  1. Good Job narrowing this one down Red.

    Robot event

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing something similar to the legendary Brass Monday.
  3. It is entirely possible that it's caused by an extension or theme or whatever but all of the comments I could find referred to it only happening with 3.6. In other words not all 3.6 users were affected but all affected people were 3.6 users.
  4. If you have an ATI card t's a good idea to look at all the settings suggestions linked by MB. However if you don't want to go into it in depth just yet the most important things to do are go into settings and either turn water effects completely off. Or else turn water effects to low and turn Bloom and Depth of Field off.
  5. That's a vbulletin security error. I'm guessing you just upgraded to the latest version of Firefox 3.6. There is something in that version that causes the error every time somebody tries to post on a vbulletin board. Until one or the other of the softwares is patched you will probably have to roll back to an earlier version of Firefox. I'm using 3.5.8 right now and it's working well.
  6. I just kind of pictured it as one of those comic book events where a bunch of groups are gathered for some reason or another when something big happens and each team leader shouts out their battle cry as they go rocketing out of the building.

I have nothing against the players behind it what so ever. Nobody is forced to join in any event and never should be. However my hero who was in the costume contest lineup at the time could now not be convinced to team with or join the Gods even if he was offered leadership.
  7. Heh, I was under the impression that this was an RP SG. But when the banner event hit Galaxy and heroes were yelling for help the majority of the people in the arena declined so they could continue the costume contest. For a non RP group that's fine because after all, it's just an event triggered by turning in salvage. For an RP group though...

I just can't see Captain Marvel saying "I would try to divert that meteor that's about to hit the city but I have a Chili contest to judge by golly."

Now I can definitely see Guy Gardner saying that. Except for the "by golly" part.
  8. I planned to go for a cheap visual joke but I'm too lazy to bother doing it in the costume creator. So if I had it would have been.

Statesman with a dollar sign symbol replacing the star.
Synapse with a target on his chest.
Citadel with sleeping pill on his chest.
  9. After 30 minutes of pain and mockery Ricky realized that punching flaming barrels might be a hazing ritual rather than an effective method of gaining flame powers.

  10. All the news is at least good. The best part in my opinion though is that they finally took the Positron TF and changed it back into what it originally was intended to be. Two separate task forces. The TF was originally two TF ideas squished into one because they decided not to do the Faultline TF.

As I'm also in Os X 10.6 there should be no problem at all with memory needed to run CoX. Especially taking in consider what I said before; that a 25 man raid in WoW with most of the settings maxed out, some on high and medium draw distance doesn't even make my Mac Mini break a sweat (yes it stutters some in Dalaran but that place is so damn zerged).

I love CoX. Would they only adress this issue I would love it even more then I already do. Hopefully GR won't suffer from the same tearinesss
WoW with it's low graphics requirements isn't exactly useful for performance comparisons. It's like saying "When I'm on the freeway with 500 other cars I can keep up with them perfectly fine and even pass many of them. When I get on the race track though everybody is passing me. Obviously this is a flaw in the track surface that needs to be fixed."

WoW isn't a niche game like CoX. It has such a huge audience that it deliberately keeps it's graphics requirements at rock bottom just to keep the masses subscribed. CoX on the other hand continually upgrades it's graphics so that a machine which will work great today will work horribly 4 years from now.

And if you think the WoW graphics are good on high settings then take the time to actually look closely at them next time you play. Note that many of the clothing items are not actually separate pieces attached to the model but rather just a surface drawing on the character base. You can notice it most with the belts. Actually look at them and you can see they are just drawn onto the character's body.

There is nothing wrong with this technique since it does allow the vast majority of people with older computers to keep playing at full settings without needing to upgrade but I personally would rather upgrade my own system and see the graphical improvements. I don't want to be satisfied with Doom I level graphics when I can be playing with Crysis quality.

I'm not saying that the lag in the valley can't be bad. Perhaps the proper solution would be to limit the attempted rendering of capes to a short distance unless in ultra mode. Or to change Cimmeroran costumes to only include capes for lieutenants and bosses. I just had to start this post out with the WoW comparison though because it really is a poor comparison.

  13. If you have tried safe mode and that doesn't reduce the resolution then the problem is not with the graphics setting in the game but with the drivers or the monitor settings.

My suggestion, roll back your drivers and see if you can get in game. If you can then check your game settings and see if they are correct. If they are and you weren't actually having problems with the old ones then stick with the old drivers.

Sometimes upgrading to the latest drivers whenever they come out isn't the best option. In fact if you have an older card then it's often a bad move.
  14. You could have bought a 4 to 8 pin converter.
  15. Ah well. If he does a chargeback like he threatened to then the account and any other accounts associated with that credit card will be perma banned so hacked or not the account won't be doing any further damage.
  16. It's the satellite latency. The only real way to solve it is to open up a bunch of updaters. Launch the first then when it's running launch a second then a third then etc... When one finally connects then close the rest and start playing.

You can also skip the updater entirely by adding -projectcoh to the end of the target in the updater shortcut. So it looks like this

    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh

Then it will skip the updater and connect directly to the game. Every time there is a patch though she will have to go through the updater again to download the patch before she will be able to connect.

EDIT: Curses, beaten by a few seconds. I'll get you and your meddling dog next time you nosy kids... I mean Father Xmas.
  17. Also your password can not be more than 13 characters.
  18. Although there is no debating that Tank's posts tend to be overly dramatic and completely blown out of proportion I do at least partly agree. I tried to make interesting and entertaining arcs in the MA.

To do this I focused on two things. First, creating custom groups and testing them out to make sure their power was on a par with existing groups. Not overpowered but not tissue paper targets either.

Second I liked making the arcs so that the danger ramped up as they arc went on. In a comic book it would be something like Iron Man starts an investigation and is attacked by agent of AIM. As he continues to work his way deeper into the plot he encounters AIM agents with weapons specifically designed to take him on. Finally he winds up against Super Villains who have been hired by AIM or were working with them all along. It's a classic comic book type plot. The problem is this when trying to recreate such a story.

Balance the custom groups so they are equal to canon groups? Sorry, they don't have every single power they need so they are worth less exp.

Have the first mission equate to taking on AIM troops? Sorry, those are minions with a couple unique lieutenants thrown in. Uniques don't count for the all 3 needed rule so the reduced exp of the minions is cut to almost nothing.

Middle section of the arc is minions and lieutenants but not yet the named bosses (supervillains)? Sorry, still only two out of three groups needed and still don't have every single power available to them so exp is reduced.

End of the arc? Well you get the idea. I liked creating the stories I wanted to tell but almost nobody is willing to run through one of those stories if it doesn't give full exp. And I really don't feel like turning my custom villains and story line into just another Nemesis plot.

If you actually want to check the arc I was working on when I gave up it's #250142 Lockdown. And keep in mind while playing that I had to tone the custom group down severely because they were causing team wipes left and right for experienced players. The arc is actually pretty much complete with only minor tweaking left.
  19. I just want to add here that the reason the Kheld took two shots to defeat Hami is because the damage cap of the game was slightly less than Hami's hits. Otherwise a one shot would have worked. At least according to some dev, forget which one though.
  20. This is exactly why I refuse to visit anybody who lives in a housing development. The layout for every house is exactly the same although sometimes mirrored. Sure the people in each house are different but they stand around in the same rooms. The activities that take place in each house may be different but they are all still activities. Sure the furniture is different but the beds are still in the bedrooms, the kitchen stuff is still in the kitchen, the couch is still in the livingroom... I think you get my point.

And let's talk about cities. Every time I visit them the streets and buildings are in the same place they were last time. Sure they get an expansion sometimes but that new building or street gets old and repetitive very quickly.

In fact I don't even know what I'm doing in this forum. I'm still using the same computer I had last year and sitting at the same computer desk using the same internet connection. I think it's about time that the movie 2012 happened for real. The Earth needs reskinning.

  22. Changing the port to 13094 is about the only thing that really makes an improvement. Just keep stopping and restarting the connection every hour or so. One of these times you will get a faster connection.

Just to reassure you, I almost always get a fast update connection but there just seem to be certain days when the server moves at a crawl. So this problem will likely not affect you every single update but only occasionally.
  23. The primary problem is your video card. Yes your hijackthis log shows evidence of malware but the card is the most likely frame rate culprit. In that card number the first number (the 9) refers to the card series and it's the second number (the 1) that refers to the processing and display power of the card. 1 is not a high number. The games that card are most suitable for are solitaire and bejeweled. You have a decent gaming rig with the exception of that card.

You can pick up an 8800 or 9800 fairly cheaply and they will be light years ahead of the card you have in the machine now. Though you might want to buy a newer and more powerful card in preparation for GR.
  24. A few days ago I saw a Crey Agent go to heaven. My scrapper took down the agent and his body crumpled to the floor normally. The targeting box however rose up and through the ceiling then vanished.

    Game Crashing

I certainly haven't noticed it. Also it's likely a pure coincidence that it's related to the Christmas event otherwise there would have been a lot more posts about this sort of thing lately.

Since it's happening for you on multiple systems there is very little chance that it's hardware failure but is more likely related to something you have installed on the xp systems but not the Win7 systems.

Could you post hijackthis logs from the systems that are affected?
