Igneous after (usually) getting the tar beaten out of them in the one mission they appear in. Ever since Manticore actually showed us the part of the story bible that involved their leader, I've thought it was a shame that the story potential with this group is untapped. I'd like to fight Igneous the Magma Master himself!

EDIT: Sam, Leif was referring to the SKULLS as small time necromancers, not the Banished Pantheon. The BP are, as you mentioned, a much greater threat that I believe deserve a longer "lifespan."
  9. I think you're looking for the other Architect forums, found here.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=583

Granted, you'll probably still get some flak but it's way more appropriate to ask there than to ask here, since this section focuses on the STORY aspects of the MA rather than the more technical aspects. I think they even have a few threads on the subject going already.
  10. I've been watching this thread for a while and considered submitting one of my own arcs. As Pro Payne approaches level 40, I believe it's time to submit my newest 40 to 50 arc: The Rikti Accession. It should be fairly easy for a person to complete solo, with only one AV that is completely optional. I hope you enjoy it!
  11. The current mayor (At least as of 2005, which seems to be the last time he was specifically referenced from what I've been able to tell) is Mayor Morales. Sadly, there's not a whole lot of information on him but he seems to be the generic "good" mayor who does whatever he can to help the populace and the hero population. I DID manage to find a speech by him waaaaaaay back from the end of the first Halloween event, though. I couldn't find it on the site itself but I was able to find it in the news section of the IGN page, which apparently directly quoted the CoH site.

    Dear citizens of Paragon City,

Evil has not prevailed. The light has returned and a new dawn breaks over a bloodied but unbowed city. The forces of destruction, unleashed by those who would see our world enslaved by eternal night, have met their match in the courageous deeds and sacrifices of the heroes who protect Paragon City. As mayor of this great city, I wish to extend the gratitude of its citizens to all the heroes who placed themselves in harm’s way to protect our way of life.

In their reckless and blind attempt to harness powers best left buried and forgotten, the enemies of liberty and freedom have only strengthened our resolve to combat evil in whatever form it appears—in our cherished city and beyond. Though the light has returned and the nightmare shattered, we must not rest on our laurels. Our enemies have been defeated, true, but they have not been eliminated. They will reorganize. They will seek unholy alliances. They will bide their time and watch for our guard to fall. This will not happen. This city and its stalwart heroes will remain a constant bulwark against the fall of eternal darkness.

Maybe you can get an idea of his personality from that.
  12. I just listened to the review and I have to say...wow. 5-stars across the board! I'm honored that you all think so highly of it and I was especially happy that you all believe that it is worthy of Dev's Choice! In response to a few things brought up, the intent was indeed to make the arc as close to Dev content in terms of presentation as possible. Glad you all thought I pulled that off! I was also quite amused by the nickname for the individual you fight in mission 5. Interesting that you all took the "good" path, as well, since the "evil" path does have some practical merit (Even if it's quite morally questionable and something I, personally, would not do). So far, only two people who have played the arc that I asked have chosen the "bad" ending (Although one was just to see that ending, the other was going with what his character would decide after weighing the options, which I was happy to see). I was particularly surprised that the person with the evil stalker type took the "good" ending.

Also, you were definitely right about how much work I put into it. I worked on it off and on for about a month and a half (Possibly even two months) tweaking the dialogue, adjusting the enemies, dealing with writer's block, adding new things, and testing it all. I do this with all my arcs because I feel that if I'm going to take the time to make an arc, I'm going to make sure I put a lot of effort into it. That's not even counting how much time I spent thinking about it before opening the MA window.

As for the enemy diversity, space was indeed the issue. I was going to add a third minion to the group if I had space. Unfortunately, I'm at 99.86% or so in terms of space so I had to abandon that. That's the cost of having a lot of text in your arc, I suppose.

Finally, Mentalshock did indeed play my arc and loved it just as much as you thought he would. I'm certain you referred him to it and for that, I definitely thank you.

Anyway, thank you once again for playing my arc and I'm glad you all liked it that much!

Hm, the date it says in your message is....well, tomorrow (September 3). That's why I was a little concerned about it not appearing on the list. I'd be willing to wait another week if you don't have room for it this time around, though.

EDIT: At least this means you can disregard the second submission.
  14. Shame that the database got wiped and, apparently, my arc's submission along with it. I've already resubmitted my arc, anyway, and I know Abrahms has, at the very least, run my arc already. By the way, I got a few ratings around the time I got your feedback, Abrahms, so do you think you could PM me the rating you gave it or should I wait for the actual show?

The grey color (Along with the warping pants) is probably a problem with the screenshot that was taken but I think you get the idea.

Anyway, I also definitely appreciate the changes that were done to the TF to make it fit in canonically (And the changes to the SF to make the players look better as well). The AVs that help out Reichsman have much better dialogue and reasons for being there. Nemmy's is particularly great because it's implied that he's there simply to make fun of Reichsman and his plan. Now that is something Nemesis would do, as shown in the Viridian arc.
  16. Well, thank you for running my arc. While I disagree with a few of your criticisms, you still made a number of points worth addressing, which I will now do to the best of my ability.

    Quote:
Hmm. Wait a second. Meta-humans? The Rikti should have guys like that, they just cut off the Magic power source to amp the progress of Science. Mutant should still be sticking around.
If the Rikti did have them, I imagine we would have seen them by now. After all, they threw just about everything else at us during the War. Why not their own meta-Rikti? My assumption is that generations of being exposed to the mutagen eventually made most Rikti biologically similar (After all, males and female Rikti look identical), with metas disappearing as a result.

The only Rikti that we've seen with what would be considered super powers besides the Magi would be Dra'Gon, who was a human converted during the War who probably retained his powers similar to Pyriss in the Devouring Earth. Guardians and Priests are also pretty close but it seems that their powers likely have technological roots.

    ---

    Quote:
...and the Rikti are humans. It doesn't make much sense to say "a mix of Rikti and humans", CK. But okay, let's go grab a nerd for ya.
I suppose that could have been worded better, but I was already extremely short on space. The idea is that the meta-Rikti share physical characteristics of both humans and Rikti. The two species may be biologically similar but they look quite different.

    Quote:
Well, this is interesting. The base defenses and Vanguard patrols manage to accomplish the mission by the time I load in and get my guys summoned up.

Not really complaining, but that's a risk you take with these types of maps. This one especially.
Yeah, this map seems to be the one that causes the most trouble for people. I'm considering replacing it with the other Vanguard base map, which tends to spawn the objectives further away from the defenses. The fact that every single Vanguard in that map yells something that you can't control discourages me from using it, though. I really don't want to take this one indoors, since we don't have any map that would work for a convincing Vanguard interior.

    Quote:
I roam around anyway, trying to get a feel for the enemy group. All the bios start out with the same information CK already told me. It's only at the end they actually get a bit different. Maybe just make that their whole thing?
I was considering that but decided against it because it didn't flow right in my mind. I guess I'm a little crazy like that.

    ---

    Quote:
Wow, a couple of bosses in the first room. Another heretic from the first mission and a recolored (?) magus.
Yes, he's recolored. I actually recolored all the regular Rikti on the map so that most of them had similar colors to the meta-Rikti.

    Quote:
...so wait. There was actually a "meta-Rikti" before the Rikti even came over here. But CK said they were made by fusing metahuman DNA.
Yes, that's how the Restructurists created their versions of the meta-Rikti. Tk'Lankah, however, was created using a different method that the Restructurists can only attempt to duplicate the end results of by using meta-human DNA. After all, she was intended to be created for something entirely different. It's because of this difference that she is spared from Rhodes' ritual should you allow him to go through with it.

    ---

    Quote:
Rhodes should probably make to bolt a little earlier than 25% health. He barely had the chance to get up from a little knockdown my mercs threw at him before he passed out. Either that or give him a defense set in addition to MA or AR.
The thing is that I didn't actually want Rhodes to be that tough, since I wanted the player to have complete control whether he runs or is defeated. Making him much tougher or running much sooner would possibly make people unable to catch him. It's not much of a decision if the choice is made for you, after all.

    ---

    Quote:
Storyline - ***. Mission 3 pretty much sums up my biggest objections to the meta-Rikti. Or really the first room of same. I wrecked the meta-boss just fine but the Rikti Magus wrecked me. And then there was the reveal at the end that contradicted what CK had to say about the metas. It's like... the Restructs were trying to make some kind of superior troop, but the Rikti are already top-tier and I didn't feel the customs were any more threatening, and H-Dotz was risking sending his own troops insane in the process. Also CK's all up about a ritual to destroy the meta's mental network and everyone connected to it, but isn't that most of the Rikti on both sides?
Regarding the power of the metas, the bio of the Gammakineticists and the dialogue from the Restructurist scientist in mission 2 hint that this is merely the first stage of the meta-Rikti project. They may not be more powerful than the Magi now, but they will eventually grow stronger. Gameplay wise, I wanted to keep the arc accessible to people of varying skill sets. I used to have the Amplifiers (Sonic users) as minions, for instance, but all the stacking -res isn't very fun.

As for the Hro making his troops insane, he probably was unaware of that particular facet going into the project. If he knows about it now, he probably is egotistical enough to think he can find a way to prevent it from happening.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say regarding the ritual. Only the newly-created meta-Rikti are in the meta-Rikti mental network, so only they'd be affected. The meta-Rikti are, however, connected to the regular Rikti mental network as well but that network is unaffected by the ritual.

    Quote:
Design - ***. I don't know if it was the lighting in their missions, but most of the metas just looked like black, vaguely man-shaped blobs with glowing eyes. They need more contrast and more bright colors. Also mission 2 needs to be on a different map or something so it doesn't complete itself in a few minutes.
There's not much I can do about the lighting in the missions, but I suppose I can slightly brighten the colors of the meta-Rikti. I personally never had much trouble discerning which colors the meta-Rikti had but a little more brightness wouldn't hurt.

I will look at mission 2. It's been ruining a number of playthroughs now with that map.

    Quote:
Detail - ****. Generally good stuff, though that whole affair with the box feels a bit kludgy. I mean, it's not like CK will say anything different if she knows he's asked me to spare him. Wouldn't he beg for his life on the same grounds within the mission anyway?
I'll admit the box is a little contrived. However, I think that C'Kelkah actually would say something different if she knew you were offered such a thing. For one thing, if you let him go, she'd know that you obviously went along with his plan and I imagine your career in Vanguard would be over right then and there for possibly destablizing relationships with the Traditionalists.

You do have a good point about him possibly begging for you to spare him instead of offering to let you in on the plan. However, I wanted to present his point of view a bit more clearly and let the player know of the decision ahead of time and this was the best way I could think of.

    Quote:
Overall - ***. The somewhat confused story brings this one down. There are about three separate contradictory explanations for what the metas are, how they're created, and how their mental comm-net affects the Rikti.
I don't personally think there's anything particularly contradictory about the metas... Let's see:

The first meta-Rikti is Tk'Lankah, who was created on accident by her unnamed father. He was attempting to create a Rikti that skips the human stage of development and is born a Rikti but ended up with her instead. The Restructurists used her DNA template to create their own meta-Rikti, presumably using meta-human DNA to substitute whatever they couldn't duplicate from her template (This part was never said in the arc but I'm not sure where I could add it. It sounds like I should, though, to clear this up).

Finally, the meta-Rikti are a part of two mental networks: The overall Rikti one and their own smaller one. Their involvement in the former is what makes C'Kelkah afraid their insanity will corrupt the rest of the Rikti while the latter is what allows Rhodes to target them all at once.

I hope that cleared some things up.

Thank you for playing this arc. Your run is the first real negative review I've gotten for it so I apologize if I seemed overly defensive or anything like that. I guess it's a little unrealistic to expect everyone to like the arc. Still, you brought up a number of good points and although I can't fix everything that you mention, I can still improve the arc from it regardless. Maybe you can take a second look in the future when you have the time.
  17. I've just submitted my newest arc, The Rikti Accession, to CoHMR and it should be up shortly. My other two arcs were among the first ones submitted to that site, but I'm particularly looking for feedback on this arc (Although you're certainly welcome to try the other two out if you like this one). Since you said you like reading everything, I'm certain that this arc will definitely appeal to you. Its information is in my signature.

  18. I kinda figured as much. It seems that Explorer entails story and since I'm something of a CoH/V lore hound, I'd say that would suit me. I tend not to play when my friends aren't on, either, so the high Socializer score is appropriate as well. However, I tend to have smaller close-knit groups rather than the huge amounts of friends that the Socializer seems to have.

Apparently, a lot of people here are Explorers... I wonder if that's because we all happen to share the same interests in MMOs or if it's a flaw in the test...

All right, then! I have submitted my most recent arc and I'm looking forward to hearing what you all have to say about it!
  20. This sounds awesome! I think I might submit one of my arcs to this but first, there's something I need to know. Is there any particular type of arc you guys prefer or are you open for any type of arc as long as it's good? My arcs are all fairly long, serious, story-based arcs with a lot of text to read, so I'm not sure if that's particularly well-suited for your show.

Regardless of the answer, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this goes! It's a great idea!
  21. Thank you very much for taking a look at my arc! Sorry it took so long for me to respond but I just got back home from a trip. I've fixed the typos you've pointed out and I'll address some of the more major points you made here:

Most people probably know her as a dignitary because she is often used for that purpose when she shows up in the game, perhaps due to her open-minded nature. However, when you meet her in the Division: Line arc (Which is where, canonically, you're supposed to meet her first), she states that her current role is one of six Traditionalist leaders. Presumably, she still has that role even as she later gets her diplomatic roles.

    Quote:
The heretic looks far more human than Rikti. Perhaps try the Alien helmet for the head? Unless it's intentional that "evolved" does go in a human direction. Bit cliche if it does though. Nice touch with the Rikti melee weapons.
I just tried looking at the Alien helmet and, unfortunately, found the options available for it were way too limited for what I wanted. I'd have something pretty close to the right head shape but the facial features wouldn't look remotely Rikti-like. Anyway, the meta-Rikti aren't really "evolved," just mutated. They only THINK they're the next step in Rikti evolution (If anything, they're a step back considering what the Rikti really are). That's the insanity you've been told about throughout the arc at work there.

    Quote:
Mission 5: I really like the multiple outcomes. I chose the "Fail" option. Not what I believe in, personally, but my superhero's power is gullibility, which affects him also, and the last suggestion he got was Rhodes' clue...
I'm glad you liked this aspect. It's something I had in my head ever since I started the arc and it's great that you think I pulled it off.

    Quote:
That was a short review. I'd like to hear when you've edited, as I'd like to give this a proper go. I don't think I was fully aware of my options when deciding in the last mission, but that's most likely because I didn't play through continuously.
I hope that I clearly laid out a good number of the pros and cons of each choice in the last two missions, so it may be because of the time gaps that you might not have caught them. Otherwise, I will have to look at how I presented the options again.

Anyway, thank you once again for taking a look at my arc and for the great advice. It's pretty much in a mostly completed state right now, so once I get some extra feedback on it, I'll change it to "Final" status and give you a shout!
  22. [ QUOTE ]
The second reason was, in return give people a way to get their arc played with absolutely NO fear that I would post anything negative about it here. Even if I hated an arc, I would stick to the intent of the thread and post what I like best here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, I apologize. I didn't mean to sound overly negative. I didn't know you wanted exclusively positive stuff here. Anyway, if you would like my favorite point of the arc, I'd definitely say it would be the design of the custom enemies. I thought they were definitely a cut above the norm for custom critters. Thanks for playing my arc, anyway, and sorry for unintentionally breaking the rules...
  23. I think I'll give this a go. My newest arc, The Rikti Accession, could use some feedback. It's a 35-50 story and action focused Neutral arc (Although it's more like co-op, since it's a RWZ style arc) that focuses on the Rikti. Its ID is 278757 and the author is @Mekkanos.

    I hope you enjoy it!
  24. Hey there! I ran your arc just a little while ago and thought it was pretty good! There were some issues that dragged it down that I mentioned in-game but it was still decent.

Anyway, my newest arc, The Rikti Accession, could use some play-throughs and feedback. I'd definitely like to see what you have to say about it! Its ID is 278757 and the author is @Mekkanos!
