    Psychic/Devices

Would I be setting myself up for fail? I honestly don't mind playing gimped power sets. I kind of enjoy it. I am not interested in /Mental or /Energy. The biggest problem I see is no other damage type besides Psychic outside of mines and my vet powers.

I consider SB to be a key power in the set and one of the main reasons to have a Kinetics character on the team.

Personally, if a Kin joins my team and won't SB the team, I generally make a note of the person and won't team with him again. I don't make a stink about it and generally don't say anything. I also won't kick somebody for that, but I can choose to avoid him in the future.
This. I generally won't say anything, but I make a note of it and won't invite them to future teams.

Also, I am especially annoyed when I see */Kin Controllers that not only have SB, but use it constantly on their pet(s), and never once buff the team. I also hate the people with SB that use it once at the start of the mish and once it goes away, they never rebuff it.

Like I said, I very very rarely say anything, but you get a major strike in my book.
  3. This was horribly done. Have you ever heard of Dyslexia? The way the codes were pasted on the images was just plain terrible. I am upset.
  4. Sonic Resonance.

I would imagine if someone were screaming really loudly at me, it would bother me more than help me.

    Mercenaries.

I love how all the mercs are holding huge guns and then decide, "hey, maybe I should run up and PUNCH this giant menacing robot/beast/sorcerer/etc... who needs a gun?"

The fact that Sonic Cage, and other enemy phase powers can't be shut off.

"Oh, sorry guys. I put this guy in a cage and I realize I control all aspects of sound and the manipulation of sound waves, but we just have to... ummm... wait for it to end."

Or better yet, make a new AT that is Assault Primary and Buff/Debuff secondary.
    Awesome idea!!!!
  6. Been wanting Poison for Defenders since CoV was first released.

I think it would "fit" better with Corruptors, but I'd rather play it as a primary.
  7. What powersets/Archetypes do you love to see on your team??

I personally love Ice Tanks, Thermal Corruptors or Controllers, Ice Controllers/Dominators, and Archery Blasters.
  8. I would loooooove Poison. I really wouldn't want it to have an AoE heal though.

  11. I personally run Sonic/Electric. The hold is nice and I constantly work with other controllers/doms/etc... to stack hold bosses. I also like the fire and forget pet and the end drain is useful as well. That said, I definitely feel that damage is a bit lacking and overall I could have picked a better set, but I enjoy it.

I have to agree with the above poster that the aggro from your AoE skills might hurt as Assault Rifle. Even with Short Circuit being my only AoE, I tend to draw unwanted aggro from it, which sucks when you are the only one without 3 shields.

Dual Pistols intrigues me with Sonic because I believe there is a Swap Ammo which reduces the enemy's damage they deal? I might be incorrect here as I haven't played DP, but if that's the case, it seems nice to reduce the damage they deal in addition to providing a team with shields to reduce damage taken.

I'm not asking for an OP power without any limitations. I would however, like it to be decent and a toggle is a simple solution.
  13. While certainly unique... I feel like it over-complicates things. Simple solution that has been recommended numerous times:

Make it a toggle. No other changes necessary. Just make the power a toggle and we're set.
  14. I want to reiterate that Disruption Field is a very expensive toggle and, coming from a Sonic Defender, the set's defining power. It should always be running.

Really recommend 3 slotting it with end rdx.

I'm also thinking that Sonic Barrier and Sonic Haven deserve at least 3 slots devoted to Resist Damage.
  15. Mercenaries. They look so bland. I think many more people would play them if they just had different skins.

The latter is more what I'm looking for, but if they are super uncommon and also good, then that's cool too. I just think a few of the "rare" ones named, are not so rare because they actually mesh nicely. They are just "rare" in comparison to like... Fire/Kin trollers. Haha!

Thematically it matches, in that both are very science-y "Atomic Man!/Nuclear Dude!/Cosmic Guy!" powersets. Mechanically, you have the opportunity to make or break your own usefulness, either by scattering mobs out of your debuffs if you play badly, or keeping them hemmed in if you use it well. You've played Storm, so I guess you understand knockback a little bit.

Mastermind - try Ninja/Force Fields. They need bubbles more than any other pet, and don't need much in the way of damage boosting. The fire and forget nature of FF would work well with pets that need a lot of attention. This combo is rare for concept reasons I guess - an ancient/magical primary with a futuristic/science secondary.
Not that either robot ninja or magical barriers are unheard of...
I might just roll a Rad/Energy. I dunno why I never thought of it, but that does really appeal to me. Yeah, I definitely understand knockback. My stormie was actually my first toon ever, but I kind of stuck her on the sidelines once PvP debuted and everyone suddenly saw just how l33t a Stormie could be for the first time which seemed to lead to a sudden influx of them in PvE as well.

I agree that FF goes amazingly well with Ninjas and yet is rarely chosen with them which makes it a rare set, but part of the reason I enjoy rare sets is because I like to try to mesh together iffy combos, whereas, FF is arguably the most recommended secondary to Ninjas and meshes extremely well. So, I don't see the fun in trying to make it work.

Grav/Sonic is also interesting. It's one of the two controllers I play (Girl Crush in my sig), and is definitely rare.
Agreed! That is rare and also cool! I actually considered rolling one a long time ago, but I think I play my main too much and am not interested in rolling another character with Sonic because I spend too much time playing one already, but props to you for playing that combo.

Edit - BTW I looked over the wiki page you set up for the character after I finished posting and was thoroughly impressed.

I have never in 2 years of playing seen an Ice/Trick Arrow Controller.
I've never seen that combo either. I'm considering it! I might roll one and level a bit and see how I like it. Thanks for the suggestion!

You're Shields buff the team's defense and your Earth gives -Def so your team can effectively fight higher level foes faster.
I forgot to mention that Earth/FF is a great set and seems like a lot of fun, but actually Earth/FF and Earth/Storm seem to be the most common Earth pairings I've seen. Although, Earth/* in general is rare. Hah!

No idea if it'll be any good, but it'll certainly be rare.
I actually really like the idea of DP/TA, or TA/DP, but I've noticed quite a lot of posts about it on the forums.

    Traps/Ice sounds cool.
  21. I am very addicted to playing rare or very uncommon powerset combination's. With Going Rogue I feel like I have a lot of options on my hands and am looking for something new. I generally like Defenders, Dominators, MM's, Corruptors, and Controllers. I can never seem to get into playing Brutes, Blasters, Tanks, Stalkers, or Scrappers. Also, my main is a Sonic/Electric Defender and I also have a TA/Ice, and Storm/Psy that I play often. Not sure if I am willing to repeat any of those sets because I also like trying new things. Any ideas what might be good??

    Ill/Sonic pve

Is this for teaming or soloing?

If it is mainly for teaming I would recommend the following powers from Sonic...

All three shields, Clarity, Liquefy, Sonic Disruption, and (if you feel you would use it on AVs) Sonic Cage.

If it is mainly for Soloing, I would skip Clarity and instead take Sonic Repulsion.

    [ QUOTE ]
I was wondering about liquefy's usefulness. I have a bubbler def and i've found its cage is decent at best. My big plan was to use it on nictus healer but never got it to work, as i've seen from threads here lately that it wasn't just me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am not sure if you meant to say "Sonic Cage," rather than Liquefy or if you are wondering about both powers.

I myself have never tried Sonic Cage on the Nictus Healer, but I believe if FF's Cage doesn't affect it, Sonic's wouldn't either. That being said, Cage does definitely come in handy on AV fights.

As for Liquefy, the hold is very minor, the damage is very low, and the knockdown is very minor all on a LONG recharge. That being said, the -tohit debuff and the -defense debuff are amazing. Slot it 3 Rch 3 -tohit OR 3 Rch 3 -defense. I wouldn't recommend a mix of the debuffs.
  23. I agree with a lot of what Dr. Mike said.

Although I have never tried Sonic on a Controller, I do throw out my buffs to controllers and their pets.

If you are talking solo, I believe the pet that works best with Sonic Disruption is more important than which pet will work best with the shields imo. If you pet dies, you can always resummon, but if you have a finicky pet that refuses to get in range, it will effect you throughout your entire career and greatly frustrate you.

Fire would be amazing for this reason. Your imps are guaranteed to get in range and the mez protection and shields will benefit them well. For solo I could even see Sonic Cage being useful for a Fire troller. The tough enemies really hurt the imps and if the imps wait to focus on the bigger foes, they can easily be destroyed. Toss out a Sonic Cage on a tough boss and your pets are free to destroy the rest then take out the boss once the cage ends.

Although Illusion's pets have knockback and you can't buff Army with shields, the pets still tend to go into range often. If you are taking on a tough foe, you might even find use out of Sonic Repulsion on your Phantom while he blasts the foe from range.

Ice and Earth just don't have the damage and (from what I've heard) both pets can also be annoying with their ranged attacks and their refusal to go to melee.

IMO - Fire/Illusion/Earth/Ice in that order would be the most worthwhile.

Oh Lord, we didn't open the AE argument again did we?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't mean to open a can of worms. Like I said, I just came back to the game. My question about Cold Defenders has been answered and I thank everyone for it. Let's just end things there ^^
  25. Thanks everyone for your comments. I think the majority believe it isn't rare, but it is definitely not common either. So, sounds good. I honestly really want to roll one now, but like I said... I just came back to the game and I was shocked at something... AE! From what I have seen, it has ruined the game imho!

I am not sure if I am in the mood to level a new character during this time

I made the character for fun anyways though

Anyone know any good SGs on Freedom that aren't based around AE?
