  1. Sadly, I'm afraid the days of content actually mattering to the majority of players is behind us now.

As much fun as I'm having playing with all the new arrivals, not a single one has read a clue, mission description or even the info on enemies... This is in the 20-30 level range.

When I realized I was leading a team of free players, still learning the game, I decided to take it slow. So they could have ample time to read the enemy bio's and etc. After pointing out the boss in the 2nd mob I realized they didn't even know about the info screen.

The pace of gameplay these days, combined with the 'Just wanna bash skulls' mentality that accompanies the free crowd, leaves very few of us to care about lore.

    Fixed that for ya.

    In all seriousness though it should look like this;
    Its jump in
    hit dark pit
    Hit soul drain.
    jump out
    position the cone
    hit aim
    hit disintegrate
hit tier 1 attack - Hope for spread
hit tier 2 attack if previous doesn't spread
    hit cutting beam
start single targeting until your cone is recharged

It might seem counter-intuitive to hold off on the AoE, but the benefit of Disintegrate spreading is worth it. The mob will melt that much quicker.
  3. Because it actually requires me to play, to use tactics and strategy, to live on the edge and win.

I think a lot of this goes towards it being the 1st AT I played way back when. So learning the game with a glass cannon, had me bored with everything else.

When I'm blasting, I'm observing every situation and calculating the best avenue for attack and retreat.
When I'm blasting, I'm always on the move, repositioning for optimal cones and AoE's, using LoS to my advantage and taking the fight at my pace.
When I'm blasting, my life is always one wrong click from ending, keeping me engaged and thinking.
When I'm blasting, I'm hanging back behind the team, taking in the entire spectacle and picking mobs off endangered allies. Leveraging my burst damage where it's needed the most at that moment.
When I'm blasting, I outlive most everyone else, since I can see the bigger picture and better tell when things are about to go south.

The highs far outweigh the lows.

When I'm scrapping, I toggle on my shields, run into the mob and start mindlessly clicking attack after attack. Rinse and repeat until mob is down. Move onto next spawn without even looking. Otherwise known as scrapperlock.
When I'm scrapping, I don't even realize I have a team with me, let alone how to best approach each situation to ensure I don't get everyone ganked.
When I'm scrapping, I quickly lose interest in playing the click, click, borefest.

The lows far outweigh the highs.

    That is why I blast!

Indeed. That, my friends, is the big hidden secret of our world. That we are the 'regular' citizens and that all the 'citizens' are so overpowered they live in no fear.

    Think about it.

My 'Super' hero watches as an elderly lady holds a Skulls boss to a stalemate for 15 minutes, her purse strap never breaking. Yet when I get close enough to lend a hand, I'm eating pavement 2 minutes later.

My 3-ton battlemech, patrols the streets, dispatching gangbangers left and right without trouble. Taking a break to rest on the sidewalk, gets easily shoved out of the way from a small looking woman... carrying her groceries!

That's the truth. The reason why we dress up and fight crime isn't to protect the citizens of Paragon, they are all immortal somehow. No our superheroics are to protect ourselves.

We are the ones in danger. We are the ones needing saved, yet the overpowered populace is content to just go about their day to day lives, oblivious to the fact that regular heroes are falling left and right. Why should they care, they are immortal after all.

It's us that has to worry.

The reason this city has so many costumed crime-fighters isn't because Paragon is a hot bed of crime. No, it's simply because, if your anything other than 'A regular citizen' in this world you all but have to don a mask and use your meager powers to protect yourself.

It would seem things are reversed in this universe. Those born without any powers have immunity. If you are born with powers, well... You'll be using them a lot to protect yourself since you know, the badguys have learned they can't get anywhere with the citizens and only those with powers can actually be hurt.

When, if ever, it sees the light of day is anyones guess. Personally, I'm banking on sometime after Soon™ but before Dooooom.

  9. Now that the subforum has some threads in it I can say this much:

    What a mess.

Hurts my eyes trying to scan those threads looking for something relevant. All I see is:
    SHARING
    SHARING
    CRITIQUE
    SHARING

    OY!

This is from the PoV of someone really adept at using the forums. Someone that spends 6+ hours a day skimming the new posts. So I'm pretty sure I'm better equiped to pinpoint specific threads at a glance far easier than true newbs.

    It's a mess.

Not only that, without it all those new players that come here looking for build advice would end up in the general section and by proxy, would be inducted into the community. Now, with this subforum, it's that much more likely that any new player coming here looking for builds is just going to come to the subforum, find one, then try to apply it without knowing the nuances...

No sir, I don't like it.

Change for the sake of change isn't always a good thing. Would it have been that difficult to add 'Builds & advice' under the description for AT subs or even General?
  10. Can't check atm so...

Is it available now or not? I've been holding off on my beamer awaiting the devastator.
  11. Made over a year ago...

All they are doing is loosening the restriction. It was against the rules to even mention the name of one before, now we can at least name them, we just can't discuss them.

Still don't agree with it, still want it reversed, I don't want to see the misconception that this is new spread though.
  12. Educated guess. They want to add something new to the store every week.

Yes it is. I would hardly call Jones a Vigilante though.

A vigilante would have beaten all of them to a pulp with a bat.
A vigilante would have shot them from afar.
A vigilante would have followed them and rammed their car off the road.
A vigilante would have pepper-sprayed them, then curb-stomped them.

A Hero would have seen an illegal activity and not allowed it to continue. By calling the authorities and, if needed, stepping in to moderate until they arrived.

Phoenix Jones works with law enforcement, using only legal methods. Nothing vigilante about it. Just because you don a mask and run around putting yourself in stupid situations doesn't make you a vigilante.

Edited to add: Look at it from another PoV. It's broad daylight and a dad is walking through the park to soccer practice to get his kid when he see's a fight break out. Fearing for the safety of the lone girl in the mix, he attempts to mediate the situation, asking them to be calm or something. They then turn on him at which point he sprays them to protect himself. Should the police have arrested him upon arriving at the scene? For being a concerned citizen?
  14. Actually you'd need to phrase it like this:

"It'd be awesome if Street Justice was more fluid in the movements, making the attacks seem to flow into the other. Also, if we could somehow have the Ai react to the attacks in a more..."

Which does nothing to get your actual point across. Going out of our way to describe a system or method of doing something in another game without talking about that game shouldn't be needed. It wasn't needed for 5+ years.

Maybe so but I still smile when, in mission, I pop a yellow and announce to the team that I have to get my 1st miss out of the way so it starts working and.... every single time that 1st swing is a miss!

Now I know it doesn't work that way, but no matter what, whenever I've announced it I've always been lucky enough to get the miss, thus increasing the perception that it indeed, makes you miss.
  16. Well, that was at the same time as the Fred's Steak restaurant being 'related to CoH' because a meet and greet once happened there, with a few people, from a server.
Which only added to the confusion.

They told us to try not to outright mention the game by name, but as that was nearly impossible to moderate, they've eased up on nuking every single game name posted and seem to only be gunning for compare and contrast threads. I agree with that, we shouldnt have compare and contrast threads.
Thing is, no compare/contrast was the rule from day 1 of the forums. At no point in time could you compare WoW and CoH without it getting nuked.

What changed was (I won't even bothering mentioning the timing...) it went from no Compare/Contrast to No game except this one even exists. Undermining 5+ years of a tight nit subgroup. We dealt with it though.

Except that, you know, that is the exact reason OCR gave us for the rule back when it was created... In it's original form (Video format games)
The whole no board games issue is new to me, and I paid close attention to the rule since it began.

But hey, I'm all for looking at things from other angles, so how would you portray it Zombie? Other than "Because they said so." What exactly is the intent of banning talking about Bop it?
  18. I've always hated having to wait til 35 to realize a concept, so I just avoid rolling anyone that can actually use the pieces. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of making them Dev's?

Give us access at creation please, I will buy it.
  19. Fire/Rad all the way

    Well...

    Maybe 2 Fire/Rad controllers and 2 Emp/Sonic.
  20. First ward is a grand place to... >_>

    Oh look! A shiny!!

    <_<
  21. All it takes is a $5 purchase to get Tells people, thats more than reasonable!!!!! This is what the Dev's want so it's what they get.

    (this is sarcasm btw)

This issue isn't going to go anywhere. So all those against this simple suggestion can either get used to shooting it down in 5+ threads daily, or get on board.
  22. Sadly, I still miss the good ol forums we had before the new rule. I see no impact to NCSoft's bottomline from being able to freely debate the impact Chrono Trigger and FF games had on the formation of MMO's.

The allusion to Connect 4 being taboo of all things, that's where I think it goes overboard. I appreciate that they have recently loosened the restrictions to a degree but... seriously?
Like having a thread talking about Candyland getting you hooked on gaming, which brought you to this game, will make everyone that reads it rush off and play hours upon hours of board games instead of this one.

Furthermore, this seems to be an addition to the rule, as I could've sworn it was a blanket rule covering Video Games specifically, and that PnP and board games etc were still allowed...

    *Shrugs*

Kinda moot at this point anyways, as the majority of posters that cared left en masse a year ago and the rest of us, we just learned to deal with it. Mainly by spending more time at competitors sites instead of this one, by request of course...

I was all ready to post about how this didn't make sense, seeing as we were just looking at ways to 'trim the fat' on the forums. Couldn't understand why the need to add one.

    This explanation makes sense though.
  24. It's a known issue, been around for quite some time actually. I rarely travel with my pets out, so I've never noticed it personally. I think typing /releasepets should work.

    This 100%!

Beam/Dark blaster can certainly work. I personally can't attest to 50+ performance though. Purely looking at it from a levelling perspective, the reason I say Disintegrate is harder to spread for blasters is because you end up taking out targets before the chance hits.

Higher level mobs however, will stick around long enough to at least get 2 or 3 more shots in to trigger the spread. Teaming, you'll be able to target the boss in a middle of the mob, if you have a tank, and pew pew them until it spreads, then unload with Cutter etc. Though, really this is only an issue if you love aoe damage. Having the extra oomphf as a blaster means you won't have to rely on the spread as much as a corr, you'll be putting them down quick regardless.

The more I thought about it, Beam/Dark does sound like the best combo for a Void concept.

With invisibility you'd be able to position for optimal Drains and....
    Hmmm...

Beam/Dark you say? *Runs off mumbling about altitis*
