Of course! What do you want man, a thread with such strength and prettiness, it didn't die for 3 years! It even got the two powersets buffed in the process!
  2. Oh sorry didn't notice you posted a 48 build. I like my Stamina with 4 perf shifters (endmod, 2 endmod/whatever and the proc) unless you are capped on 2.5% recovery bonuses then I like 3 endmods and the proc.

My DM/DA/Dark scrapper is 50, is an end game build from the old times (no purps, no incarnate stuff, I'm busy playing lowbies in Praetoria), she uses OG and I still find her end hungry. Since I took a long hiatus, I was surprised too last night when I hit 10 on my claws/DA brute and thought 'wow I'm running 4 toggles already damn' (D. Shroud, and the three shields) - I was out of blue constantly. Sure at 10 you aren't hot on endurance but with inherent fitness my other toons at 10-22 are way more manageable.
  3. There were a LOT of discussions on regen when I left 1 year and some ago, now I hardly see one.

Umbral was the regen expert here, see if you can find his posts.

Anyway he said to shoot for 30%ish defense to melee and ranged and recharge, thinking about regen came last. I'm no regen expert but something like that:

Compared to other brutes I've played, DM/DA had the absolute worst time generating fury. I keep revisiting my DM/DA Brute, because I really like Dark Obliteration. I've resigned my self to building her exactly as I've built my DM/DA scrapper, for the sake of better comparison, but I really don't see the appeal.

This not mean as a blemish to Brutes. There are combinations I actually prefer on a a brute. I had no issues generating fury on my Elec/DA brute. I strongly prefer my DB/WP brute to my DB/WP scrapper, despite having dedicated more IOs to the scrapper.
Well I haven't gotten there yet. TBH it's all about the fury change (I stopped playing in i17 because they silently nerfed the intel gma 950, gfx were 'nice' on my old computer but in i17 they turned into crap - like when yu play the game at lowest settings. I call it a silent nerf because the Intel GMA 950 GPU family is composed of the 965, 945 and 915 cards (maybe there's more), the popular ones are the 965 and 945, and the Intel patch to fix the 950GMA issue shortly after i17 was only for the 965 GPUs, and I only found this out asking in the forums, answered by a redname, even NCSoft support didn't understand why my gfx were still looking like crap (and I had to put out with a lot of crap from elitist players who said 'Intel GPUS are not meant for gaming buy a decent system etc' - but this is the only game I play and I found it looked nice enough for me until i17 hit, but now with ultra mode and a new mac it's all good again).

I said 'I haven't gotten there' because my /da brutes are lowbies. My claws/da is like 10, she can hold her fury but I have no mez aura. My DM/DA is 2, because I rolled her in a server I don't play just to see what those ambush farms were all about. Got her to 22 in an hour solo and decided to reroll her on Virtue and play her on Praetoria. But I'm finding it easy to keep fury because of the changes now, I didn't play brutes that much before because I hated doing crappy damage again after a small walk in a map on a team, but now I do good damage all the time (just soloed some missions at +3/x3 on my 35 stone/elec, the only toon I respecced for inherent fitness so far).

But I don't know why you have fury troubles with dm/da, guess I'll discover if that happens to me. I know I'd never roll a Mace/DA with OG because I'd keep even bosses stunned all the time and that would hamper my fury, my friend calls his Mace/DA a 'tanker' because he never has fury and mez everyone. And of course everyone knows that Mace is meant to be paired with EA for maximum Strength and Prettiness
  5. You can permahaste it if you use 5 doctored wounds and an acc in Drain Psyche. The base recovery from DP has always been enough for me.

I'd leave Sleet with just the proc and use the purple set in the power that's actually meant to do damage, Ice Storm. And if you're willing to lose a few little bonuses, I'd take the lockdown quad off char (you're permadom anyway) and put 4 heal/rech in hoarfrost to cap heal and recharge.

But very nice build overall, permahasten and capped defs aren't trivial to build for.

Psi is not so bad at lower levels. Also I disagree. /Stone goes very well with elec.

While I agree /psi is amazing (I went to 50 with my ice/psi before the dom changes without stamina and running arctic air 24/7 because of D.Psyche, and in my 40s I was spamming PSW in the middle of romans with no defense besides AA because of the instant-healing levels of regen fom DP) this is like saying 'if you play a blaster go /MM or /EM the others fall below'. And Doms have great secondaries, even if you think they are not as good as psi (I myself am on the fence too, I'm sick of psi but I don't think there's a better secondary to min-max)

Thanks, but you can't put the taunt set on a scrapper unfortunately. Well I abandoned my 50 DM/DA scrapper which still has fitness, I kinda fell in love with brutes so I just rerolled her as a brute, but since I would be chasing energy defense and I love the HP and end bonuses from eradication I'd probably slot SD like this (Obliteration is another good choice, since there's no set for accurate tohit buffs):

EDIT - I agree with Des, ditch the slots in Ring of Fire and slot Fire Blast. Since Melt Armor is just a cool looking animation that costs a LOt of end and does basically nothing, you can pick Ring of Fire and use it as an immob with an acc or acc/mez HO. I know you're slot starved (looking at your subpar stamina slotting for example) but Fireball deserves a bit of love. How bout 4 thunderstrikes in Fire Blast and 3 slots in FBall, like 1 acc/dam HO and maybe two damage/recharges or dam/rech/end from sets?

  8. I was just like you, started in i9 when it took at least three months of SOLID play to get a toon to 50, and my first was a mind/emp. After that I tried blasters, scrappers, then came back to trollers and dominators (some of which are awesome in melee btw).

I found my 'love' in Dark Armor (and Stalkers but that's off topic) paired with Dark Melee - I think it was because of the controllerish aspect of the armor, mez toggles, the high activity we're used to on a troller (a mind/emp or a well played fire/kin has to pay attentions to a lot of things to get the crowd control, damage and buffing/healing right, I find trollers way more tiresome than defenders because of that - when a defender is 'done' with the buffs he has mostly blasts and not a whole controlling primary to worry about). My mind/emp and my fire/kin remain the most stressful toons to play, having to watch blue bars, who's buffed and worrying about controls, so I get your swiss knife feelings.

Well I had close to that with my DM/DA (low AoE damage tho, but the damage aura helps quite a bit especially since all the minions are out of the fight on a dark armor toon) - cautious use of dark regen, control via mez toggles and touch of fear, not to mention the endurance woes. In fact since controllers are so uber (imo, but even if you disagree you have the Bots/Traps combo everyone calls 'gamebreaker' lol) I only learned that inspirations besides breakfrees and awakens were useful after playing my DM/DA to 50.
  9. Thanks for the feedback guys. You're right Nihili, Rage is a monster of a power and goes well with F. Embrace. What I'm hoping, as Werner said, is that my Fire/Fire tanker will do good damage and be very survivable, I didn't want to make a squishy fire/fire melee toon since FM has no mitigation. If they can compete that's great by me, although I don't expect SS-Rage levels of course. Well actually I'd play a Fire/Fire Stalker but if they released cardboard armor for Stalkers I'd play it, I have a soft spot for them.

Fiery, I have a SS/FA brute, I know how powerful it is, and since I came back I've been rolling many brutes, I like the AT so much I rerolled my 50 DM/DA scrapper into a brute (and I'm leveling a Claws/DA too, besides just having played for an hour with a Stone/Elec, the only high level toon I respecced for inherent fitness after I came back, too busy exploring Praetoria and rolling new alts). But I have no Tankers besides one I haven't played in a long time (Ice/Fire, his damage wasn't bad with the damage aura and fire mele). But I wanted to try a Fire/Fire something. Tried a blaster in the past, too squishy (although I made a DP/Fire blaster, I never died/used insps so much in the first 10 levels, but no prob, usually I'm a teamer but I'm soloing Praetoria to see the arcs - the fact that I'm at 0/x2 isn't helping but I refuse to turn it down lol). Plus only Tankers get Combustion which I love (on Tankers, not Blasters lol). I should have a good ST chain with Scorch-Incin-GFS-Gloom and AoE looks good with Combustion and FSC.

I remember once (long time ago) having to 'tank' with my DM/DA scrapper because the Fire/Fire tanker was getting shredded by all the psi damage, and while I was focusing on the hard targets he was cleaning up the other mobs pretty fast, and that was before the buff to burn and FE. When farming Dark Astoria in your 20s was 'cool' I could do it on my Ice/Fire faster than my claws/SR scrapper (zombies are weak to fire iirc) and with one hand since I didn't have to worry about survival.
  10. Well I took a long break so I'm still exploring Praetoria (just got GR too) so I don't know anything about Incarnate stuff yet (I only respecced one of my toons for inherent fitness and she's a 35, been rolling new alts)

But even with 3-slotted stamina and Power Sink (I'm running all your toggles at my level except maneuvers and weave) I had issues playing the toon I just respecced, which happens to be a Stone/Elec Brute, that's why I didn't pick Weave and Maneuvers yet, at this level I have almost no defense anyway (and then again I'm playing Stone Melee which is nightmarish on any blue bar). I'm even thinking about retooling the final build since my power sink is one slotted with an endmod/rech but maybe as I add more sets it'll be better and will come back faster.

I honestly think one of your problems is having stamina 1-slotted, but from what I read about Incarnate thingies you can have the Spiritual and there's something called Ageless that everyone says it solves all end problems (again just what I read from many people who didn't wanna go Cardiac, I know nothing about these things yet)
  11. Stone/DM, you'll never be killed!

Well seriously, any tanker will do. BUT if you're into Pugging TFs like I am you may have some difficulty with being invited to an STF as main tank if you're Fire Armor, and even others, while Stoners get all the invites they want. Pugs do that because a Stoner is much more guaranteed to succeed with little work on SOs from someone they don't know. I kinda understand this mentality on STFs and Mo attempts - once I was at a STF with my kin, a bubbler, empaths, DPS guys and an Ice Tanker - all experienced people from the Repeat Offenders (I do not mean to say RO player are all l33t or anything, but since they are very dedicated to the game their 50s usually have high end IO builds and they know the game by the numbers). Well, since all we had was defense from the bubbler, Ice Tanker and empaths (Fortitude), buffed Recluse tore thru our purpled Ice Tanker numerous times, it was a chore to get the thing done. We all bought oranges in Ourobouros for the Tanker and then it was easy. Or maybe it was the empaths, both were coming from a long hiatus so they died when they theoretically shouldn't, my emp never died due to Recluse because she knows the distance to stay away. Anyhow, if the Tanker were a Stoner it would've been much easier, not that I share this mentality - I invite anyone even for a Mo attempt, if it doesn't work that's ok, it's a game, as long as it's fun.

That possibility of rejection is not an issue for me, in fact I just rolled a Fire/Fire Tanker because in this game no damage = no fun for me, but I know that I may get the Stalker treatment (which I'm so used to lol) in the high end TFs especially in Mo attempts.
  12. Kioshi

    Jump Kick?

City of Data does too, (although it's lited at 2.8 not 2.6 recharge).

They may be correct, I only picked the power once in like 2007 so I don't remember.

Problem is, the animation is very ugly and it has a 20% knockup chance compared to the -fly and 100% knockdown from AS.

The long animation thing may come from the fact (I'm guessing here folks) that Jump Kick only delivers its blow at the very end of the animation while AS hits the enemy mid-animation, so the 1.5 cast time must account for the time in AS that you go all the way down with your hands after hitting the enemy.
  13. I'd love to know as well. I have Windows just because of Mid's (also on my new iMac 27 - the top model with Thunderbolt and stuff - the Win client seems to run much better and handles Ultra Mode gfx settings that makes the Mac client hiccups a little, and I have an AMD 6790M) and another work-related program that I use often. Trouble is, both rely on this .net framework so I cannot run them in Crossover. I could deal with having to run the Mac client as bad as it is, even if my gfx take a small hit.
  14. On an unrelated note, i cannot believe I read this whole thing again (must be the 5th time)
  15. Thanks Amy, since I was kinda afraid to do a fire/fire scrapper and even a Brute I wanted to try the 'squishiest melee combo' on a Tanker, good to know it can be as good as a regular scrapper.

I just whipped out a build in 5 minutes but I think this one has good damage potential, I'd like to have a PPP AoE but Combustion and FSC are good enough I guess. This can be a very damaging tank right? 1 purple will almost cap me to most defenses although I wish I could get more recharge, well that's gonna happen anyway if I really enjoy the toon. I like RoTP so... will Assault make a big difference? I really wanted to fit RoTP here:

  16. Well I'm rerolling my DM/DA into a Brute and just whipped up this build, maybe this will help (I took Energy Mastery for the blue bar worries and with this had a ton of spare slots since I don't have epic attacks) - the endmods in the endurance APP powers are there to simulate a Perfomance shifter proc.

It has defenses like Des's build so you might get something from it. And lots of +HP and +end, plus 3-slotting Hasten. But idk how I'd do it it I were to choose Fireball and Fire Blast.

  17. I'm asking this because I saw, in a thread where some 'uber player' says Tankers are useless to his optimized teams, Nihili said several times that her FA/SS Tanker was better than any scrapper she'd ever had.

She didn't get into specifics since it was kind of a 'flamey' thread, but that kept me wondering.. Can a Tanker get close, or equal to a scrapper in terms of damage? I always found my Tankers too weak.

Now I'm not saying I want a Tanker that deals FM/SD scrapper levels of damage, but I've always wanted to do a fire/fire combo, since I already own a SS/Fire Brute and Fire/Fire scraps look too squishy for me, I rolled a Fire/Fire Tanker.

My question is, can a Fire/Fire Tanker, one of the most damaging from the AT, rival a 'normal' scrapper in damage output? By 'normal' I mean average such as a MA/WP, A Katana/SR, a KM/DA, combos that aren't known for massive damage output compared to FM/SD for example.

And Nihili if you see this thread can you get into specifics as to why you find your Tanker better than your scrappers? I know you are a very talented and experienced scrapper player so I'd like your opinion very much.
  18. Seriously, I read about the Brute changes while I was out of the game but I thought 'meh less fury'.

But then, I came back and noticed that I LOVE the changes (I know, I'm late to comment about that with all the incarnate shenanigans which I still have no clue about).

One thing that made me not level my 2 or 3 brutes was chasing fury. I felt I was always chasing it all the time and all it took was a small hallway and I started doing crappy damage again. I kept my fury high on steamroller teams but I like the lower levels and nobody's steamrolling at level 10.

But now that fury decays so much slower, Brutes have became a joy to play for me. It was not a common occasion for Brutes to be at 80-90% fury anyway, keeping a steadier 70% is fine for me.

I mean, how else could I one-shot white minions with Swipe with nothing slotted (yeah Swipe, I hate Strike's animation)?

That's why except for the outliars (like my FM/SD scrapper, which gets so much more benefit from SD than Brutes, and well I really don't have so many melee toons except Stalkers who I have a soft spot) I find my Brutes more enjoyable and more durable. I'm having tons of fun with a lowbie Claws/Dark in Prateoria, and just rerolled my 50 DM/DA Scrapper into a Brute. Not hard to do since she's level 22 after a little playing because of you know what.

Who knows, even my Elec/Stone Brute which is 50 and I stopped playing out of frustration (taking so long to kill 3 Roman lieuts and a boss, I sapped them before I killed them) may have a new life.

All in all, I think the changes have made Brutes more enjoyable, at least for me, WAY more.

    Just wanted to share

lol pretty punches, you failed at this thread my friend, I shall help you with a TRULY stong and pretty build I just made for another thread (worry not I was mocked here when long ago I had the delusional idea of calling my DM/EA Stalker 'strong and pretty', they told me the truth, my little stalker may even be pretty but strong she would never be with her pitiful dark punches):

  21. Dark Armor is my fav melee armor because of its active and controllerish nature.

I have a 50 dm/da scrapper I justrerolled onto a Brute. Now since I don't like Oppressive Gloom on Brutes (no mobs attacking, no fury) I'll be taking Cloak of Fear (also because I want her to be a Fear-focused build, that's why I took ToF as well), and that severely impacted my slotting and I had to go to Body Mastery for all my end consumption. OG is fine with an acc enhancement alone (or an acc/mez HO, that's what I have on my scrapper). The general endmods in the body mastery powers are there to simulate the recovery I'd get from a Perf Shifter proc.

And be prepared for endurance woes even with OG, I'm leveling a claws/DA Brute, claws being the lightest on your blue bar, and by level 20 I have 5 toggles (the three shields, death shroud and cloak of darkness)

I made this build now in 10 minutes, think it's pretty good, I could have capped s/l if I used a Kinetic Combat set in Midnight Grasp:

  22. That build makes me wanna slot Siphon with the best slotting for dam, rech and heal, as well as slotting Stamina properly (Dark Consumption is on a very long timer and you already have Power Sink, I'm guessing your end woes come from 1-slotting Stam) but then I'd lose the s/l defense on Siphon. I just woke up and can't figure out how to keep your soft cap and doing my ideal Siphon slotting which is kinda bad for set bonuses, but I like it because Siphon is a great attack and Energize is not up often like say, Healing Flames or Recon. I'd swap the heal/end/rech in Energize for the Doct W Recharge, you're getting very similar numbers for heal and more recharge this way.

I'd also take L.Reflexes earlier than Maneuvers since you won't have the endurance to run all those toggles before power sink.
  23. Thanks (again) Micro. Yeah now I remember on my old shade that I din't have stamina and I was always topped off with Stygian on SOs, I don't recall how I slotted if but I don't think it was much at he time.

Well before I make changes, I like Human Form, but from reading Dech's guide (and Iscariot's gide to the 3-former, the very old guide I used on m first shade) both told me to skip the human blasts, why do you think I don't want to spend time on human form? Honest question, I wanna squeeze everything out of human I can while being 3-forms, I slotted every attack Dechs told they were worth it in the guide, and Iscariot's suggestions were not very different. A friend of mine has a human WS he farms at +4/x8 (not that I'd want to farm on a WS, too many clicks, I'd get bored soon, I couldn't stand farming for long on my fire/kin because I had too much to do, so if I make a farming toon I'll just level my old 35 SS/Fire Broot)

Anyway squeezed more rech outta the build:

And hey I joined the game in i9 and the standard was that you took a week playing a lot to get stamina, we have it so easy by now lol.

As for the link unless someone shows me, I believe the farm setting that is being discussed is 0/8 or 1/8 which pretty much brings you even con mobs especially if your incarnate bumped. But I do not believe that any toon can kill a purple con mobs in one shot, let alone a bunch of mobs that con purple to you and ress repeatedly.

As I said I would love to see it. Show me the build and show me the farm live.
The ideal setting for speed and influence even for Brutes is +2/x8, bosses would depend on your build, in the case of scrappers when shields were widely discussed for farming, people used bosses on fire/sd and no bosses on elec/sd becaus elec melee sucks for taking down hard targets. I guess people farmed with no bosses on arch/mm, I was never fond of blasters, trying to get one pas the 30s now, also I was never one to hag out much at the farming spots, but so many people talked about farming with an arch/mm, this is one of many threads you can find at the time, so well, they were doing it. And now you have people to show you their fire/fire ad rad/fire blasters farming in this thread if they're willing to.

But for example, Warshades are quite squishy from the hit point pov and my friend had an human form WS that farmed +4/x8 with bosses to PL people, and he did it very well, I don't know what he used, all I know is everything just died quickly.

And, as you can see in the replies, people farm with a fire/fire blaster too, which was never touted as a contender for arch/mm back in the day, unlike in the shields craze where there was a lot of discussion about fire/sd and elec/sd. Arch/MM was so good people asked about Fire/MM (second best blaster) and got replied it was okay but nothing close to arch/mm.

I used the ambush farm example because those ambushes one shot everything that's not def-capped, even a Tanker. While far from the speed a Brute can do (due to the lack of fury in the low levels), I managed to get a WS to 22 in a few hours on these farms after I got Nova Forma, I just had to make sure I was with 4 purps on me all the time (at 0/x8 but I had no enhances and they could still one shot my tanker anytime). No softcap? I could go on with a 50 stone tank and get one shotted on these, while my frail non eclipsed WS survived because of insps like any toon you'd bring to a farm like that unless you are IOed to get there.

So yeah, a blaster can farm, but like every other toon that is built to be a farmer, they need defense. I said my fire/kin never needed more than 30ish% because I was always popping a a purple (or not bothering if I had the mob well controlled), but I could have changed his build to maintain his crazy rech+being s/l softcapped+dealing with bosses (seismic smash and the others attacks at the damage cap - btw what the hell happened, I came back after 1 year and there's almost no talk of fire/kins, I guess SS/FA Broots are THAT good now that they can be heroes).

And a fire/fire blaster like people mentioned is more capable than a arch/mm for bosses I guess, as they said they use greens since they don't have drain psyche. BTW Drain Psyche was what made all those low-hp fire/psi doms to be great farmers and most didn't even rely on defense at the time before the psw nerf. My ice/psi had zero def, low hp and DP was good enough to let her farm, I was slower than a fire/psi mostly because of no hotfeet, and like an arch/mm blaster I didn't have reliable controls because ice control, you know, is not great at it.

Hell a dark/dark defender can farm, it would be very slow but they can survive because of all the slows and -tohit. I believe that capped (or in the case of the /psy doms and /mm blasters, always having instant healing regen because of DP) any toon can do it. If people are farming at the extremes where you can get one shotted no matter what AT or level you are (that would be the ambush farms), I feel my even elec/regen stalker can do well on farms if I have purples on him.
