I could see paying that kind of cash for a feature length SWTOR movie, as in, 90 mins of storytelling, sure. Anything short of that, wouldn't IMO be worth 20-30 bucks. Heck, i've gotten whole seasons of TV shows i like, on sale, for like 20 bucks. But Starwars has a special place in my heart, and i'm an epic fan of the KoToR world, so yeah... i'd splearg. Anything else? Prolly not.

Quote:You do realize that in order to hate a movie you have to see it at least once. Even geeks know that much. What the movies lose when they screw up the subject matter is all the revenue from the repeat geek business. When geeks love a movie you can't keep them from going back and watching it again and again and again. They don't care about ticket prices when the movie is great.
Heh. Logicaly yeah, but I've known, seen, and read a great great many hateful posts, reviews, and threatend boycotts of movies that haven't even been relased yet. I'm sure if you think about it, you have too. And nearly everyone of them go see the movies anyways. And wonder why they are so sucessessful. LOL
And when movies screw up the subjec matter, they rarely "pay" for it. That's kind of the whole joke behind the cracked artical. Repeated geek bussiness just doesn't seem to be worth it. At least, not for thearter sales. I have a theory, since i, myself, am a geek. We geeks, IMO, prefure DvD's to the thearter. I know I do. I'm not a fan of big croweds. And I've spent a ton of money on a pretty wicked home entertainment unit, mainly to play videogames on, but the movies look sweet on it too.So, I personally have no issues waiting the, 4 to 6 months it takes for a movie i like to hit DvD.
I think alot of geeks feel the same way, and thus, you see geek movies kind of bomb at the theater, but make up for it in DvD sales. *shrug* That's my theroy. -
Quote:I, admit i haven't watch Return in a LONG time, and only seen it once, but i got the impression she sure enough did rememeber doing Sups at some point. Maybe his amniesisa kiss is more like a memory editing kiss... as in, she remember everything that happened in Superman 2, just can't connect the fact it was Clark and not superman at the time... *shrug*OK, here's another plot problem with Superman Returns:
In Supes II, Lois and Clark "do the deed," while Clark is unpowered. Then he gets his powers back (after being told that he lost them forever, but nevermind about that), and then gives Lois the "Amnesia Kiss" power that came out of nowhere.
Five years later, he comes back and Lois has a kid. Thanks to the "kiss," Lois has no idea where the Kid came from. During the course of "Superman Returns," she learns that the kid is Superman's . . . which means that they had sex sometime and she doesn't remember it. As far as she knows, Superman ***** her while she was unconscious, and then left the planet. So, as far as Lois is concerned, Supes is a rapist and a deadbeat dad. Don't you think she would be a little upset about that?
<Hoping that Chris Nolan can make the first Superman film without stupid plot holes big enough to drive a Space Shuttle through. Even the first two "Donner" films had horrible plot holes.>
I have a LONG list of reasons i hate Return, a long long list, i'll gladly rant about if you'd like me too.But i warn you, it'll be poorly worded, with broken grammer, and filled with hate. So... you've been warned. heh.

Quote:IIRC, he took a ship. Maybe the one that got him to earth when he was a baby... Not sure how that worked as it was a pretty small ship, but eh. I couldn't fly himself to krypton anyways, they had a red sun, assuming he had enough energy stored in his cells to get past the voids of space were any kind of star light was weak, and assuming all the suns and stars from here to krypton could power him anyways, (yellow ones) once he got close to Kryptons red sun, he'd lose his powers and die in a vacume. I'd assuming anyways, that's how it's works in MOST comics, red sun = instant power loss.Let's ignore many of the more talked-about flaws of Superman Returns for a moment. Forgive me if this has been mentioned before, but I was struck by this only this past weekend:
If Superman is super thanks to our sun, how did he fly outside of our solar system to the ruins of Krypton and survive?
Did anyone else catch that? Seems like a bigger flaw than super-baby.
Of course, that isn't ALWAYS true as he and superman from earth 2 flew superprime THREW kryptons red sun to distoy his armor in that horid infinite crisis story they told a while back... this being right after the explained how the red sunlight striped supermans powers in a comicbook where he get a red sunlight watch form batman to help Chris Kent fit in on earth with normal kids.... yeah...
Then, doen't even get me started on his "magic" weakness and plotholes that brings up...
But hey, it's a comic book, or in this case, a comic book movie. Logic is subjective in comic books.(as in, subject to the will of the dude writing the story at the time.)

I think some people are reading to much into the joke Cracked is making. It's a joke. But it has a ring of truth, which is what makes it funny IMO.
And yeah, it seems to happen pretty often. Movies with a purely "geek" nitch audience do tend to suffer at the boxoffice, they many seem to rebound in DvD sales. And Movies without fail that geeks HATE, REVILE, and generally scorn normally turn into boxoffice blowouts.
I tend to think it's because, movies geeks *love*, and *approve* of tend to lack mainstream appeal. They are quirky, about subjest matter that's typically not well known, and, in some instences are just kind of strange. Only the geeks go and see them.
The movies geeks HATE and rail against are normally movies the geeks would normally LIKE but have been updated for mainstream audences, or made to appeal to wider audiences. Star Wars prequals, IJ, and Transformares spring to mind. The geeks love the subject matter, hate the movies, but, and here's the kicker, end up seeing it anyways, along with the larger audience the new mainstreaming has attracted, and tada! Boxoffice blowout.
That's my take on the situatiuon. -
Quote:That kind of sounds like me at WORK with my office computer. It's going on 10 or 11 years old, still runs the old Windows 2000 OS, and frankly should have been upgraded years ago. But i fought too keep it a few year back when they wanted to upgrade me... this computer, dispite being old and slow, never, *NEVER* crashes. It's rock solid.I've never screamed anything at my monitor... I've never been the type to hurl a controller in a fit either.
But.
Recently I have noticed a tendency to be annoyed and actually speak to the monitor. My phrases usually come out mockingly and sarcastic.
Like;
"Really?! Are you serious? I stare at the load screen for over 6 minutes. Get up to make a drink, come back and your still loading... Really?" *Eyeroll*
Or mocking my tower.
"Oh come on... you can't be serious? It takes you how long to let me leave the hospital? Wow, what a lovely black screen I get to look at here..."
Yeah, I hate my antique rig but at least it still lets me solo. Albeit rather frustratingly at times.
But, it's slow.. and yeah, i've talked to it. Mine are more like pep talks. "You can do it... you can DO it!" (In my really bad Rob Stiner voice... yes, I'm a dork, I made peace with that long ago.) or "come on girl, you got this..."
Sadly, this year i'll be forced to upgrade. Alot of stuff that's critical to my work are dropping Win 2000 support this year, and well... i'll be sad but i'll need a new rig. -
This is a trick... the OP is trying to get me banned... >.> <.<
Typically, I don't yell much, as my computer is in the living room and well, people abound and dislike me shouting randomly at my screen while they watch TV...
My most used and yelled phrase at the screen is, and i know, it's lame and overused, but it's "DOH!" or some such veration of exasberation, ususally at my own stupidy or inaptedatude. I do, a great many stupid things when i play games, for as long as i've played them, (darn near 30 years) you'd think i'd be GOOD at them by now, but in general, i'm not. As my sig says, I haven't learned to do it well (games) but i still enjoy playing dispite how poorly i do. -
Quote:I'd go buy more tacos. I don't think either is worth it. And I have a number of the other ones, just not those two.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around a booster pack with nothing be emotes in it. (If what i read was true.) 8 bucks for emotes *ONLY*? Ah.. I barely use the free ones i have... No custome pices... no cheap gimiky perma temp power? And you want 8 bucks for that?? I'm willing to send 5 to 10 bucks on a booster pack with custome pices since I love char creation. And perma temp powers are fun to mess with, and some are really nice... but just emotes??
Get the wedding peck if your heart is set on getting one of them. At least there's costume options in that one, and some nice ones. (I use the tux on a few different heros of mine.) Unless your one of them people that sit under atlas all day chatting... then new emotes may be worth it to you... -
I'm one of them people that belive in overkill when it comes to ACC. ALL my guys have at least 70% acc slotted into each power that takes acc, at LEAST 70%, they all have +6% to hit progs in the build, set bonuses for acc, and if i train leadership on them, they take tactics.
I hate missing. I found that the romens in the ITF's i enjoy running have pretty impressive defence when they huddle up. So, i got heavy on ACC and +hit buffs to compansate. And being able to buff up my teams to hit is just a bonus IMO. Don't care how powerful an attack is, doen't do squat if it misses. -
My Elec/Elec blaster. Electric powers have always been on *my* short list of superpowers i'd like to have... >.> <.< come on, you know you have a list too.
Anyways. I tried 4 different times to make an Elec blaster... the last one i leveled to 50 out of pure spite. I WAS going to make one, no if's, and's or butt's about it. I never play him anymore...
Made an Elec/SR brute. Like him, but it isn't the same IMO as an "iconic" elec blaster type. Also made a Spine/Elec scrapper once i could, intresting combo, love the guy, but can't keep people in my aura of death.. they keep running away... i mean yeah, i'd run too... but still *that's* frustrating, but outside of that, he's a ball to play. (esspecally in big teams where i can go aoe nutz.)
Elec control looks intresting... but i'm not a huge Dom fan, and controllers don't have a secondary for the primary i like. (As in, concept wise. Not gameplay wise.) -
The "death touch". IE, Rogue, Wither, ect. Your only power is basically killing with a touch, and you can't control it. No thanks.
Followed closely by super sinces. I work with people who seem to feel the use of old spice or right guard is a mortal sin... a super sniffer would... be... bad... -
Didn't really mean to imply it wasn't an improvement. It is. It adds flexability and flavor. Also adds complexity if you want to min/max and frankenslot to get the most out of slot and power choices.
You see... funny thing is... I almost always trained fitness for on my builds for the simple fact they were good out of box powers i didn't have to slot, to SAVE slots for other powers... most builds i don't even really slot stam cause i got set bonuses that do the job. Can't do that anymore. LOL
For new guys i make, i'll just plan accordingly. For all 40 of my alts that are "done" for the most part... it'll be a pretty major "recon" for me... revised builds, new powers to explain and work into my builds, and maybe a few "throw a way" powers when i'm just stuck, and a few guys just left as is cause i don't really play them much and won't bother with the hassle.
In otherwords my issues with the change are mainly my own doing. I have very OCD like tendencys when it comes to concept, effectiveness, and throw aways powers. (it took me 3 YEARS before i'd allow my tanks/scrapper to train the fighting pool for tough and weave cause i didn't like taking a throw away power in the form or boxing and kick. It really bugged me the first few times i did it... but i'm better now... >.>)
It's *MY* issue. And I'll deal with it. Just kind of thinking, or typing out loud is all. heh. -
Quote:Yes, they are enhanceable and you can add up to 5 additional slots to them, just like the current versions. The powers are all available either at level 1 or 2 (I forget at the moment) -- no waiting 'til 20 for Stamina.
So basically........ I'm getting 3 new power for ALL my builds, which is cool, but in essence zero slots to put in them... since i'll still need to slot the inherent fitness line... (which, is normally only a small hand full of slots anyways.)
so all my builds will need massive reworking and prolly reslotting ALL my powers to try and find some slots to make use of some of these new powers i'll have...
It's an OK change I guess. I personally dislike "throw a way" powers, but with no slots to slot into my 3 new powers... 3 powers i might add i'll need to figure out what to take... that matches my concepts... all 40 of them... yeah, this looks more like WORK for *me* then a bonus.
But i am happy for everyone else who really wanted this. -

Quote:Remember that thread about Bat's "new" outfit? Well, turns out he's keeping the old one, too.
Bruce *and* Dick are both going to be Batman, thus sayeth Dan DiDio over on IGN Bruce gets the yellow oval emblem, Dick keeps the plain black bat.
Theres a small part of me that thanks this could make for an intresting storyline... not a perment kind of thing, but a neat story. Most people consider Batman an ubern legend anyways, now having him appear in 2 places at once over gothem... has potental for a good story or two IMO.
But really, I haven't had much intest or hope in DC comics ever since the infinet crisis and 52 weeks. Lost intrest. Haven't gotten it back yet. *shrug* Better then marvel. I lost intrest in that one years and years ago with... well... it'd be a long list... lets just say the X-men revamp, one more day, and civil war were some crappy highlights that drove me aways.
ATM, although i conisder myself a major comicbook nerd.. i'm not really reading anything... it's sad really... -
Really dig mine too. Not really a ton of "killing" power on mine, i tend to build trollers for control and support, not offince. But he can rain down chaos and mayheam with the best of them.
Love the combo. The BEST? *shrug* Diffenetly really good IMO. -
Pffff. I love steam. >.> I'm way behind the cruve when it comes to steam, only really started using it about 3 months ago when i went on my CoH brake and was looking for some new games to play while i waited for GR. Bought the whole Jedi Knight series for like, 15 bukcs or something like that... Mass Effect for 10... and they all work on my vista computer, a feat i wasn't able to accomplish on my own mind you. (For the JK serise anyways. I played Mass Effect for the very first time like 2 months ago. Man, i've been kicking myself for overlooking that game. heh.)
Got KoToR too, and it works... no KoToR 2 yet... which is a bummer. Hehe. I'm not really computer littereite enough to figure out how to get some of them ventage games to work on my new system, but, 10 bucks or so to get steam to do it for me, is worth it IMO.
As for the OP... eh, I had CoH LONG before i even knew what steam was. So, i have no idea. Sorry. -
Quote:You're saying they should have waited until the end game stuff was finished to release the expansion?
I think that would have been a very bad idea. The idea behind what they did was that most people would create new characters to play Praetoria and the new power sets anyway, and by the time they got those characters to the end game the next issue full of end game content would be ready for release.
People who don't want to start new characters also get to do tip missions and switch sides, more than doubling the content for that character.
Heh. It wouldn't have been a bad idea if lvl 1-20 didn't take like 3 days to play. >.> And hitting the "end game" took more then a month or 2 at most. *shrug* Then yeah. But as is, the content we got will prolly be a bit stale in the 4 to 6 months it'll take them to get issue 19 out.
Now don't get me wrong here, they needed to release this when they did to keep intrest alive and breath new life into the game, so yeah, had to do it. It's just... this "explansion" does feel alittle light for a box expansion. I still paided for it, and plan on playing, for the forseeable future, but, yeah, i was kind of expecting a BIT more... at least a new TF to go with the new zone...maybe a new high end TF... *shrug* Yes yes, i know it's ALOT of work to make a whole new zone and 20 levels of content, but, the fact remains, it's quickly blown through too. And sad sad truth in MMO development.
At least if they'd left in the incarnet system teaser, we could split our time between the new content and incarnent sharde collecting. *shurg* (yes, i too was mainly looking forward to the end game stuff.. and saddend deeply to see it put off.) -
Quote:Definitely Masterminds, they pretty much have everything from damage, buffs/debuffs, heals, controls and tanking ability(from bodyguard).
MM's are good soloers, if your into Micro managment, and are perfectly happy playing pet support then actively fighting. I love MM's, but much perfure to team with them. Mainly because, i'm going to endup playing team support either way, in teams or solo, with a MM, so, the more the marrier. If i'm not in the mood to play team support, i'm not in the mood to play my MM. Hince why i don't tend to think of them as a solo friendly AT, even though i guess they really are. *shrug* -
Tanks lack of damage gets "annoying" in the middle levels. (IMO) Lower levels the modifers haven't kicked in yet, so it's ok. Higher levels, if you plan for it you'll have a mature and decent attack chain and things get better. The middle levels, your chain isn't up and running, most sets are lacking a heavy hitter or AoE, and stuff just tanks forever to kill.
Scrappers and Brutes are where it's at IMO for solo play. And frankly, they are pretty evenly matched in solo play, so pick the powers you want, without reguard to AT. If they share powers... go brute. (IMO) -
Quote:There has been more than one thread lately like this: "I want something that does more damage than everything else, and survives better than everything else, and I want it to peak before level 20."
... that's why we have "Balance."
Every tank I've ever played (Admittedly only 3-4), and every villain I've ever played, took about 20 levels to get their feet under them. Super Strength [esp. on a tank] is a PARTICULARLY slow starter. You get zero AOE powers from 1 to 31 on a brute, 1 to 37 on a tank. You start out with a couple of patty-cake melee attacks. When you finally get the big hitter you sort of forget about the low levels; I'm told mothers forget the pain of childbirth, too.
Yeah... I rememeber the pain leveling my Invlun/SS tank WAY back in the day, with utterly crappy damage and no AoE till 38. (realistically 39 or 40, one slot back in SO days was inconaquincal.)
You know what makes *me* feel bad@ss in this game? Melee knockback, and a good, solid "BOOM" on impact. It's all about precption IMO. Footstomp, KOblow, cranekick, shieldcharge, most of the stonemellee set, if it's got a screenstacking crunch followed by putting a mob on it's @ss then it makes me feel bad@ss. -
Quote:He didn't. LOL, I rememeber reading a spiderman comic years back where peter was losing his powers randomly, IIRC, (think it was tied to that clone mess) but he still tried to use his webslingers, and nearly dislocated his shoulder in the process. Without his strength, webslinging was too dangerious for him.I'm asking if he would continue to fight crime, and what he would use to do that, without his powers.
Using his webshooters without his powers seems doable, as long as he doesn't use them on anyone with super-strength. (Doesn't stop Batman from using his grapple against super-strong opponents however.....then again, Batman has trained himself to be as strong as humanly possible, while I don't even know if Spider-Man even exercised before he gained his powers.)
I can't think of any heros that have *permenetly* lost there powers, and stayed that way but still fought crime. hmm. They lose or switch there powers for stories and story arches all the time, but i can't really think of any that were *perment* or really long term... well, I seem to recall alot of GL's turend into.. what were the called.. Darkstars??? They got new powers from special suits IIRC. And i hear Jubliee is now a vaimpire... somehow... *shrug* That's about it. And well, Superman going Blue for about a year i guess, but that's kind of different i suppose. -
Quote:Yes, I've ran that in beta. I *think* I was on the first team in beta to beat it the first time, when it was set to an easier level. (maybe second attempt) Didn't impress me all that much. I hear it's alot harder now, but the difficulty wasn't at issue. It was a boring Trial. (IMO) Basically one 2 stage mission with respawing badies. Old news. There are no new TFs or SFs with GR - there's the new CoP though
Kind of suprised there wasn't a new TF with an expansion. I could have swarn they said there'd be one... maybe they were talking about the COP...*shrug* But eh, what can you do? I'm really hoping I19 isn't too far off. -
Quote:It's the elec armor that's hurting you IMO. I've got a WM/WP brute myself and he's a beast. I didn't sink alot of money into him, as he was my 3rd brute and more concept then anything, but for a basic IO build with a few nice sets in him, (nothing bank braking) He really stands up.Alright, it seems like you have hit the mark. Brute.
Which Brute is the Most Bad-***?
For this Scenario Bad-*** = Being able to take a crowd in close range (4-6 yellows), trounce them with relative speed, and not come out licking my wounds when I am done (Cones and AOEs early on appreciated).
Right now? I am a War-Mace Electric Armor Brute. Not really feelin' it.
If i wanted to drop a ton of INF on him, jack up his Smashing/Leathel defence, and pump his HP, he'd be nigh unkillable. And the damage output from warmace with a full furry bar and fast recharge times is very respectable. (plus will powers have the endurance to fuel an attack chain that's got 95% recharge and little in endrad.)
So, if you like the mace, pair it up with willpower and i think they'll feel much more bad@ss then a mace/elec. Or, maybe Invlun. Invlun will shin in packs of 5-7 mobs, with the right IO's can easily softcap, becoming melee solo gods. They won't have the endurance a will power will, so you'll need some expensive IO's and accolades and more endrad in your powers, but you'd prolly end up tougher. (my first brute is a fire/invlun with softcapped defences, with a full invinc, or really near with about 5 or 6 mobs. He can solo 8 man +4's reletively easily. Some groups will give me issues, but all in all, he kicks butt, but he wasn't cheap to build. )
Things to think about. -
Huh. What do they look like, in general with the shield? Less dance like? More basic? That if they are different enough i may reconsider my Kin/NRG brute to a Kin/Shield brute... (not a huge fan of the current non shield animation. Can LIVE with it.. but hmm. maybe have to look into shields...)
