Quote:Then again if they tried for an August 30th launch they'd have around 3.5 days to decide whether it was epically buggy enough for a rollback or not before the weekend. That seems like enough time to me.I'd be surprised if Freedom launched the week before a 3-day holiday weekend, but I wouldn't necessarily be disappointed (unless it was really buggy at launch). I think a more realistic release date would be September 6.

Quote:That's a pretty big indicator. Why would they discontinue the sales of their Booster Packs unless they expected the Paragon Market to be up and running by then?More potential evidence for early Sept. release-
Look at https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/St...ory&category=2
Specifically the boosters, and how they all say "available until August 29th".

Quote:Well clearly the people organizing these communities will decide they'd be better off if they employed hyper-expensive robotic defenders that would be easier to "control" and wouldn't have to be paid. Then of course as we've learned from decades of science fiction those "robotic defenders" will eventually develop AI, kill everyone in the floating community, then move on to kill everyone else on the planet. Skynet has to start somewhere after all. What's to stop said security force from realizing that they could just, ya know, take everything from those rich guys? I mean, unless there's a kill-switch implanted in them to enforce loyalty, it seems like it's a no-lose scenario for those guys.
It's recipe for lulz on an epic scale. Bunch of rich guys who've probably never actually worked for a living with a bunch of armed and dangerous peons (to them).

I think the only reason we "need" to go to a trainer to switch builds is to prevent us from switching builds right in the middle of a fight. I could see how that could be a little unfair, especially in a PvP situation. But if they created a dedicated "change_build" command line command they could just put limits on it like "can't be used in PvP zones" and "can't be used more than once every 10 minutes" or whatever other controls they deemed necessary to make it balanced.

Traditionally whenever an Issue moves to open beta it usually goes live within 3 or 4 weeks. I think the "evidence" of the CoH sale and the Ski Chalet simply adds to that.

It'd be amazing if they could get this launched by August 30th to make it by Labor Day weekend. But more realistically speaking I'd say the 13th or 20th of September is a good bet at this point. -
This is why these "floating utopias" usually mandate that their residents already be ultra-wealthy. They want all the comforts of living in a moderately sized country while also limiting the population of that "country" to only a few hundred people. Ironically these "I'm too cool to pay taxes" visionaries will likely pay millions for the privilege of living somewhere that supposedly doesn't levy all those yucky taxes against them.

Well for what it's worth I wouldn't mind the ability to link a specific build to a specific costume slot. It might be cool for example to create a "PvP costume" and then when I switch to it I would automatically switch to my "PvP build" as well. Getting a feature like that is probably far more likely than getting 10 builds on one character at any rate.
-
Quote:There's nothing wrong with liking all those combinations. But the "simple workaround" to not being able to have 10 builds on a single character is to make several Dark/Regens to spread all those build ideas out on.I would dearly love to be able to switch her build between each mission without having to spend a respec
The Devs have already made it pretty clear they don't really want people to have a single character that can "do everything". This is why (for instance) they've told us we will likely never get the ability to respec powerset choices. They don't want people taking a level 50 character and turning it into -any- kind of powerset combo you want. I figure the same mindset applies for having more builds than the few we already have.
The idea of having something like a "PvE build" and a "PvP build" makes sense because the rules for how the powers work are actually different in those environments. But I really don't think the multiple build concept was ever intended to be a mechanism to allow a single character to have access to every power pool combination possible. You've pushed it to the limit - be thankful they even gave us the ability to have more than one build per character in the first place. -
Quote:They've opened up the Ski Chalet during other non-winter times that had nothing to do with "unscheduled maintenances".So essentially, a Ski trip is gonna be the standard apology/gift each time we have several unscheduled maintenances in the same week?

I think it was just a coincidence in this case. *shrugs* -
Quote:No wonder a single candy cane is being sold for over 2 million.Wow I've got a few thousand of those things racked up across all my characters. I bought a bunch when people were dumping them for like 10k after the last winter event. Maybe I should toss them back on the market now...Quote:Last I checked there were only about 200 candy canes left on the market.

Quote:It's generally accepted that at least part of the reason why we've never had an offical standalone costume creator for the NA/EU versions of this game (the Korean version -did- have one) is that it was a conseqence of the Marvel lawsuit. By only allowing costume creation inside the game they can supposedly better police/prevent people from making Wolverine clones or somesuch. And people would still like to be able to have an offline character creator so that we don't have to log in to the game just to be able to tinker with the costumes.
Imagine all the time we'd lose if they finally made this available to us after all these years.
Well, I wouldn't lose much time, but some of you folks certainly would.
I have to wonder if Arbiter Fabulous would ever log in to the actual game again.
Regardless of the details the bottomline is that the chances of us ever getting another standalone costume creator at this point is just about zero. Sad as that is it does at least save us from -wasting- that much more time with costume tinkering...

Yeah I'm in the same situation with the Flyposes - I don't usually like to be locked into just one.

I use a keybind like MaestroMavius' to accomplish that. I tried cramming the emote together with the Fly and/or Forward key (like Aggelakis and Stone Daemon suggested) but I noticed that sometimes with server lag the combo wouldn't work cleanly. That's why I started using a separate flypose bind key. This allows me the freedom to use any pose I want or even not use them at all if desired. -
Quote:Back during the Beta when that ship was added to the game I actually submitted a petition to suggest that the roadway next to that ship/helicopter be edited because there was no realistic way any US Navy ship would be "crammed up" into such a tight space with power lines so close like that. It's not only a safety hazard but a security one as well.In IP right above the helicopter next to Admiral Sutter are POWER LINES. Doesn't seem like there ought to be power lines above a helicopter.
Obviously they didn't bother to listen to me...

As the others have said Sleep in this game may not be useful in every situation, but in the situations it -is- useful for it's almost indispensable. You have to accept that a Sleep Mezzer is a fairly specialized type of character and you have to spend a little more effort minimizing its weaknesses to maximize its strengths. You may find that you simply don't like to play a Sleeper and that's fine. But just because you don't like how they play doesn't mean they need buffs of any kind.

Quote:My guess is even though you've been adventurous enough to try 30+ different builds/respecs of a Dark/Regen character that you were going through that process as an evolution to decide what "worked best" for you. Given all that you now know with your intimate knowledge of those powersets I suspect you would really only seriously play the last 2 or 3 latest/best builds you've ever come up with. For instance would you ever likely play with a build you created a few years ago without Inherent Fitness?Uh, yeah, in the past 7 years I've gotten more than 30 significantly different and enjoyable/playable builds just with my Dark/Regen and fluctuating her power pools and epic pools....
so forgive me if I find 10 builds less than daunting save in terms of expense
Although your idea sounds good "on paper" in practical terms I really doubt anyone would seriously/regularly use more than maybe 3 or 4 builds tops. I'm not strictly against this idea, but I do think allowing for 10 builds seems far less useful than it might first appear. -
Quote:So...if you were a pirate, it would be a pretty good place to start your career.
Who's with me?I think we can be sure that if one of these things actually happens they will have a "security force" that will be better armed and trained than most other countries' entire armed forces. Think "Blackwater" times 100.Quote:Honestly though I kinda envy these people, I just hope for their sake they have a pancake ton of guns and ammo and RPGs and well their own small army.

Quote:Given that they can create "recoiless rifles" with today's technology I would think the ability to create a recoiless futuristic weapon based on any kind of "beam" you want would be almost trivial and fundamental by comparison. In fact if anyone had to suffer a real life hand-helded beam weapon that recoiled I'd think that would be a pointless failure of design. Might as well use a M-16 if that were the case - it'd probably cost a 100x less to boot.Nope. It's a reaction to the ejection of mass (i.e. the bullet and combustion waste gases) from the muzzle of the gun, in accordance with Newton's Third Law of Motion. It has nothing to do with the combustion of the gunpowder, except insofar as that's what produces the gas and propels the bullet. If it were something else doing the propelling - electromagnets, say, or compressed air - there would still be recoil. So-called "recoilless" weapons compensate for their recoil by directing the waste gases in the opposite direction, but physically speaking it's still there.

Quote:I guess these islands would be kind of like the upper class "cruise ship" versions of that.Ha, free from laws, regulations, and moral codes, no welfare, looser building codes, no minimum wage, and few restrictions on weapons doesn't that kind of sound like every third world country that we have now?

Most people have their favorite servers they like to play on. If a character name is so important to you that you're willing to play on -any- server to get it then I guess this would be cool. I'm just not sure how many people this would apply to.
-
I've read about plans for these "floating independent countries" before and the basic idea is most of them supposedly will only let you live there if you're worth like 100 million dollars or more. I suppose it'd be pretty easy to live in a "Libertarian Utopia" if you're already super-wealthy.

Quote:You and I both know that someone, somewhere would scream bloody murder if they ever bought a token that at some point was either taken away by the system or was otherwise rendered unusable.Simple. In this scenario they can't hold onto a token. It's a service that has to be used when it is bought.

Again I'm looking at it from a "use versus utility" point of view. If you figure there would (very likely) only ever be a few hundred SG renames needed why would the Devs bother making an entirely new token to handle that? They wouldn't have to worry about a "token" and the rules related to how it would work if they didn't bother having SG rename tokens in the first place.Quote:If it's done as a token why wouldn't a player be able to carry an unused token? We can carry respec tokens, costume change tokens, etc. As long as it can only be used if the person is flagged as a Super Leader who cares.
Basically coming up with a unique SG rename token is a complete overkill of effort for the problem at hand. You're proposing a 15 bedroom mansion for a situation that only needs a 2 bedroom apartment. The Devs would probably even favor a "quiet" command line command solution from the point of view of keeping SG renames to a minimum. If they made a flashy SG rename token available in the upcoming Paragon Market then everyone would be encouraged to do it on a relative whim. By keeping it "under the radar" with an available yet unflashy command line command then the few people who really wanted it could get it and the Devs wouldn't have to spend any extra time messing around with it. A simple timer that would only allow one rename for a SG per month is the only "control mechanism" you'd need for this. -
The greatness of the costume creator in this game is the reason why among all the other cool changes coming with Issue 21 the one that'll allow us to unlock 5 more costume slots per character is easily one of the best ones for me. There have been so many times I've wanted to have "helmet/no helmet" versions of costumes or other variations that I couldn't quite accomplish or justify with only the original 5 slots. Getting more slots to work with is going to make things much easier.

I'm planning to "solve" this problem by not intending to move any of my existing characters to the new VIP server. Most of my important characters have been on the servers they are on for years now - I see no incredibly pressing need to transfer them. Many of those characters have long time seniority in various SGs for what that's worth.
I'll probably make some new characters on the VIP server, and when I get around to doing that I'll get whatever names are available at that point.

What happens when a SG Super Leader buys one of these supposed SG rename tokens while they are a Super Leader then for some reason doesn't try to use it until they are no longer Super Leader? Why would a non Super Leader be able to hold onto one of these tokens? There's all these "what-if" problems they'd have to deal with trying to make a SG rename something that's related to money and/or the rename token concept.
You've got to remember that the ability to rename a SG is never going to be as wide-spread or common as a typical character rename. There's really no point in the Devs trying to "institutionalize" it as a fully-fledged rename token that's going to make them any serious money at all. I'd be surprised if this feature, whatever form it takes, was ever used more than a few hundred times total. If this feature -ever- happens it's going to be done in a way that's far simpler and takes the least amount of Dev effort to accomplish. They aren't likely going to make a whole new type of token for it or change any GUIs. A command line command only usable by a Super Leader on a simple timer fits the bill perfectly.
