In a world overflowing with review threads, three players take a path less traveled...

Admittedly, this is a late entry to the review game. At this point, the Heavyweights have already been established, and are on their second and third threads. If someone wants to jump into the game now, they have to do something different, something to set them apart.

Aentertainment Tonight is a new snow on KJSR, a radio station that started right here in the City of Heroes. It is an on-air review show for AE arcs, where listeners get the opinions of not one, but three reviewers, DJ Rastafari-Man, DJ WRider, and myself. This gives listeners the chance to get multiple opinions, from a couple of different views. For those that are interested, the submission form can be found here. The show begins August 20th at 7PM Eastern, and will air weekly.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

Credit where it's due, that name was one of several suggestions by Rasta. Humorous note, it was when he tried to advertise on his solo show that we realized it may be difficult for many of our other DJs to try to pronounce. I just figured the 'A' would be silent.

Wonderful idea. Is there any way to access recordings of the show? Im on europe so listening live might be an issue.

You say therr are three of you doing this. Does that mean that solo arcs are not suitable?

Intriguingly, I thought it looked like it would be pronounced with a long 'A' and the 'E' would be silent.

I think the pronunciation is 'ay-ee-entertainment', said quickl. It sort of ends up like 'ay-ee-yent...' tbh, but its easy enough and no slower than 'AE Entertainment'

Currently, listeners can go to the Archive page here and download the most recent episode of any of our shows. However, the episodes are only kept up for one week, and then replaced, so if you have a review scheduled (and I will be posting here which reviews are up for each episode) you have to be quick. I am currently trying to figure out how to get my own site set up so I can have several episodes at once.

As far as solo arcs go, given our schedules it's likely that while we will review together, we will probably be running arcs separately. Whether we team or not will largely be dependent on what else is going on when we choose to run the arc, though author suggestions will certainly be taken into account.

This sounds awesome! I think I might submit one of my arcs to this but first, there's something I need to know. Is there any particular type of arc you guys prefer or are you open for any type of arc as long as it's good? My arcs are all fairly long, serious, story-based arcs with a lot of text to read, so I'm not sure if that's particularly well-suited for your show.

Regardless of the answer, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this goes! It's a great idea!

My arcs:

Title: Blitzkrieg
Arc ID: 3416

Title: Soldiers of Fortune
Arc ID: 4431

Title: The Rikti Accession
Arc ID: 278757

The only missions we won't review are the ones that are obvious farms.

All right, then! I have submitted my most recent arc and I'm looking forward to hearing what you all have to say about it!

I think it's obvious but just to clarify: you guys play through the arcs, taking notes or whatever, and then later, talk about them together for your show? It's not a 'live' playthrough?

Sounds like a fun show!

So, which one of you has to has to wear the tight, short dresses to show off the gams?

Craft your inventions in AE!!

Play "Crafter's Cafe" - Arc #487283. A 1 mission, NON-COMBAT AE arc with workable invention tables!

I'm just going to leave that as 'no comment'...

At any rate, the first show is ready to air. It's kind of a rough episode, and certainly much shorter than expected, but were we to go longer, we would start going into spoilers and excessive detail.

The first episode covers the following arcs:

8772 Between Light and Shadows
28016 Intelligence Artificial
59821 Villains just want to have fun

Missed it live, but would like to listen, and the archive link isn't working. It's just giving me a 2 hrs of crap music and some stand-up comedy clips.

Crap music? Come On Eilieen! Its a classic!

Lol I also dled the archived 'AEntertainment Tonight' mp3, and it does appear to be 2 hrs of music interpsersed with comedy clips.

Random thoughts: I like the third song, but is there also something from the ET soundtrack? Ooh - Opera! ...Yikes, it's Phil Collins! /shudder...ahhh...ska. /nodnod...er, that's europop there at 01:33:33 isnt it?

...aand Love in an Elevator! lol

"Can you feel the bass?"

Aled Jones, and fin.

Wow. Not only is that not my show, I don't even own any of that music. My show was Metallica and Black Sabbath and music of that nature. Will definitely look into this.

Meanwhile, episode two is now in the can and ready for Thursday. This week we have:

84420 Death to Disco!
3369 Matchstick Women
60573 Birth of a Villain Group
(Incorrect ID) The Audition

EDIT: The selection you are hearing when you download "last week's" show was actually July 30. Apparently the archive missed last week's show altogether, but the problem HAS been fixed, and future episodes will be available through the Archive as it's supposed to.

Yeah, the Archive missed the show, so the pilot episode is lost. However, it has been changed so future episodes won't suffer the same fate.

Aah, that's what you meant, gotcha. Who was up in the first ep anyway? And looking forward to hearing thoughts on my arc.

The first episode covered the following arcs:

8772 Between Light and Shadows
28016 Intelligence Artificial
59821 Villains just want to have fun

These were all Protector folks who had actually submitted those arcs for a different review show, that ended before I got around to them.

EDIT: I personally rated the first two arcs four stars, and the third three stars. It was a decent arc, but I had some issues with the final mission.

As a follow up to Abrahms' post...

For those interested, I was only able to get through 2 of the arcs due to personal issues in RL. I rated 4 stars to both Intelligence Artificial and Villains Just Want to Have Fun. I did not rate Between Light and Shadows as I did not run that particular arc.
