    Brawl for Brutes

    [ QUOTE ]
I'll probably consider resting if my end is below 20% or my health is below 30% and Dull Pain isn't ready.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wuss

if your end is below 20%, switch off your shields. Trust in the drop fairy and you'll be okay.

I have my entire build planned up to 40. I think I end up with 6 Damage enh....

    Brawl for Brutes

Sorry, I didn't make mayself clear - I normally lead off with total focus (especially if there's a boss in the group).

Having brawl on auto means there's always an attack going off and I don't have to mash buttons so much. Plus fury builds a lot faster that way. Didn't mean to suggest you use brawl instead of anything else...
  3. No, it is resting.

    Pining for the Prof even.

    But definately not dead.

((No one on when I log on as well, although a fair few people have made the same complaint, making me think we all play odd hours. Although any VG where my alt can move up the rankings is a little strange...))
  4. I don't think they are less popular than I expected pre-release....

Controllers were one of the least popular COH ATs (I think they tied with defenders). Split that population into shiny pet wrangler (that also solos really well) and something with the control aspect and mediocre damage (compared to most other ATs, at the lower levels) and it is roughly what I'd expect. That being said, I've been on teams where I've parked my corruptor/brute because ... dagnabbit, we need a dominator for this ...

They really only shine in large teams where they split huge sized mobs into bite sized chunks (they can certainly be effective elsewhere, but every time I've had team mates actually rave about my dominator it has been in huge pitched battles where half the room get locked/slept/pushed away). I expect once they get into the 30s, things get a lot better. Anyone who played a controller in COH pre-I (4?5?) and containment knows what that is like...

EDIT: the damage feels mediocre, apart from when in domination. It averages out to about the same but doesn't feel that way (to me at least). I imagine at higher levels it all comes together beautifully but after soloing a controller (mainly) up to 32 pre-containment, I'll stick with SMASHing things solo unless there's a good team going ... in which case my dominator is my favourite villain.

    Brawl for Brutes

Did a quick little search for this in Brutes + Guides and found nothing (which means someone will post with a link in less time than I spent searching), so here goes...

Based on a comment on a guide on the US boards, I put brawl as my auto power (hold down Ctrl and click on it, it should be highlighted with a green circle). It makes a massive difference to fury generation. I have half a bar after a small mob and am running on full from the second fight right up until I run out of endurance, enemies or luck.

Full fury + Total Focus = Happy Camper
  6. PvP could be more imbalanced. They could remove the one advantage to being a stalker and then no one would play them .

Yes stalkers target squishies. I do too with my controller/tanker/corruptor/brute. Because they are squishy.

My controller and tanker have no problems with stalkers in Sirens (apart from them carrying break frees and running away). Yes, they need to carry breakfrees when they meet my tanker. Confuses the [censored] out of people (not like he can tank any more, so I respecced him - nnot for PvP but more PvP friendly)

My tanker has actually stormed the beachhead in Sirens ... took about 10 villains to take him down but they did. Any stalker that can get through the ice slick and burn patch is welcome to try and take me out ... so they go find something easier. Like you. Or my controller (they wish).

PvP seems to be a massive game of 'paper, rock, scissors' and when I find a build I have no chance against (/regen scrappers are the bane of my existance) I either move on, run away or try to team with someone that can tear through the offending opponent.

I'm not particularly PvP built, nor am I that good at it. Both Hobojack and ProfC have torn me a new one when I've tried it...

I've also had good days in PvP (even numbers and people relog to rebalance the sides if one side gets too much of an advantage) and very bad days (massive imbalance in sides, or me as a hero and 7 stalkers in zone). I tend to leave on the bad days.

There are several ways to mitigate stalkers, some of which you have available to you. As to the comment 'they just fly away afterwards', if the rest of your team were on the ball, they'd get at least one hit in with a stun, or a hold, or a ... you see where I'm going with this? They have to come into melee range with you, so someone should be able to get some retaliation in (not much comfort to you I admit). The fact they didn't (from your description) makes it sound like you just didn't have your team all working together.

The fact that some of these people live in Sirens and have PvP geared builds does make it difficult, but I'm not a big fan of 'making everybody equal so nobody can lose and we all live in a fluffy happy place'. If someone is good at PvP, has an advantage over me due to powerset mismatches I expect them to use it ... I would. If they do it repeatedly I might just send them a /tell after a while saying 'yes, very good, aren't you bored yet?'. In fact, I did that last week and the energy blaster involved went and found fresh meat..

As others have said, it does sound a little like sour grapes. Give it another try on another day and you may have a better experience with it. Although I can almost guarantee stalkers will specifically target you now ... now they know how much you appreciate it

Oh and happy birthday Syn. Yes, people born in December rock.

P.S. I am not a stalker (no matter what the restraining order says), nor do I play one on tv...
  7. To be slightly more forthcoming ... flares are t3h suxx0r ...

I was put off them on my fire/dev in the states nearly 2 years ago now... they leave you rooted for an ungodly amount of time compared to the rest of the set. I tried them recently on my fire/kin and they still sucked. YMMV.

I don't like them, if they work for you then good luck to you...
  8. Well I'm here.... all on my ownsome.... not too many vines either...
  9. will attempt to be there @ 20:00, weather + transport permitting.
  10. I would like to do this, but have an appointment @ 12:15 - so I may be a little late.

In fact, I held a Hero with the help of another Ice Corruptor. Didn't last long,

    [/ QUOTE ]

    But it doesn't need to
  12. I know how it works in theory, that's one of the reasons I chose the build ...

I'm just going off what the "PvP PROS" on the US board say... can't say I noticed it slowing me down in Siren's Call last night... plenty of other people yes, but not me.

I think it is because most of the interesting powers require a to hit ... and they aren't that easy to come by in PvP... I'm hoping that popular opinion is wrong (even if it isn't, I have great fun playing the build)
  13. [ QUOTE ]
although you need a corner to push enemies into otherwise you'll be running all over the place

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not always. much fun can be had pushing enemies off tall buildings, cliffs or, (in one strike force at least) into a pit of lava. Domination+Powerboost+Telekenesis=silly.
Plus it is a great PvP power (if your inclinations run that way).

Mind or Ice would both be great, Plant may be but haven't played it high enough.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
i would say corrupters are the least PvP friendly AT out there

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not even close. I was in Siren's Call last night and I took down more than I was taken down - scrappers, blasters, controllers, defenders (no tanks, weren't any on, although I don't think I'd have fancied my chances). Regen scrapper pwned me, although I was 22 SK'ed up and I think he was 50 exemped down... but given I couldn't squeeze in another hold before 30 I don't think the end result would have been any different.

I'd actually (depending upon build) rank them third for PvP, with Brute and Stalker being ahead. Some dominator builds will be better, although the general lack of self heal/buffing makes them squishy if you know the right way to take them down.

I'd rank MM at bottom for PvP, although absolute gods at PvE. The key difference is that human opponents generally won't ignore the MM and take on the lackeys first.

Original Poster: If you're going /Traps, as someone already said, get TP Foe and slot it.

Fire is not a particularly PvP friendly build - Fire damage is generally resisted by melee types and AoEs tend to be innefficient apart from the odd end of beta event. I'd suggest RAD, maybe Dark, but that won't be so good for PvE. (Having said that, I went Ice/Kin which is a combination of great PvP primary and lousy PvP secondary, so what do I know)
  15. That's one reason for going mind...
  16. [ QUOTE ]
What is you power choice btw?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not sure if that was directed at me or not - my PvP dominator is Mind/Energy, with everything from mind except total domination and only the melee attacks/snipe/obligatory first blast from energy +Powerboost. Fitness (hurdle/health/stamina), leaping (acrobatics/cj/sj) and leadership (for +perception) and you're out of choices.

Don't see this build racking up a lot of PvP kills until 35, at which point it turns into a bit of a one trick pony when it comes to kills. I do see the massive and varied number of status effects (I took energy over ice for disorient) enabling a team I am on to rack up a fairly impressive number.

    is it just me...

    [ QUOTE ]
I lvoe being a dominator, a couple of dominators in a team are very effective at locking down most things!

    [/ QUOTE ]

you're lucky if you get that many... I think I've been in one team with more than one dominator in. It was amazing while it lasted.

I'm only level 12 and did find I wasn't that useful in an 8 person team. It seems to be getting better slowly. Feels a lot like controllers did until quite recently (in terms of damage output).

I agree that my brute, MM(s), corruptor(s) and even stalker seem to do more damage. I level so slowly solo compared to all my other villains. But I managed (at level 10) to solo 2 level 10 elite bosses in back to back missions, taking 20 minutes total (the mobs took more time than the bosses). I don't think I could do that with any other build, except possibly my MMs (which in my opinion are a little overpowered). If it wasn't for the nagging feeling I have that once I hit the 30s with this dominator it will be awesome, I'd have deleted it by now.

    Travel Power

If you only want to use your travel powers for travel, then once you have SOs Siphon speed (slotted for accuracy & recharge) and inertial reduction (1 slotted for jump or recharge) certainly can fit the bill - these are not suppressed either, so have other uses in play.

If you want any other power in a travel pool (TP Foe, Hover Or acrobatics for example) then it may be worthwhile (indeed necessary) to pick one.

3 slotted hover with siphon speed works just fine for my Kin defender, along with inertial reduction.

On my /kin corruptor (that has the same power progression as your controller) I took superspeed, but only so I could use it in conjunction with stealth - Kinetics don't really need any travel pool (in my opinion) and I normally only take one if, as I've said, I need it for a secondary effect/to open up another power in that pool.

((You will miss occasionally with siphon speed - fact of life. That's one reason why I also take IR))
  19. From the menu on screen, click 'Menu'
Find 'Support' - 2nd one up
Fill in a description describing what you have here.
    Click on 'Send petition'
A games master will read it and send emails to the address you have registered with. Their advice may fix it, it may not.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Hello all, sorry for this noobie post.

Would dominators be effective and fun to play in PvP? I have read up a lot (obviously not enough!) but cannot decide on their PvP'ability.

The only stiplulation are that I would say is that I will probably concentrate on ranged, rather than melee attacks (yeah im a chicken). I will also play a lot by myself and so would need to be fairly self suporting adn fun to play the character on my own.

Mainly i wanted advice on the main primary and secondary skills to use (and avoid) for PvP

Any other on particularly useful (or unuseful) sub skills also appreciated,

REALLY apreciate any help at all

    Thanks

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not a silly (or n00b) question at all - at least on union there seems to be little action in the PvP zones and there are hardly any posts about builds in the dominator forum. I'll suggest looking at the US boards (if you haven't already) for more info. Even over there, the jury is still out. I'd say Dominators could be useful in PvP, but it depends on the type - 1 vs 1 arena match, Pentad, PvP zone ...

I'd tend to either ice or energy as a secondary, for power boost - dominator holds appear to be 65% (figure from a post in the us dominator boards, unconfirmed) of the duration of controllers, so you need the extra oomph - I wouldn't count on getting Domination up too often - your bar resets at defeat.

As for a solo PvP type, I'd suggest pretty much any AT other than Dominator. You could do it (I plan to), but you would be remarkably squishy compared to many other PvP builds. Stalker strikes me as much more PvP oriented, but I haven't got one past 6 yet...

US forum seems to suggest Mind/energy, Ice/Ice, Grav/Energy (opinion is split on this one). /PSI comes in for a slating. Other sets have their own fans.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. I have a mind/energy build posted somewhere, but it isn't PvP specific...
  21. I'd petition it in that case - worth trying.
Also, you may have to go see each contact in person (not call them) to check if they have another contact for you - I had to do this recently.
  22. I vote for 'what'

I don't know what level you are but I'm noticing it more as I go up levels (probably because I'm taking on tougher mobs).

At lower levels, where you can take things from >50% to 0 in one shot (particularly with Fire/Dark or Fire/Rad) you will not notice scourge so much.

I like it and I've teamed with a Fire/Dark in the low 20s ... when fireball/rain of fire/fire breath all go off on a tightly packed mob, you really notice scourge (just as well as the reuturn volley would wipe you out).

I'm pretty sure he's asking for people to put a comment here to say if thery are leaving. Maybe english isnt the OP's first language?

    [/ QUOTE ]

When I see a post like the original poster's, I automatically assume english is their first language, they just happen to have their own dialect (cue daily mail story on 'Goths' vs 'Urban Stoners' etc.)

Mainly because most players I've teamed with who speak english as a second language tend to be very "correct" and precise in their usage... I could of course be entirely wrong in this.

Not many people seem to know this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do ... although I had to be reminded of the fact by Bridger once

Completely off-topic for next raid, but wouldn't dominators absolutely rock in a hami raid? They'd be hitting dominance all the time.... plus once hami was held they could do the damage themselves, reducing lag substantially.

When is 'going rogue' going live again?
