I think it was late last year that I saw him on a ustream, along with Beastyle... I think it was the Freedom launch? I was actually surprised he was still around after all these years! Ahh... good times!

Quote:No no, I meant if you had only the default slots on a server, then the default slots are automatically reunlocked. If you had bought any more (and possibly made characters in that slot, I'm not sure which of the two it goes by), then you have to unlock them each. That's not what happened to me when my subscription briefly lapsed a couple of months ago. All my characters stayed locked, including the first 12, and I had to manually unlock them all.
Quote:Personally I found it a pita, but as the OP said, at least you get the unlocks, so with a bit of effort you can fix it. ).

Quote:I see there being two sides to "science fiction"... there's the type like you described (that's the definition I actually like), and then there's the "scifi setting" type... which is basically take any story and throw it into space/replace the gun with a ray gun/paint the women green/etc, and suddenly it's "science fiction", even though the plot/story didn't care in the slightest.
Although there's a lot of debate over the margins, I believe the best way to describe the overall difference is that Science Fiction deals with the consequences of the scientific details of the story as a major element of the plot or context in which the plot exists. Basically, Science Fiction is fiction that incorporates science critically and not tangentially.
Admittedly, I only ever actually take the position that science fiction is a subset of fantasy to piss off one person that's obsessed with scifi, but loathes fantasy... I also refer to vulcans as "elves", because it amuses me greatly. -
Quote:So... do you think every Greek story involving Zeus was "written" (spoken) by a single guy? Tarterus? Atlas? Prometheus? (Mot isn't Greek, but same idea) What Cryptic/Paragon/NCSoft has done, if anything, is actually honoring the Greek traditions of story telling. For you to say what you've said in this thread makes you look very ignorant of both Greek mythology/culture, as well as modern Western culture.Right, it is a legal point involving corporate cash rather than an ethical or creative choice. How appropriate in that case that they should steal from the founders of Western analytical and ethical thought. Carry on.
To call any of that "stealing"... wow... I hope you never run across any of Marvel's "Thor" comics and realize their incredibly obvious inspiration for the character.
Hint: They basically lifted all of Norse mythology -
Quote:I'll only approve this thread's suggestion if I can have all your "ridiculous" super speed effectsOf all the things I desperately want to see in CoH, the prospect of removing the RIDICULOUS effects of Super Speed remains close to the top.

Quote:IIRC, wasn't this said pretty much at/near launch of Brutes? Since then, there's been a massive reunderstanding of how Fury actually works in practice, along with Fury being completely changed a few (several?) issues back. They pretty much said that this would never happen because of the Fury mechanic, but I don't see why Scrappers couldn't have all that, as well as Stalkers getting a version of Ice Melee.
It's pretty easy now to sustain good levels of Fury entirely from your own attack chain (try attacking the training dummies in Vanguard's base), so I don't see that as being a major issue. If it does negatively impact generation in some way (it shouldn't take a huge amount of play testing to reveal that), then tweaking the set to compensate in some way should make it an acceptable trade off (such as buffing the survivability, or giving it some extra mechanic or something). For either Ice set or Spines. -
Quote:Just off the top of my head... Zeus, Tartarus, Prometheus, Mot. I bet other posters could easily triple this list in 5 minutes.ps, they stole that icon from ancient Greek mythology? I thought they were all into never copying other peeps stuff?
Mythology has always been perfectly okay. It's using characters other people own that you can't do... because NCSoft can be sued (not just can, but Marvel did sue over the possibility of players creating their characters in CoH). i.e. Any character that's currently protected by trademark or copyright in the US or other countries NCSoft operates in (primarily trademark). -
Subscription is the same as VIP ("VIP" was even called that before the freem option was added).

Quote:Yes, but, unlikely other self resistance powers that boost resistance, it is not set to unresistible according to CoD. Meaning it should be resisted. That's just it- Bruised is a self-resistance power, a negative one.
Res(X) will try to resist X, regardless of whether the source of an ally, an enemy, or self. The "unresistible" flag is the only thing that stops it (which Bruised doesn't have). -
Notebooks. I'm far too mobile to want to be tied down to a desktop, which isn't something that can exactly be moved willy-nilly. Desktops have been slowly dying for the last many years (notebooks passed desktops in sales several years ago), and the trend isn't likely to reverse anytime soon.
Desktops, though, have a few advantages. You can get superior performance for less (especially if you build it yourself), plus can actually be upgraded (RAM / hard disks are the only things generally upgradable on laptops). Thunderbolt might help with the latter (such as eGPUs), but Thunderbolt is pretty much only on Macs at this point, with it appearing on PCs later this year once Ivy Bridge drops (AMD's "lightningbolt" isn't comparable). -
The OP explicitly was talking about "magic/mysticism" (an exact quote), not fantasy in general. I'd argue that scifi is just a subset of fantasy (hell, with how most authors use "scifi", it's basically magic with electrons).
I could (and would) label all of CoH to be fantasy (along with the entire "comic book" medium). From the Circle to Malta. But, I can't then say that has any bearing on the amount of magic in CoH. Because, even if magic is a subset of fantasy, that doesn't mean magic == fantasy (nor magic == tech). -
Quote:If you only had the default slots unlocked a server, when you become VIP again, the first 12 will be unlocked automagically. As I understand it, it doesn't unlock your characters automatically when you go VIP, it gives you a bunch of server slots and you choose which ones to unlock.
In the case where you have more (I'm not sure if 13+ slots does it, or 13+ characters is necessary) on a server, then you have to manually unlock them. Which is actually pretty nice, since on my home server I've about 28+ characters... several of which I have no interest in playing... and instead of blowing an unlock on one of them, I can, instead, use it on an empty slot and make a new character! -
According to City of Data, the "Bruised" power is not set to unresistable, meaning that it should be impacted the mob's resistance (self resistance powers are set to 'unresistable' to keep them from being resisted). And as well all know, City of Data is totally infallible

Tunnel Rat (a dev) on Pool Customization (just a quick find, and decently recent).
Soul (Ghost Widow's Patron Power Pool) isn't intended to be Darkness Mastery, it's Soul. The powers are actually (PC versions of) Ghost Widow's powers, which predates the whole Patron Power Pools. If it bothers you that much, you could always switch to Darkness Mastery (personally, I like the look of Soul, it's a nice change).
Also, that guy with the one huge ball? That would be Atlas... the one that zone is named after... and that ball? That would be the earth.(why yes, it is a very overt reference to the Greek titan Atlas). Just an fyi

I've had no issue mezzing them on my dark/dark dom. Do you have you powers slotted with any accuracy enhancements? I don't think Vahz have any noteable defenses to speak of.

I'd save your window configuration (/wdwsave), then manually edit down the size of most of the windows (using notepad on the file that was saved), then load that file back... that way, you can shrink a lot of the oversized windows (like the target, or HP window), while not getting some of the screwups you get on pop ups and dialog boxes / friends list.
I put the event box between the target window, and the nav window (unless I have pets, in which case it just gets even messier). -
Bruising is supposed to be resistable, so it showing up as -20 is quite odd.
-
That's why they shouldn't replace them, but allow multiple texture options for each (i.e. like a lot of the parts that have shape, then a texture). Different styles and patterns in the hair, including the original style. I like the old styles more than the new ones (mostly), but the old textures look really bad compared to the rest of the current items.

AnandTech has quite a load of SSD reviews and such. The very short version is: Intel, Samsung, and Toshiba are generally the top tier in reliability/stability, if not always taking the crown for maximum possible speed (even a "slower" SSD will slaughter even the fastest traditional HDD). Those three have the most extensive in-house QA of any of the manufacturers currently, plus at least Samsung and Toshiba aim primarily for the OEM market, which demands reliability (Apple's MacBook Airs use SSDs from Samsung/Toshiba).
SandForce-based SSDs often take the performance crown, but, several have had issues with causing the system to bluescreen (especially when suspending/resuming, although that should be fixed now). Intel came out with a single SandForce based SSD (with their own firmware), and initial reports were quite positive on the stability front, but it's not really been out on the market (has it even been released yet?) to say definitively if it's a step above.
Personally, if I was going out to buy an SSD, I'd look at Intel first. -
I'm not sure how this will serve better as a tank than a Mastermind already can. The only thing it really has going for it in that regard is the taunt in the secondary, but a MM can pick up similar powers from the Presence pool. The MM secondaries generally greatly increase their survivability, while often at the same time increasing their ability to hold aggro (such as Darkest Night).
RttC has a weak aggro aura... but since it doesn't do any damage on its own, it's not a huge help.
Quote:Nitpick: It doesn't increase with proximity, it's a flat "you're in range, and get the buff", or "not in range, no soup for you".The mastermind has (Supremacy) which increases the damage and to hit the closer you are to your henchmen
