  1. Sounds like the name of an attack from Dragonball Z. And with 313 damage, seems like it acts like one, too.
  2. This is win just for the export build feature. Do you guys have any plans to integrate this with your online planner?
  3. In regard to the "Dragonball-like" thing, it's a bit narrow of a descriptor. It's more like the general anime or eastern style of Natural where, with enough training, you can learn to jump on fragile fronds and do battle, or leap high enough to clear the trees, or be Just That Good as someone invoked earlier. And we can't forget that CoH is based on a comic book superhero world, where a "natural" person can do a lot more than in real life.

But yeah, this pack uses what seems like a different interpretation of the word. Natural as in "of nature" and not... inherent or non-powered. Not that I'm complaining. The cape and auras look pretty cool. Only thing stopping me from buying this so far is that most of my characters don't tend to use capes or auras. That'll probably change soon.

Also considering D-Naka has said that the devs worry about what people might do with laying-down emotes, citing the pushups emote as a cause for concern. I think BAB had also implied similar feelings.

The devs seem pretty prudish about such things. Not saying it's good or bad, just.. saying it.

Will agree on a desire for a little more leeway on the left side of the "Chest" slider.
  5. In response to the idea that claws can't be non-lethal, I think that's just silly. You don't need to dip into the fighting pool or get flurry or jump kick just to justify conceptually that your claws guy isn't ripping people to shreds. All it takes is a willingness to visualize that he's pulling his punches, or aiming for non-vital areas, or not driving his claws deep enough to kill, only to incapacitate.

Saying weapon sets can't be played as non-lethal is a limitation on your part, not the game's. There's not even any blood shown. What the game shows visually does not have to be taken as absolute.

So yes, feel free to say your claws, sword, and gun users are killing their enemies, but do it because it's your concept, not because you feel the game is forcing you. Cuz it's totally not.

Anyone can absolutely play the game their way, and if they want to lean toward the realistic and gritty, that's fine. But lore provides an easy out to any character not wanting to kill their enemies, no matter what their method.

I'd also like to join in with those that say CoH is based on comics and superheroes. Certainly in real life, stopping violent crime without loss of life is amazingly difficult. But in the world of superheroes, it's not a big leap.

I'll finish this post by saying that this "schism" for lack of a better word between those whose characters kill and those whose characters don't can have major implications on RP teams and supergroups. If Gritty McKillsalot joins a team of arrest-not-kills, the clashing of concepts could lead to a bit of a situation. I don't really have any good way of fixing this other than the rather drastic solution of leaving the team, but I thought I'd just throw it out there as food for thought.
  6. Seeing Batman smile felt wrong and creepy.

Otherwise, so far it looks good.

    Brick Frog!

We need a brick-based powerset in CoH, STAT.
  8. 9. I don't really consider Power Customization done until we can customize pools and epics.

    Fixed.

Energy Aura uses Typed defense. It has a tiny, miniscule amount of defense to Psi, and Toxic defense doesn't even exist.

Arachnos are bad news for Energy Aura.

Otherwise I find it to perform adequately while solo or duo on default difficulty settings using only SOs. I seemed to have more endurance problems than normal while leveling up, but Stamina helped as usual, and Energy Drain fixed it right the hell up.

And yes, it is strong and pretty.

I had this problem as well. I know Steelclaw wanted to go more by power descriptions than by mechanics, but Focus Chi is just a renamed Build Up. Other versions of Build Up behave exactly the same, mechanically, as Focus Chi. Their absence seems odd.

So far I've only done this for a Martial Arts and a Katana scrapper, both Super Reflexes, so my critiques will be limited to those sets.

Under Fighting, the two other SR passives (Dodge and Lucky) are absent. Lucky is also absent from Agility.

Also under Agility, I noticed that Martial Arts gets points for several powers, but Katana only gets points for a single power. Why is this? And why those particular powers? I also see that Ninja Blade gets points for Golden Dragonfly. Katana also has this power, but gets no points for it.

Under Strength, Cobra Strike isn't listed for Martial Arts. While it's understandable since Cobra Strike used to do barely any damage, it was buffed up to the same damage level as Crane Kick in I18. Since Crane Kick is included in this list, Cobra Strike should be as well.

I was also wondering if any thought had been given to the various "extra" powers, like the inherent Origin powers and especially Ninja Run. I know that anyone who's bought the Natural Booster would have access to NR, but surely those running their characters through this system would tally the points only if their character used it as their main mode of travel.

Anyway, here are the results from my Martial Arts/SR character, who generally scored higher than my Katana/SR character:

    Fighting: 137 (beyond Unearthly)
    Agility: 95 (Awesome)
    Strength: 64 (Sensational)
    Endurance: 95 (Awesome)
    Reason: 39 (Fantastic)
    Intuition: 50 (Amazing)
    Psyche: 20 (Excellent)

Based on the concept of my character, Strength is waaaaaay too high, and Psyche is just a little bit too low.
  11. I'd like to say the misspelling on The Joker's card is an intended troll attempt, as would befit such a character.

But it's more likely just a typo.
  12. Was surprised nobody posted about this. According to this press release, ReBoot will be getting a complete series release next year on DVD.

Complete series! On DVD! I am excited.
  13. I thought this was going to be an announcement about a Marvel vs DC Animated movie.

    I am disappoint.
  14. If the first main room of the map is the large one with the two "bridges" and the columns and the "balcony" in the back, there's a room I constantly forget about where the guy seems to spawn most of the time for me. From the entrance, stay on the first floor and go to the right. There's a door on the right wall leading into a smaller office/cubicle space. Those sneaky Malta like to hide their hostage in one of the cubicles there.
  15. I use the Razer Mamba, their wireless mouse. Haven't had any problems with it, much better than the Logitech G7 I was using before.

Funny thing is, being Henchman 21, he'll actually think he's like Vader, too.

I now expect to hear a 21 = Vader, Monarch = Emperor comment from him soon.
  17. So I was just watching Masters of the Universe the other day. Weird seeing He-Man as a badguy, and knowing the guy who played Courtney Cox's boyfriend was directing.
  18. Would need me some 3g (or 4g) to be really portable. I wouldn't want to be limited to a Starbucks or something to use it.

Otherwise, it looks cool. As long as you could zoom in to various areas of the screen, it would work well for just chatting, or marketeering or costuming. Even something like playing a Scrapper, Brute, or Blaster would be very doable, as long as you don't care about reading the chat at the time.
  19. ... Does this guy get paid to write this crap? I want his job.
  20. Damn. Those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride.
  21. For some reason it reminds me of the Superman Returns suit. Hope to see more of it soon.
  22. Tough decision for me. As you say, all the edge cases should certainly be considered.

But in the end, option 1 sounds best.

And please leave in the static tails.

    EDIT:

I would actually love to see new versions of the patterns with some "depth" to them, so they look like they might be clothes and not simply painted on. However, I also agree that in these cases, the old, painted-on patterns should remain as options.
  23. Something I've wanted for a while now is more volume sliders. Dunno how feasible this would be, but as examples:

    • Sound FX (already have)
    • Music (already have)
    • Footsteps (affects only footstep SFX)
    • Ambient (affects only ambient sounds such as city noise, cave drips, maybe torch sounds, etc)
    • Ambient Music (affects things like boombox emotes, Ouro melody, Mr. Yin's store muzak, passing car beats. Basically music that is supposed to "be there" and isn't simply BGM.)

It would also be nice if the Ghoul Scream would be separated from the music slider and put into SFX(or Ambient if we had that slider) where it belongs.
  24. Agreed with everything people have said so far. And I'll add one more I found recently: at the foot of the large apartment buildings in Brickstown in front of the tram, there are a few walled-in grassy areas with a single concrete bench. Kind of a little urban hideaway that seemed peaceful to me.

Reminded me of that one bench area from the second(third?) Matrix movie where Neo meets with the Oracle. Bad movie, nice spot.
  25. I always thought it was in Mexico, southern Texas near the gulf, or southern Cali near the Pacific.

If you look at Tyrant's bio it says his fight with Hami happened right after the Mexicans tried nuking it when it got into Mexico via the southern border:
    Quote:
A giant monster had appeared somewhere in South America and was destroying every Praetorian Guard unit that encountered it. Entire cities were being leveled and the thing was moving steadily north toward Central America. When it crossed into Mexico, the Mexican government let loose with a small, but devastating stockpile of nuclear weapons they had purchased from America. They had no effect.

This was what Cole was destined for. Not wishing to see more of his Praetorian Guard killed, he went alone to face off against the beast. It was to be a showdown that would be remembered for all time.

    ...

Then, with a clap of thunder, the energy field around Cole shattered and the great beast shuddered, lumbered away, and then collapsed. Cole had defeated the beast, but he had also learned much more from his brief joining of minds.
And from the Praetoria Overview, it says that Praetoria is built on the site of Hami's defeat:
    Quote:
Praetoria stands at the location of Hamidon's first great defeat at the hands of Marcus Cole, the man who proved to the world that the Devouring Earth could be beaten.
While the time line isn't any kinds of, well, existent, it seems that after the Mexicans failed to do any damage to Hamidon while it was still in their country, Cole went down to fight it.

And while I know people will chime in and write this off as propaganda, what else do we have to go on? Going by the hobo's accounts of Praetoria being in what used to be the USA, then southern Texas or Cali, or even Louisiana as some have suggested, would make sense.

I also want to note that it's interesting that the Praetoria overview specifically mentions that it's the site of Cole's first defeat of Hami. And now I wonder if this wasn't a bit of a poorly-worded reference to Cole's first victory against the Devouring Earth in his campaign against them, and not Hamidon himself. If so, then yeah, Praetoria could be just about anywhere in the US, as per hobo-man.

It would be really nice if we could get a dev to chime in and actually tell us where Praetoria is. Or maybe someone could ask at PAX?
