  1. I just closed the browser. Opened it back up and clicked my favorites tab for the boards.

    Said Welcome, Aluminum_Dave

    So now I've been Major_T and Aluminum_Dave!
  2. I got Major_T upon logging in as well.

Sent him a PM about it. Then I saw this thread. Sent him a link to it too.

    Odd.
  3. Rockin the aura has to be one of the most annoying things in game.
I very rarely even use the aura on my Empath. When I do its because the team is about to bite it so I set it on auto so I can keep firing off Heal Other/Absorb pain and buffing.
As soon as the fights over it gets turned off though...

    Other than that I'd have to say its;

Team mates that can't follow basic instructions. Like when the tank announces a pull and lets us know where. Half the team gets in position...
The other half must not be paying attention because they follow the tank right in...
So we reiterate. Stay here, the tank will be right back.
    Same thing happens.

    Or

When the teams defender starts yelling at me(on my blasters) to stay put so they don't have to chase me down. Even after I tell them not to abandon the team, if I'm running, its usually to get out of LOS. I'll be right back in action. That or I'm about to bite it and my blaster instincts tell me to book it. I aint about to wait around for you to notice I'm almost dead. If I did, I'd be eating floor.
Don't feel like you have to chase me, I know what I'm doing...
  4. Stamina!!!

Stamina will go a very long way in improving your performance.
I'm actually able to get away with not slotting end reduction in any attacks with a 3 slotted stamina.

I'd also suggest looking at picking up Power Bolt. Personally, I couldn't play without it in the build. Really useful since you can use it while mezzed too!

Bonesmasher! My entire style of play changed once I got over my fear of melee and picked this up.
Bonesmasher + Total Focus = dead LT or nearly dead boss!!

Your defense is your Knockback. Power Thrust is great to keep those heavy hitting melee guys outta your face.
I actually picked up Power Push to use as a Boss Mez. With proper use of Power Push I can keep the boss on his butt the whole fight while I whittle him away to nothing.

I really think your whole perception of the toon will change if you pick up stamina. It can be a pain to give up 3 powers for it but. well, its still well worth it. Some builds do just fine without the fitness pool. Blasters IMO do not.

I'd consider dropping the leadership pool entirely. It gives extremely low returns for blasters. So even if you have it for teaming the team really isn't getting much benefit and on top of that its constantly draining your endurance. This might be the easiest way to pick up the fitness pool.

    Enemy Variety

I wouldn't mind having the unique villains from the safeguards appear elsewhere in the game.

We need more singular baddies not associated with any group.
We need a Lobo - just out causing trouble
We need a Joker - doing what he finds 'funny'
We need a insert random bad guy with no ties to anyone.

The first time I did a safeguard and saw Comatoriam running towards me I thought that it was another player. When he started attacking I thought safeguards were PvP agaisnt a player villain trying to rob the bank.

It made me feel like a hero, instead of the cops gopher.

    so...

    more variety = /signed
  6. Guess this is a case of 'to each their own'

My Energy/Energy blaster dropped Explosive Blast and hasn't looked back.
Why on Earth would I keep a lackluster aggro magnet when I could use the slots elsewhere?
I'm 10 times more effective now that I'm not trying to use it. I kept it all the way up to level 48. Realized I very rarely used it, and the times I did only got me in trouble. Dropped it for Conserve Power so I could pop a blue after Nova and keep on trucking.

This works for him because he's a blapper that uses SS+Stealth though.
  7. Not just on forums, the U.S. itself seems to be more rude as of late.

The topic came up the other night, I theorized that humanity is actually connected by an energy field that vibrates at a certain frequency.
When this energy field is charged with positive ions the majority of us are in good moods, willing to lets things go, etc. However, when this energy field is charged with negative ions we all seem to be more irritable and quick to lash out.
Those of us who are normally happy-go-lucky simply become apathetic when this happens.

It would seem that we're in a -ion phase atm.

  8. I would enjoy a prehistoric romp myself.
Have Ouroboros go haywire and send Creys Folly into the Triassic era.
Dinosaurs have to be stopped before they spill into the other zones!

Or, have Portal Corp find another Earth, one where the dinosaurs became sentient. You could have a race of bi-ped dinos that are the dominant lifeform. Then lesser dinos could be used as guardianns, attack raptors, heavy lifting, riders...

I'd take this over new playable skeletons myself.
  9. I have more reason to play than ever. Now if I could only find the time to play.

So much to do. Wanna try new settings on at least 4 alts.
Rolling up atm 2 new ones.
    Yep, not bored here.

    Nintendo Hard

Yep thats the one. I even tried explaining to her that it dealt with mature subjects, lampooned lots of movies and had lots of things to do.

    Her response.

"Its a cartoon squirrel!?!?!" She couldn't get over the 'kiddie' look of it.
Now she's begging me to buy her an Xbox so she can play 'real' games.

I tried to suppress my nerdrage and asked what she meant by 'real'

She said "You know, games that are dark and real looking not cartoonish."

I remember games being fun, regardless of what the graphics looked like. (Nostalgia kicking in now....lol)

Its not just gamers, non gamers are being affected as well. My girlfriend has never really been what we'd call a gamer, mostly casual play here and there. She's been playing Fable 2 over at a friends house. Long story short. I dusted off the N64 the other week and popped in Zelda Ocarina of time.
Tried my best to get her to play it, told her all about the epic adventure that awaits. An adventure that spans time and is easy to pick up. I felt sure if she could play Fable she'd have no trouble getting into Zelda.

    The response...

This looks like a coloring book! I can't play this kiddie garbage!

    /headdesk
    /Facepalm

It's not about the graphics people, its about the gameplay.
She's been spoiled by Xbox and its shiny textures...

**sulks away putting his box of great titles like Mario64, Goldeneye and Conkers back in the box because they look too childish**

    Going old school

So with Issue 16 I rolled up a Radiation/Fire blaster, colored the fire green to match my rad and went to town.
After the sewer team got me to level 7 I started to do the usual jog over to KR for my raptor pack. Then I stopped and stared at the blimp over Atlas.

It reminded me of the feeling I used to get playing this game. Way back when we didn't have Safeguard temp powers, or vet rewards. Back when the Hollows meant lots of running and dying.
    So...

I decided to roll this guy old school. No jet pack, no IO's (until the 30's anyways) just good ol running and avoiding spawns.

He's currently got Frostfire ready to go. Plan on melting him later tonight.
I've found that I indeed was missing something by flying from level 6 on.
There is something... visceral, in figuring out how to skirt by that spawn of trolls without getting aggro.

    Anyways, on to my question(s)

It's been ages since I've done the low level content. I've skipped the Hollows ever since I realized you could. Needless to say I'm a little rusty on the arcs before level 25 or so.
I'm wanting to run the Faultline arcs with this guy.
I know they go from 15-25 but is there an optimal level to start at?

If I decide to leave the Hollows after finishing Flux's Arc what would be my best course of action to hit 14? Was debating trying to solo the Posi TF at -1.

Any other suggestions are welcome naturally. Once he gets to Croatoa level I'll be more adept on where to go what to do.

Just for reference, I mainly solo. Usually going the radio missions/Safeguard grind to 22.
  13. MaestroMavius

    Solo TF's

Yeah, I've got a really great SG that I'm sure would be willing to help by logging in a rarely used toon then logging out without quitting the TF.
Thing is, I've got a terminal case of altitis.
I might start the TF one a monday with my blaster, and then decide to play my MM or scrapper the rest of the week. I just wouldn't want to have someone log in their toon and see that 3 weeks later they're still on the TF.
  14. Most fun for me comes from my concept toons.

Dark Melee/Regen in my sig. True, he was created way back in 2005, true he's still only level 39, I've hit a roadblock of sorts with him. He's either so powerful I get bored, or he's dead before I can blink. Can't seem to find the middle ground.

Claws/Regen - The Woodsmen I just love the look and concept I got with this guy, His claws are actually razor sharp leaves, other costume has steel hard vines. I'm just not crazy about using the same secondary. He's only level 22 but I'm already contemplating rerolling as a Claws/Dark.

    Only one I just couldn't get into was my;
BS/Fire - Something just didn't feel right with this combo, I deleted him at level 18.
  15. MaestroMavius

    Solo TF's

I've been around since shortly before Issue 4.
In all that time I've still only scratched the surface when it comes to TF's
I've done a grand total of....
    4.
Synapse - During a CapeRadio event
    ITF - Thanks to Gabz
    Statesman - Thanks to PCSAR
    KHTF - Speed run

I would Love the ability to start TF's without anyone else. I hardly ever have the time to devote more than 3 straight hours to playing. Not to mention I'm not on the most up to date rig. meaning annoyingly long load times and frequent lost connections. So, I've always passed on TF invites.

I'd just like to be able to run the arc at my own pace. Without holding up anyone elses toons.

    Nintendo Hard

Was reading the link to Nintendo Hard and about 3/4th of the way down I notice this:

Any mission in a cave in City Of Heroes is bad. The tunnels are tight, hard to maneuver in and force PCs into close combat which some of them are ill-equipped to survive. But one cave map tile, known to many as "the layercake of doom", takes the cake (pun intended). This large chamber, usually found at the end of a cave, is five levels tall. Not only do the mission objectives often require the whole room to be cleared of foes, but there are many gaps in the floor(s) that can drop an unwary hero down one or more levels, often into a pack of angry enemies, possibly including their boss. And even if it's safe, he still takes falling damage. Groans and expressions of hatred for this room are common whenever it is encountered during a mission.
    • Then there's the maps set in the hidden underground city of Oranbega - "a maze of twisty little passages, all alike" only begins to cover it. What makes it worse is that the locals have a nasty habit of taking hostages and hiding them in nooks and crannies where they are easily missed.
      • AND the random portals which WILL split your party, whether you want to or not, and the rooms which literally tie themselves in knots, and the hidden passageways which invariably lead to the boss ..
Not sure I'd deem the caves as 'Nintendo Hard' Just really annoying. ;P
  17. My Necro/Dark really hates anything with 'Flame' in its name.
Always the 1st thing I target with Petrifying Gaze. Nothing spells death on an otherwise flawless run like fire. 1st time I noticed all my guys take to the hills, leaving me looking stupid, I realized I had to do something about those fire types.

    Hmmm, lets see...

1st one I recall was A boy and his blob. Such a wonderful concept, I just could never figure out where the heck to go or what jellybean to use. Still bugs me I couldn't get into this one.

Super Mario Brothers. The original. I'd crusie right along until level 7-4, then things started getting hairy. At level 8-1 all hope was abandoned.
Could have been the fact that I was 9 years old though...

Ghostbusters. This game can be played right??
Right? All I seem to remember is walking up stairs, and then more stairs...

It should take a fair amount of time to reach 50. By then you'll have alts you'll want to play.

When you can get your 1st 50 without ever doing anything, it affects everyone. How many new players signed up when AE came out only to have their first 50 in 2 missions, doing what they thought they were supposed to be? Those same players aren't still here contributing to the financial health of the game. They aren't here still adding to the community.
They left for a more stimulating/challenging endeavor.
They took their $15.00 a month with em too.
That in turn affects how much money gets put into Issues.
    See a pattern?

    How's that for hyperbole...
  20. I always hear this arguement of "It's my $15 let me play the way I want"

Well, there is a problem with that logic.

It's my $15.00, I enjoy griefing others so I should be allowed to!
It's my $15.00, I find making racist remarks fun so I should be allowed to!
It's my $15.00, I enjoy racing through levels at breakneck speed so I should be allowed to.

None of those would be considered 'ok' so why should the AE building be allowed to devolve into a PL hotspot? Because you pay your $15.00 and enjoy powerleveling?

Nope, sorry, that excuse don't fly round here.

The devs have stated on numerous occasions that this game wasn't meant to be played like that. Why would they want everyone to be able to burn through all the content in less than a month?
    Oh, wait, they don't.

    /Endrant
  21. You might be weird, don't know you well enough to say otherwise.
But your not the only one.
I was about to make a thread about this very subject. Thankfully I used search 1st!

Yeah, I just thought with all the hub-bub about Issue 16 and GR that we might not get the event this year.

    Level Indicator

I'd still like the option to turn the indicator off.

Small thing I know but its bugging me. I too, searched for a while looking for the option.

Not that distracting, I just don't like being visually reminded that I'm only level 13...
  23. Somehow I just knew that was going to become the fotm meme.

After I saw the USA Today Front page story about it.

Really, the USA Today.... ran it as the cover story...

    *Sigh*
