126 costumes so far. I think I spend half as much time playing with the costume editor as I do playing City of Heroes.
-
Yeah, I know they're already customizable and have been for years, but I've got some things I'd like to see regardless. These are suggestions I'd want to see applied to Masterminds as much as I would Blasters, Corruptors, and Defenders.
1. Give the different rifle/pistol types their own unique sounds/attack animations (where applicable).
We can get Council, Family, and Nemesis rifles in the game, but when they're in our hands, they don't behave like they would in the hands of their original owners. I haven't been around Vanguard soldiers enough to see if this also applies to the Vanguard Redding Rifle(s).
Regardless, I'd love it if each pistol and rifle type had its own sounds and effects, matching either whatever weapons they're based on in real life, or whatever they would do in the hands of the enemy group that uses them.
To illustrate what I mean ... the Legacy Assault Rifle (and its color tintable version) could retain its sound and behavior set as the "baseline," except extend those same sounds to Masterminds with a Mercenaries powerset, when they're using a Legacy Assault Rifle.
The sounds used for Burst/Slug/M30 in a Mastermind's Mercenaries powerset could then be applied to one of the other gun models. Maybe the Military Assault Rifle model?
For the Tommy Gun, it would have the same sounds as the Tommy Guns used by the Family, where applicable of course.
Same with the Council Assault Weapons, except have a Council Assault Weapon in a player's hands also use the laser blast sound effect and the laser beam effect for the Sniper Rifle power. (Mind you, I'm only talking about the graphical/audible effects here, not the game mechanics of it!)
And of course, same with Nemesis rifles--in the hands of a player, have them make the same sounds and graphical effects of a rifle in the hands of a Nemesis soldier.
2. Add Praetorian Resistance rifles and pistols to powerset customization.
While also giving them the same treatment as mentioned above--having them graphically and audibly behave as they would in the hands of Resistance NPCs.
You could even use the Praetorian Clockwork's plasma spray effect to replace the regular AR's flamethrower! -
What I'd like to see? Make it so that if you craft a temp power you already have, it adds additional uses.
Quote:One man's garbage is another man's treasure. You're arguing from a thematic perspective, so let me make some counterarguments:Please no.
There is already too much garbage on the reward tables for recipe drops.
You got a hand grenade, congratz, you're a mage. What are you going to do with that?
Oh I'm a Blaster and I got Gabriel's Hammer, great.
A....revolver? I have super powers, no thanks.
A baseball bat? Seriously?
etc. etc. etc.
You have a Rambo-type character. You want to, thematically, be able to use heavy weapons, but the best you can get for a power set is Assault Rifle, which wouldn't satisfy as much as, say, a chain gun or rocket launcher (like what 5th Column and Destroyers use).
Or maybe your character is meant to be both a skilled martial artist and swordfighter, but you can only pick one of those as a powerset. On the other hand, if you picked up Martial Arts and used a temporary katana you could change that.
Or, maybe your character is a streetwise street fighter and you want to be able to use a whole lot of different weapons to reflect your character's "anything I can get my hands on" mentality. Baseball bats, sledgehammers, rocks and throwing knives are perfect for that.
My only real beef with the craftable temporary powers is that you can't stock up on charges, you have to wait until your power is fully depleted until you can craft another. Meanwhile, the recipe is taking up personal or auction inventory space. -

Quote:I think what we need is a special window to pop up, like in the Praetorian zone events. That window would have a button in it. That button would say "Send Next Wave". If everyone on the team clicks the button, it spawns the next wave. If a team needs the time, they have it. If the team wants a real challenge, they click like mad and get all the spawns piling on top of each other. With the exception of people who don't want any more new windows popping up on their screen, this has the possibility to please everyone.Quote:That said, if there were a "voting" mechanism in place, or something the team leader can pick to skip the timer and - assuming the current spawn is defeated - spawn the next wave *now* instead of 2-3 minutes from now, I wouldn't argue.
A few nights ago I wound up doing a Terra Volta respec trial for the first time (same day that Kurrent did, though probably just a coincidence). I was struck by how long it took between waves. The wait seemed more than enough to let everyone get themselves ready for the next wave; until this thread, I wasn't aware that additional waves used to hit in what are now the lulls between waves.
But anyway, yeah. Johnstone's got the right idea. I hope the devs take him up on this! -
Quote:Belated, but I just now saw those (I've not done the Lambda Sector trial, and my flagship Praetorian just entered Neutropolis today)--yeah, I'd like to see those made enemies, too!Make it so, number one. And also, there are tanks parked on the Lambda Sector, maybe they can be used as well?
Come to think of it, those military vehicles don't see a lot of action, do they? They look to be very similar to the models used in Vanguard and Shadow Shard military areas, and I think the only time I've ever seen those actually fighting is when they're stationary, and have a Turret entity as their top half. -
Quote:That's precisely what's happening. If it's the behaviour I think he's talking about, it'll go all the way through looking like you're actually bidding, THEN reject it - I'm not sure about that 'duplicate bid' bit, though.
The duplicate bid is more like an accidental second bid even though you only have one slot in your market inventory for a bid. When that happens, you get told your inventory is full and you can't get the item, leading to the same problem. -
I don't know how common this problem is for anyone else, but it's driven me up a wall.
For some reason, you can still make bids at a market (Wentworth's/Black Market/Trading House/Underground Market) even if your market inventory is already full. This normally wouldn't be so much of a problem, except that if you do buy an item with that bid, you're told your inventory is full and you can't get the item.
... And you also are not allowed to re-bid on the same item even if you do clear up inventory space and try again. Your bid will show up on the list, but even if it's the exact same item you were trying to buy for the same price and no one else has bidded on it, the system will act as if your bid isn't there.
You either have to wait a while before the system recognizes your bid, relog, or both. And by that time, whatever it was you could have bought has likely already been bought by someone else, at least for the price you were bidding.
The problem is, at least for me, it's really easy to forget your auction inventory is full. I've also had a few cases where, attempting to place a bid on an object, a duplicate bid is made that causes the auction inventory to fill up and thus prevent me from actually getting the item.
It would be nice that if your auction inventory is full, the "Bidding" tab goes red and won't let you place any more bids until you free up inventory slot. It'd be much less annoying than forgetting your inventory is full and getting denied the ability to bid on an item you want or need. -
Quote:It would be nice if it was triggered by a Task Force or some other player action, though I didn't think of any ideas on what might trigger it ... but since Lady Grey's Task Force came out in the same issue as Rikti Invasion zone events, I would say it should have a trigger!Out of curiosity, would these be random occurances or triggered by something like how finishing a LGTF triggers a rikti invasion event? If the former, how often? And if the latter, triggered by what?
I'd love it either way, but there are these little details to consider. -
I don't play AE all that much, and when it comes to making AE arcs ... I've toyed with it, but never published anything. After seeing how sophisticated Praetorian story arcs are, I've been left wanting that same level of control over mission events in AE. I'd love to have NPCs to interact with, or the ability to have specify exactly what I want to have where.
Heck, I've played so few AE arcs, and mostly only the ones that seem like involving stories, that I'm not even really sure what constitutes AE farming. Though reading through a few pages of this, I do agree that the system needs some updating. Something should really be done to separate the farms from missions that actually try to tell a story, however silly or serious it might be. That'd be the first major step, I think.
The devs probably didn't want AE to turn into a farm, but the majority of MMO players pick the path of least resistance, and focus on efficiency. So, if the farmers are given a way to filter out anything that isn't a farm from the get-go, maybe it will stop them from downvoting anything that isn't a farm. -
Quote:Weird. I actually hadn't heard of any complaints about the Steampunk Pack faces until this thread, and that includes one of the guys I know who won the Steampunk Pack in the post-Freedom Surge.
Except most people cited the SP faces as being creepy and dicing into the uncanny valley by looking too waxy and abnormal.
Everyone I'd seen who commented on the faces thought they were a lot better. -
One thing I'd want to see is slightly less restrictions on what can and can't be worn with certain clothing combinations. Some clothing options disallow other costume pieces on principle, even when certain options wouldn't cause clipping.
For example, if you've chosen to make your Trench Coat sleeves short (or have none at all), why can't you then pick from the whole gamut of gloves? (Come to think of it, I'd like to see a short non-tattered trench coat sleeve, too.)
Things like that.
Quote:Having seen how the Steampunk Pack's faces (which use normal mapping) dramatically improved the quality and appearance of characters without actually increasing the polycount, I think one of the major improvements to the game would be to add normal maps to a lot of textures, but specifically certain costume parts, especially anything that's low-res already (like, say, character ears ... there's a glaring difference in texture quality between the face and the ear, especially if it's a Steampunk Pack face).i would ask for a poly count increase for character heads to make the faces look less flat and the characters more 3D, but i dunno how much it would effect ppl's machine or how bad things can get with the games engine
The only parts that I think could really use an increase of polys are the hands (everyone's complained about the paws), and maybe the face after all, if only because the cheeks look like they could fit on the prow of an icebreaker. However, again, normal mapping really did the trick in the Steampunk Pack. -
Quote:You could have left out the jab about measurements of distance. It's not like the U.S. is the only Western country whose people think in traditional measurements, y'know.Im not having a go at America or that the game is set in America but ppl saying there is not enough American content may want to take a step back and have another look.
Quote:Im pretty sure the term "statesman" isnt exclusive to the US...
While it can be open to interpretation, Most Americans dont refer to themselves as "from the states" We just call ourselves Americans. So states-man wouldnt make sense in that context to most people living in Paragon.
Besides, as a patriotic "Captain Nationality" type guy, we all know Statesman is a homage to certain heroes. City of Heroes is a celebration of everything about the superhero genre, so it's pretty obvious.
Anyway, I'm probably contributing to the derailment this thread by replying to both of you, so to put this back on track:
Quote:I also wouldnt mind an American Western themed pack.
More cowboy hats.
A Sombrero.
Buckskin clothes.
Leather Tassells ( on pants, shirts, etc. - similar to what is currently on a short cape )
Western Chest Emblems ( Coyote, Wolf, Mustang, Bullet, Pistol, Cactus, etc. )
More cowboy boots that dont look quite as silly as the current cowboy boots.
A Western Cloggin' Dance emote.
A "Twirl the Lasso" emote.
Combine this with the above suggested American Indian costume pieces, it would be a nice thematic set.
The suggestions by Cptn_Courageous are a good idea, too, as are zachary_EU's ideas. A Raygun Gothic pack would be awesome.
As an aside, I hope more released content uses the normal mapping technique they've used for the Steampunk Pack faces. It really makes a difference! -
I could totally see some Golden Age-style pulp Vanguard vs. Rikti comics!
-
First off, let me say: The Pratorian Surge invason was REALLY fun. Probably the best part was being able to talk smack with the Praetors.
Though during the invasion, there was something I noticed ...
... Life as usual went on in Paragon City and Rogue Isles during the invasions. An army of Goliath War Walkers wasn't enough to convnce the street gangs and citizens to run for cover.
That got me thinking: Now that Emperor Cole is on the war path, why not introduce random Praetorian Invasion zone events, like Rikti Invasions? Use similar protocol to make citizens and enemy groups run for cover, sound the alarms. Then the portals open, like they did during the Surge, and the invasion begins!
The military vehicles I've seen in Praetorian warehouses could be used in these! Drop ships could be replaced with fighter jets that bomb and strafe targets not under cover. Instead of hunting defective bombs, attack helicopters could provide the IDF close air support. War Walkers and Goliath War Walkers could replace the Rikti Heavy Assault Suits that show up when a certain threshold of destruction is achieved.
As far as rewards, given these are Praetorians and a lot of Incarnate content involves Praetorian stuff, it could be a great way to provide alternate sources of Incarnate XP and drops. An accolade power and badge set would always be awesome, too, though I'm not sure what would be good. (I will say that, especially for my low level characters, Elusive Mind has been REALLY good at surviving psionic enemies like Madness Mages, Fortunatas, and the Lost.)
What do you guys think? -
Quote:If anything, I'd like to see an option where the intensity of stuff like particle counts reduces according to the amount of people in your vicinity, and how much those reductions apply to yourself, your team, and your league, separately.Have you tried lowering your particle count all the way down? Not only does that provide much eyeball relief but it has the secondary benefit of improving your overall system performance.
Like, have an option that lets you set how much the particle counts fall off per person, and how much they don't fall off if they're coming from your enemies, yourself, your teammates' powers, and so on. -
Quote:You got my /sign.I'd like to see an emote where the character stands, reading a comic book. I mean, you'd think they'd be pretty widespread in a city of heroes!
Quote:I'd think there'd be fewer, considering real heroes fight real evil every day in Paragon. I mean, how popular are comics about anti-terrorism activities in the Middle East in real life?Quote:Actually, a bit a fridge brilliance: That's because there IS NO Superhero genre!
And have you seen most of the storefronts and advertisements in Paragon City? There's a lot of plays on superherodom there. For example, "Super power bargains everyday! PriceCo.," "El Super Mexicano," "Up-N-Away Burger," and "Super Lanes" (complete with heroine kicking a strike), just to name a few. Or heck, even Chris Jenkins' billboards asking people if they've been injured in superpower-related conflicts.
Oh, and there's a funny blurb from the Halloween event salvage that reminds me of this topic:
"The most popular Halloween costume among the kids in Paragon City is that of Hamidon. This simple costume is made from coloured plastic wrap. Many kids like to put action figures of their favourite heroes inside the wrap, pretending they are 'raiding' for 'Hami-O's'"
If we're popular enough to have our own action figures, we're probably popular enough to have our own comic books! And I want to read my own comics! -
I'd hope for this as more general powerset proliferation/powerset customization than anything, but yes.

Quote:Well, a temporary travel power that doesn't have any technological bits in it wouldn't be all that hard to make, I think. Besides, there are multiple ways of traveling between zones that don't rely on ferries or trams; the Day Trader/Marketeer teleporter, Ouroboros, Supergroup portals, the Mac Edition mission teleporter and the Pocket D VIP teleporter ...But why should this bug you any more than them getting on the train to go between zones? Or (yeah, can't do this in game, but work with me) getting into a car to get to the store? Magic *themed,* after all, doesn't need to mean "can't touch anything mechanical at all."
I RP a fair bit, but just don't "get" that. *shrug*
Anyway! Yeah, sign me on for this, too. We've been seeing a lot of new craftable temporary powers of late, and a "charm" that works like a Jet Pack would be great for the non-tech savvy characters.
Brooms would be an interesting idea, too, but I imagine that'd take a considerable amount of doing to get it to look right. -
I don't know how much my opinion will be worth considering I don't have any 50's (despite how long I've played!) and won't be seeing Incarnate stuff for a long while, but I will admit hearing about this problem intimidates me considering that the vast majority of my characters deal Smash/Lethal damage and would be excluded from Master of Lambda trials.
Setting wise, is Marauder supposed to be Praetorian Earth's unbeatable champion at Smash/Lethal fighting? Like, he eats armor-piercing rounds for breakfast while throwing tanks around in a game of horsehoes?
The reason I ask is because--if that's so--the devs probably won't be keen on nerfing him to let the Smash/Lethal guys have a shot at him.
But what if Master of Lambda's requirements were changed so that there was an objective that would be best handled by a Smash/Lethal damage type character without making it exclusively vulnerable to that damage type?
Modify it so that everyone has an optimally useful role in the trial, without necessarily making any of it easier?
(I have absolutely no idea what Lambda Sector involves other than hearing that Marauder is completely invulnerable to Smash/Lethal damage. I realize I've probably put my foot in my mouth here.) -
Quote:Sure do! I've uploaded it to my own site. I just had to find out the artist's name, so I could give credit where credit is due.Do you have a bigger pic of this? Those gloves look very interesting, but they smudge between the pixels.
EDIT: ... And in the time it took me to find that out, Airborne_Ninja uploaded the same image to Photobucket then posted it.
Curses, foiled again!
Oh well, I'll make my post worthwhile with a Tom Clancy quote:
"If Kim Basinger was a plane, this [the F-22] is what she'd be." -
I wonder how my 8800GT will hold up. With City of Heroes, I play it with almost all the settings turned up high, save for the resolution--I keep that at 1024x768. Saves on screenshot file sizes (I take THOUSANDS of them. No lie!).
I'll be doing the same thing with Ultra Mode, depending on how badly my computer takes a hit. I've got a single Intel Kentsfield Quadcore Q6600 and 4 GB of RAM ... Hopefully I can still run the game well. I know Left 4 Dead 2 plays great, at least! -
-
Quote:Yeah, but doesn't it also depend on the types of characters at each banner?Having 1 player at every banner is often sufficient to make banners vulnerable in 2-5 minutes. Most of failures I've witnessed were related to lack of DPS/buffs/debuffs to take down banners fast enough. Rads and kins contribute a lot to success at that stage.
In any of the Deadly Apocalypse events, I've not been able to handle a single banner myself. Then again, none of my characters are above level 35, and only one of them (me) is above level 25. Maybe I'm just not yet at the point where I can handle the DA mobs. -
