  1. Invul works best with all of the t1-t8. I'd also take unstoppable on a scrapper, but consider it optional on a Tanker. I personally skipped unstoppable on my fav Invul tank and have never regretted it.

But I would not skip Resist Energies or Resist Elements. I would delay taking them until fairly late in the build, though.

    Rain of fire

There has to be a slot or 2 you can steal from somewhere else.

    But, if there really isn't...

I'd have to see the rest of your build to be sure, but I think I'd do the Jav Volley quad and the Dam/Recharge, and then Enhance Boost them as far as you can.

Note: I'm not sure now that I say that if you actually can enhance boost PVPIOs. If not, I'd prolly use those two anyway, but obviously it'd be better if you could.
  3. Wow! You actually have an incarnate Petless mastermind?!? And it's effective?! My hat's off to you, sir.
  4. Chiming in to second what a lot of others have already said.

    1) The lockdown proc is very worth it in Distortion.
    2) I don't find the damage procs all that worth it in Distortion or Juncture, but a friend of mine did use them and it doesn't seem to have adversely affected his performance, so I'd say that it just comes down to taste.
    3) Time Defs *are* tankers.
    4) I also like working in as many Chance for -Recharges into a Time build as I can. It's the only way to enhance this aspect of the powers, and I feel it pushes a strength of Time a bit further.
    5) Power Build Up or Power Boost are great in Time.

Well, enough echoing what others have said, on to some specifics of your build.

First of all, it is very solid, so take everything below as just minor nit-picks.

    1) I don't particularly like World of Confusion. Not in general, and specifically not on this alt. Confuse enemies that can barely move from being slowed and can't hit from tohit debuffs are no different from non confused enemies in the same situation. All that happens at best is infrequent attacks that likely miss you get turned into infrequent attacks that miss other enemies. And for this very minor help you're paying a steep end cost. And it does paltry damage. If you want it for thematic reasons, I'd not slot it for damage, if it were me. Double nothing is still nothing. Oblits are expensive to get so little out of it.
    2) I'm not sure I like Kin Combat in Boxing. I'm not 100% positive, but I think using those three slots elsewhere might very well be able to recoup the the defense lost.
    3) You can lose a slot in Hasten, and use Enhancement Boosters on the other 2 Recharge IOs and get almost the exact same result. That saves you a slot t put elsewhere.
    4) Slowed Response, I'm fairly certain, requires a hit to have an effect. And you have no Acc slotted in it. You only seem to have 27% global accuracy bonus and Farsight's base +12% to hit. This might be enough vs most baddies most of the time, but if you fight baddies above your level and or vs the tough guys (which are the ones you'll probably most want to debuff) you may have a hard time hitting. I'd see if I could get some Acc in there. I'd also see if I could get in the Achillies' Heel proc in there, too.
    5) Not sure why you would wait till the very last slot for Temporal Selection, but I guess something has to be last.
    6) I'd be very tempted to lose the Dam/End in Psychic Scream for the Damage Proc. You would lose some End reduction, but no appreciable base damage, as it's way over the ED already on Damage. The proc is, over time and especially vs groups going to net you a lot more damage.
    7) In Psy Tornado, I'd be tempted to swap the damage/range for the proc. Very similar reasoning. I left eh dam/range int he previous example mostly because it was a cone, making it easier to hit more targets. This isn't a factor in the PsyNado. Also on this power, if you can scare up an extra slot form somewhere, I like to put the Chance for +Recharge in this power. It seems to proc pretty often and worth it in the long run if you like recharge.
    8) Since you already have Super Speed, adding in either the Jump or Run stealth proc into Sprint gives you effectively full invisibility on demand.
    9) I'd give serious consideration to a different EPP. Power or Soul would be my leading candidates.

But, all that aside, it really is a solid build! Hope the suggestions help.

Any way you go, Time rocks and your build will do it justice..

However I stand my ground basicly according to your thinking I am taking into consideration of my internet connection, my graphic card, my cpu, my keyboard, my mouse etc too when making a build since all these effects my performance and play style no matter how small they seem to be or how unaware of that and this just sounds wrong.

On the topic; For some builds I take consideration of inspirations. For example I added back elude into my katana/super reflexes scrapper for DA content because my normal content softcapped build couldn't survive in DA without some external help. So my choices were either using one luck in every minute, using my destiny and using a luck in every 1 min and 30 second or using elude and using my destiny when it starts blinking and using a blue of any kind when my endurance crash but before DA content I never took inspirations into consideration into this build and I was walking around with a full inspiration tray with same inspirations for weeks not even using reds or turning things into red.

Apology accepted, though really unnecessary. People disagree, it happens.

You are of course welcome to stand your ground, and as tempting as it is to get back into that fun little debate, I'm gonna resist. I really do think at this point we're into semantics to such a degree to have no real relevance to the crux of the OPs question.

Also back on topic: I think it just makes sense to take inspirations into account to at least some degree when making a build. Even if you consider them, then dismiss them. But they aren't an insignificant part of the game. For example, I play a fair amount of non-melee types. Which means (other than Doms and VEATs) I can get mezzed a lot and have very little super solid mez-mitigation options. I feel it's silly not to consider BFs vs other options for mez protection. MANY people tell me, just eat a BF and don't bother with Acrobatics, or trying to slot Aegis, etc. That's a viable option, but it's really just a random guess if you don't consider inspirations at all. You have to include them in the build plan if you're choosing not to take a power or slot an IO based on the ability of inspirations to do a serviceable enough job to satisfy your performance objectives. That said, I don't think one choice is always going to be better than any other, but if you fail to even consider an option, your final choice may be flawed and you wouldn't even know it. And basically, your choice would then be the same thing as a guess.

Amazingly, though, you didn't have any suggestions of your own....
  7. Haven't personally tried it yet, but Assault Rifle might be worth a look.

2 regular cone attacks. 1 AOE. A location based DoT patch to drop into the midst of slowed/held enemies, and then also the cone crashless nuke.
  8. As an added note, and somewhat of a correction, unless something has changed, you can slot the HamiOs at lvl 47.
  9. Welcome back.

    And as others have said.

    Global channels.

That's by far the way to find people to team with on most every server now. Without that, most servers might feel ghost-townish. With it, many servers should have enough traffic to satisfy you.

My mains are mostly trollers, and the occasional blaster/crupper but all squishy. It's not about bad planning necessarily, I just recognise it's a game and if I leap before I look the worse thing that can possibly happen is I have to hospital.

The reason I ask is that it increasingly seems to me that taking Insp drops into account is a feasible plan and can actually add to my builds. As you and others point out, there's nothing in the game that's infallible (good job too IMO) but if I'm lucky enough to get a high survivability build and then get a few drops that won't hurt either.
Well, it might help if we knew what the AT at least was you're talking about here. But really, there is NO reason to *need* to even get above 25% def. Is it nice? Sure. But before IOs came along, there were very very few builds that could get to the softcap, and yet people played and had a grand time. There is NO magic bullet build, and although many people seem to think so, softcapping isn't necessary at all, nor is it, in and of itself, a guarantee of a good build. The point being, 30% def is very respectable, if the rest of the build is well done and effective. If you're playing a lockdown perma-dom, even 30% def may be overkill in most situations. Yes, all things being equal, more def means large strides in survivability, up to 45%, then more def means just situational increases in survivability. But, the whole game is situational. Softcapping (or even beyond) is situational. Because you can't softacap to *everything*.

I guess to be brief, yes, it's viable. Will this 32.5% build be awesome for farming at +4/x8 solo? Probably not. Is it possible to be very fun, very viable, and playable, with only ~30% def? Of course! The caveat being, as always, depending on your play style, and expectations. (And of course, what the rest of the build looks like)
  11. I'd only ever tried a Huntsman before, but somewhat recently started leveling a Bane, and I have to agree, I quite like it so far. A lot of fun. Only in the mid-30s so far, but that's far enough along to be able to tell that it's gonna be a very fun ride the rest of the way.

So far, never had any interest in crabs.
  12. @Please: I think you're probably correct as to the source of the disconnect. Thank you for taking the time to shift my perspective, and for playing the role of dispassionate 3rd party.

@Kangstor: Yes, I do realize that. And while I'm very tempted to get into a debate on the role of the subconscious in decision making and whether or not semantics allow the word 'consideration' to apply to subconscious thoughts in a decision, I think it fairly clear at this point that you're just trying to bait a heated response if you've got bring Mars into the conversation. Although, I have to admit, I admire the 'out of this world' wordplay. Well done. I'll just decline the baiting invite though at this point, because it would only serve to go further off topic and really, niggling over precise word definitions at this point in no way helps the OP or addresses his or her question.

I've said my piece on the original question about as clearly as I feel I'm able, so, I'll leave it as is for now, until there is something new on-topic to discuss.

Most people don't even realise they got defense debuffed and they will just use a green insps (or a couple) when their health is dropped.
I guess I'm suddenly speaking Russian or something.

That's my point. Every build has a hole or holes. People that take the time to plan out a build, consciously or not, evaluate how comfortably, given their playstlye, they feel they can cover that hole with tactics and inspires. If they don't don't feel that tactics and inspires can cover the gabs well enough to suit them, they discard the build as no good, and try again. If they feel that they gabs will be covered well enough to suit them, then they proclaim the build workable, or at least, field testable.

Of course, because this is the internet, I guess I can expect 7 people to promptly show up and insist that they never think at all during a build plan, thus proving that I am utterly and completely wrong about the entirety of every statement I have ever uttered since birth.

Edit: The OP: Sorry for the mini-threadjack. I didn't realize I had said something so totally controversial. Short story, I am pretty sure everyone builds with inspires in mind to some degree, regardless of how unaware of it they are (or how in denial about it). So yes, it's fine to consider inspiration usage as part of a build plan. No real conundrum. If you feel comfortable with the build, give it a try. If it works, it obviously fits your playstyle. If you don't feel comfortable with it, tinker some more. Or maybe try it anyway, but on Test. What will work for your playstyle on that particular alt and build, only you can truly judge.

Which was exactly my point. Everyone builds to be as able to handle as many situtations as possible and plans to rely on the inspires after. You DO plan to use them. You do accept that there are going to be times regardless of build care and tactical care that you will need them.

It's each person's playstyle that define when 'last resort' happens.

Disclaimer: Yes, some people use them 'before' last resort situations. But almost everyone plans to use them at or before the last resort option to cover what build and skill can't.
  15. The other 2 players I mentioned with the closed inspiration tray will be along in a bit. ;-)
  16. On damage aura defense sets, I'd most often choose a Brute. For several reasons, but most conspicuously, because the damage aura can't crit, but does get the fury damage buff.

Edit: But really, it's close enough that you can just pick whichever playstyle you prefer and make the build as scrapper or brute, and you'll be fine.
  17. I'd be willing to bet almost everyone factors in inspirations, whether they even realize it or not.

If you build to the magical softcap, and you run into enemies with Def Debuff, what to people plan to do? Just abandon the mish? Plan to make 14 trips to the hosp and back? No; they expect in the unusual situations to use a purple.

If you build to have enough end to cover all your toggles and attacks, what happens when you run into enemies with end drain? Do you just expect you end crash and die? No, people plan to pop a blue.

Everyone plans their builds to the best of their ability to handle as many situations as they can, and use inspirations to cover the gaps created by unusual enemy types or a horrible run on the RNG. That's the nature of the game.

I'm sure there may be 3 players out that that build to be perfect for one situation and then only ever farm that one perfect mish, and that actually just close their inspire tray and forget about it, and happily faceplant when the RNG shows them a protracted bout of hate, but those 3 players are just a bit eccentric.

What it comes down to is, how much to you feel comfortable relying on inspires for? For some farmers, it's only to up the DPS. Everything gets converted to reds. For some, it's just to cover the debuffing situations. For some, especially if you don't feel the need to run on x8 at all times, 32.5% def is more than enough for most situations, especially if they also have good res numbers and/or regen or other forms of mitigation. Each players comfort level on that front will be a matter of playstyle and individual taste.
  18. Wow. Not sure I would ever have stumbled across that trick. Glad I asked. Thank you so much for the reply.
  19. How does one get the effects of enhancement boosters to show in a Mid's build? Is this even possible? I have a slew of them, and would like to see what the numbers will end up being before I start spending them.

I'd also like to see how a Hami that is enhancing 2 attributes compares to a lvl 50 dual type IO that has been boosted 5 times..
  20. Thank you very much Roderick. Very detailed and clear. Everything I could want to know, except for that one bit you don't know, and I'm not sure in the grand scheme how much difference that makes.

Thanks for taking the time to spell all that out.

Now I just need to decide how many Achilles' I feel are enough to get it out and in effect most of the time, and stop there, as more is basically a waste.

Also, they are called "characters." Roger Rabbit is a toon.
In some rare circumstances one's character can be a toon, such as in the classic, somewhat obscure, pen and paper RPG called, Toon, appropriately enough. However, the reverse is almost always true.. Most toons *are* 'characters.' Very eccentrics characters, often enough.

Silliness aside, I don't think of CoH as a cartoon MMO, but a comic book MMO, thus the term 'toon' has always slightly grated on me, too. But no more so than the term 'rolling a character' for a game in which there is 'zero' randomness in the character creation process.
  22. I was sorta expecting that, but thanks for the clarification. So a small team that each had it the best result the could hope for is to get it close to seamless always up. OK, thanks.
  23. I am pretty sure (99.999%) the proc can't stack at all from the same alt.

But, can it stack from different alts? IE, if a team of 4 debuffers are all slotting the proc in one or more of their powers, is it sorta like the stacking from Interface debuffs where a team that all has the same one reaches a point of diminishing returns (or no return).

And as a permutation on the above, if an Achilles' is slotted in a pet power, and the pet summoner also has achilles' in another power, would the pet's Achilles' potentially stack with the summoner's? Would pseudo-pets behave the same as true pets in the regard, too?
