problemic power lines

In IP right above the helicopter next to Admiral Sutter are POWER LINES. Doesn't seem like there ought to be power lines above a helicopter.

Wavicle, Energy/Energy Blaster, dinged 50 in Issue 4, summer of 2005.
@Wavicle, mostly on the Justice server.

It's OK, though, that helicopter doesn't actually have rotor blades. It's just a mockup to fool Arachnos.

Back during the Beta when that ship was added to the game I actually submitted a petition to suggest that the roadway next to that ship/helicopter be edited because there was no realistic way any US Navy ship would be "crammed up" into such a tight space with power lines so close like that. It's not only a safety hazard but a security one as well.

Obviously they didn't bother to listen to me...

Aircraft aren't allowed to take off or land on a ship docked in port. In fact on US military vessels aircraft are transferred to an airbase before the ship docks and return once the ship puts out to sea.

Lothics correct on the safety issue.

While we're proposing touches of realism concerning the helicopters, let's have characters that jump, fly, or fall into the rotors get shredded. Hit fly without looking up? BZZT! Red mist!

Or how about deadening the music and SFX if your character stands under the rotors too long to simulate them going deaf from prolonged exposure to REALLY LOUD helicopter rotors. The long you stick around, the more permanent the change.

And while we're at it, let's have standing on power lines zap a character with electricity for 5,000 points of Energy damage. ZZAPP!

At this rate, we could have a badge:

1,001 Embarrassing Ways to Die - And you somehow blundered into them all. Seriously, how many ways can a superhero eat it in this city?!

Standing on a power line is not in itself lethal. Birds do it all the time. Touching the line and the pole at the same time, that's what gets you. It's like that old saying about falling vs. the sudden stop at the end.

I've long thought we needed:

Slowhand - You've been defeated x times with your cursor on a green Inspiration or healing power. Work on that reaction time a little.

Obviously it's a bit meta, but we all know we'd have it on a bunch of our characters by now.

Or how about:

Cherry Tapped - You have been defeated x times by foes four or more levels below you. Keep up the good work; a few more times, and you'll qualify for a handicap placard.

Conversely:

Colorblind - You have been defeated by x enemies you had no business engaging. Can you not see the purple names, or do you just like making floor angels?

Actually that's been tested and disproven. Chopper rotors cannot truly shred a human being. While they will in fact make quite a mess of you, they'll also destroy themselves in the process.

Then again, CoX in general runs more on Rule of Cool than realism.

Whether chopper rotors would liquefy a human or just dice them into several nasty chucks either way there's NO way we'd get something like that in this Teen rated game. We barely even have any examples of blood much less bodies getting mutilated. Sure it might be cool to get a "physics realistic" version of this game someday. But don't hold your breath for it.

Just imagine the doctor's reactions after you hit the medical teleporter...

Nurse: "We have another incoming hero doctor!"
Doctor: "Alright stations ever-
(A chopped up pile of bloody meat pops up in the teleporter)
Doctor: "...ah, NEVERMIND. Another guy wasn't watching where he flew. Call the coroner and we'll see if he can make heads or tails of this."
