Psy Blast is a great set, longer range, lots of effects (immob/sleep/ku/-rech), but no Aim.
The stinker in the set is Scramble Thoughts (3 sec cast time).
Should stack well with /time for all the -recharge. On my defender I skipped Psy Scream (which is a very good cone but it's been awhile, I think I'd pick it up now).
After the 30s I wish I could skip Mental Blast on my def, the others are enough to make a good ST chain. The nuke is very good but of course will detoggle you.
(btw haven't seen a /pain toon in ages) -
You can't slot your powers so horribly like no recharge in key ones like Icy Bastion and have your attacks with so little damage and accuracy just for the sake of chasing bonuses. This build is very poor, your attacks will miss a lot and do less than Tanker damage.
I made one that with the 2.17% def from Hide will be capped to s/l/e/n (already is to e/n without hide or EA). Just a shot at a build because I dont have an IA toon but all the important parts are covered without purple sets.

Yup, when I did this SO build to get to 35%ish s/l (smashing/lethal) defense was that ina way that with 1 little purple insp you'd get to 45% (actually if you get to 32.5% def it's enough) and inspirations rain when you're farming anyway. I like stone for fire/kin because of the defense, the ability for extra HP and because it has the strongest ST attack for controllers, seismic smash, which is also a hold - it's melee but fire/kins live in melee.
About the fire/kin/fire build you posted, I wouldn't get weave for so little defense and you're lacking accuracy for several key powers like Transference, Siphon Speed and Siphon Power (although the latter is not that useful when farming). Also I'd skip Bonfire to get Fire Blast, and consume takes forever to recharge and does little damage, you don't need it since you have transference and if you did need it, you'd slot it for acc, endmod and recharge.
As for dominators... The usual top tier primaries are Plant, Mind and Fire, secondaries are Psi and Fire. All of them are good, I have a permadom ice/psi I played so much I can't even look at her anymore, but except for gravity which I find very lackluster, all of the sets are pretty balanced. I have a leveling earth/fire who's purely ranged and an elec/thorns that lives in melee, the playstyle will differ a lot depending on what you choose. -
Quote:Oh yeah. I ran 3 MoMs so far, all on Freedom, and in the first time got lucky with a leader who explained everything to me. Second time I also got a good leader so I didn't need to say anything, although it failed because people wouldn't read what she wrote (happens a lot over there, even with the most basic stuff - for example, in EVERY Lambda I've been on, when that ginormous 'MARAUDER WILL USE NOVA FIST STAND BACK', well, I stand back and I simply know half the league will die (since so many people play melee nowadays, including me lately). Some BAFs are terrible, haven't failed one yet but when prisoners start escaping and the leader asks 'Where's the leak' and nobody answers I have to run like a madman on my lil' Stalker to find it and announce. As one who has led, and will continue to lead, iTrials; that makes me
Edit:
Hopefully you are passing on the info./how to do it to others, yes?
But on the third MoM the leader didn't say much and I instructed people. Of course we ended one of the battles with 3 seconds left because two of them wouldn't read when I typed (in caps, three times) 'DON'T ACCEPT DESDEMONA'S REZ'. But it all went well -
Thanks, I asked because I never had a 'Hover Blaster'. The top-end Bane build planned for him is all softcapped.
Anyway the toon is fun! Made him as a Bane, he was 26, 2 years without playing and did a second build for soldier on SOs with CJ+Hover. Feels great on SOs already (lvl 30 now), I plan to use lvl 33 sets. I may consider getting rid of Gloom because even on SOs I can chain the first two shots reliably when Hasten is on and Burst does almost the same damage with no redraw.
I used one purple IO (pet) but it won't break the bank, plus some cheapo HOs. Any criticism/possible tweaks are welcome, the def numbers are supposed to be added by 5.54% from Cloaking Device since if you turn it on in Mid's the numbers will skyrocket because of suppresion

That was awesome, I did like 5 successful Keyes but I was just killing stuff because nobody explains things on Freedom and I was able to lead one just reading that lol

Quote:Oh I figured out, it works like Hide on Mid's, when building just leave it turned off and add the value.According to Mids', Cloak doesn't suppress when attacked. I'd have to check in-game to see if that's true. According to City of Data, it's not true ... so this is probably an oversight/omission bug in Mids'.
For example the Bane build I made has 40.6% melee, with the cloak's 5.85% (slotted) it'd amount to a bit over 46%.
But if I turn on the cloak on Mid's, Melee goes to 52.6%, that must be the unsuppressed value. Like Stalkers, Hide gives a smaller def bonus but if you leave it on while making a build you'll get higher than usual numbers (and in the case of Hide a crapton of AoE def).
I made a soldier build I like very much (Darkest Night, Gloom and all the shenanigans I wanted like almost perma hasten and pets also close to perma with no purps) which has 48% ranged but the rest is in the 41% realm, do you think it's enough Redlynne? The plan is to hover blast. Thanks! I can leave Gloom unslotted if you think it's not worth it then I'd be able to cap melee at least. -
Wow that does look good. I'm not gonna be of any help because I've been a mac user for a long time, but just wanna say my iMac has one of these, but the mobile version (6970M, 1gb) which afaik is worse than the one you linked to and even then I can run CoX almost at max ultra and Skyrim at almost max all. I can max all the settings on CoX if I don't run at the Mac's native resolution (which is 2560 x 1440 so higher than average, but I like these games better with this res than at 1080p and max settings).

Well since Epic Melt Armor's values are so bad, to get the minimum acceptable mileage from it you'd need to 5 or 6-slot it, more than CP and PP together.
I have a terribly inefficient endhog SS/Fire Brute with Mu Mastery and Spiritual I use mainly for farming, but even without Consume and Cardiac he does just fine on 50 content like TFs and Trials because of Ageless Destiny (T3), which also bumps recharge. I guess with CP+PP and Ageless you'll be fine even if you go Spiritual Radial, a good one for TW and Invul since it also increases Healing and Tohit (for invincibility). -
Don't you have Mid's?
The power needs acc, takes defdebuff and accurate defdebuff sets and probably needs recharge and endreduction since it's a completely garbage version of the thermal one, with extremely long recharge and laughable -resist values, plus it costs a ton of endurance for the little it does. -
Wow that's an excellent thread.
I started to play my 28 Bane again (since he can do all I want from a Stalker, good damage, crits and especially buffs/debuffs galore like -res, -def and darkest night, also easier to softcap) but from this thread I can see I can build a cheap secondary build for AoE carnage and a very different playstyle.
I'm going towards a hover blaster type since I don't have one of these. How much def does Cloak suppress btw? I thought it didn't like the Dark Armor and Energy Aura ones. -
Quote:Yeah, a ton of people play Tankers, unlike AT with more problematic issues. Few people complained about Doms before because nobody played them, from 1-50 on my ice/psi I was usually the only one on a team. Arcana's analysis at the time showed they were the least played non-epic AT. Then they were totally revamped. That's because Stalkers actually have real issues, unlike the Tanker AT.
Again, I do trials every night and I see at least 2 to 8 tankers in every league I'm in.
I see maybe 1 stalker in every 3 or 4 leagues I join.
Now Stalkers... I kinda like being the only one on iTrials most of the time, but while I'm struggling to make my main (EM/Nin) the way I want, I put together a Bane build in 10 minutes with 50% def to m/r and capped to AoE with 1 sec off permahasten with no purps, and with tons of -res, two good AoEs (Venom and Crowd Control) plus double leaderships and darkest night, seems like all I wanted in a Stalker revamp - melee focused with some debuffs like other games' Rogue classes -
When is Gauntlet 'great'? I was able to pull aggro from a WP Tanker all the time with my tier 1/2 archery blasts on a lowbie TF and yes he was punching the mobs for Gauntlet to kick in. He even had his weak aggro aura to 'help' gauntlet lol.
Anyway from my limited iTrial experience (haven't done UGT), Taunt seems very useful on MoM at least. On the others everyone is dogpiling the AVs anyways. Could be useful to pull the mobs away from the techs in TPN but I don't have a 50 tanker to test and people usually kill them anyway. -
Quote:I'm guessing it's because it's a stupid heavy AoE set, that's why it's getting a lot of love on PvE. It has 3 ST attacks and 4 AoEs, people are saying they're soloing at x6 at DO level (the first AoE does +def and the 3 others do KD so you have plenty of mitigation quite early since at level 18 you have all but Arc of Destruction). And if you look at CoD, the longest casting attack at 2.7 secs, AoE, is a huge cone so it doesn't do as much damage as the 2.3 second one (Rend Armor which is very close to GFS in damage and cast time in PvE) - on CoD you have to look at the 'pet' values since the momentum version is considered a different power but the fast cast versions are always lower damage in PvP. So anyway the hard hitter from the set is no CS.Ah, well, I guess I stand corrected then. Regardless, I've heard nothing good about TW in PvP as of yet, although I don't know many people who built any PvP toons using TW.
The fact that two of the attacks (one of the STs and the Footstomp clone) are usable only in momentum might hurt it too, and also that in beta the BU power was replaced by Build Momentum which grants less +damage than plain old BU. -
Quote:Yup, I did, but honestly it isn't slower than starting with KO Blow (my usual opener Defensive Sweep is 2.2 secs, there's also a 2sec attack, crushing blow).Have you actually used the set? With no momentum, there is an added delay outside of their regular animation times. It would be fairly hard to keep momentum up in a PvP zone.
And if there was a delay to make it 'slower than any other melee attack' the math gurus in the scrapper boards would be all over it (as in the beta feedback which I participated - arc of destruction originally was 2.50 secs and was changed to 2.70). The one that had a slight delay on beta was Crushing Blow and because of the complaints Synapse reduced it to the intended number (2 secs).
Anyway according to City of Data the fast versions of the attacks (Momentum) shows less damage in PvP than the non-Momentum ones.
Like Rend Armor:
2.3 sec cast time: 178.62 Smashing damage [PvE] - 169.12 Smashing damage [PvP]
1.3 sec (Momentum): 178.62 Smashing damage [PvE] - 124.44 Smashing damage [PvP] -
Quote:Yeah I'm getting used to that because in the first two toons I was Disintegratin' like a boss because the set was new and there were always other BR toons, now well, I see more Dual Pistol wielders than BR.Spread is not something you should work for - consider it like a crit that happens occasionally. Disintegrate is a damage booster on a hard enemy, which you can apply reliably. If you get lucky and splash it on the minions, rejoice.
However, this mechanism favors multiple beams on the team. With 3+ BR it becomes insane. Go ghostbusters!
As MisterD said, I get a bit turned off that the attacks look the same, but even on a corr without the good debuffs now (/cold matures so late) it seems very powerful for hard targets. -
Quote:Thanks Texas, you're right, I have this forum bookmarked but to go straight to the English sectionIt's easy to find the Beta forums. I think the problem is that you are going straight to the English section of the forums as many others do. The Beta forums listings are at the top level of the forums, not in the sections broken up by language.
For example, in the upper left of this page, under the links for OFFICIAL SITE and USER CP etc. is the breakdown for exactly where on the forums you are.
For example, while I'm on this page I see City of Heroes Forums > English > For Fun! > ALL ACCESS: City Life - CoH & CoV General Discussions > Hopped on the Beta Server for a minute...
Each of those labels that I bolded is a clickable link (in the upper left corner) that will take you to that exact part of the forums.
Clicking on English lets you see the English language sub-forums. Many people set that as the page they access since they don't need to see the German or French language sections.
But that keeps you from seeing the Beta forums sections. Those are at the same level as English, French and German.
If you click the City of Heroes Forums link in the upper left, it will take you to the top level of the forums and you'll see the Beta forums easily since they are listed first before English. -
Quote:The problem I forgot is that Controllers have to be bought, I think they're 1200 points. That completely answered my questions kioshi.
I guess ill look into making a fire/kin. Never made a hero before so itll be interesting.
On SOs I think this could farm pretty well, it's end heavy but you have transference, plus siphon speed for +rech and capped HP while EE is active with accolades, plus with 36% s/l def you can softcap with a small purple insp. I used only one acc SO in each power because I slotted up tactics, and if you're making this only for farming, depending on the mob you may not need acrobatics (or speed boost). IT's been a long time I farmed with my fire/kin but maybe you don't need to ED cap damage like I did on this biuld on some powers leaving more open slots (not used to making SO builds, they're slot hungry lol)

Quote:Only in your head. People don't hate on Tankers, they just find kinda weird all this whining about 'we don't feel needed anymore' from some (emphasis on some) Tanker players, when no AT is really needed in the game. Many are very vocal about their blatant hatred of Tankers. I don't see the same kind of outcry rallying against the proposed Stalker buffs. Only Tankers elicit the turnout of the same dozen or so players who show up to shout down any proposed improvements.
And apparently you've never been to the Stalker forums, there's always some dumbhead who say 'this would make Stalkers overpowered' (like giving them TW), and then they show with their words that they've never played a Stalker by saying that the playstyle is like this or that and are usually dead wrong. Have you ever seen an OP'ed Stalker btw? lol -
Quote:Well I took a 1.5 year break,, returned before Freedom and logged in to some toons and had stuff sold and monies to collect from the WWMy second aaccount was inactive for more than 60 days about 3 years ago my primary account might have been as well and I never lost anything. I think that was always bugged.

Quote:Understandable, I never find the damn beta forums from the list unless there's a thread when I click on 'new posts'. Had to do a search just to find them. Anyway thread about this is here:Ah, and that would be why I haven't seen it. Because I've never actually gone to said forums

There's kind of a big thread about it in the beta forums.
