...for my Arachnos Spider. Yeah I know, everyone has been there, done that. However, not me! lol
My dilemma is I am not sure which way I want to take this guy.
I like the look of the Crab as well as the abilities they have available. Likewise, I do like what the Bane Spider has to offer, including the one ability I would use to my advantage, Cloaking Device. However, it comes down to their different specialties.
I know there are advantages and disadvantages for both; however, what I'm looking for between the two, which is better at soloing and works equally as well with a team without having to add whatever number of IO sets to get them to a soft cap immediately. This is something I when I reach 47.
Conversely, if I take this Crab/Bane Spider to Hero side and ultimately become a Vigilante, will I still be able to do the patron arch for the Patron Power Pools? Additionally, will I have to stay a rogue, stay in Rogue Isle to end up speaking with Arbiter Daos to choose my patron then?
I welcome your opinions on this before making my choice. Thanks. -
Wow, thanks all. I believe I'll go with my gut on Sonic/Sonic. I've never used this power type before and I have witnessed it first hand. I intend to solo and team up with this defender. Thanks again!
My I introduce to you...Siren Shrike! Defender of truth and justice with a large set of lungs and loud mouth! lol -
...Defender since my Kin/DP reached 50 and well on her way into being an Incarnate.
I am looking at three different character types here. All are direct fire support; however, I'm not sure which main power that would pair with them. Here's what I'm looking at.
#1 - Trick Arrow / Archery - or - Traps / Archery - or - Time Manipulation / Archery
#2 - Traps / Beam Rifle - or - Force Field / Beam Rifle - or - Empathy / Beam Rifle.
#3 - Empathy / Sonic - or - Thermal / Sonic - or - Sonic / Sonic.
This is my second defender I intend to take to 50. I've never used these powers so I am curious of what I listed, which are the best for paring. Conversely, if you have a suggestion for another primary type, please do so. Thanks! -

This was done in a game universe a number of years ago I wrote for. However, instead of taking PC, the name of the person(s), (two winners), were cannonized into the main storyline. It was really cool too. It got to the point that us writers were putting in people's names as NPCs throughout the storyline. However, the new line developer put a stop to it and ultimately we had to kill them all off in the massive war that ravaged the entire universe. However, they are part of the game's history now.
I think I'd be willing to give up one of my characters to become a member of the Freedom Phalanx. I do have some emotional attachment to each one; however, I know I can set that aside for the honor of being part of game lore in such a prestigious group. -
Hey, Quantumshock has the hots for Flambeaux. He's taken her out on a couple of dates. He's hoping the two of them can become serious. He's a sucker for redheads....lol

Quote:Anchor, I cannot thank you enough for sharing this. I'd never read it before. I shall not forget it either! I laughed so hard I cried. Thank you, thank you, thank you...He used to do some very funny scripted dialogue next to Paragon City's payphones.

So...was Ascendent able to get the Saul to use the proper name for his hideout or is A-Hole stuck forever? BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA -
Hmm...from what I am reading it sounds like some of these ATO specific IO sets are either hit or miss. I'm beginning to wonder if they will be worth the investment.

New Dawn & Nihilii, thank you for your advice. I shall look at my build again with your suggestions in mind.
Deacon, your critical analysis on what I used in the slots is something for me to look at again. However, the part about using Transfusion instead of using Aid Self, I agree. I do not agree with using a temporary rez over a permanent power though. However, in order for me to obtain Health's rez, I am forced to take Stimulate Others and Aid Self. Stimulate Others does not replicate any power found in Kinetics. Stimulate releases others from sleep, immobile, held, fear and any other hold type effect.
Ogi, I do not even know what you're even implying. However, if you ask anyone of my SG members or those she's teamed with, they'll tell you she is a heck of a defender and appreciate her being on their team.
FYI,
I looked back at my character last night and found I did have Transfusion. I am confused why it didn't list it originally. I have it slotted with 5 Numnia's and Miracle's Proc. I originally had Touch of the Nictus; however, I found Numnia's far more effective than using the former. With a 12% (for both Numnia sets) boost in healing powers, I am happy with that result.
Last night I took my defender on her mission to unlock her Alpha Slot. My teammate was a 44th lvl MM (Demons). When we fought Trapdoor, I did not have to put him in the lava nor did I require a tank. I defeated him in less than 3 minutes, which surprised the living crap out of me after my last encounter with him using my Tank and Brute with another teammate.
When we faced the turncoat captain and Honoree, things ultimately forced me to call in reinforcements from my SG. However, I can proudly say that during that fight, I stood toe to toe with both of them and managed to get Hero I down to less than half his hit point before he put me down. Fulcrum Shift with God knows how many Rikiti around turned our team into monsters (which I expected as it did in the past). I didn't have any luck, but I did have a few sturdy and rugged inspirations I did pop. Hero 1 hit on every 5th or 6th try. I attribute that to combat jumping & acrobatics. Even when he did hit me with his alpha attack, I did not go down, not once. Transfusion provided 500 hit points at a pop. I had to to time my attacks so I could benefit from it though. One thing I did notice is she went to sleep a lot when hit with psi attacks. I always like sleeping on the job.
After completing that and unlocking my Alpha slot, my SG members and I went on to do Numnia's TF. Throughout that entire TF, the performance of this character was far above what it was before I respec'd her. Numerous times Stimulate Others and Resuscitate came in handy, as did Recall Friend. Her healing outperformed the Empath Controller and 2 MM (all of us were at 40 for this TF) as much as two times for HP generated. We were done with this TF in 1 hour 38 minutes.
I know what my defender's performance and survivability before my respec. It pales in comparison to her performance from last night. However, this does not mean I am completely satisfied. I always look for ways to improve. This is why I came here and asked. Some of you may not agree with the power selection or their slotting. However, you have probably not teamed up with her. I believe that if you had, you might change your mind on the results; then again, you might not. -
It seems to me it almost sounds like a pipe dream for a Widow or Crab to reach any where near their HP Cap. To do so, one would have to have all the accolades and multiple IO sets (not to violate the rule of 5) to increase the HP to get close enough.
However, there are only 3 villain accolades that raise HPs, Born in Battle (5%), High Pain Threshold (10%), and Invader (5%). I don't see those bumping the HP up all that much. Even if you have 1550 HP, 20% of that is 210 HP giving you a total of 1860 HP. The IO sets only bump up so much. I mean if you happen to have slotted 5 Mako (1.5% = 7.5% and 5 Stupefy (1.88% = 9.4%) (or some IO sets that offer those health increases) for a total of 16.9% increase. You can reach 2174.34. I have to look at my Widow again because I think this is what I did and off the top of my head I am not sure I broke the 2,000. It can be done, just takes a lot of study, research, time, and mucho grande influence. -
The old saying goes, 'You can save some of the people most of the time, but you cannot everyone all of the time.'
There are times that regardless of the amount healing done by one or three healers, characters will faceplant. It is for those times I selected Rez and along with it Recall Friend to avoid it being interrupted.
Quote:Since you need no advice, I wish you best of luck with your new build.
Quote:Originally Posted by KnightofKhonsuAs the title shows, I am planning on a major respec of my Defender after I reach level 50. I have noted a major deficiency in using my Kinetics that I am unable to rez a fallen teammate.
Therefore, I am entertaining the idea of dropping a few of my 'other powers' from the power pool, (air superiority, afterburning, stealth, and invisibility) and replacing them with the following:
- Aid Self (really need this because I'm tire of sleeping on the job.)
- Stimulate
- Resuscitate
Likewise, to better aid fallen teammates, add in 'Recall Friend.' For myself, I am going to add Teleport and Jaunt (Long range T-port) since I'm not using any epic powers with this toon. (The reason I am not using epic powers is I am not happy with any of them and they do not fit my toon's make up. Incarnate will be a different story, as I will have a number of things I can do with that.)
I'm thinking this will better enhance my defender's ability to help the team when I'm the lone healer or as another rez source if there's another healer on the team.
Does anyone one have any pointers, suggestions, or complaints on what I'm planning here or does this make sense seeing what my defender's job is within the team setting? Thanks. -
Quote:I don't know why the data didn't print with it like last time. I'll see if I can correct that next time.First off the link is not working so even trying to view the source for the page is not showing the link. So you have something broken there. I would suggest posting up a Data Chunk.
Quote:It is obvious that you could care less about game mechanics and that is fine. I do not think you can get a real answer for your build because you are really playing your build for yourself and not looking to max something out per say. So having someone comment on your play style build isn't going to give you answers I think you will like to hear.
I did notice I made a very big mistake. I left out her mainstay support power, healing. I'll have to fix that tonight when I get home. I do not know how I left that out. I guess doing a respec at midnight was not such a good idea. Anyway, with all she is capable with using kinetics; she lacked one power I wish that set had, rez. Sure, I could have looked for temporary rez powers. That is it they are temporary. Going with health is the better alternative, which allows me to help with Stimulate, and rez.
Yes, I intend to use kick since I do not have enough melee defensive powers. Therefore, this will compliment my Sands of Mu. As for slotting combat jumping & health like the one I did, it gave me better defensive modifiers especially adding Acrobatics (now I have knockback protection where I never had it before). I could have gone with "boxing, tough, & weave; however, she's not a melee specialist. There again, those powers do not fit with my character's primary design.
She is an outstanding healer. She keeps the team at peak health even in such missions like saving Statesman or any of the other Praetorian missions. With her healing, speed boosting, density increasing, endurance transference, and fulcrum shift powers, she does a great job in supporting the team. My SG members and others, who I teamed with in the past, request her on consistent bases. That is a compliment on her abilities.
Likewise, using her Dual Pistols I do so in support as the team, never as an attacker like a blaster, corruptor, or dominator. Since my healing requires a target, I rarely make a direct healing "attack" against a target. I target through one of our team's tanks or brutes. Because I know what happens when I use Hail of Bullets or Empty Clips without targeting through a tank or brute.
The truth of the matter, this characters designed fulfills the support role and she does a stellar job at it. I could do what you suggest; however, then she will not be what I designed her for. In my mind she'd be a weaker version of a blaster. She is a defender, and she does an exemplary job at defending and supporting her team. -
Here's what I ended up with last night after obtaining lvl 50. I think she's better suited to do what I envison her to do now. Your thoughts and critism are welcome.

This. I think this one had a profound affect on me when I saw all of those whom I saved or helped waiting for me to send me off. Talking to each one put a lump in my throat, especially when Tunnel Rat speaks to you. She is one character from Praetoria I really liked.

Quote:Your synopsis is spot on for all three, nice job. Of the three storylines, Pia Marino's had more of an impact on me. The build up to saving Wretch, having him thank you, then turning around and saving Ghost Widow and her thanks that was the icing on the cake for me.------
*Captain Deitrich breaking down after Lt. Tendaji's death at Nemesis' hands. It's not JUST a tender moment, no, it's also a heavy one, but we see a hard woman finally crack and show some humanity. We see the affection she had for her colleague and friend, we see that there is a real person behind the façade. It's sad, yes, but it's also moving in a very big way, and the resolve Captain Deitrich leaves with is commendable. This is the the point where she stops being a character and becomes a real person. It's not a big plot point, but I personally find it quite moving
*Indigo reminiscing about Melvin Langley after his rescue, talking about how nice it is to meet someone who isn't trained to kill or turn into a monster or such. The entire time, Indigo holds up a demeanour of disconnected sarcasm and disconnected humour, almost as though the horrible work of a spy is fun. It's in that one moment of affectionate aside, however, that she finally reveals that she is human after all, and that her job really is that hard and that horrible. It's not even a big thing, noting about love or even friendship. This is just one woman forced into a tough job who shows a private, personal emotion. And honestly, I think it's very sweet.
*Pia Marino and Ghost Widow accepting their fates. Pia is perhaps one of the most believable characters in the game, going from disconnected worry, to anger and revenge, to acceptance and coping with her grief. When she finally realises the fate of her former friend and her brother, her training to not show emotion fails, and we see the person behind the red helmet, and it's a woman who has lost her family. And though it is a sad moment, it still shows the affection that Pia has for her brother even in the face of impossibility. "It all hurts too much, indeed." Ghost Widow, in turn, is proven to be an outright tragic figure, living an existence against her will, forced into her life as a servant of Arachnos, with only Wretch, the abomination who understands her pain. Like two wounded souls, they try to heal each other's minds as best they can "trapped in [their] strange half-lives." It shows affection, if desperate such, born out of adversity and damnation, and I personally find it to be quite pretty.
------
Tender moments or moments of levity do enhance the story and give the reader (in this case the participant) a moment to reflect, laugh, morn, or take a deep breath. Situations that are fast paced, full of tension, conflict, or full of tragedy sometime need to have a moment that can disarm or give pause allowing a moment of respite. -
There's another tender moment and it comes at the end of Protean's arch when your "alternate self" dies in the end. At that moment "your death" turns things real for the character of what the ultimate sacriface is. Your alternate willingly give up his/her life, the question is, is your real character able to do so. That's what I get from the story's climatic ending.

Quote:Heh heh heh...thanks. I want to tweak her a bit and improve in the areas she's lacking bit in. HOwever, like you, I absolutely love Foot Stomp. Therefore, I will slot Armageddon for that power instead of Scirocco's Dervish. On the other hand, I could split the two enhancement types like I have with Hurl using Devastation & Apocalypse. Then again, after looking at what Armageddon gives with a full set, I may just slot all of it. Just have to look hard and long and plan accordingly. You have atrocious penmanship and you dress in the manner of a male prostitute. There, Critiqued.
seriosly though I ran a SS/Will Brute for almost 6 months with 5 sets of purples and tons of other recharge heavy stuff. He was a hoot. Spamming Footstomp is more effective than you might believe to making a Willpower like a god, although it is a very different strategy than something smart like softcapping defense. Lotta fun! I am halfway considering a SS?Will Brute for my Badger project. There is no set that compares with SS after all. If I do that I will build out a softcapped to as much as easiily possible. S/L, of course. I will also be slapping on a decent amount of recharge, at least enough to stack Rage. The point of my build will be to use it as a platform for Patron attacks and Incarnate abilities. I am also considering a Scrapper, but I hate weapons, and am picky. I really want a Scrapper, but I am down to MA Elec DM and cannot say any of those are impressing me. -
Quote:Agreed. They could use the SSA for that and play it out over time, much like DC & Marvel do with their heroes/villains. That could develop over 6 to 18 months before the finale.Obviously, you can sell this any number of ways, but a trip like this could put Recluse over REALLY strongly and put his name back on the map. And honestly, after acting like a small fish bully all these years, he needs it. A bit more humanity, a bit more authority and we have an awesome villain on our hands.
Honestly, though, having a former leader return and everyone immediately going "Oh, ****!" and backing down is one of the best ways to put a villain over
Most importantly, allowing the players to influence outcomes by decisions or actions could really make the SSA's more of an impact on the game for those players. As you see after successfully completing Matthew Habashy and Aron Thiery's storylines. -
What side do you pick more than others?
I prefer the hero side; however, I do play the villain side for a more rounded experience and knowledge of the game.
What play style do you prefer?
I prefer both team and soloing. When working on a new or newer character, I like to solo them for a while to learn their abilities and best way to use them as I develop their character.
What power set(s) do you favor?
Wow...let's see, currently I'm having fun with Energy Melee, Martial Arts, Dual Pistols, Kinetics, Earth Assault, and a few others.
What zones do you like the most?
I don't have a preference, I enjoy all of them as I'm leveling
Do you usually play as a male or female (word of hatred) ''toon''?
I play both equally.
Views on Role Playing?
I started RPing back when AD&D 1.0 was going strong and Traveller was the premire SciFi RP game. I love RPing when I get the chance. (BTW, I know I just dated myself.)
Servers?
Mostly on Freedom. However, I've started on the other servers to participate in Tanker Tuesday when I can. -
Quote:This is one helluva good observation. With everything written on or about Recluse, doing something exactly or near enough what you suggest, would be completely within his established character. Recluse is not some chaotic evil villain that enjoys wanton destruction. He does things with a purpose that will benefit him and Arachnos.Recluses' boyfriend got killed, so I imagine he'll cry in bed for a while, then try to kill Darryn Wade under the pretext of wanting his power.
Seriously, though, Recluse and Statesman are not joined at the hip, and it's to the story's detriment to always bring one when the other is mentioned. That alone is responsible for much of Recluse's failure to be a legitimate villain after all this time. If he had actual, meaningful ambitions of any kind, I could buy his villainy, but all the man seems to care about is killing the Statesman. It's as if he took over Arachnos and uses its vast resources for no reason above and beyond killing the Statesman. He doesn't seem to have a plan beyond that, and this kind of "spurned lover" storytelling is not conducive to a major villain. Ever notice how many people drop the "Lord" part of his name these days?
Now that the Statesman is dead, what would Recluse do? Probably invade. If we view him as a legitimate villain with broader ambitions who was only fixating on the Statesman as the one true stumbling block to his context, it only makes sense. The Statesman is gone, and now there's nothing stopping Recluse from taking over, or at least attempting to.
---
Truth be told, I'd love to see Recluse do a face turn, with "He may have been an enemy, but he was still my friend!" angle. Honestly, as much as he's the head of Arachnos, the way the story is written, he's mostly just a figurehead anyway, and his Patrons fight each other constantly anyway. I say have Recluse walk out and let the Patrons fight it out for control. It can't make chaos within Arachnos ranks any worse than it is. And if they need an arbiter to keep them in check, that's what Arbiter Daos is for. Have HIM sit at the helm. instead of standing in the lobby.
I'd sell it thusly: After many years of fighting the Statesman, Recluse finally realises that he this rivalry has become part of his life, and part of what defines his purpose. Losing that purpose causes him to stop and think about his life, to think about what he's really trying to achieve, and to realise that there's nothing to be gained in this madness but more pain and more loneliness. He's surrounded by people, but they don't love him, or indeed even like him. With all the power and control in the world, he'd still be alone in his ivory tower. The one person who could understand him is now dead and gone, the one stable purpose he had is now missing. What, really, is the point of carrying on? What does Recluse want out of life, anyway?
The Letter Writer says that of all the Incarnates, Recluse is the smartest. Instead of resigning to his fate of being mind-controlled by the Well or trying to renounce his powers, he looks for a way to defy the well, but keep his Incarnate powers. If anyone has the answer on how to reach the power we need to fight back the coming storm without being the Well's puppet, it would be him, and that would bring a LOT of leverage if he decided to negotiate with the heroes.
Especially now that the Statesman is dead and the heroes have a more hated enemy. Especially since it's been so long since Recluse did anything major. Especially since Marcus was still his friend and he would hate Darryn as much as they do, and offer to help fight him. It could actually make for a very powerful scene between a disowned Recluse working alone and a grieving Miss Liberty. It could bring a clash of their resentment for each other, mixed with their respect for a fallen hero. It could bring an actual subtle human emotion to the table.
Recluse has the look, feel and mannerisms of a good villain, but he's lost street cred as one. Now would be the best time to turn him into a hero, or at the very least a rogue and have it stick. Arachnos can remain behind him, Daos can get a new look and pull the reigns on Arachnos now that Recluse is gone and "survival of the fittest" is not the order of the day. I would buy that. Hell, I'd like to see it!
What I would believe and think it would add more depth to what you suggest is he does help in locating and aid in destroying Wade. However, while he is seeking vengeance for a fallen bitter foe he respected and deep down a friend no matter where they ended up, he would have some secret agenda that could put him in a position to supplant Statesman’s former position and/or gain more respect by the people and heroes alike of Paragon City. Recluse does not do things without some series thought behind it in seeking some plausible outcome to improve his position or power.
Yeah, I would like to see something along the lines you have suggested. I think it would bust this game wide-open turning into something dynamic with endless possibilities. -
Quote:Thank you, this is what I was looking for. To answer your question, yes, I have about 2.5 billion invested. Even though this toon's performance has been stellar, I've felt something was missing for awhile. This became more evident to me as I read a number of threads on this very issue. I'll take a real hard look at what you've posted and see what I can do to make the necessary changes. There is almost nothing about this build that doesn't need to be changed...snip...By the way, which Incarnate powers do you have? I don't see them in your Mids build.
As for my Incarnate information not showing, I guess I didn't select it. This is the first time for me to use this program. I can tell you them from memory though, and verify them when I get back home.
Alpha: Musculature Radial Paragon
Judgement: Pyronic Core Final Judgement
Interface: Reactive Radial Flawless Interface
Lore: (Working on a few of them for flexibility)- Seers: Total Core Improved Ally
- Warworks: Total Core Improved Ally
- Arachnos: Core Ally

- Rebirth Partial Radial Invocation
There are a few powers I plan on changing out now that I don't have to have things like hover and the likes. I want to add something from Fighting too. Again, thank you for your time and opinion. -
...tell me areas I can improve on her. Thanks.

I'm using it on my tank (SD/Mace). I really enjoy using it after a shield charge and whirling mace.
