    - Examine your character's overall Area Effect potential. When it's good, more lower level foes can often be better xp than bunches of higher level ones. Even if you're more of a single target monster, find a good mix so that you're not beating up the same boss for 3+ minutes, because killing 3 Lts in the same time span will be more xp and less hassle.
These are simple yet HUGE pieces of advice. I generally switch between 2 to 3 regularly for patrol XP, I also log out in Police Stations, for the XP bonus it grants.

I've also found, with all my toons, that the level 32+ game is when my tactics and overall feel of a character begins to get refined for the endgame. The higher level mobs, with more mez and attacks, require new strategies and tactics that I didn't need in the early game. Thankfully I now start getting enough slots and powers to round out the build and advance as needed.
My eng/eng blaster became an assassin at this stage, picking up SS to compliment Stealth and ghosting missions to obliterate bosses as quick as I could. Where as before the 30's he'd been played as more of a take time before each group toon. Etc etc.

Lowering the difficulty to improve levelling speed would seem counter intuitive at first glance but it indeed works, if you have the AoE power to support it. My Fire/Fire Blaster for instance, his speed nearly doubled once I lowered the diff down to -1X4. Mobs just melt and speed increases as a result, faster clearing means faster end of mish bonuses!
  2. Indeed those should be working.

I found my reflexes weren't up to snuff trying to use keys for the forms though, so I decided to use the back and forward buttons on my mouse.

I have it set on all my toons for back to use a respite and forward click to activate my travel power. But the warshade is so much easier to form switch not having to let go of the mouse.

    /bind button4, "powexectoggleon Dark Nova$$goto_tray 9"
    /bind button5, "powexectoggleon Black Dwarf$$goto_tray 8"

However, I'm still having to use the numpad to toggle off, I was using one to turn on Nova and the other to turn off, until I got Dwarf.

Is there a way to bind it so I can have more than one command connected to the mouse buttons? Say like I have above but then have holding shift and clicking turn them off? I'm still learning the ins-outs of binds and macros.

It might be hyperbole in this context, but the effort put into playing, either viewed as easy or hard, is still an investment. Some are more invested than others. We hope the majority of returning prem's aren't so invested they can't adjust/get so upset they don't even care to purchase anything.
  4. I've given up soloing AV's on my DM/Regen. Only one I've been able to take was Maestro (curse you name stealer!!) but he's relatively a push over.

I just don't have the reflexes needed apparently. That or not enough IO power.

*Incarnates don't exist to me, so it's IO's or nothing.
  5. Didn't mean to derail the thread with my anecdote.

Did we ever find out who Bliz is? Or are we going with they slipped and thought it was Blizzard's game?

As far as spam goes, the changes to email eliminated spam for me 100%. I haven't seen goldseller spam since that update. Granted I don't play on freedom though, so it may still exist there.
  7. Good idea in theory.

Quite a few obstacles jump out at me though. Namely, the search function of AE is woefully inadequate, making finding anything decent more trouble than it's usually worth.

The winning arc's would have to have a contact placed in the 'real world' though the new find contact feature should make that easier.

The rating system for AE is a joke and a slap in the face to legitimate authors. Rewarding the farms and keeping the actual content missions buried deep deep in the darkness. To easy to abuse by griefers, to easy to bury good arcs by giving them 4 stars for whatever reason.

As you mentioned, AE breaks with nearly every new update. Most authors have started giving up the ghost due to this and the name violation issues. Which brings out the biggest problem I see.

What happens when a new update hits and breaks one of the winning arcs? The dev's would then have to spend time 'tinkering' with someone else's creation trying to fix it properly before going live.

So while on the surface I would absolutely love to have tons of variety and interesting missions outside of AE, the reality is, I just don't see it happening due to the work involved.

    Good suggestion though!

This sounds like a reasonable compromise. It would return the unique aspect our PvP provided, fast paced combat, yet still allow the melee types to 'get a grip' on rangers. 50/50 = Win/Win
  9. I have hit a roadblock of sorts while awaiting Freedom.

I've got a few concepts itching to be created but...

They'd be best served by waiting and starting fresh in the 'new' world.

    I'm eagerly awaiting creation of;

    Nature's Knight
    Plant/Poison Controller

    Steam King
Dark/? Blaster (It really doesn't make sense that the synergy of Dark/Dark is absent, seeing as they created Dark manip for that very reason, yet nobody seems interested in pairing them now. endrant)

    Kid Tempus
    Time/Elec Defender.

Names reserved... just need the sets...

    Please Fix PvP

This is coming from someone who only dabbled in PvP so here goes...

    Fix PvP.

    Seriously.

It can't be that tricky to simply revert to pre i13 rules I would think. SCR not withstanding.
In my reading on the subject it seems the 2 biggest killers added were heal decay and TS. Just remove them then. So what if it goes back to being the hardcore only segment it was before the 'update'?

Since the changes were made with the intent of wooing my type yet produced the extreme opposite result, driving away all but the most diehard, it would seem logical to return it to it's previous state.

At least then it was enticing to more players than it is now. The 'update' failed, time to revert to what worked.
Nay, way past time to revert to what worked.

  12. Yeah let me add the caveat that I don't have that much recharge so I found I was unable to build up enough -reg with just one use of Howling and spamming my heal. So in one of the reattempts I crafted me one of them nifty envenomed daggers and that did the trick, well that and being able to isolate the adds with Blackhole. (a power I never planned on taking as I saw no point before that fight)
  13. For me the most jarring issue comes to light after you leave.

1-20 I was having a blast! Going solo on my eng/eng blaster was a breeze. (I'm guessing the mobs get harder in groups) and I was really getting into my character. lite rping him as secretly working for Tyrant, then learning Tyrant planned on destroying everything in the universe and deciding to explore the Isles for enough power to take him out.

    The problem?

Once I left and zoned into Redside, I was treated like I'd been there the whole time. No mention is ever made of me being Praetorian. No further story arcs to tie it together (discounting the lame raids) This worked out for my villain, as he would be 'undercover' regardless. For my 1st heroic MM however, coming to Paragon to warn everyone, I just felt abandoned by the story. Going straight into getting the Keith Nance arc popup and running his arc doesn't help. I've been in this world for all of an hour and he's already heard of me and apparently I have a double...

I really do like the atmosphere and story of GR. At the same time though it feels very linear. Almost like you are on railroad tracks. Rolling blue or red I have numerous options open to me, I can go anywhere and do stuff for so many varied contacts that even when I repeat them on new alts it still feels like I have a choice. GR eliminates that choice and shoehorns you into 1 of 4 with little leeway. That isn't because it's new and the other sides have had years of content added. It's by design. Blue and Red had a more 'open world' feel to them right from the start, as oppossed to the you must do this feel of GR.
This is why I haven't been back to Goldside in 6 months. I did all 4 arcs, played around with the undercover bits and then realized I'd be reading the same things on every new toon. Where as if I roll blue or red I have much more leeway.

Also, I'm pretty sure Fredrik is right about the original vision for GR. Intended to be a 40+ jumping off spot for Primals to get into the story and switch sides in the process. Any number of reasons they could have then decided to make it 1-20 instead. Possibly with the idea that GR would be a new box on the shelf and they wanted new blood to be able to see their best work 1st, without having to play 40 levels to get to it. This ended up leaving it feeling half finished, with the final arc that sends you on your way to Primal coming almost out of the blue.
  14. I'll go ahead and promise to give any free player that asks 1 million influence to get over the learning curve dealing with enhancements.

Just send a tell to @Maestro Mavius and I'll email the funds asap!

(at least I would if they could accept it, which they can't.)

Can someone elaborate on these two? Having never played a Stone toon I've only heard about Granite being slow and -jump/fly. Which to me would mean you'd want Sprint right?

Also, I really really want to know how to see my own Nova from a football field away, I'm guessing using SS as soon as you click Nova, but that's just a guess.
  18. My Necro/Dark never uses BG mode. It's a death sentence, as the pets inevitable stop attacking and just stand there. /Dark gives me enough utitlity to not have to bother. I play /Dark as an ambusher.
Putting my cadre of cannibals in a corner and then pulling with darkest, when they round the corner I lay down tar and direct my pets to focus on one individual at a time so they go down quicker.

I managed to solo Numina during the Ghost Widow arc, on mainly SO's and basic IO's. Though I do have the +def and +res IO's for the pets.
Took a few tries, various tactics, and respeccing into Blackhole for the adds before I did though. I haven't tried soloing any since her.

To the OP. If you have never played a mastermind you'll soon find they play much differently than the other AT's. You will want macros and various other binds to make life tolerable. The numerous guides on here go into great detail though, so I'll just let you find the ones that work for you.

Only thing I'll say is; As soon as you roll the toon, right click on the follow macro and edit the end to say defensive. This will be BGmode if you choose to use it. After that type this.
    /macro Go, petcom_all GoTo

That will give you much more control over the pets.

    Oh yeah by the way....

Welcome to the club! (MM's are beasts when played right.)

    Yikes...
KB has saved my behind more than any other effect in the game yet they view it as a negative?!

You may want to look at in-game rewards again ;D

Reiraku already explained this, but PvP was definitly 'on the table' when City of Heroes first came out. The developers had talked about it and had it in advertisements before release.
While the edit to my post does indeed make it more accurate I still stand behind what I said. Arcana can say things a bit more eloquently than me though. My point was, I didn't buy this game for PvP and neither did anyone else before Issue 4, a year after launch.
The game was never advertised to have PvP before that time either. That is all.

As far as ingame rewards being kept seperate, that was a bit of a mistake on my part, what I should have said was, nothing you gain in PvP will ever be required for PvE.

    going solo

I'm guessing this has to be Freedom as I've never experienced that level of vitriol and my main has been Eng/Eng Blaster for 6 1/2 years.

I know where you are coming from though. I stopped teaming on my main from level 32 -50 for a similiar reason. I was never berated over it but back then KB wasn't understood by the general populace. I'd be 'warned' by the leads not to use certain powers like Explosive Blast etc, before they even had a chance to watch me use it properly.

Once I saved a tanks life by knocking everything around him away right before they got the final blow, his health bar wasn't even red it was gone entirely. He survives thanks to my well placed blast and promptly kicks me.

Final straw for me on my main came when I was hunting Nem's in Crey's Folly. Got a blind invite, accepted and saw they were in Perez of all places. So I fly out of Crey's (this was long before Ouro) out of Bricks to steel. All the way to the other line (long before they merged) into Atlas and then finally into Perez. The moment I zone in I find that I'm no longer on the team. I recalled the leaders name and sent a /tell thinking it was an accident. I got a tell right back saying he wasn't going to spend the mission cleaning up after me!! Yeah...

Still, that didn't deter me from teaming in general, just with Energy, as I wouldn't even get the chance to show I'm responsible with it most times.

Also, I never bother explaining why I decline an invite unless I know the person. A simple "No thanks" has always worked fine for me. The few times someone would try to egg me on I just ignored it.

I'll add, if you have anything at all in you search comment other than the standard AT set or TF's and such then you are indeed 'Asking for it' as it will only serve to highlight you to the griefers out there, they pull up team search and scan for easy targets, targets with comments that give them ammo, then they harrass said target because they know how to get under your skin thanks to the clue you gave them. While putting 'Will not team with experts' would seem like a goodway to avoid the aggravation, in reality the exact opposite is true I'm afraid.
  23. Indeed.

Can't believe I forgot about Titan Weapons already. You are correct about Beam as well, I'd originally wrote it out as Street Justice and Beam will be purchasable from the store. Then I recalled SJ not coming out til after and added the shortly after issue 21 part.

That's what I get for not proofreading. /Doh.
  24. Ah!

    Thanks, that makes more sense.

I had a global friend that used to roll a Tank named The Incredible Bulk and was a straight up ripoff of The Hulk, complete with green skin and purple pants. He rolled it to see if he could reach 50 before being Gen'd.

3 years later, He still has Bulk, same default costume. Now a level 50+
I see him on Bulk in Cim gathering for an ITF one night a few months back and fly over to say hey. Right as I land... BAM... He's gen'd and now standing there in plain clothes with a bunch of numbers over his head.

What he'd rolled as a throwaway joke must have grown on him over the years, as he seemed actually upset over it. The group that was forming for the ITF were laughing at having witnessed a Generic happen. I was sending him /Tells reminding him of why he created the violation to begin with when one of the ITF crew chimes in local with a snort.
Something along the lines of: "Yes!!bbq!! It worked, I pwned you fool, was quick too I just reported you a few minutes ago!!!!"

He said nothing as the timer above his head appeared and began counting down. Then the 'former' Incredible Bulk was seen no more.
