Earth/Psi HO/SO farmer

Hello all,

I have recently come back from a long haitus (since i13) and wanted to come back fresh with a new toon.

Used to, I ran around with a purp'd FA/SS brute and a friend of mine ran with a purp Earth/Psi Dom.

Since I doubt I will maintaining VIP status after I rip the IOs from the toons I no longer am playing I had a couple questions concerning some builds I had throwing around in my head I would like to try as a strictly Solo farmer.

1) Is it possible to maintain perma-dom with HO/SO enhancements only, ie F2P builds?
2) As a farmer I have heard and read from past threads that Plant/ dom is a fantastic build, is this a still viable response, or have the devs nerfed plant since i have been gone?
2a) Has Earth/Psi or Fire/Psi been nerfed?
3) Any suggestions on a rogue farming toon that isn't a brute that can farm large high levels mobs with bosses with ONLY HO/SO enhancements?

Any other advice you have on a farming toon I havent asked, feel free to add. Thanks.

-Tony

My question is, what exactly do you plan on farming solo? Premium accounts are limited in several ways depending on how long your account has been active: there is a maximum influence cap, you don't have access to AE, recipes and salvage won't drop, you have no access to Wentworth's/Black Market, etc.

If you can't use IOs, then the only drops you're going to get are SOs and influence, and most players would not consider these things worth farming.

You should check out the capabilities your account will have to make sure you can do what you want to before you invest any time and effort in creating a build.

In addition, I don't think there's any way to get a perma-dom solo without IOs. Hasten won't do it, and that's the only real source of recharge bonuses that you can get solo as a Dominator. On teams you can be buffed by several +recharge powers (Speed Boost, Accelerate Metabolism, etc.), but solo you're pretty much stuck with what you get.

I am currently sitting on 8 paragon reward tokens.

I dont know what tier I am supposed to be in to get salvage drops, but the only tier I see that is even listed for what reward drops is the first one.

Anyone know what tier is required to get invention drops and the like?

I also plan on doing liberate tv farms, and maybe some blueside farms, but nemesis was the only true farm I ever did solo that I enjoyed.

About your questions: only PSW has been nerfed, and because of that the premium farmers today are SS/Fire Brutes. PSW was nerfed in radius and recharge and that drove people away from their fire/psis for farming.

Without IOs it's impossible to get permadom. Not sure about incarnating but you won't have access to that either.

Anyway, the only viable farmers on SOs that I can think of nowadays are fire/kin controllers (they always have been the to-go farmers on SOs). I started farming with my SS/Fire Brute when he was mostly SO'ed but I incarnated him to +2 first and had Spiritual, Ageless, Reactive and a buncha stuff to help recharge and damage.

That completely answered my questions kioshi.

I guess ill look into making a fire/kin. Never made a hero before so itll be interesting.

The problem I forgot is that Controllers have to be bought, I think they're 1200 points.

On SOs I think this could farm pretty well, it's end heavy but you have transference, plus siphon speed for +rech and capped HP while EE is active with accolades, plus with 36% s/l def you can softcap with a small purple insp. I used only one acc SO in each power because I slotted up tactics, and if you're making this only for farming, depending on the mob you may not need acrobatics (or speed boost). IT's been a long time I farmed with my fire/kin but maybe you don't need to ED cap damage like I did on this biuld on some powers leaving more open slots (not used to making SO builds, they're slot hungry lol)

This is the build i was working on, it seems very similar to your build with a few changes. LMK what you think.

Well ive decided to go wth the fire/kin/earth build for SO farming.

However, I still want to make a dominator.

I have no experience apart from teaming with them but would like to create something that is a TF/SF/AV/GM/Trial dominating machine. Basically a well rounded toon that is build for one thing, killing. Can you give me a few ideas on builds so that I may further use the search function and see what others builds are there? I have a FA/SS brute that can handle herself quite well with perma-hasten/rage/healing flames, but shes not as fun to play anymore.

I saw the Ill/Rad Perma-PA guide for the troller, I am looking for something around that type of epicness but in a dom. Money is really of little concern, but I would like to keep it as much purple free if at all possible. Ive got a couple bil spread over multiple toons and plenty of 50 IOs in the auction house to pull if i need them.

Also, a quick question is there a dictionary for terms like S/L and the like? I do not know what "soft capped s/l" is or if i do I have not heard it put quite like that.

Thanks

Don't know of any "dictionary" offhand, however, http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page may be of some assistance for some things. below is the basic lowdown on the "soft cap" from wiki, which in most cases is in reference to the 2nd example below regarding defense. as for S/L, it's a shortened term referring to damage types. Smashing/Lethal/Fire/Cold/Energy/Negative Energy or S/L/F/C/E/N are the most commonly referenced here on the boards. you'll often see the whole spread like I listed above, or in their common pairs of S/L, F/C or E/N

Soft Cap
From Paragon Wiki
Definition

Soft Cap
A soft cap is a practical but not absolute maximum to some bonus or stat, where it is possible to go higher but doing so produces little or no additional benefit.
Examples

The two most common examples of soft caps are:
  • Enhancement Diversification. Once a character reaches a certain percentage of Enhancement bonus to a power, each additional Enhancement provides sharply diminished returns.
  • Defense. +45% is the soft cap on Defense versus an attack. Due to the way the game's Attack Mechanics work, any more Defense past that will not make the character any harder to hit, except in cases where the attackers have ToHit buffs, are six or more levels above him, or can give him -Defense debuffs.
    • Note that in the Incarnate Trials, enemies have an equivalent to +14% ToHit, so the Incarnate soft cap is 59% instead of 45%.

Yup, when I did this SO build to get to 35%ish s/l (smashing/lethal) defense was that ina way that with 1 little purple insp you'd get to 45% (actually if you get to 32.5% def it's enough) and inspirations rain when you're farming anyway. I like stone for fire/kin because of the defense, the ability for extra HP and because it has the strongest ST attack for controllers, seismic smash, which is also a hold - it's melee but fire/kins live in melee.

About the fire/kin/fire build you posted, I wouldn't get weave for so little defense and you're lacking accuracy for several key powers like Transference, Siphon Speed and Siphon Power (although the latter is not that useful when farming). Also I'd skip Bonfire to get Fire Blast, and consume takes forever to recharge and does little damage, you don't need it since you have transference and if you did need it, you'd slot it for acc, endmod and recharge.

As for dominators... The usual top tier primaries are Plant, Mind and Fire, secondaries are Psi and Fire. All of them are good, I have a permadom ice/psi I played so much I can't even look at her anymore, but except for gravity which I find very lackluster, all of the sets are pretty balanced. I have a leveling earth/fire who's purely ranged and an elec/thorns that lives in melee, the playstyle will differ a lot depending on what you choose.

Remember that you will need to purchase the Controller AT. With the points it costs, you may very well purchase a bunch of 30 days IO license and use the character you want for several months

EDIT: As someone asked...out of curiosity, what will you farm with no IO access? And what do you want the influ for? Not like SOing any toon is expensive

Honestly I am trying to stay blueside for the time being, have been redside since i started and this is the first time ive been on blue so I am not quite sure what the better farms are out there.

Its not specifically targeting a farm for gain, but rather - this may sound idiotic to some - when i farm its just a time killer and practice against different mobs.

The two farms on red that I really enjoyed were "Liberate TV" and "Snake Eggs". Both I have died in multiple times. However, I kept going back to them to get better at taking alpha hits with my fa/ss brute.

TBH, i farm to play the game how i most enjoy it when there arent any TFs/SFs or something to team up with.

The reason i want SO is due to the fact my job has odd hours and I may not get to play but once or twice in 2 weeks. Thus, not spending 15$ on something I wont use. But while I am using SO i can still have fun farming when i do get to play those couple days I can.

Blueside I have no idea what farms are out there, I have not done anything with the AE creator so I was actually hoping for some ideas on that as well. Back when i was playing in i13, i would run the Cimereoa TF constantly with my brute and rad/rad corr, managed to get it down to just under 40 min for the entire TF once with a lot of scouting, and team teleporting, but now it seems that Cim is dead on Freedom. I also remember CoT and Snakes have the better drops out of any enemy. Dont know if that will hold up anymore, just what i remember.

I am aware of having to buy the AT. Something I have considered as well.
As well, ever heard the more the merrier expression? "The more inf the merrier"

Thanks for the Wiki post wiki! Ill try search there from now on with regards to acronyms like that.

@ Kioshi, Ill try and find some other builds that seem like they would decimate anything. Seem where i can improve them and post.

Thanks for the help.
