I relocated to Freedom from Infinity. Mainly because pretty much all my ingame friends have their characters there. There's really no sense in having a level 50 on a server that you don't use. So I sent my favorite Infinity heroes to Freedom. Infinity was my home server once, but I've been playing Freedom mostly the last year or so. So the move came naturally once transfers became free.
A fun side effect of the transfer was that it allowed me to rename a few characters for free, too. If you transfer to a server where the name is taken, you need to rename. Do that and transfer back. New name, no charge. Of course, it only works when transfers are free. -
Ooh, can you find the forums just when ED hit? That'd be a laugh to see now. The only really major flamewar we've had. What year was that again... Halloween 2007?

I just got out a ruler, to be sure, and put it next to me on my desk, just to get a good idea of how big 10cms actually is.....
O.O

I like spiders. More spiders mean less insects around here. In the summer, I never clean off the spider webs if I can get away with it. Spiders are on my list of summer allies, along with songbirds, frogs, and other things that prey on insects. Things that prey on the above are enemies, though. Stupid hawks, storks, and cats. -
Looks like I'm waiting, then. I'd have thrown down $40 for a Complete right here to avoid the inevitable store-server rush on the July release date. Busy servers and credit card information is a bad mix. Pistols are fun, but I'm a long time vet and I have the loyalty badge. I'll get my fill of the powersets in beta. I'd rather have a free month. That and I have enough active characters as is, for the time I play.
I would like if the Complete Edition was put up for pre-purchase a week or two before release in July. As I said, busy servers and credit card information is a bad mix.
In short: I'll buy the digital US Complete Going Rogue when you're willing to sell it to me. Not the lite edition, no matter what powersets I get to try early. -
Do not taunt Happy Fun Drone.
Did you know that once a Police Drone aggros on something, it will hunt it down and destroy it? I was messing around with TP Foe in Skyway, when I teleported a Troll up in the air behind the drone. It noticed, but didn't get a shot off before the line of fire was broken. So it jumped off the edge and proceeded to zap every Troll in range down there. Then it cheerfully jumped back up to its normal position.
That made me go "WTF?", in a good way. -
Quote:I think I've met this bug before, actually. Because I messed up a language selection script on a website once. If that happens, it'll always redirect to the default language, which in this case was IP dependent. Thanks!
I'm curious as to how this happened though? Were you busy selecting me as a beta participant and accidentally broke the website or?...
Now, I can just click good ol' Stars and Stripes in the top menu and go to the US site. It's one more click than before, but that's not a big deal.
EDIT: A "remember my language preference" checkbox would be nice, though. Cookie me! -
Yeah, seriously, if I wanted the EU website, I'd type the correct address manually. I mean, I get that funneling new people towards the local version of the site seems logical, but to us EU players who've chosen the US client, it's a real annoyance.
Couldn't you set up a cookie or something? Let us choose which page we want to see per default, and then funnel the cookie-less users towards their local sites? It'd solve both issues: The new players would get shown their local site, and the old players will be happy to continue on as usual. -
So I was buying a lot of things on the market a few days ago, when it hit me that the market window could use a few improvements to speed up the bidding process, and especially the time spent in repeated searches.
1. Allow us to "pin" items
What I mean is that if you're looking for salvage for a recipe requiring three or more different types, it would be really handy to be able to tag these so they'd stay at the top of the list, no matter what else you were to search for. I know this is possible, because the last item you highlighted doesn't get purged when you do a search. A small button on each item to lock it would be great.
2. Allow us to search salvage by recipe
Drag a recipe to the search bar and it will search out all the salvage needed to craft that IO and fill in the numbers. So if a recipe needed one of two kinds of salvage and two of a third kind, it'd fill in that you want one of each of the first two, and two of the third. All you'd need to do then is fill in the price you want to pay for each item. I saw something similar in The Sims 3, where you can shop for groceries by recipe, and since trying that, I've found CoH's shop interface a bit clumsy.
3. Show us an extended sale price list
The last 5 prices just aren't that terribly useful. Having the last 20 if asked for, would be nice. Also, an average price for the last 24 hours would be great, but that might destroy some of the fun of the market meta-game, and that would be bad, since the market meta-game can be fun, if you know how to play it.
That's just a few ideas that popped into my head. It shouldn't change much for the marketeers, but for us casual shoppers, it'd speed up the shopping, or at least the bidding and searching downtime. -
Okay Devs, there's pranking and there's this: NASA: Object makes close pass by Earth Wednesday
Sure, it's "just an asteroid", but you might be overdoing it just a little now. -

This thread is turning out a lot better than I thought it would, I want to chip in, too.
Quote:This is kind of fun. In a slightly creepy way.Hi!
If you're reading this, it probably means two things:
1. We won.
2. We died.
Which, all things considered, could be worse. We're going to the Rikti Homeworld, and I doubt any of us will make it out alive. I'm sure a lot of the other Omegas are writing why they're doing this, but I figure I'll add my reason. Maybe it will serve as an example for future heroes.
The Rikti took everything from me. Home, family, friends. Everything, everyone, and I know this isn't a unique story in this terrible war. I can never bring those lost back, but... I can do something to prevent this story from repeating again. I know, because Hero 1 told me so. He asked for my help by name, I can't help but be flattered. THE Hero 1 wanting my help? I was lost for words. Not to go into too much detail, but apparently he needed a barrier mage for something big, and know that I know what I'm supposed to do here, he wasn't kidding. Actually, he's never kidding. I hope... No, I know I'm up to the task.
This is a one-way trip we're about to go on. I'm okay with that. I've always held myself to the creed of "Protecting those who cannot protect themselves." It's time to put this to the test. I know I can make a difference, even in the company of some of the mightiest heroes in the world, I can make a difference. We will seal those portals, even if it means locking ourselves away from Earth forever, or worse, and we will protect the Earth from this menace.
With this last act of defiance, we will stop the Rikti. We have to. It won't be easy, but it never is. With this act, we give our lives, so you can have yours. Please don't waste it.
Stay safe.

Quote:True Neutral is both. It can either be a belief in balance, or it can simply be not aligning yourself with Good, Evil, Law, or Chaos. That's in D&D 3.5.That isn't actually neutral, though, not in D&D terms. Neutral in D&D, from how much I've played, has to do with the balance between good and evil, and is most characteristic of druids, from what I've seen. It's the belief that the world is governed by the balance of nature, and allowing either side to triumph would upset the natural order of things.
Now, of course, I could well be wrong, since the last time I actually dealt with these alignments was in Icewind Dale, and that was operating under the aD&D system.
In 4.0 there's an entirely new system that only has one axis. Lawful Good - Good - Unaligned - Evil - Chaotic Evil. I prefer the 3.5 one, even with all its flaws. -
Personally, I'm probably Lawful Good. More Good than Lawful, but definitely with a Lawful slant. I'm just not good at being evil, and I prefer it when people do what they're told, as long as it's good. And I always keep my promises. This does make me a bit naïve at times, but so be it. I'd rather be a little too trustworthy than not trustworthy enough.
This does reflect on my CoH characters, too. My heroes are usually Heroes with a capital H. They kick butt for Good and they like it. I suppose it's my own good tendencies shining through here. Some of them are pretty chaotic, though. The Scrappers in particular. Some are planners, some jump into battle with wild abandon.
My Villains are usually Lawful Evil. My favorite villain is a Stalker, she's an assassin for hire. If she says she'll get her mark, she will. Punctuality and thoroughness are extremely valuable to a professional assassin, after all. I don't really have that many villains, though. Made a demon, and a girl ruled entirely by her powerful psychic subconcious after an accident, I suppose she'd be my Chaotic Evil type. I just can't get into the CE mindset in any other way. It's too alien a way to think for me.
Also, I'm one of those people that if I could get superpowers for real, I'd be a superhero. The path of villainy has no appeal to me. -
Quote:Yeah, this. Halloween is my annual stay offline from CoH week(s). I hate the constant night. It's dark (duh) depressing and makes the costumes look all wrong with its constant Hollywood style blue night. Who's idea was it to give out costume salvage and keep the lighting blue at the same time, anyway?I'm not interested in raids, I got burned out fighting all those ToT bosses, and I got tired of the continuous darkness. So I've been playing Perfect World International for the past few days. Interesting game.
Now that the daytime light has returned, it's back to CoH!
I'd like the Halloween event a lot better with the day/night cycle restored to normal. Have things go nuts at night, but keep the day. -
Done and done. Well, except that Paragon Wiki didn't even show up 30 pages in when searching for "city of heroes". I added it as my preferred result. That and poofed a lot of RMT hits. That was fun. *poof* Leave it to Google to add a silly graphics on deleting a result.
Also, remember to link it as a once in a while. More links = more Google, I think. -
Quote:It's The Sims. In the first game typing rosebud in the cheat console gave you §1000. In the newer games you have motherlode which gives you §50,000.What is this rosebud thing and why does everyone but me know about it?
I'd second the /testingcheatsenabled true cheat. CoH debug mode go. If I get the same options as in Sims 2 with it, it'll be awesome. Shiftclick on Rechsman, Kill, death by flies or death by falling satellite. Fun.
Failing that, just "forget" to close the Architect debug window in normal missions. That's pretty much all you need to cheat, by design. -
Would you believe me when I say that MGS4 managed to tie up all the loose ends from the series? It made a few new ones, but everything odd about MGS2 was explained. (Hint: It's all nanomachines and AIs!) And Raiden was awesome, but you didn't get to play as him.
-
Quote:Just looked him up in the MGS Database. It doesn't say. He was a Green Beret before he joined FOXHOUND for MG1, if that's any help. In MG2 and MGS he's retired from the Army, and in MGS2 and 4 he's with an anti-Metal Gear NGO. He's a free agent, and the database won't say what rank he was before. Colonel Campbell stops being a Colonel around MGS, but Snake still refers to him by rank out of respect.Incidentally, what rank does Solid Snake hold? Does he have a rank at all?
It looks like Konami sidestepped the question altogether. -
I've tried PvP once in a while, and I can see the fun, but it's not for me. I'm a concept player. When I build a character, concept comes first. I then max out that concept, but I will not break it. So you can guess how most of my PvP experiences have been. Not as onesided as you might think, but really not that great either. I just can't keep up.
But I don't think PvP is evil or anything like that. I'd probably be PvP'ing myself if there was a better reason to than just fighting other players. That just gets old, like repeating any single content in the game can do. But if some objective based PvP option were added, where sheer killing speed didn't mean winning and all ATs could pitch in equally in their specialized roles, then I'd be there. The current zones? Nah, too much work for too little reward, and I'd have to break concept to make a viable PvP character. As an example, when a character is named "Scarlet Feather" with two red wings as a dominant costume feature, she flies. Which means she doesn't PvP. -
I'm already tired of the eternal night. Then again, it happens after a few days every year. Paragon City and the Rogue Isles just look better in sunshine than at night. It also messes with the costume coloring.
-
It did. It had its own server, its own client (naturally), its own forum (where ED was unveiled for the first time... good times), and generally was set up to be completely separate from Live and Test CoH. I expect GR to do the same.

Quote:I don't have a source or link for it, I just seem to remember something about that happening when the TF bug that allowed the Phalanx and Arachnos Elite to spawn as level 49 was in effect early this issue, but that might not count.I do not believe either of those have been soloed, although I'd be interested if you know of it.
Of course, I could be wrong. I'm not stupid enough to think I know everything about CoH, even if I've been here for a while now. -
Something impossible in City of Heroes that hasn't already been done? Hmm, can you guys think of anything?
Most if not all AVs have been soloed. I think both the STF and LRSF have been soloed, I know the ITF has. What about Reichsman? I can't remember seeing that, yet. It'll happen. Even Hamidon has been soloed once, granted that was with a severe bug and a Peacebringer, but it still counts as impossible.
Eh, if I want to see the impossible done, I'll call the Repeat Offenders. They know how to break the game good.
But hey, if the OP wants to play gimp Defenders, let him. He's not going to pull off the impossible with those. Class act in running away, too. Should we tell him that changing your Global name is permanent? And that anyone who's /gignored him will still see the new name? Nah, he'll learn it on his own. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully. -
Quote:Yes. His reputation is to be a master planner, so doing something random is the perfect distraction. Why did the Nemesis army hijack a truck full of dark chocolate, steal an amulet of smell changing from MAGI, and blow up a hot dog stand? There must be some greater plan behind this! Actually, no. He's simply doing it so his real plan of replacing a middle manager in a tech company with an automaton would go unnoticed. As truly awesome as that sounds, would Nemesis ever do anything random?
Well, I suppose he could also be making scented chocolates while eliminating his hot dog based competition. At least that's something he'd want the heroes to look into. -
