Quote:Can something be done? Of course. As a player of CoH since May of 2004, having a 7.5 year uninterrupted subscription and having had as many as four, yes four active accounts over the years, I love to be able to access the full game and the forums. I'd even be willing to pay to do so, but there is no apparent way to do this. Can something be done to at the very least unlock the forums so long time players can say goodbyes and exchange contact info?
WN
Will something be done? Of course...not.
As far as NCSoft is concerned this game, and community, are dead to it. -
Quote:The game should end the way any good comic book universe should:Now what would be very cool at the end is some kind of asteroid shower or ultra tsunami or other natural disaster that eradicates all life on all servers instantly. Come on- you owe us that at least, Devs! Make this game go out with a bang. If you're going to take this thing down, give it some kind of irresistible and memorable plight that takes down the most heroic and most villainous alike! Will you be kind enough to give us a hardcore sending off that we will never forget?
If that doesn't happen, I think I will become an Iron Eagle finally. It seems fitting now. No- I don't know who any of you true and blue Iron Eagles are that have often adopted this playstyle for a fun and different spin on things. But, since the end is drawing nigh, it does seem like a great way to retire toons permanently. Why not have them take a permanent dirt nap if they bite it in the next 90 days?
No stripping the toon out, or passing the wealth on to the next set of hungry hands. Once you plant, that's it. All of your belongings are returned to the soil just as you are. No rerollings. Just plain and simple wiping out of all the toons on my account if they don't make the cut.
Thoughts?
"A wave of antimatter sweeping through, consuming all in its path"
Heroes, villains all fighting together to stop it (ala Crime Syndicate on Earth 3) -
I had to
1) partially clean up the title
2) Point this out (ironically, your point 2) " Being polite does NOT mean being deferential. As a customer"
I agree with being polite, but not the customer part. NCSoft, with the shutdown, has said 'we don't want you as our customers'. -
Quote:I'm curious....I've really never given either the primary or secondary much of a go as of yet and am really curious to see if it would make the "Tanky" brute I would like to try.
I'm more a solo pve'er and would love a build with soft caps to the "fab four" and an idea on how not to faceplant on my rise to 50!
Thanks all!
If you're a soloer I would NOT pick /stone. It's overkill for ANYTHING you'll face solo, and if you crank up the levels or amounts of spawns the single target nature of DM with the -damage and -recharge of granite will slow your leveling to a crawl. If you don't intend to run granite then the -speed, -jump of rooted will also slow you down and given the +def of all of the other armors won't make you that much more survivable.
For a soloer I would suggest:
electric=good resists, good heal, great end management
shield=good defenses, +damage (against all odds), good nuke
willpower=decent defense, decent resists, good to great end management, good +regen
fire=good resists, great heal, damage aura, +damage, pbaoe (burn), decent end management
DM is a fine pick for a soloer as its mostly single target based, comes with a heal that also does great damage. Its AoE is paltry (1 attack, and 2 utility powers). Though when something resists negative energy, it RESISTS negative energy. Its -to hit buff synergizes nicely with defense based sets -
Quote:Can I have your stuff?Well, it's time for this party animal to do the shuffle into the unknown. Today is my last day here at Paragon Studios, and I leave enriched, having known this fantastic community.
It's a bit of a funny story; I wasn't even supposed to be on the Community Team! I had applied for a completely different position at Paragon Studios, but was offered the chance to interact directly with the players instead. Even before I got to know most of you, I jumped at the chance, and I cannot express how glad I am that I did. It's often said that we have one of the best communities in online gaming, and it's no exaggeration: City of -
What are you unhappy about with it? I've rolled a stj/regen and I like it but he's not even 20 yet.

These....these aren't the Teen Titans (sorry, child of the 80s here)

Quote:Though they have mucked with the rage crash a bit over the last few years. The HO exploit is not the power set SS and the patch notes in I22 have nothing to do with SS. I'll believe it needs to be reviewed again when a red letter says so.
Certain people have been calling for SS to be nerfed for the entire five years I have been here. In terms of reviewed, it was and they found that they could not come up with a better way to deal with the set and left it alone. Wise decision.
As I recall, the initial crash was it left you disoriented....except with your mez protection running it didn't
Then they made it so it crashed your entire endurance (though I don't believe this made it to live).
Then the crash was 'only affecting self', so you couldn't do damage..or debuff or in the case of /elec use your tier 9. Of course there's also the def debuff and the 25% end crash (and double stacking rage took care of the def debuff)
The last crash adjustment was actually an un nerf as it simply applies a -1000% damage debuff. Which allows you to hit power sink, or melt armor or your tier 9....or use your vet attacks. Of course, there's also the def debuff and the end crash.
Suffice it to say, I do think there will be some type of adjustment 'eventually', though I hope its more like the adjustment dominators got(take damage boost from domination and add it to their sets) and not what Energy Transfer was given (hideous animation, stun mag reduction without anything to compensate for it). -
-
So, I rolled a SoA..and I initially picked a crab..decided I didn't like it...so I used my second build and didn't pick a crab..now...my costume has the stupid backpack.
I went to the tailor and tried to lose it there..no dice...
Short of a re-roll (yes, I dislike it THAT much) is there a way to get rid of it (ie a second costume slot won't have it).
Thanks. -
Elec/ vs fire/
Fire has a heal, available earlier on a shorter timer (though doesn't offer + regen).
Fire has burn (aoe attack)
fire has fiery embrace. (180 second recharge, adds + damage to every attack)
Basically, fire offers more damage -
Quote:You could always create a new tab in your chat log and add to hit rolls on it. It'll give you a pretty good history of your attacks, your hit chance, what you rolled and what the damage was.Im playing a +3 DP/Time corr atm and i've started questioning the accuracy of some of the DP attacks. For example, when beating down on the AVs in BaF, I will only see orange numbers on maybe every third attack? Does this mean im missing a lot or are the numbers just not showing up?
Thanks -
I have to agree with Rock_Crag, last few months my internet has been 'slow' (ie fine on web pages, but streaming media tends to queue a lot more lately). Luckily, I live in the city where Google is dropping Fiber Optics..so I'm hoping to have a real choice soon. (tm)

Time Warner cable here, and I'm in Kansas City Kansas...I'm seeing exactly what you're reporting:
1) Can't login
2) Try again...Can login!

4) Try again...can connect to justice
5) Pick a character
6) Zone....DBServer can't be reached
oh well...maybe I'll do soemthing useful today -
Quote:Best Quote from Caine on Jaws IV:Caine doesn't really do much currently unless it's Christopher Nolan on the other end of the phone, but there was a time that guy would do anything for a paycheck (see also: Jaws IV: The Revenge). He was always a solid actor, even in bad roles.
As far as Neeson goes, he's been hit or miss. I wouldn't call "Batman Begins" or "Taken" a varying degree of nothing.
"I've never seen it, but from all accounts its dreadful. But let me assure you the house it built is wonderful"
My YouTube FU is weak...but if that's not the exact quote its pretty damn close. -
I'm going to have to throw my hat in the ring for traps.
First, you get FFG which adds a good bit of defense to you and your henchmen, isn't a toggle (so if you get mezzed it doesn't surpress). For healing you also get triage beacon. Which while isn't GREAT can help.
For soft mitigation you have:
Caltrops (messes with mob AI)
Poison Trap (great hold, and the puking animation is 'hold' as well)
Seeker Drones (abosrbs the alpha and debuffs accuracy and damage)
For +offense:
Acid Mortar (debuffs defense and resistance)
Trip Mine-Interruptable AoE bomb...not great, but can be combined with ss+stealth to toe bomb invisibly in most situations
Detonator: blows a henchman to heck and back...more damage. -
To pick a nit....Superior conditioning gives you a bigger pool of endurance, but doesn't do anything for regeneration. Physical Perfection gives you more regen and more recovery.
-
I must be the ONLY person that wants to run a /cold MM?
and I know I'm not the only person that wants to run a SS/* scrapper...jeeze, a criting KO Blow ? sign me up! -
Quote:Sam....did you used to NEVER take stamina, at all? This may seem like a dumb question and, moreover, a somewhat silly plan - putting Energy Mastery on a character who already has both Stamina and Quick Recovery, but I'm going for it anyway. However, of the five powers in Energy Mastery, which one should I skip?
Right out of the game I know I want two powers out of the set, and those CANNOT be skipped - Laser Beam Eyes and Energy Torrent. That's a concept thing, so these powers both need to be taken. This leaves two power picks and three powers - Physical Perfection, Superior Conditioning and Focused Accuracy - for only two power picks. Obviously, one has to go, but which one?
I kind of wonder if I shouldn't built to theme and just go for unnecessary overkill endurance and stick with Superior Conditioning and Physical Perfection, but Focused Accuracy has its perks, too. But if I chose to skip on either of the two endurance-helping powers, which one should it be?
I'm really not that concerned with min-maxing and with so much endurance slots really shouldn't be a problem, I'm just looking for general opinions on what you guys like and why.
Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.
I guess...out of the three I would skip...Focused Accuracy.
1) Physical Perfection gives you more recovery and regeneration
2) Superior Conditioning give you a bigger pool o' stamina
3) Focused accuracy was gutted not so long ago
Hmm...here's what I would take
1) Superior Conditioning
Then duke it out between PP and FA. If you're not having end/regen issues take FA (inspite of what I just said) -
Nope.
During Ultra-Secret-Closed beta, Castle swore us to secrecy. Now that he's gone I can at last share the secret.
That's why demons were added, trying to add parity (and maybe some parody as well). -
You have three female sets already:
Demons
Necros
Robots
Not to mention the Dark Servant from /Dark.
The only female controller pets are the fire imps, so I think we make out well on the deal. -
Quote:So...question then....in my enforcers I haveNo, generic IOs, SOs and HOs will affect all of a pet's powers that can use the enhancement type.
There is however an... issue... with the pet damage sets (I'm not sure if it's a bug, unintended behavior or what) that means that the enhancement bonuses from Pet Damage sets will only apply to the pet's attack powers. Utility powers (such as the Enforcer's Leadership powers) do not benefit from the enhancement in Pet Damage sets even if they can use some of the enhancement types. As such with high level MM builds it's often preferable to make use of HOs to increase your enhancement rather than pet damage IOs unless the pet has no utility powers.
In the case of the Arsonist he will benefit from endurance reduction in Pet Damage sets but not Knockback or Defense Debuff sets so you probably don't want to slot those (the regular thugs benefit from those though). In the case of the Enforcers I'd advise skipping Set IOs for the purposes of endurance reduction (although the Acc/Dam ones will work fine) and using generic IOs, SOs or HOs (useful tip, Enzyme Enhancers will provide end reduction and boost the defense of Maneuvers).
2 accu, 2 damage
1 def buff
1 Achilles heel chance for resist debuff...
Does that mean the last two are wastes of slots?
OK...I see the proc firing from time to time..so that's good -
Quote:So...I logged in this morning..it dl's a patch and lets me in...I'm trying Crash's fix right now but what worries me is that my updater says V1800.xxxxx should it not be 1900?
I log out
I log in this afternoon...it dl's a patch and won't let me in....
Again, points back to a misconfigured server somewhere...
Interestingly enough, here's the number on my client:
v1800.201002171501.1
If I'm reading that right...its 2010 02 17....seems like the wrong month (02 vs 12).
Did a flush DNS, reconnected
Grabbed another patch (again, way too quick seems like its cached on my machine)
Applied
I can now login though the version number doesn't seem to change.
Logged out
Restarted client
no patch/no application
Can still login. -
Quote:Its funny, I've done all that...and I played for a while. I logged out and a few hours later I went to login again.....How to fix the 'No response from server' problem:
(This is for XP, Vista and 7 are similar, but call the CMD box something else)
Exit COX
Using Windows Explorer or hard disk browse, go to where your COX program is installed (like C:\Program Files\City of Heroes)
In the City of Heroes folder, find two files: one ends in PRV and one ends in CHECKSUM
Delete them
At Start, click Run. IN the box, type CMD
The Command Prompt black screen appears. In the command window, type :
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS <--- notice the space before /
After it runs, type EXIT in the command window and the black screen goes away.
Restart COX
It will checksum and then fix the broken files
It will verify
And then you can log in
Connect
Client does an instantaneous download (way too fast, so my guess it's cached on my machine).
Applies the patch
and now I can't log in again.
I'm happy that there are work arounds, but it appears there's a misconfigured server somewhere (why some people don't have an issue, others do). -
Well..they had people working, since its a likely bet that the deployment process isn't totally automated. Also, anyone in IT knows that with any deployment you run the risk of unintended consequences regardless of how 'trivial' the content is.
Hmm...I'm seeing the same thing other people are reporting.
