  1. Um, if you're a Mind dom, don't you already have a hypnospiral every time you activate Dominate (one of your primary powers)? That's often enough for my controller; do you just want it All The Time?

    Change Origin?

I rerolled one of my first characters in his 20s (far enough back, both in terms of the state of the game and my skill in playing it, that it was not a trivial thing) once I got to SOs and decided that what I was buying and slotting just didn't fit my concept of him. He's a Natural, mostly, and that's how I have him now; but he's a sentai hero, and his transformation trinket (or "morphing watch", if you prefer) that unlocks and focuses his inner spirit is somewhere between Tech and Magic.

I've got another character whose powers are all from her Science accident... except Recall Friend, which is a convenient device she picked up along the way. Just a quirk.

(Don't even get me started on the "five artificial hearts and three cyber-hips" issue. At some point, you have to abstract or separate game mechanics from concept, or go insane.)
  3. Would you be referring to the current series' Super Sentai Rainbow Daleks?
  4. Daaaaang.
    That's great work.
(of course, now you have a Tiny Fake Nemesis recording your every move...)

That's... a really good idea, actually. Devs, please make it so.
  6. It was faster before, but changed because people asked for it to be. Apparently, the spawn timer in TV has only two settings: Too Fast and Too Slow.

Seriously, back when the change was made, I think a dev actually said it had to be one or the other, because of how it was coded. My memory might be wrong, and I would like to think the programmers (past and present) are more competent than that, but...
  7. Much, MUCH better than what we saw in the first pictures. They're still a little too busy, IMO, especially for the minions; but the addition of long "coat" pieces mostly makes up for the (probably technically required) loss of the robes. And I'm glad to hear (and see) you retained the faceless look and eye auras.

I was quite unhappy about this change and the promised "tweaks", but now I am cautiously optimistic.

If you put all of your focus on "leveling up" then you will miss 90% of what makes this game special. There are only so many opportunities to have a "sovereign experience", meaning a first time to experience something in the game.

Treasure them. Take your time. Talk to your contacts. Read the mission text. Don't jump into 8-man groups clearing the sewers and power-leveling to level 50. There's nothing there waiting for you. Well, nowadays, there are incarnates, but even that won't actually mean anything except a whole lot of grinding if you have ignored the entire game in order to get there.

Do your missions. Follow the story arcs. Do your task forces at your level range when you are the right level to do them. The story of Paragon City is YOUR story - the story of your progress from new hero to Hero of the City. Make the most of it and learn the stories of the city. Later, you can make alts and do farming, or bank missions, or whatever. On your first character or two, savor the experience of earning your first cape; completing your first task force; defeating your first arch-villain.

You only get one chance to have a first experience. Make the most of it.
    This. What he said.

I think you mean "the Venom symbiote", or just "the symbiote"... but yeah. I remember that. Squiiick.

Since they were done differently, they tend to not look good together, and they tend to end up with markedly different color palette ranges.
[snipped: I know it's not likely to happen, but reconciling this/giving us options would make a lot of people happy.]

Like me. I actually do like the very shiny "Tech Sleek", but I've had no luck finding a helmet option that's equally shiny (and a lot of trouble with even similar/complementary).

I saw this movie. It was called "Fortress", and it managed to be terrible (and not really the entertaining kind of terrible, either) despite the presence of Jeffrey Combs, Kurtwood Smith, and Christopher Lambert in the lead role.
  12. As someone who also levels with SOs: just selling all of your drops (salvage, recipes, and enhancements of other Origins or powersets) will make you more than enough inf to buy a full set of SOs every five levels. MUCH more.

I remember when 5 million inf was considered a lot...
  13. "without a travel power": Don't they hand those out at level 5 in boxes of caramel popcorn these days?

    Player of a first-wave Taxibot,
  14. Dear Cold_X:

Prestige stopped mattering several issues ago. I'm sorry that you and/or your SG(s) haven't gotten the memo. It's completely meaningless now (no, really, it is), even/especially as some kind of high score or measure of contribution.

You want to be known for your contributions to the group and the game? Then ignore that silly, arbitrary, easily gameable number and go do worthy things. Organize (or assist with) events, for your SG and the public. Run missions, task forces, etc with your SG-mates. Help some newbies - give them the benefit of your experience, and show them there's more to this game than AE and the sewers. Be a voice of reason on your SG's forums and, if you're so inclined, this one.

Prestige means nothing in 2011. It doesn't even mean what the name itself does. Actions, not numbers.

No, you're called "new jan" or "fake jan" (hello, Geri Reischl), or "brunette jan" or "male jan" or "jan x" (first initial of last name) etc etc, all of which are different names for purposes of CoH.
  16. That's your Loser Sense tingling.

And they pronounce the letter as "zed" too, instead of a proper "zee." Barbarians.

  21. New idea:
Add the option to convert 1 million prestige to a green star your character can display on his or her abdomen.
  22. Probably pick up the bits of the Tech/Cyborg pack that I wanted - costume bits, mostly, not the self-destruct and such. I have most of the other origin packs, but not that one, despite it coming out first.
  23. A concept I've seen is that arresting is also done via a teleport network - you knock 'em down/out, then attach an arrest tag (much like modern Trek's transporter tags, as seen in Insurrection et al) and they're beamed away to the Zig for processing and, if necessary, medical attention (for those who do their "arresting" with guns and blades). Devouring Earth aren't supposed to wind up in the same holding cells as Hellions and Skulls, but mistakes happen.
  24. "You want me to stick my head in something built by Dr. Aeon and Crey and give them full read/write access to my brain. ... Either you're far too stupid to be allowed out in public, or you must think I am."

Yeah, AE's official backstory is epic fail, as far as something that any of our characters with half a clue would actually use.

EDIT for Evanescah, below: Yes, exactly. Same here.
  25. Most of my SG experiences have been fine, especially since I tend to play with the same group of people, and we just make sub-SGs for our themed alts. I habitually run in SG mode, now that it costs me nothing (remember when you had to choose between that and full rewards?). But I have to agree that the days of prestige meaning anything are long, long past.

What's prestige good for? Building bases. What are bases good for these days? Absolutely nothing. (Huh! Say it again!) Expanded options for transportation (Ouroborous, more flexible trains/ferries) and storage (global mailing your stuff to alts) have reduced their PvE value, and we won't even talk about PvP. This does not seem likely to change at any point in the foreseeable future.

We have people making so much inf that they're "burning" it, in vast amounts, by converting it to prestige at the extortionate exchange rate. The top prestige list is a joke because of this and other factors; my apologies to anyone who ever took their ranking seriously.
