Quote:Or, instead of making assumptions, the devs are doing exactly like they said. They looked at other games that went f2p and made choices to avoid some common pitfalls. In addition, they said they wanted to add more value to our present subscription. Having another server to play on is added potential value. But, in my opinion, deciding to do something based on an assumption of people's behavior, when those people aren't even here yet to behave any way at all, is, well, pretty silly.
You're right that just because it happened in other games it will automatically happen here. But why not have something in place just in case, and let people know months ahead of time so they don't get bothered and quit because they feel like they're not being considered.
It's an easy way to alleviate some of the tension over the change, and show they're really making an effort to give us more choices for our money. -
The guy who doesn't realize they added a whole new trial today, calls us crazy.

Sure you can, just make sure they're always out of range.

It disappeared not because everyone turned it off, but because no companies were willing to spend money on adspace just to get seen by a few thousand gamers. Thus, no additional revenue.

Quote:I need to ask, why do you care why people do things?Your point is also ridiculous. Because it revolves around being judgmental of a group of people that don't even exist yet.
Free players in other games behaving a certain way does not automatically mean they will behave that way in THIS game. If they do turn out to behave that way, you can choose to avoid them then if you like. Assuming you already know for a fact how an entire group of people will behave in a game they aren't playing yet is both shortsighted and more than a little judgmental.
Would YOU like being lumped in with a group of people because you happen to share one characteristic with them (in this case, playing a game for free), and having other people make all kinds of assumptions about what kind of person you are because of that characteristic?
Saying "Oh, I've seen Group X before, I know all about Group X. Group X is nothing but a bunch of potty-mouthed children. I don't blame anyone for wanting to avoid them." is a prime example of the kind of elitist attitude I was expressing concern about in my OP of this thread.
I do have concerns about free players behaving badly, but I am NOT going to lump them all in the same group and assume they are ALL going to act that way. Especially not before I've even MET any of them.
Why do you think it's a binary proposition, in that people will either play on the VIP server or they won't?
By which I mean, it's not really anyone's business but the player's why they move to the VIP server. I don't play on Freedom because I didn't enjoy it on the occasions I tried to start a character there. That doesn't mean I judge the people who do play there.
As for the VIP server, it's a choice being offered to us. Even though a lot of my characters are marked as helpers, I'm the mod of the biggest badge/teaming channel on my server, and I have Help Channel active on all my characters, there are still times I shut them off, go on hide, and just play with friends. It doesn't make me unhelpful or rude or anything. I just want my time to be my own. With Freedom I'll have another option for doing so, a fresh server with a fresh start where I can go and hang out with a lot of other people I've been talking to here for years but never taken the time to make an alt on every other server to hang out with them.
You're right that we shouldn't judge Free players without experience. But at the same time you shouldn't feel free to judge other VIP players and make assumptions about their motives. It's an opportunity, and the minute you get hung up on motivations, you're blowing it. -

When they made Going Rogue, they decided the first time someone ran it to make a character, they would direct them to the new content and automatically make that character a Praetorian. The experience in Praetoria is a lot more morally ambiguous and nuanced. As Kat said, you play there until level 20 when you make the decision of whether to go to Paragon City, or the Rogue Isles.
Any characters you make after the first can be Hero, Praetorian, or Villain from the start, and you can play through the low level areas in Paragon or RI instead. -
That'll teach me to talk about Praetoria when I've only been up through level 8 there, or sped through badge hunting. Thanks for the corrections, I knew I should have double checked before I said that, because even I didnt think I was right.

1) Missions are instances. You mean Task Forces, which are really just a string of missions, designed to do with a team. Apart from that, yes it is possible to level that way. You will spend more time getting teams than you will playing, at least in the long run, unless you get a reliable group of friends to run with consistently.
Aside- This game relies very little on healing and direct heals. Even the pools with multiple healing powers devote more of their design to buffs and/or debuffs. You won't find a dedicated healing Class or Power pool in this game (even Empathy). If you team with people as a focused healer, you will accomplish more than you would trying to solo with such a build, but you will also be putting more burden on them for your progress than you would with a more balanced outlook.
2) As I said, missions are instances. Most of the game's population is in those instances at a given time, thus you don't see them. If you seek out some global chat channels on your server, you will be in touch with more people, regardless of where you are and they are, and the game will rapidly feel more alive to you.
3) As far as I know, there are no Auction Houses in Praetoria where you are. I think there are banks, but I'm not sure. I do know there are vendors (not Merit Vendors) marked on your map that you can sell to. To sell Salvage and recipes to them, use the slider on to move the left side of your window down to see them.
4) there is something you can do. Stop thinking of yourself as weak. Unfortunately there isn't any way to change your difficulty settings in Praetoria, but you can start a character as a hero or villain and get some more control over the settings in missions (and get some overall easier missions). But really, you're not weak unless you ignore parts of the character pools available to you (overfocusing on heals early on). Another good way to handle over hard missions is to kill things on the streets that are easy for you until you get a level or two above the missions you have trouble with.
My last advice to you is to find a friend. Someone who likes to do the combat thing more than you do and doesn't mind letting you focus on support as long as you do a good job supporting them. -
I can say with certainty, that if that's your gripe with this game, you won't find things much different in any other game out there. People are complacent, and willing to wait for something to happen then complain when it doesn't. Even in games with automatic team gathering features, it falls to one person to step up and use their words so people are on the same page.

Isn't this why they made Stalkers?
Let one come along with you, set him as waypoint, and let him stand next to whatever you want to know how far away it is. -
I'd say your definition of average needs updating then. You chide someone for making assumptions, then pepper your own posts with them. Unusual.

Quote:I'm not sure where you're getting your information about LRSF, but on my server any run that takes more than an hour is considered unusual, and most take under 45minutes.This is usually where I'd assume that you have ended up on quite a few ignore lists, but instead I'll offer that, despite being the WTF, a LRSF is not a popular task. It takes too much time and has too much risk for too little a reward for most players. And it's redside.
Hell, I've been on Master runs that take less than an hour. -
Quote:Your choice of language is so weird that I have a hard time understanding what you're trying to say. Work with short declarative sentences instead of trying to speak around what you're trying to say.Very sterling point. And, as I'm not part of the closed beta, I have no contractual obligations to avoid saying.... I'm not part of the closed beta..
As far as I am aware, as I've seen not trace of an invite...
That said, I am totally OK with the new goodies as far as I've heard of them.. I love new goodies usually.... In general, and often specifically.
My reluctance is entirely based on the concept of giving the game away... Things are often worth what they are going for.... If the cost drops to nada, well, that often means something. Not to mention that there will be a marketing influx, which is already so bad on some servers that I avoid them.. I frankly don't want that sort of population expansion on the 'smaller' servers..
Marketing influence? What? INF sellers aren't a major issue in this game, and while their attempts may increase when the game changes to Freedom, the dev team has a proven track record of implementing additional security features quickly to combat whatever they try.
Less beholden to regular subscribers? I don't even know what that means. You talk in circles. They have specific goals in making this change, and they've stated them clearly. So far you haven't stated your objections or goals in a clear fashion.
Even if I'm not 100% on board with the change, I understand what their goals are because they said so. No matter how many times I read what you've written, I don't see you accounting for those points. -
Last night around midnight eastern time on Pinnacle, there were 2 full BAF groups running, and a full LRSF. And those are just the groups that come immediately to mind, and were formed from one channel (PinnBadges).

Thing is, we don't. A rusty beat up metal texture like the Clockwork has, or a consistent dull brass texture like Nemesis units get, is something I've been hoping they'd add to existing Metallic pieces for a long long time.

Red Side Events
One thing you haven't hit yet is events in the Rogue Isles. I think in keeping with the morally ambiguous and chaotic nature of the Isles, all of these events should be defined by choice.
Mercy Isle- Snake Swarm should be a nearly zone wide event where the snakes charge from their holes in attempt to drive the humans out. Participants then get the choice to side with the humans and drive them back, or side with the snakes and cause more chaos. Players can then either have fun with a monster stomp or a mayhem style event where they get to smash property and start fires.
Sharkhead- The existing Miner's strike is a good start, but is too random. Players should be able to stick it to The Man, and help the miners if they want. Protect the Ghost of Scrapyard and his men as they proceed along their route, facing down Cage Guards, then Arachnos, then help Scrappy get vengeance on Mako himself. Alternatively, they can repress the uprising by defeating the strikers, defeating the ghost that comes to their aid, and then going around the isle to the sites where workers are causing trouble until they are cowed and go back to work.
St Martial- I don't have a particular idea, other than it should involve some kind of Carnie parade that faces off with the Family. -
These are some good ideas, I'd like to say in addition that one of my favorite aspects of the events in Praetoria, is the multi stage feel. I think the events in Paragon (and the Rogue Isles) should meet the same standards.
For Fires in SC, start by putting out the blaze, proceed to going inside and rescuing civilians, and then either chase the arsonists to their lair as part of the event, or "win" a mission for that, to be completed at your convenience.
For Supatrolls, make it like you said but a little different. Stop the Supas from destroying property. Work your way back to the rave site and help the PPD drive off the waiting Trolls. Then go inside and shut down the operation and "party"
with regard to your point about "this is supposed to be a rave?" I agree. I think something all the non zone-wide events we have is lacking in, are visual cues from a distance. Troll Raves should make use of the tech similar to the Talos spotlights, to light up the site and make it visible from the distance. The fires should apply a lighting effect to the whole neighborhood, and the smoke plume should be visible anywhere in the zone. Hell, if they ever add a Fire Department, they could come up with firetrucks that travel to the site of the fire as well. -
Quote:Since the point in time when game designers decided that rewards of any stripe belong wherever they decide they belong.Pardon my ignorance, but since when are emotes considered to be end game content?
In other words, a long time before this game out, and it won't end until a long time after.
Content is content, and it gets distributed however they decide. Coming up with artificial distinction is just that, artificial. Unless you're privvy to the criteria the devs use, any distinction you apply is going to be a guess. -
I prefer the much simpler alternative of making friends and joining channels filled with people who don't spend all their time in AE, instead of trying to force the people that want to stay in the AE to stay.

Quote:They just said today or yesterday that there's more coming in i21 that they didn't release all the info at once. And I'm not gonna buy your claim that absence of a thing confirms it's opposite.Aett beat me to it.
But I stand by my statements. We've no reason to expect Proliferation any time within the next year or so. And we definitely won't see any with i21, or they would've bothered to mention it already.
You've ignored the first rule of prognostication. Avoid absolute positions. -
Quote:Can I quote you on that?i21's features are already set. It's too late at this point to expect them to shoehorn in any Proliferation. Last update on it was apparently BS making a note to look into it during a recent UStream, so don't expect any to actually see the light of day 'til i23 or so.

By the technical definition, we only have one currency in the game. Everything else is nontradeable token systems. I don't see keeping track of what's out there as particularly daunting either. I have a harder time remembering which alts got which drops and where my salvage and recipes are, than keeping track of who has how many tokens.
