It's not that bad. It could definitely better showcase something about the game... Maybe showing Statesman (+friends), Lord Recluse (+buddies), and Emporer Cole (+homie Gs) about to engage in a 3-way clash.
Or, maybe a better idea: Rotating login screens. Have a number of different screens, and each time at startup randomly select one. You could have different screens showing off different aspects of the game... maybe each one featuring a different faction!
- Paragon's sig heroes
- Arachnos' top guys
- Cole&friends (with a clockwork in the background watering some plants)
- Circle of Thorns
- Skullz (gathered on the street, with one in the background spray painting or something)
- Malta (making them shadowy figures)
- Nemesis soldiers (with the text 'The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems!')
- Random scenes with players?
The ideas are endless! They could set it so that on first run it'll show a specific screen, and then after that it'll pick one at random (via a registry flag showing whether it's the first run or not), so that they can have the initial one something that'll represent the game well for a new player, while keeping it interesting. -
Quote:City of Data agrees with you (and so do II'm pretty sure the so-called "fear" they took out WAS called "avoid." It never had "terrorize," the effect that makes them cower in place, and there isn't a "fear" effect per se, as far as I know.

You might possibly be able to sell it for more in the future... but you might also not be able to sell it for as much in the future. I'd say to just sell it now, because otherwise you could on for it for the rest of eternity... and unless you plan on slotting it, it's doing nothing for you in its current form

It's called lag
(the targeting this is called accidentally changing your target

Quote:Extra tip: You don't need notepad open, just ctrl+a, ctrl+c (cmd+a, cmd+c on a mac, IIRC)... ctrl+a selects the full contents of the text edit, ctrl+c copies! You can pull off this super sekret ninja technique in a billionth of a second, due to the close proximity of the a and c keys!Yeah, forum logout bug has been around for waaay too long. Tip; have notepad open in the background, and copy posts that are particularly long and/or annoying to type again before hitting 'submit'. (Granted, I never seem to learn from my own advice, and get burned by the bug with annoying frequency.)

Quote:It's in your system tray? That means it's already running! Check using alt tab/minimizing all windows individually to make sure it's not actually open in the background. If you've installed the beta client, it'll first pop up a dialog (that doesn't make a task bar entry!) telling you it's about to bring up the UAC prompt (assuming you don't manually run it as Administrator- but you shouldn't), and it'll generally pop that up behind everything else!Been having this problem for a couple days now.
If I click on the Launcher from my desktop or my start menu I get nothing. It doesn't appear on my Task Manager it's basically as though I never clicked it.
If I click on the Launcher icon in my Sys-Tray then I get the Launcher to appear in my Taskbar and it also appears on my Task Manager list but it does NOT pop up on my desktop.
This is getting ridiculous. I haven't played the game in nearly a week between Irene's power outage and this new little Launcher issue.
Quote:I have exactly the same problem. Every time I launch the game now I have to start minimising windows and playing hunt-the-dialogue-box behind them.
Paragon... please tell NCSoft that their crappy launcher is pissing off your playerbase! -
Quote:If there's an announce out there, there's a malware that does it. Remember to always keep your OS, browser, and plugins up to dateLooks like that's it. Was surfing from work and on a different PC now and it's not happening. You know us old guys, quick to fly off the handle at the slightest change. Honestly i didn't even know there was a spyware/foistware that could do that?

Those don't have the potential to drastically cut down the amount of time people invest in playing the game. Being able to basically buy your way to 50 on a new powerset, I'd hazard, would result in many people spending a lot less time playing (which will translate into less money for NCSoft). The question is, does the shortening of play time and the corresponding less of incoming from that exceed the income made from lessing the powerset/AT respec (I'd say probably).

People are afraid of Super Stunners?
The only reason I even noticed them was because of the instant self rez! Definitely sounds like the leader was coming from another game and had zero clue how things worked in CoH (being an emp that didn't use the good powers in empathy is a dead give away!).

They changed this quite a number of issues back. It was partly changed because +recharge would screw over some of the pets AIs!

Quote:You can use the Wisp aura at character creation. I've many <30 characters with itJust off the top of my head, is the Wisp aura treated as a 'regular' aura where you can only access it after you unlock auras at level 30? The booster packs you paid money for make their costume parts (capes, auras) available at level 1.
(including some <5s!)
Once the in-game story is back up we'll be able to tell definitively one way or the other! -
You can't make SoA on blue side, nor Khelds on red.
It'll work just the same as now: you must be on red side at the time to unlock the patrons (now at level 35).
There are no hero epics for SoA, nor hero patrons, nor any APPs for Khelds. -
Quote:According to the Announcements, this happened on the 4th, which is well before I made the last character with it... I thought it was only for people that hadn't unlocked it at all.I believe it was announced that the Wisp Aura was going away, as a new option, shortly after the switch to the NCSoft Launcher. Any character that already claimed the aura, gets to keep it.
That seems like a definite possibility! It's showing as down for me also (well, it gives me the option to buy new slots, but not redeem the slot I still have to place!). Hopefully it'll be back once the store is up. -
I was just going to create a new character and noticed that the wisps aura is gone from the 'auras' section of the character creator (I've only the Cyborg pack auras available now). I've made several characters with the wisps aura, including one from about a week and a half ago (which still can access it at Icon).
I've restarted the NCSoft Launcher, CoH, and logged into then out of a character (to see if that'd cause the unlock to retrip), but no luck. Any ideas? -

Yes. Set bonuses do not care if the power is on or not.
The only case where you have to care whether the power is on are for individual IOs that are procs/act like procs (such as the Kismet: +To Hit), but not things like LotG+Recharge that act like a global set bonus. ParagonWiki generally has information for all the specifics -
Quote:There's still a number of good maps in PI for farming. Not as good, but quite good none the less (and, generally, much more forgiving of the build... ambush farms will be a pain with SOs!). BM is always a classicThanks for the input.
Just noticed that you don't get to play AE with rewards as a Prem until tier 4. So, so much for that idea = / -
AFAIK, that was not a powerset, it was just a signature hero (all of which are now in CoX, I believe!).

Quote:How do you know that those sets are more fun? What if you changed to /DA or /SR and suddenly realized... hey now, this set is EVEN WORSE! Time to raise it to two switches? And then when the next one still sucks? Just three, right?I have one character for instance that is Scrapper (which I do not need to change, or see any reason to do so), the powerset choices are Martial Arts and Regeneration, which I do not find very entertaining. Changing to Dark armor or Super reflexes, IMO, are much more fun combinations. But there is no way to do that.
You should be able to see where I'm going with this.
Also, what's stopping you from rerolling? You don't like MA/Regen? Just change it! Don't want to delete it? Make a new character! There are already ways you can deal with the problem. You could try arguing that those solutions aren't good enough, but right now you're not, you don't address them at all. -
Fire/Kin Controller. They're very easy to play, and you could probably farm decently well without enhancements. Although, remember that Freem accounts have a lower inf cap, depending on what Tier they're at, so that might curtail your farming efforts!

Champions tried a more free form system... apparently that didn't work so well for them.
AE puts restrictions on it- i.e. no primary defense/secondary defense! Balance is a huge part of it (how do you balance a melee/melee character with a melee/defense, or ranged/defense, or ranged/ranged, etc?), but balance also impacts fun: the goal is to not only curtail the overpowered builds, but limit the number of gimped builds people (primarily new people) can make inadventantly, and then have a horrible experience. Balance and fun go hand in hand... the balance of the powersets is what lets me think about fun in this game more than 'which powerset won't suck to play?'!
What combinations of powersets do you miss, anyways? Seems that a couple new ATs could cover most any 'desirable' combinations that are missing, without making balance a nightmare.
Edit: Miss this part at first...
Quote:Because the powerset is considered a fundamental aspect of the character. Because the Devs don't like the idea of you having a 50 with zero experience with it. Because the Devs don't want you to start with a more early-blooming set, then respec into a late-blooming set (something they also try to address via balance). Because the Devs don't want a level 50 of a new powerset/AT 5 minutes after an issue goes live (though, you can do it in a day from PLing if you try hard enough...). Take your pick, or come up with many more!My question would then be this...Why do the restrictions on power sets in character creation exist, and why can't you change your original power set choice when respeccing?
The idea sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth... what if Batman suddenly could shoot beams from his eyes and read peoples minds, but lost his martial arts/gadgets/everything that makes him batman (then again, I'm sure some crappy alternate universe one has done that... but I don't like comics anyways). CoH has always encouraged alting, so the idea of just 'respecing' a character into a totally different build would sort of go against that... Freem accounts in Freedom will have less space to alt without paying anything, but VIPs will have even more space.
I'd only support the idea of respecing to different 'ATs' if it was more so like how VEATs work. Not that you're really changing your 'AT'/'powersets', but that you change to a different emphasis (like I believe the new Starwars MMO allows each 'class' to spec out in different ways... such as any to be a tank/healer/etc... although CoH is good at ignoring the whole holy trinity thing anyways).
I think alting is the solution to all of life's problems -
City Traveller will also become obsoleted, as everyone will be able to use travel powers at level 4, instead of 6/14. Epics/Patrons will also become unlockable/usable at level 35 now, which might change up your build a fair bit.

Make sure the launcher isn't open in the background with a dialog box opened. I noticed it started doing this for me when I installed the CoH Subscriber Beta. Worst case, you could simply reinstall the launcher (I don't think that'll ever force a reinstall of CoH... but not sure).

Light Form will only make you glow now (but no ball), and will let you shift to Dwarf/Nova. The rest I can't answer

It might help us if you run HiJack This and post the log, so we know what other programs are running and (possibly) causing this issue. A CoH Helper log also couldn't hurt.
