Hey all.
Taking a small break from my new project, and want to make another brute to SMASH with.
I love damage auras, and about 6-7 months ago, there were maps in AE set to level 1, where you pretty much punched lieutenants to death, and let the minions burn from the scaled brute damage aura.
It seems something happened and the maps I used before are nerfed to hell from what they were.
I kinda liked this just to kill time with a brute and fill space between groups by leveling quickly.
Are these no longer around? Guessing they nerfed reviving enemies?
Is there another option to this method? A way for low level brutes to farm fairly easily and crank up the exp?
Thanks. -
Thank you guys for the very thorough responses.
I am gonna go ahead and give the Ill/Time a go. I like the concept I have and this information makes me feel better about giving this a shot. May not be a cold troller but it will make the challenge that much better and bring the accomplishment level up.
Thanks again guys, info is much appreciated.
Local, great guides... Will make use of them. -
Been a while since I have played... and Time Manipulation is right up my alley. I very much want to play with this powerset.
Now, after a few days reading the boards, brainstorming, and telling myself this will not be another alt that never breaks lvl 20... I want it to be a troller.
Now, for the primary, I have always wanted an Illusion troller, and it seems like these 2 would fit nicely. I am hoping they do, and that is why I come to you guys.
It seems, from what I have read, they work well together... but that is about as much as I got...
I want to solo mainly, and plan to make this character into a challenge character running about taking down AV/GMs. Am I overreaching here, or is this do-able? If it requires an expensive build, I am willing to pour inf into it.
This combo just seems like it would be too much fun to not try and make it work. Have a concept and everything in the works, and even sketches for possible fun comic covers.
Just want to make sure I am not trying to make a group toon into a power-solo toon.
Thanks in advance. -
Hmm, toss up between...
Dual Pistols / Street Justice (Blaster) with fury inherent
Street Justice / Time Manip (Brute) -
Hey all,
Alright. After a very long brainstorming session, I have finally decided on a Brute that is to be my future main... DM/Invuln.
Here is my issue though, I have not played invuln before, and only a low level DM, so I am not sure if there is any agreed upon powers that are needed/skippable/optional.
I will throw a few quick concerns out...
1) I thought I remember reading a while back to take Smite, SP, SL as the first 3 attacks in DM, but I see many skipping SP and using Maul, though I thought the long animation and hold on yourself drew people away, has their been a change to maul in a while? Am I gimping myself by going SP, Smite over Smite, Maul?
2) Should I take tough? weave?
3) Should I get hasten?
4) Would one consider this combo to be cheap/average/expensive to create a powerful build for?
5) Any skippables in DM?
6) Any skippables in Invuln?
7) Any MUST HAVEs in either one?
Builds aren't necessary, as I will play around with it later... thanks all! -
This is a good one!
My brother and I are duo'ing it right now and soaring through levels.
Myself a claw/ELA, and him a spider.
Only a little over and hour on it, and we are both 16. Good stuff. -
Broadsword/Axe/Mace...
At the moment the swining powers look VERY clunky. Axe and Mace I can understand the need to make them swing like this... but a broadsword was usually not swung around like a meat cleaver. -
I am not out here attacking anyone... just don't see how being able to buff ourselves is game-breaking... but apparently I have hit a nerve with a few of you...
-
I am mainly solo because of the difficulty I have finding teams during the day.
So, as of late, I have been creating characters that solo well, and secondaries such as Cold Domination and Kinetics for my corruptors, for example, have abilities that are fantastic for solo play.
My frustration comes from excellent abilities such as ice/glacial shield, speed boost, increase density, and frostwork, that end up unused for me, and I am sure I am not the only one.
Yes, I know they are built for teaming, but I am suprised there doesn't seem to be an issue with not being able to use these powers if you are soloing for either the time-being, or always.
Apparently I am in a minority here when it comes to wanting the most out of my powersets whether teamed or solo...
Quote:Eh?Eh?
My shield tanker soloed a lot and I think all of her Shield powers are useful on her personally.
Quote:Seriously, you take team oriented buffers and then complain that your team oriented character isn't useful solo? Duh?
Take something with solo/self oriented powers if you want to solo. -
As a primarily solo player, after 51 months, I am finally getting to the point where I am fed up with having powers that I cannot use on myself.
Speed Boost, Ice/Thermal/FF shields, Single Heals... it is becoming slightly ridiculous.
Let's face it, City of Heroes subs aren't booming out of control, and there are points where teaming is hard to pull off, due to lack of people or become or off-times on the servers.
So, when myself, who plays mainly during the middle of weekdays (offtime) and primarily solos, takes a secondary but finds I have to skip 2 or 3 powers because they are useless to me, it gets frustrating.
Now, with the fact that these powers are becoming AoE (excluding ST heals), will they affect us if we are within the 30' radius of the powers?
If this is the case, that means we are forced to team to be able to hit ourselves with the buffs we want.
If this isn't the case, we still get the benefit of being more involved through other powers and less end use, but are still excluded no matter how you look at it.
I just think it is about time that we should be able to use these powers on ourselves, and I don't think that is too much to ask, or is being unreasonable.
Has anyone heard of ANY change to this?
Anyone know a definite answer to if the upcoming AoE aspect of the buffs affect us?
I love this game, but find it silly needing to make one build for solo, and one for team, because I am a "Bad player" since I didn't take my ice shields even though my play-time means I am solo 95% of the time.
Sorry, just needed to vent this frustration...
My apologies... -
((Hey all,
Out of curiousity, is there somewhere to find templates, or page setups for one who is not quite so savvy with code?
I feel my new toon who I plan to make my 1 and only from this point forward needs an exciting layout.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Lukros)) -
Thanks everyone!
I know others have done this, but I from what I have seen, they rely heavily on the lore pets to move damage along. Which is fine, and I congratulate them, but I would to try and not use them if there is a possibility.
As to which GMs, a few would be good. I know some GMs are extremely tough, but I don't need to take all of them down, a few would suffice.
Every hero has the enemy they can't take alone, and that is how I will play off GMs that are out of my league. Even Superman couldn't solo EVERYTHING. -
Alright, I have a new mission. I want a challenge, main, and GM soloer, who is to be the leading-role in a future comic series.
Mission:
To create a melee archetype (Tanker, Brute, Scrapper, Stalker, Blapper, Dwarf WS/PB, Widow, Bane) that when brought to max level and worked upon, will possibly be able to solo GMs.
Rules:
----What is allowed?
--------1) Any permanent powers (even Lore Pets are alright, they are permanent, so I count them, but I would like to TRY to avoid using them IF POSSIBLE)
--------2) Limitless Inf build
--------3) Any build, within those archetypes described, is considered
----What isn't allowed?
--------1) The use of temporary powers
--------2) The use of inspirations
--------3) Outside buffs
I am not expecting builds here, as I will find this to be part of my challenge.
I am looking for direction as what archetypes combos could make this possible.
Now, I realize asking to be able to take down ANY GM is far-fetched, but even a few or more would be satisfying.
I like soloing, even from 1-50, so you can take into consideration leaving out group abilities, or group essential powers (taunt etc.).
Reasoning:
I love the look, and feel, of melee toons, and love creating backstories. I have a comic-book art background, and wish to make this character the leading role in a comic series I want to create. But, in my mind, I want my character to do things some others are unable to do... and GM soloing seems to fit my niche of "powerhouse hero". This would help me get into the character and find a true story.
This is to be my one-and-only main character, and possibly my last 50+.
Even if concept doesn't seem possible in the combo, please tell me anyways, I will make it work even if research is needed to find a connection.
Thank you, very much, in advance!

Hey everyone,
Always been curious, more-so now that I am starting up a DM/SD, of how to slot Siphon Life?
In the ways of SOs, not sets.
I plan to use sets later, but as I am leveling, SOs are cheaper and quicker for me.
Do I slot for damage or healing? I plan to mainly use as a heal to keep end use manageable... but does slotting for damage affect the heal too? or does heal enhancements affect damage... or do I need a mix of the two?
Thanks in advance... sorry would of searched but doing this from my phone is difficult enough -
So, the Steampunk Booster Pack that was announced on Facebook...
Is there any ETA or announcement on the arrival of this glorious addition to the game?!
Since I saw the announcement, character ideas have been running crazy in my head and I MUST have it soon!
Anyone heard anything, or seen anything I have missed on an ETA? -
Falling in love with my Necro MM and I actually got gitty getting this badge...
SOOOOO awesome for Necro MMs!
That is allhad to share!

I haven't the slightest idea how Crab are end-game, but going over numbers and playing with a few builds it seems that a crab Spider could possibly handle itself as a farmer... am I correct in assuming this?
I want a new farming toon that is exciting to watch work, which Crab seems like it could fit the role of.
I am just sick of spines/ and fire/kin...
Other combo suggestions are fine, but I would like to pull off a Crab farmer if at all possible.
Thanks! -
Hey guys,
I want to go a new route with my characters and go AV hunting.
I love my defenders, so I wanted to make my first hunter a defender... and I think Cold/Ice could pull this off, but I am not 100% sure.
So, few questions...
1) Is it possible? (I can farm the Inf if the build is stupid expensive)
2) What power pools do I take? (would like to be a hover-fighter if possible)
3) How should I build him? (Recharge heavy, procs etc.)
With the -regen, it seems it should be possible coupled with /Ice's ST damage.
Any other pointers to keep in mind?
Thanks guys! -
I will start by saying this...
--I am not new to CoX...
--I am not leaving for another game...
--I am a CoX fanboi... always WAS
I love this game... I truly do. But I can't deal with this anymore.
This AE farming is bothering me beyond comprehension, and it is making me hate something I have loved for quite a long time.
I am an alt-aholic, a severe case. I only have 1 50, and many 40+s after years dedicated to the game. Alts as far as the eye can see and now can't get myself to enjoy the leveling anymore.
Do I blame anyone here for using AE to power-level? No, not at all. But I find it to ruin the leveling experience.
Do I blame NCSoft for implementing a flawed system, that is completely exploitable and probably now beyond repair, in this aspect? Yes, yes I do.
I haven't been able to find a decent size TF/SF in weeks.
Parties are now a rarity amongst certain areas.
And my favorite part, sewers runs with lvl 1 or 2s are almost non-existant now. They used to flood broadcast looking for people. Now broadcast is so cluttered with crap, I wouldn't even be able to tell if one was forming. Not to mention, open-world fighting in Atlas is intolerable with the lag.
With AE, what I have seen is...
--an influx of 50s who have no idea what they are doing.
--un-enhanced 50s who think they can handle jobs like tanking or healing effectively.
--harassment in broadcast (50s yelling at lowbies asking for runs; lowbies calling 50s things for not running them)
--A lack of regular parties, TFs and SFs
This the general experience from 5 people, including myself, playing this game that I know personally.
Like I said, I don't blame players for taking advantage.
I do blame NCSoft for letting this design ruin other aspects of the game.
It is enough that myself, my brother and my father as well as 2 close friends are leaving. This system isn't fair to those of us who want to play the game it was meant to be played, and to level the slower, yet more fun imo, way.
If this system is fixed... I will be back. But until then, I would not be enjoying myself.
Take out the popcorn, turn on your flamethrowers and I will put up my PFF.
Anyone who has a problem with this, SHOULD make a new thread... get the point across.
It is ruining what was IMO the best MMO on the market.
INB4 ~Like there isn't already 2832890379073 of these threads! Bleh!~ -

Makes sense to be def capped. Just wasn't sure of maybe something beneficial in a secondary to help with the lower S/L damage of MA.
Completely forgot shield has the multi-enemy +damage. Hopefully that can make the difference.
Thank you for bringing that up. -
Hey everyone,
It is that time again... time to start a new character! ::YAY::
But where my focus was always with AoE and farming... I now want a character to solo AVs.
But here is the catch... I want it to be a Martial Artist Scrapper.
I know it is not the most fantastic scrapper primary, but I find there is really no "bad" scrapper. I don't expect to kill as many AVs as DM/SR or FM/SR, but I want that feeling of standing toe-to-toe with the baddest of the bad.
My question is...
What secondary is going to benefit me most with a MA primary?
I am guessing I would need to be heavily IO'd with some stupid amount of inf to provide to it.
This is ok, and I am willing to farm the inf as needed.
Any suggestions?
Builds?
Experiences AV soloing with MA?
I don't expect to hit 15-20 AVs like other scrappers, but how many, approximately, could I take?
Thank you in advance.

Also we desparately need a tech mace and tech axe. And i'm not sure but talsorian mace/axes if they do not currently exist.

Already a Tech Mace...
Only have one suggestion myself...

This is a great great guide.
It is well thought out and probably the best reason for me to make the MA/SR scrapper I have always wanted to but haven't as a 13 month vet.
I like the fact that you pointed out the major arcs, that on my main and other alts I completely missed and wish I did without exemp. Also, liking the fact you presented which enemies were easier to fight as a SR scrapper and how to go about it. I am also a fan of AS and getting Stam, so it works for me.
Thanks again.
Very well done!
