I don't buy purples so I'm getting filthy rich
6 raids x 53 merits per raid is 318 merits. Food for thought:

That's 15, nearly 16 reward rolls (20 merits per roll). On average, within every 10 rolls I get 2 of the following: LotG +7.5% recharge, Miracle +Recovery, Numina +Regen/+Rec. So with 15 rolls I actually have a fair chance at getting 3. Meanwhile, that leaves 12 rolls of decent recipes that can sell for 5-10 million a piece. Let's say you get 1 of each of the big 3 rares, so let's use your 175 million for LotG and round the other 2 to 100 million, and the other 12 recipes round off to 10 million a piece. 175 + 200 + 120 = 495 million per week from random rolls.

YMMV but that's my average. Personally, I do 2 raids each week so I'm getting in 5 rolls that average me 140 million a week.

True about Virtue, the only downside is you need to arrive AT LEAST 30 mins before they begin monster clearing to ensure you get there before the zone fills up. And, as with any Hami raid on any server, make sure you have a solid connection because it only takes one disconnect to screw you over. At least 5-10 are always waiting outside the zone waiting to pounce on that opportunity.
  3. When you use the /search function and see greyed out names on the list, does this always mean they're already on a team?
  4. Don't ponder too hard on the matter, many players have different reasons. Some don't care, some have edgy clicking fingers, some are plain and simply "noobs." It probably wasn't the first time it happened, nor will it be your last. When it happens to me, I just look for another team as I then realize the previous leader had questionable leadership qualities. *shrug* Just move on, no biggie.
  5. Seeing this guide almost makes me want to write a much improved guide of my own (as my second 50 is an Ice/Ice Dom)... ALMOST....

I'm just too lazy to do it
  6. Holy cow... all those damage buffs would completely eliminate the need for teams! Soloing anything up to and including GM's and AV's would become commonplace for any build. If the numbers were watered down some more I could see it working perhaps.

Having said that I can see your intrigue for going through tasks or trials to get permanent buffs. And personally I'd much rather have that as an alternative to IO set bonuses.
  7. A Stone Armor tank paired with a Kinetics defender or controller is pretty nice. The only thing the stoney really lacks is speed and the kin can just keep it speed boosted, not to mention all the other lovely buffs associated with kinetics. There's a zillion great pairs out there, though, but this is what sprung to my mind immediately.

Not sure exactly what damage types each power is associated with, but I'll assume SC is smashing and LR is energy. The mobs you experimented with may have differing resistances to each damage type.
  9. Thanks for the replies, although I should have been more specific with my question. I had IO's in mind when I started the thread, but I really should have asked why damage resistance is not enhanceable at all? From what I gather from the responses the devs risk overpowering certain builds with such enhancements, but surely they would have initially tweaked the numbers to compensate, like any other power and it's slottable enhancements. So, I'm guessing that coding got in the way, since other responses point to the direct relationship between damage and damage resistance. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  10. Something I've always wondered. There are IO sets for Defense buffs and debuffs, and sets for Damage Resistance buffing, but there aren'ts any Damage Resistance debuff sets. I personally don't care one way or the other if the devs were to implement sets for this or not, but I'd just like to know the reasoning behind leaving it out of the game?

Then there's the fact that some powers had different effects back during CoH beta and not all the text was updated when the powers changed. There are still some player and NPC quick power descriptions that refer to effects that the powers haven't had since before CoH went live. Minor descriptive errors, especially ones that aren't technically incorrect, just slightly misleading, are obviously even lower on the list of things to fix.

While it would be nice to make sure all power descriptions are correct and relevant, it would be a Herculean task to actually do so. Someone would have to through all the power descriptions and not only confirm that what it says is actually what it does, they'd also have to be familiar enough with the set/critter each power is associated with to also check that any references to the rest of each set in the text is relevant. Not the sort of editing job i'd want to wade through unless it paid rather well.
Not to mention updating the damage scale of all of the powers. I've seen "Minor" outdamage "Moderate" in many cases, even from powers in the same power set! Of course, I no longer pay attention to this since we have hard numbers to look at now.

Another strategy would be to focus on the KB aspects of both sets. Instead of taking Mud Puts, use Ice Slick and smack everyone around with your /Earth powers. With AA running it becomes a HUGE damage mitigator with the slows and -recharge. Plus it's very fun to watch.

Short answer: Any and all builds.

You're asking what build is uber godly in every situation, and as others have pointed out no such build exists or else the game would be severely broken and you'd see tons of players running around with the same exact cookie-cutter build, power-for-power and slot-for-slot. I'm not going to go through the list of what AT's are more useful in what situation because anyone that's played the game more than a month should know this.

When you get down to power set combinations, it depends on the player more than the build. It's up to the player to pick what powers suit their needs the best and slot them accordingly. If you're needs include being the #1 PvP'er, GM+AV+Rikti Pylon solo'er, team healer, ST and AoE damage dealer, etc. with just a single build then unfortunately for you this game doesn't offer it.

Some builds work a little better than others as others have pointed out, but they still excel only in certain situations, and only if the player knows what they're doing.

Well if you're looking specifically at either Virtue or Justice, then I'd offer Virtue because it's the most populated server along with Freedom, as well as also being the "unofficial RP server." I can't offer any details on Justice because I've been with Virtue from the start and haven't had the slightest urge to transfer from it. It's a great all around server, especially if you're into organized raids and TF's.

    EDIT: Sorry, SF's for villains...

No, no, just a year and some change is all

I'm not really understanding your "working to hide the fact" comment, unless you're under the mistaken impression that a person's own settings affect others' views within the game.
I'm kind of lost there as well. I didn't realize you could "hide" your name from players somehow by working the system, unless you just mean /hide from searches.

  19. So when exactly are accuracy and defense rolls made for an attack? At the very beginning of the animation, or at the moment of impact?

I was wondering because I was fighting BAB and he started winding up for KO Blow and I decided to pop a couple of purples in hopes to avoid the devastating impact. It seemed to work, but I didn't know if I got extremely lucky or if popping the purples actually helped.
  20. It's controversial because beating up 'Nazis' is bad...

    Wait, what?

    WE!

I quickly scanned through the forums in hopes of seeing anything about WE (Winter Event) '09. Forgive me if it's already been discussed to death as I've been away for a few months, but IINM last year it started around Thanksgiving, so we're pretty much at any time now. Last year the ski slopes kicked my you know what due to lag issues, but this year I've come back with a smooth connection!
  22. I use a HP HDX laptop, with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.67 ghz processor, a P8800 graphics card, 4.0 gb ram, and windows vista 64 bit operating system.

My problem is I can log in and select a server and character, but once I load the character into the game my laptop dies on the spot. A complete system shutdown. It's happened 3 times in a row.

I checked for obvious things: battery power is full, internet is working properly, etc. The only thing I can think of is that I raised the game's resolution before these crashes and perhaps it's too much for the laptop. I've been trying to at least load my character into the game so I can change the res. back, but it seems I'm SoL there.

    Any ideas?

    I16 question

Will we be able to edit the colors of a character's powers once they've been created? In other words, is this permanent like power sets and origin, or is it still customizable like costumes?

I don't expect any solid answers since I-16 was only announced recently, just wondering if anyone has heard anything.
  24. My short double XP story:

Went AWOL for awhile because I got burnt out from the game, for various reasons, but topping the list was the AE controversy. I finally get the urge to play again today after a month off and I'm excited after seeing that it's double xp weekend. I had completely forgotten about it. Well... you see where this is going. I log on, while anxiously awaiting the chance to play while my face is lit up like a kid waiting in line to play Capcom vs. SF in the arcade (back in the day). I quickly realize nothing has changed with AE, and that with double xp it's only worsened, and after forcing myself to play a couple missions I end up burning out again by the middle of the day.

On a side note I was awfully surprised to see that the servers were all green like a normal sunday. How does that happen on double xp weekend?

Anyway, I'm just waiting for I16 to come out so I can make some new characters.
  25. Really? No other comments? I was kind of excited to hear the feedback.
