  1. Okay, some actual feedback.

Very glad to see some more of the tech that overlays your Nav window when you get close to a special feature. (If you are near the huge present left behind by the Winter Lord, you can click on the (i) in your Nav window for information.)

Lord Winter - can we possibly get a different name? We've had Winter Lords of various strengths for years now, and adding a new version with the same words in his name is a bit odd. Can I suggest 'Old Man Winter' or 'King Winter' or even 'Giant Wandil'? (That last one is a bit obscure but fits perfectly!)

Could we also maybe get some more variation in the models, if possible? Right now the Winter Lord, Lord Winter and the Winter Guardian all look pretty much the same. Maybe give Lord Winter an ice-textured halo or something?

Three minutes may be a bit long for the countdown on the present. Two minutes would give a bit more frantic tension.

Rewards seem well worth the effort.
  2. Quick rundown of what seems to be happening:

    1. Collect presents. When enough presents have been collected...
    2. A Winter Lord (Giant Monster) spawns. When he is defeated...
    3. A huge present appears. Important: this is marked on the map. A countdown starts which is 'preparation time'. When the countdown reaches zero...
    4. Anyone who clicks on the huge present is teleported to Lord Winter's Realm. Lord Winter is a huge Winter Lord on top of a hill. Beatdown commences.
    5. At 75%, 50% and 25% health, Lord Winter summons the Winter Guardian... a GM Winter Lord. While the Winter Guardian is alive, Lord Winter can't be hurt.
    6. Defeating Lord Winter gets you 20 Candy Canes, 6 Reward Merits and the Lord/Lady of Winter Badge.

I'm not sure if 1 actually causes 2, but from what Ghost Falcon said, I think it does.

  4. I think we're all overlooking something about GR and what it may bring to the Architect.

Does anyone else remember the big fuss that was made a while back about branching options in missions? Wasn't the Origin of Power arc supposed to be a sort of test?

We might be getting twice the size because we'll NEED twice the size to alllow for multiple mission branches in our MA arcs. Even if all we got was Origin of Power style multiple choice conversation rather than branching missions, we'd still need extra space to provide all the text.
  5. I can't edit this arc to alert people in the description, so please excuse me doing it here.

It seems the arc is now bugged, so that missions after the first give nothing but V-2 bosses. I'd recommend avoiding it until it's fixed.

I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't apply for the position. As for where all our jobs are, I don't expect Paragon to be able to hire an endless string of mission designers. There was only one vacancy, and personally I'm glad it was taken by someone who knows what the heck they are doing. Since Sean took over, we've actually had NEW Dev's Choice arcs.

My only point is that hiring a player sets a very dangerous precendent.
Castle was a player before they hired him. So was Synapse. I'm pretty sure there have been others.

It reeks of favouritism toward that particular player (not that the whole Dev's Choice fiasco didn't do that already).
Posi said flat out that he'd be looking at MA writing credentials when he hired any new mission designers. It makes sense that your past history of designing missions for CoH players should be a measure of how well you are going to design missions for CoH players.

    Quote:
There is the concern that the hired player will show favour to his or her global friends list when examining potential rewards tied to the Architect.
I think it's much more likely that the hired player will no longer be able to give any recognition to arcs by his or her global friends, for that exact reason.

If there were aspects of games engineering tied to the player vs. player experience (and there most certainly are) then certainly PvP experts should be considered for the position. Just as base experts should be considered for that iteration as well.
OK, so get the word out.

The developers have opened the door here. If there are no more player-based hires, it will look odd. If there are player-based hires, then this looks great.
Well, like I said above, this is hardly the first player-based hire. That was Castle, if I remember right.

The Devs didn't just wake up one morning and say 'hey let's hire that guy, he writes good arcs'. They advertised the position of Mission Designer and Feargas was the successful applicant.

Looks like they're hiring a Games Engineer right now. 'Interest in game design and what makes games fun' is preferred. Do you know any PvP experts who might be interested?
  8. whoa whoa whoa, Fearghas is Dr Aeon?

    OMG. BIGGEST GRATS EVER.

There's an interesting and subtle distinction between 'form of art' and 'art form'.

A little child's crayon drawings that you stick on the fridge are a form of art.

But infantile crayon scrawling is not an art form.

  14. Thank you for your attention. This has been a test of the Subversive Propaganda Simulation Alert System. We trust that none of our Praetorian citizens have been in the least discomfited. If you experienced troubling emotions or disloyal thoughts, consult a Seer immediately for rapid relief.

Please be advised that genuine subversive propaganda, should it ever succeed in being broadcast, is likely to be far less skilfully constructed. It will be characterized by crude appeals to emotion and hectoring rhetoric. The approved reaction is to smile and go about your business. If you are compelled to act otherwise, consult a Seer for free counselling.

Thank you for your co-operation. Praetoria prevails.

That's been corrected. GR has level 1-20 content. It isn't Issue 20.

If so, I can see your point.

Well, allow me to help you out there. The bug was tracked down because a player noticed he was sometimes getting drops at their good old-fashioned rate while in TF mode.

What kind of deliberate nerf would leave drops at their old rate in some (but not all) TFs and Ouro missions?

It was more that people in the EU (like me!) were able to play the US version from launch onwards, Fifth and all. So if there had been any legal issue with the Fifth Column (which there wasn't, as we all know) it would have come up then, not at the official EU release.
