No offense, but that really isn't a 'funny' tell. That is more of a /facepalm kinda /tell.
We've had numerous threads started over the years for Mistells. Those usually end up being the funny ones.
Things meant to be said in private broadcasted for the entire zone to see. People badmouthing team members only to realize the forgot to hit backspace...
Best one I can recall off the top of my head was about 3 years ago.
I was just standing in Atlas wasting time when I got a /tell from a stranger saying Hey! haven't seen you in awhile etc etc.
I looked around but didn't see them so I replied that I wasn't sure who it was. The player apologized and stated they'd clicked the wrong name in teamsearch and I went back to local chat.
Probably 15 minutes later I get another tell from the same guy...
Guy - "So I said I wouldn't wear her's unless she wore mine. I gotta say, silk is pretty comfortable!"
Me - "Still clicking wrong names I see?"
Sadly, he didn't reply. -
Guys? Seriously...
I'm gonna quote this since everyone seems to have glossed over it with their bigoted ideas of what it 'should' say.
Quote:Now, I have no problem jumping all over the 'Ragequitters' as I have before. Theres the door and all that jazz. You know what though? This isn't ragequitting... This isn't even 'whining' This is a problem, plain and simple. You don't have to agree with it, you just have to accept it.So I thought I'd log a final entry into this thread.
My friends and I bought CoH during the Freedom sale. Some of us are returning players, some are new. We have been playing the **** out of CoH for the past couple weeks. At $1.99 to pick up the game, plus a free month, it has been totally worth it. We were looking forward to continuing to play as Freedom launched, until the details of the F2P system were announced.
We will not be playing after Freedom officially launches. In fact, we won't be playing after the 20th (or so) of this month. VIP isn't worth it. The graphics & gameplay mechanics are FAR too dated to justify a $14.99/mo price-point (unless, of course, you've already been playing the game for 4-7 years).
The F2P is even MORE not worth it. Things like inventory caps, monetary caps, auction house slots, costume slots, costumes, NEW power sets (not EXISTING CONTENT), etc... these are the things that ANY F2P model I have every played make their bank on. Paragon is locking out the most basic features of any MMO, and calling it "hybridized." If they mean a free trial, hybridized to a free trial, then they are absolutely correct.
Calling CoH Freedom an F2P model is horseshit. Freedom is a desperate grasp for money by people who have no real concept of what a F2P system should look like.
The people I joined up with this past month, we would have all continued playing into Freedom. We would have used the **** out of the Paragon store, because we're whores for the kind of cool EXTRAS that end up on F2P marketplaces. But we will not pay out the nose just to buy the pieces of the game itself. We're not going to buy the games code back, one line at a time.
If Paragon drops the script to a more reasonable (5-10 bucks a month at most), reworks the F2P/Premium system so as to make it actually desirable, reworks the shop so it contains the things we want to buy, not the things we NEED TO ACTUALLY PLAY.... we may swing in. Otherwise, we're done in a week or two.
In all seriousness, I called all of my friends (who bought CoH with me) and told them what the new systems were going to be like. When I asked them if they wanted to play F2P, pay for VIP, or just quit... they laughed. And laughed. Because it was a rhetorical question, a joke if you like, and they all knew it.
This poster, played for a bit years ago and then left for unstated reasons. They heard about Freedom and wanted to come back, bringing a handful of friends (or hyperbole) with them!
Once they came back they remembered the fun, they got their friends hooked and were all excited about pumping money into the store for 'goodies' ala most F2P.
They then found out about the tier structure, realized they'd end up spending all their 'Goodies' money on features of the game, thus leaving them unable to buy the extras... The extra's that attracted them back to start with and decided to cut their losses ahead of time.
Then they come here and calmly spell out why, in a thread asking for feedback on this issue.
Do we offer up alternatives?
Do we inform them about how simple and cheap it is to get the features they'd be missing?
No, we kick them in the teeth and say good day. /Facepalm.
NOW. That said, let me point out the real problem here. Perception.
However wrong Fetus was is irrelevant, the fact is he brings to light a serious issue. Perception could very well kill this whole endeavor before it even has a chance.
Look, this was a returning player, the very kind that Freedom is designed to appeal to. Get them back with the lure of F2P and then they'll be rehooked and subbing. That is the desired goal. Focusing on Subs will be the mandate, I have no doubt. That also means PS is wanting to convert as many premiums into ViP's as possible. In fact, this has to happen.
Sadly, perception could very well stall the whole effort. It doesn't matter what Paragon Studio's calls it, it doesn't matter that we have a mountain of evidence that this is NOT F2P. All that matters is the returning premiums, the new players coming on for free...
They all have the misconception of what F2P means. Since every single outlet that covers this is going to brand it as F2P and not hybrid, they will come in droves, wallet in hand to buy some bling. When they quickly realize they'll be spending all their cash on missing features instead of bling, it's bye bye birdie.
Why should you care? You're here aren't you?
If Freedom fails it's very possibly game over within 2 years. Freedom needs to generate more $ than we are currently getting through Subs. The hope is to achieve this by converting Prems into Vip's and Freebers into Prem's.
I'm not advocating for a change, I'm not saying Fetus was right. I'm saying we need to 'open our eyes' and stop jumping down every negative post like it's the 2nd coming of Twixt and realize that maybe, just maybe, they have a legitimate concern. -
Easiest solo character I've ever made?
That's simple.
Fire/Ice Blaster!
You get the amazing AoE destruction from Fire.
Combined with the wonderful mitigation in /Ice.
Ice Patch and Shiver are wonderful at keeping you alive while you melt everything standing. Shiver is extra nice Vs Bosses!
Honestly. I'm mainly a soloer myself, have been for years. Out of all the toons I've rolled that one was by far the most enjoyable and easiest to get to 50! Was so fun I didn't want it to end, so I rolled a praetorian one to take Redside.
My other choice would be Necro/Dark MM. /Dark is just awesomesauce though. -
Sgt. Elemental in my sig. (just click Maestro)
It's simple really.
He was a military man, on the frontlines. He was mortally wounded though and in the chaos his body was taken by 5th troops. They rebuilt him using various technology, most notably a fusion generator that gave him control over the molecules in the air around him, supercooling or superheating at will
Fire/Ice Blaster. -
Reminds me of this article - 8 tiny things that stopped suicides
I won't go into specifics but suffice it to say, I'm glad I made a simply little phone call when I did, I didn't even know my friend had been contemplating it.
What I gather from that site isn't so much that games save lives, it's that gamers save lives! -
Quote:Burn me once shame on you, burn me twice...If it's good enough to have been renewed, I may have to give it a chance.
I will not invest any time in any show on SyFy. Eureka was the only reason I still had the channel in my lineup.
I'm not taking the chance of getting hooked on Alphas, just to have the suits at SyFy decide to axe it midseason for something more 'mainstream'.
I'll give it a look once the complete seasons are out... Maybe.
Quote:Heck I even used to watch GhostHunters when it first started..but after Seven seasons of no concrete evidence I've given up on it as well.
So yeah, never saw the appeal of those types of shows. I'd watch the special episode that happened to turn up evidence, but like I said, so would half the world and they'd intend to capitalize on it. -
I've been lucky enough not to vendor anything valuable... and notice.
But.
Last night, I Gmailed myself 30,000,000 to share between various alts. Logged in my new Warshade and brought up the email. I then deleted the gmail and clicked new to resend the rest, I'd planned on keeping around 5 million on this guy.
I forgot to hit claim... -
I also traded PM's with him, rallying behind him when the ruffians tried to get him to stop posting.
If it hadn't been for his reporting, I wouldn't have known about most of the cool geeky things happening. He was a highlight of the old Comic section. When the rule switch happened. I got a final PM from him saying he was 'done' and that he just didn't feel up to fighting on a forum anymore.
While he never said anything outright, it was obvious he had health issues. So when I realized I hadn't seen him post in ages, I kinda got worried that something had happened. Now we know.
Farewell Hero! -
I'll add;
Union
Defiant
Zunkunft (sp)
Are the former EU servers, so the primetime for them would be off hours for the US. -
Actually IB, that isn't a typical night on freedom.
A typical night would have you getting /tells from the solicitors promising 5 minute levels for X amount of X, while seeing that in broadcast and Help. Only to finally get an invite to your 'any team not farming' request and lo and behold, the mission is in AE...
So you drop and decide to make a team yourself, maybe run some tips or something. You send /tells letting them know it's a content team, finish forming the team and wouldn't ya know it. Soon as you set the mission someone will always whine that "Why don't we just go to AE? It's faster!"
/facepalm.
Tis why I've got various alts on freedumb that have all but been abandoned. Also why I'm looking forward to the free transfers! -
Quote:Yes, shift+button, ctrl+button and alt+button are considered "different" macros.Quote:Also, to save yourself binding room, you can set a catchall bind to detoggle your forms and activate commonly used powers, like eclipse/mire/stygian circle. Like so:
/bind shfit+button4 "powexectoggleoff black dwarf$$powexectoggleoff dark nova$$powexecname sunless mire$$gototray 1"
Very cool, thanks! -
We prefer the term Hero Support.
Also, check your PM's! -
Welcome to the forums Jaymes!!
Just a headsup, in case you are unaware.
Make sure you don't copy Superman's outfit and or name in anyway. It will end up getting you reported and the name/outfit could be generic'd.
We can't duplicate any trademark or Copyrighted© characters in game due to a lawsuit by Marvel years and years ago.
Otherwise, have fun with your homage character! Feel free to have a 'Superman' like toon, as long as you don't make them resemble the actual one! -
Very 1st TF I ever did ingame was a Cape radio event. Was a race to see which team could finish Synapse the fastest, my team came in 2nd! This was back in 2006 I think.
They played so many player made 'radio' ads during the night, that it really started feeling like it was an actual radio station in Paragon City. The on-air DJ was standing by Synapse the whole night doing his broadcast. Was the most fun I've ever had one a TF.
Kudo's to all the fine radio stations we've been lucky enough to have!
(I really wish I'd recorded some of those ad's. One in particular with the Clockwork King promoting something or other with gothic music in the background was really cool.) -
I think that was the point, trying to point out the absurd.
At least I hope it was the intent. -
Gatesman from Microsoft World
Plateman from Kitchen World.
Skateman from Eternal Youth World.
Satiateman from Blissful World
Kateman from Men with Girly name's World.
Wheatman from that weird agriculturally overloaded world... -
Quote:Here's something relating to that I've always been curious about. You forgot the second half of that last sentence, which goes: ".... as it has to do with the game world of City of Heroes."
You don't give up the character in its entirety. Only in how that character exists within the game world. Example: If your character is from a book that has nothing to do with the game, then that book character is perfectly safe from NCsoft's ownership of the City of Heroes version.
You wake up in the morning with the exact duplicate of your favorite power combo in game, only now you can do it in the real world.
Let's say for expedited purposes that you also very quickly decide to be a superhero and after a quick flight or teleport out to Hollywood to get some designer to whip up your favorite crime fighting apparel, you hit the streets to fight the good fight.
Someone asks you what they should call you.
If you choose to use the same name you've had ingame for years, as your real life super persona, other than the obvious problem of the Dev's being able to figure out your secret identity, would they have any legal claim to you and or the name/look you use?
Yes, my mind works like this sometimes, comes with being an overthinker.
Legal yet stupidly risky?
Can they take you to court and win 'custody' of you, then be able to order you to appear at functions and what not or face court sanctions?
(I've been on a law and order binge tonight...) -
Bit of advice, when posting in the notorious suggestions forum, prepare for the worst and try not to get defensive of your suggestion, it only eggs on the... less respectful posters.
That said, I still haven't felt a need for this in 6 years. I've always been able to come up with something that fits, even if it takes a few tries.
For that matter, I feel the way it is now actually has positive results, when I have a new concept and try for the 1st name that comes to mind, it's usually taken. Which forces me to get creative, a process when looking back, produces more memorable/enjoyable toons for me.
Besides that, it really isn't that hard to grab great names on any server still. Just the other day I reserved Steam King and Pyro Patriot on Virtue no less. Those were 2 I felt confident would be taken long ago, yet was overjoyed to see they were free.
I have to say no to this for the exact reason spelled out by DarkGob, Even if we can hide the global etc, I like being the 'only' Mr. Mystical on Virtue. When players see that name in broadcast or help, they know it's me, and not yet another guy that wanted to be Captain Amazing Man.
Not to mention the griefing that would be guaranteed by people copying just to ruin reputations. -
Quote:Shouldn't be needed. Just switch over to another build, I believe we can have 3 now. Slot that build with SO's, that way when you do resub you'll still have your IO's in place on the other build. It is my understanding that IOs will be completely disabled for non-subscribers who have not taken steps to enable them. Frankly, I do find that somewhat problematic - not because the IOs themselves will be unusable, but because it is possible that a player will have to destroy IOs in order to slot functioning SOs. Asking a player to destroy prior investment in the game in order to continue playing it under the terms they are currently capable of affording does seem slightly harsh, to the degree that the previously available option - not playing at all - actually may seem more attractive under certain circumstances. That might be a problem.

Leiloo - My tiny little terrier would be an Empathy/Energy Defender. She's always wanting to be close when ever someone is sick and has also picked up the Super Speed pool, though it really doesn't make her that much faster than she was before.
Little speed demon.
Spooky - My cat, the fierce grey warrior that gets spooked at the slightest little thing yet always jumps in the fray regardless. Yeah, he's a Dark Melee/Regen Scrapper. He's a fighter for sure, always getting scratched up and healing pretty quickly as well. -
What server was this?

Quote:Fixed.Thanks a lot Von Krieger.
So is there a countdown (or rather up) of "very" for the head start? Will it launched right after it gets to "very very very very very very very very very very almost but not quite yet full moon soon™"?
Edit to add: Just noticed this while I was reading a (rather boring) article on Cracked. Check out the pic they use for #1. Google must like us
