Quote:After reading these forums for so many years, this is pretty much my viewpoint on MMO players in general, not just City players really. You know, in all my 31 years, I have never seen a business of any kind where the customers feel so entitled to try and dictate how that business is run.
I have no problem, at all, with more variety being added at some point to the methods of gaining Incarnate power and costumes, etc.
I have worked for a software company for about 12 years now and even our most difficult customers, who pay us thousands of dollars a month, do not have the entitled attitude displayed on these forums by gamers who pay $15/month for an account.
Sure, we have a customer that is so full of his own ego that he thinks the ideas he has floated to us are the only reason our software is as good as it is today, but even he does not have the chutzpah to tell us to stop adding features he can't/won't take advantage of within his business.
While constructive criticism and feedback on all portions of the game is something the devs need to hear, frankly, most of the threads started on this topic sound nothing more than petulant children that have gotten a smaller piece of cake than their siblings, all the while making up unsubstantiated 'facts' to backup the arguments.
Personally, I expect more from adults. -
Quote:What about you?^
This deserves quoting again.
So, you like trials? Good for you. What about those of us who don't?
Really, what about you?
Paragon produces a product/service.
There will be people that like and people that don't.
It's called reality.
There is no MMO company on the planet that produces a product every single gamer, or even every single customer, likes all aspects of in terms of game play and content.
Like any business, there is simply no way to please everyone and it is foolish to even attempt to do so.
This incessant complaining about the product has been here from Day 1, it is not going anywhere because it is not something that can ever be fixed. Pedantic gamers can NEVER be pleased and more than OCD (or CDO if you prefer) can be 'cured'.
Does that mean as a customer you are not allowed to complain, or that you should not voice your opinion of the product? Of course not.
However, to act as if you should be catered to when an aspect of the product itself is something you don't like is, frankly, shortsighted and irrational.
If you don't like parts of the game, then perhaps you you realize that does not mean there is anything wrong with those parts, it's simply that you don't like them. -
Quote:Wow that's a lot of tinfoil....I think that's a very optimistic point of view. Maybe overly optimistic. The business model is designed to make more money in a less obvious way. This of course allows those using this model to adjust it to make sure players are spending more. Not to understand this is like not understanding that a marketing department is a lot like the CIA. They can tell you they have your interests in mind but in the end they serve the interests of the company first.

Quote:Starting with such a closed minded view of the situation is not really going to help your case, IMO.-shrug- I'm not determined, it is and it is. There really isn't a good argument why this would be game destroying. In my semi-experienced opinion this works, and works well. But hey, I'm just suggesting what I see as a way to better make the game prosper, and I know nobody wants that...
While your idea has merits, it does have flaws even if you choose not to see them.
Since you have arbitrarily decided there is no counter argument, then by all means, continue to put forth your brilliant idea and I am sure the developers will thank you later. -
Quote:Obviously, you are determined to somehow make this seem logical and implementable.Ah, but it's all a matter of scale. Like I said, let them earn the points once per server. Make it take 200 arcs to earn 400 points. Those arguments are easy to accomodate. And the code? Adding in a switch that makes certain events add a number to a number once should be relatively simple for seasoned developers.
Good luck with that. -
Written a lot of MMO code have ya?
While I see where you are coming form with this and I can even see a few places where some 'earned' points now and then might make some sense, it is simply too exploitable.
For example, let's take an RMT spammer. The account gets played 24/7 by slave labor. It earns enough free points in the first few hours to be able to use those points to gain access to global/broadcast channels and POOF! we have a new RMT spambot.
While I can see Paragon, possibly, someday, maybe adding a way to earn points, I doubt it will be anytime soon. -
Quote:NCNC I feel quite sure has to be PCI compliant. Will the in game store (as it will be handling real money transactions) be compliant with the PCIDSS? In what way will we be insured of these transactions being secured to prevent fraud as there have been a number of gaming companies who have been hit lately? Can you lay out the plans for incorporating transactional processing to the game clients?
Additionally, you will by points that are then used to purchase items, so there is no need to have the CC on file.
Lastly, I would never as a software developer of an MMO give out any information of how the transactions work on any level to the playerbase, this would be enormously risky. -
Quote:I don't think some people know what the word moral means then.I was thoroughly castigated for even questioning that someone might ever quit the game solely on such a moral stance..
Personal preference, taste, even principals to some degree might describe the outlook on the the F2P aspect (or anything else in the game) and staying or quitting because of these things, but morals have nothing to do with it.
Thus my first post and my outlook that quitting the game over a moral stance is absurd.
As for the effort you seem to want make to come up with some percentages of people that think the move to a hybrid model is good or bad, have fun with that if it floats your boat. I don't see the point. -
Quote:That's got to be the most absurd thing I have read on these boards in months....Recently I've been hounded personally by a LOT of people telling me they are leaving the game based on moral standards. Well, maybe that is a big reason..
What sort of moral standards could have any influence over playing this game or not?
The only thing I can think of is some sort of anti-violence tirade and why would you have ever started playing if that were the case?
As for your POV of the game becoming a hybrid between F2P and Subscription based I wil agree only on the point that you are in a tiny minority and that you are wrong about it hurting the games success. -
Here is the build I am toying with for my E3.

How so?
I am willing to take anyone on my team, anytime.
I do not worry over the minutia of every single number and tactical situation.
I do not worry about having to follow something that gets knocked back.
KB haters cannot say that, they worry over those things, which from my point of view is pedantic.
What, exactly, I am being pedantic about in this situation, I genuinely curious. -
There is no KB problem, just pedantic players that think they know best how to maximize rewards-per-minute and who are to lazy to hit a couple keys to actually move during combat now and then.
If you hate KB then it is YOUR problem, not the one doing the KB since it is an intrinsic part of the game.
KB rocks. -
I realize that cognitive dissonance allows a human brain to pretty much justify anything to themselves, but I seriously do not understand the part of a human brain that makes it think hanging around and posting on an MMO message board for a game that it no longer enjoys.
-
Of course it's a waste of time, it's Facebook!
I certainly do not expect anything in the way of new information to come out on FB first, I figure they will just re-state know info for people who don't like the forums and to drum up interest in general. -

Quote:Don't know, don't dare. So, do you think the Next-Gen job postings were for revamping a few zone in a game using a 9 year old engine, or do you think Paragon Studios is working on a new next-gen, non-super hero game?
NC Soft did not spend all that money licencing the Unreal 3 Engine for no reason. Trust me, we'll get CoH2, Lineage 3 and of course, Guild Wars 2.
I never said there would be no CoH2.
I am willing to put up on a bet there will be no CoH2 announced before the end of the year. -
-
Quote:I am very glad you don't get to make development decisions for the game. That, is the stupidest thing I have ever seen added to this game.
Agreed. Also, I will double the number of punched kittens for the same reason.
Nope. This game is clearly based on Marvel/DC-styled heroics... with but a rare few exceptions.
This game has comic influences from all genres, even if some people are too closed-minded to see that. -
Quote:How much?I think I can safely dismiss these comments, if only because once again, you guys have no idea what you're talking about, as evidenced by F2P being announced when everyone said there was no way in heck that was going to happen. The same thing will happen for CoH2 in the foreseeable future. My bet is at Comic Con, but if not then, then definitely before the end of year.
I'll put up $1000 right now that we don't see any references to CoH2 before the end of the year. -
Premium players will probably be able to use IOs and I think most returning PvPers will fall into that category...
-
Thanks for all the hard work!
Please ignore the naysayers and irrational martyrs and keep on doing what you have been doing.
Quote:Irrational, doom-criers are, IMO, the problem, not the developers marketing communication blackouts.Ha! I called it!
Seriously, I know you guys wanted to make this a big announcement and drop an awesome bomb on us with the news, but it would have been nice if you told us that you had teams in the background working on other stuff (without having to tell us what that "other stuff" was) for the past several months, simply so those of us that have had a giant feeling of being left in the cold for a year would actually have known it wasn't true. For the past year, you've been sending a message of "all Incarnate, all the time", and it's been very off-putting. Knowing "something" was in the works for the rest of us would have done a lot to smooth some of the very ruffled feathers we've had around here.
Hype is overrated; letting your customers know you're not simply dismissing them is far more important.
Having rational customers that don't run around with their hair on fire, looking for the worst in everything, would really be the best case...but that's just crazy talk...players having emotional tantrums is much more fun to watch anyway.... -
This pretty much sums up my thoughts for the thread, but I'll say more 'cause I am in the mood to do so.
As far as I cam concerned, the supposed 'iconic' names should remain forever frozen in time.
Why? Because they are generally un-creative and boring to me.
When I see threads like this I look for and generally find that they names people are really 'on about' are the ones that allow them to become a character someone else already made.
Make up your own dang character! Be creative!
There, that's my opinion and I don't care if you like it or not but it is just as valid as the un-creative hack who want's to be 'Thunder'.
