How can you let AE do this?!

I will start by saying this...
--I am not new to CoX...
--I am not leaving for another game...
--I am a CoX fanboi... always WAS

I love this game... I truly do. But I can't deal with this anymore.
This AE farming is bothering me beyond comprehension, and it is making me hate something I have loved for quite a long time.
I am an alt-aholic, a severe case. I only have 1 50, and many 40+s after years dedicated to the game. Alts as far as the eye can see and now can't get myself to enjoy the leveling anymore.

Do I blame anyone here for using AE to power-level? No, not at all. But I find it to ruin the leveling experience.
Do I blame NCSoft for implementing a flawed system, that is completely exploitable and probably now beyond repair, in this aspect? Yes, yes I do.

I haven't been able to find a decent size TF/SF in weeks.
Parties are now a rarity amongst certain areas.
And my favorite part, sewers runs with lvl 1 or 2s are almost non-existant now. They used to flood broadcast looking for people. Now broadcast is so cluttered with crap, I wouldn't even be able to tell if one was forming. Not to mention, open-world fighting in Atlas is intolerable with the lag.

With AE, what I have seen is...
--an influx of 50s who have no idea what they are doing.
--un-enhanced 50s who think they can handle jobs like tanking or healing effectively.
--harassment in broadcast (50s yelling at lowbies asking for runs; lowbies calling 50s things for not running them)
--A lack of regular parties, TFs and SFs
This the general experience from 5 people, including myself, playing this game that I know personally.

Like I said, I don't blame players for taking advantage.
I do blame NCSoft for letting this design ruin other aspects of the game.

It is enough that myself, my brother and my father as well as 2 close friends are leaving. This system isn't fair to those of us who want to play the game it was meant to be played, and to level the slower, yet more fun imo, way.

If this system is fixed... I will be back. But until then, I would not be enjoying myself.

Take out the popcorn, turn on your flamethrowers and I will put up my PFF.
Anyone who has a problem with this, SHOULD make a new thread... get the point across.
It is ruining what was IMO the best MMO on the market.

Because a lot of us really like AE. It has renewed our interest in the game and we've met a lot of cool people because of it. And with all the new people we know it is very easy to set up TFs and other teams.

Really, you should step back and maybe take a break for a bit.

Just because we have more people with wacked builds, more kiddies with 50's, so what??? There are more new playing than there have been in a long time, and lots of people who didn't play much who are enjoying an easier time of things.

That doesn't stop you from doing anything that you did before.

I somewhat felt the same way as you did, but I think that was because I have leveled 26 to 50 the "hard" way. But now that I see other people in my family playing more, (after they had pretty much left the game) I think, "who care's" as long as we are playing the game. It is still just a video game.

A few points:

* Not everyone in the game PUGs. The introduction of AE has adversely impacted this particular playstyle. If this is your playstyle (it seems to be), there are ways to mitigate the negative impact during this rocky period. If you enjoy the game so much, maybe, instead of quitting, you should explore these other avenues first.

* "Sewer teams" are not, nor have ever been, a built-in part of the experience. There was a time when there were no sewer runs at all. Then people started doing them, and it caught on. No one is obligated to do them, and the practice has never been guaranteed to continue. No one's forming street-hunting teams in Bricks anymore either. Things change.

* Atlas Park is not the only starter zone. City of Heroes (blueside) is only one half of the game and, by all current indications, soon to be a third.

* My experiences, and those of dozens of other people, have not been anywhere near as negative as yours and the 4 other players you cite. I wonder if you're curious as to why that is. No, I don't farm AE. No, I don't power-level in AE. I primarily do regular content. Since AE's introduction, I've seen many TFs and SFs launched. I had no problem getting a full team together to do the new TF. When I want a team, I get one, and I've yet to contend with a single "AE Baby".

I am playing the game "as it was meant to be played" and doing so without difficulty. So are many others. Your issues are not nearly as universal as you seem to think they are.

I don't know what your reaction will be to this information...

...but, based on previous experiences with these kinds of complaints, I do have a prediction.

Well, at least you got the blame part right. I find it extremely annoying when these threads blame other players, like we changed the code or something.

I run TF's all the time. I play on Virtue. I run SF, the reiksman, ITF, Lady Grey, and occasionally Positron the most out of all the TF's.

Like Stirga? I had an 8 man team in Stirga last night. I don't see any of this stuff, and IMO people complain just to hear themselves.

huh? All my new toons use the sewers still. Playing a level 1 in AE is a horrible experience.

That's what happens when we have a large increase in subscriptions. Get a faster computer or post a suggestion for server upgrades to handle all the new subscriptions. Don't ask to change the thing that is the primary cause of new players.

Teach them. If someone asks questions, answer them, or make advice as to someones playing style. On the team in Stirga, we had a newbie blaster who was eng/eng level 25. After a mission or two, I asked him to try and use KB towards the tank instead of away, and he said ok. Not hard to educate them.

Ignore is your friend, use it. Don't worry about not being able to hear people. With the amount of RMT spam in the email, they will be off your list in a few weeks.

I don't see this. What server do you play on? Start your own sewer team.

This irks me. Get over it. People think they can judge other peoples play style, and say that their way of doing things is wrong and your right. If this is your stance to how other people play, then I will happily take out the popcorn, and drink your tears. If these are the type of people leaving this game, then overall, the game is a better place. I would take a newbie that has no enhancements over you any day. At least they would listen to advice while your so stuck up in your ways would probably /ignore or have a little tantrum because I told you how to do something better.

Please, don't come back.

And here, we have an example of you suggesting to other people to break forum rules.

If you have yourself and four other like minded people, you have a team. Get three more people and you have your group of eight. I play on Victory and manage to pick up teams and task forces all the time so I know people exist who are doing these things.

I don't farm. I barely touch the AE, to be honest. I'm pulling my way up to 50 on my Defender the old fashioned way (at lvl 41 now!) sitting solo in mission instances, shooting Nemesis steamworks with my laser eyes all on my lonesome if need be. But I'm still having fun and it's rare that I set myself to "Looking for Any Team" (with "No AE" in my text field) and don't get invited to a team doing something outside the AE during the course of the evening. You have it even easier with a perfectly fine group of like-minded people at your disposal and only need to plug a few holes if you want to go all out.

If you're not happy you should absolutely leave since paying money to be miserable in a game is stupid no matter the circumstances. But I have a hard time empathizing.

I have seen many new players who never leave AE and some who have no idea that there are other zones/contacts/non-AE teams/anything else that would become apparent if they left the AE building.

I'm not angry at all about this; I'm just concerned that these players are missing the big picture. There is more to the game than just AE, and a lot of it can be extremely enjoyable.

Therefore, those players who enjoy the RC should make an effort to get the new players interested in it. Yes, this might involve doing a few AE missions just so that you can spend time with the "AE babies", but use that opportunity. Talk about your favorite RC arcs while in AE, politely compare them to the current arc, and pique the curiosity of the players who have never done that RC arc before.

When they can't stand the suspense, and ask you to show them what you're talking about, do it. Politely. Don't fall back into the "AE sux" mentality, as this will seem hostile to the AE-only-so-far player. Answer questions politely, even if your first reaction is "OMG, you don't know this already?! But you're lvl *whatever*!" This reaction can be seen as judgemental, and no one wants to play with someone who thinks that they're ignorant/stupid/both of the previous.

Getting others to show interest is (in my experience) fairly easy, and it gives RC players a great opportunity to show off thier favorite RC stories/missions.

Now for the hard part. When the new player has had enough of the RC and makes a decision about whether to continue to play it or not, let them do so without trying to coerece them into choosing what you want them to. After all, they have the right to play this game the way they want to, just like you do.

Ultimately, it is thier choice. If they decide to go back to AE and stay there, they are (now) making an informed decision. You did that, and, hopefully, the newer player will tell others of their experience in a positive way, which will make your "job" easier if you choose to continue giving these RC tours.

If they talk about your RC tour in a negative way, they should at least be able to say, "But *your name here* was really nice, at least." This will make the other newer players wonder about what (and who) they're missing. Curiosity is a powerful tool. Use it to your advantage (but please don't abuse it).
Problem solved.
