Yeah but if you were just guessing where did you come up with something like "just shy of a trillion"?
Why not exactly one trillion or even a googolplex while you were at it?

Do you mean how can people buy things that cost more than 2 billion INF? People can easily arrange to meet in game where they arrange to transfer several chunks of INF from either multiple characters or swapping it in from holding bids on the market.

They always pack patches full of stuff that never gets mentioned in the patch notes. We'd be lucky to see patch notes for even 50% of what's being changed in a typical patch. That's especially true for things like this which fixes previously working content that probably only a few players of the game actually care about. Why let 99% of your playerbase know you even had a problem with something they don't care about anyway?

For what it's worth I cared enough about this to report it a few weeks ago myself. It's good to finally see it fixed but I'm not really surprised to see no patch notes about it. *shrugs*

  7. Considering that Statesman was originally Jack Emmert's alter ego I'm almost surprised it took Paragon Studios -this- long to kill him off in the game.

Rather than animated fingers, I keep thinking we could get away with mittens indented with trenches between fingers which are still conjoined. Currently, the Monstrous gloves do almost exactly this, and they look pretty good. Might be a good middle ground between genuine fingers and meat hands.
I think the SoAs having fingers was kind of a special experiment the same way Ghost Widow's animated hair was kind of a unique "proof-of-concept" experiment.

I've read where the Devs have basically backed off giving fully rendered fingers to everyone because of the complexity of the graphics involved. The extra polygons needed apparently pushes the limits of what our aging character models can do. Basically the effort to retrofit fingers onto the old models (and change all the gloves to work with them) has yet to be justified.

Having said that I agree that the way our current "Monstrous gloves" work is a good compromise between the default "mitten hands" and fully rendered fingers. Maybe the Devs could expand on that idea and create a series of "fingered gloves" that have the kind of extra detail the Monstrous gloves provide yet look a bit more human.

Don't really have anything against getting another vanity pet but it just seem weird they'd let this one be able to fly. Wonder if that was a bug or on purpose. I mean if this thing can fly why didn't they let the German Shepherd fly?

It's been advertised that Dark Astoria will become a co-op "solo Incarnate" zone in Issue 22. But regardless of that I do favor the idea of getting new trials (that use the LFG queue) which are geared for 4 or 8 players. The "Death From Below" trial is a cool little run and it would be great if we had a few more of those geared for higher/Incarnate level characters.
  11. People have been asking for a way to invite/promote their own alts in SGs pretty much since CoV launched. The Devs have always side-stepped this suggestion by sticking to the idea that SGs are supposed to be "multi-player" grouping thus implying that they don't think we should be able to invite/promote our own alts like that.

At this point I'm not holding my breath over this. *shrugs*
  12. I really wanted to like Terra Nova but it failed to deliver on almost every level. Well maybe "failed" isn't quite the right word. Maybe it's been so mediocre that it's basically missed every opportunity to be interesting, edgy or unique.

It's like the "warmed over leftovers" version of TV sci-fi. There's nothing in it that I haven't already seen in some variation on other sci-fi shows for years. We've already had the "amnesia" episode, the "fake scientist" episode and several "trapped away from the base" episodes. It's almost like a weird re-imagining of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with the "space station" (a.k.a. Terra Nova) on the other side of the wormhole (that leads back to 2149) but with characters which are for the most part one-dimensional and boring. They keep bringing up this bit about how Commander Taylor supposedly survived on his own for like 150 days before anyone else showed up - given that he's pretty much the only vaguely interesting character I almost wish the show was just about him during that time period. The rest of the characters are borderline disposable at this point.

So no, it should not be renewed. But given how there's relatively little justice in the world of network TV I would not be surprised to see this thing linger on for years to come.

Sure it might make more sense if multiple threads like this never happened to keep all the related posts in one place. But it's hardly like the world is going to come to an end to see it happen again like this. *shrugs*

    Considering that:

    1) Just about every Winter Event of this game has started on or around December 15th.
    2) There's going to be big competition from another new big MMO starting on December 20th.

You'd think that our Devs would have at least -announced- this year's event by now just to try to get everyone excited and prepared for it. *shrugs*

In a game this old and large there's probably a huge amount of "leftover" content that's technically not considered part of the current live build yet is still in the code in one form or another. Including zones we know there's a bunch of "discontinued" costume items and removed/unused badges lingering in the game as well.

One might ask "Why don't the Devs just delete all that junk from the game?" But as you implied it would likely be far more risky bug-wise to tinker with any of that stuff than to just leave it "abandoned-in-place".
  19. Well I'll add my two cents to this for what it's worth.

I've managed to get the Dreamwalker badge twice now. It only took one of my alts 12 runs to get the 16 Nightmares but it took the other 24 runs. In fairness the one that took 24 runs had managed to get 15/16 in only roughly 12 runs or so, but it took the rest to get the last one, which in my case was Caleb again.

My guess is that these Nightmares spawn in a similar way to the groupings of Sig AVs that spawn in RV. They're probably "random" but random in certain groupings like Angry_Angel was implying. This could explain why sometimes you can go dozens of runs without seeing Caleb (for example) and then other times you see him repeatedly.

... for those who just want to grind for Empyrean Merits, that is a simple strategy that encompasses 75% of the trial.
Over the weekend we organized a number of these "ignore the outside" TPN runs. Once most people got the hang of the buildings and how the technicians worked we managed several repeats of getting all the badges except the Fair & Balanced telepath badge. I would say that as long as a majority of the league is made up of 50+3 characters then there's no real requirement to have any super-specific ATs/Powersets for a successful completion other than the typical good mix of offense and support.

I would agree that if anything eventually gets "nerfed" about this trial it's going to be our current ability to completely ignore being outside for a majority of the trial. Clearly the Devs intended to try to make this trial "hard" by encouraging us to split up our leagues into sub-teams. But unfortunately for that design concept this trial doesn't really need us to do that. If the Devs really wanted to make their idea stick they should have required (and may yet require via a change) some kind of activity that must be done both inside and outside -simultaneously- in order to complete the trial. This will probably have to be linked to a nerfing of Maelstrom's annoying ability to one-shot almost any semi-squishy type of character.

It'll be interesting to see whether the Devs decide that the "ignore the outside" strategy is too much of an exploit to be allowed to continue. *shrugs*

Just about the only thing the new Conan movie had over the old one was perhaps a few better special effects, a few minutes of Ron Perlman and a few minutes of Rose McGowan. In pretty much every other way: story, characters, acting, music, etc. the Arnold movie is still the far more enjoyable version.

I realize that the newer one might be technically more true to the source material, but just in terms of "a movie worth watching" it was ultimately (and perhaps sadly) forgettable compared to the original.

If you feel guilty about lusting after her in the Conan movie you could always switch to the Star Trek episode because I think she might have actually been an adult at that point.

Well I'm guessing the Devs didn't put them in this SSA -just- to give heroes a way to get Gangbuster.
I'm sure it was just a coincidence.

But I suppose if one were truly masochistic this would be a new outlet for those kinds of feelings.

I can only really level two criticisms at the mini. Namely some of the backgrounds were clearly painted set pieces (in the sietch particularly) and the lack of stillsuit discipline/water barrier usage amongst the Fremen.
Like I said I can only assume I can't agree with you on most of these points because I can barely remember watching the mini-series much less liking it. I don't usually forget things out-of-hand that I consider worthwhile.

I suppose it may just boil down to the idea that a little bit of Patrick Stewart makes up for a lot of otherwise mediocre mini-series content.

Yeah until a Dev tells us otherwise I'm pretty much convinced these are effectively random and weighted equally. Out of 6 runs so far I'm sitting at 13/16 and unlike you I've seen ones like Jurassik and Deathsurge at least twice each. Too bad we couldn't rack up the ones we've seen more than once and trade them amongst each other.

The SciFi mini series was just awesome. And add in that they did Dune Messiah/Children of Dune with Prof X from First Class. I really wish they would've done God Emperor, Heretics, and Chapterhouse as well.
I'm willing to accept that the SyFy mini-series did far more justice to the source material than the 1984 movie did. Obviously at the very least it was able to cover more material with a longer overall running time.

But if you compare the 1984 movie to the mini-series directly (without considering the novel) then I'd have to say the movie was far more entertaining and memorable than the mini-series. The Dune movie had many of the "over-the-top" cult qualities that made many 80s-era movies superior to the numerous forgettable remakes since then.

Let's put it this way: if you offered me a free DVD copy of either the 1984 movie or the mini-series I'd take the movie without second thought. I know that I saw the mini-series years ago but it was so uninspiring I can barely even remember it at this point. *shrugs*
