It depends on the server. I know sometime back the Devs posted some figures that showed that the EU server player numbers were largely in line with those on the lower population US servers. The US do, however, have Freedom and Virtue (I think it's Virtue, anyway) that have a noticeably larger population than average. Although how many of those would be on at the same time as you, and not Hidden so they showed up in Search, I couldn't say.

Yeah, the heavy restrictions on the Trial accounts were placed as an effort against RMTers trying to sell Inf. Unfortunately, they were perhaps a little too heavy handed, in that they can affect the quality of play for those genuinely interested in the game, such as yourself. (One of the mods did post in a thread after one person related similar troubles that they might take a look at maybe trying to make things a little looser.)

Luckily, the vast majority of people here are friendly (if a little...strange) and people like Shadowe above will be happy to go out of their way to try and help you get indoctrinated, uh, to help you see more of what the game can offer.

There are also plenty of EU players that think the population on their server is just fine. It all depends on what you yourself consider well-populated. Most of the people I know (on Union, the slightly larger population of the EU servers) rarely have trouble getting a team if they want one, but that's because they have access to global channels and are willing to actually put a minimum of effort into it, even starting their own. Which you can't really do effectively on a Trial account.

On the other hand, for just getting invited to a random team (which would help with meeting people and making friends), then yes, you would almost certainly be better off on one of the more populated US servers (and bear in mind that some of them don't have populations substantially bigger than Union. With more servers, they get more opportunity to divide into different 'communities', including small-town types). Although the time difference might affect how many people are on when you are as well.

Your best bet is probably, as was already stated, try getting a trial on the US side as well, and see which one suits you best. And remember, wherever you end up, the game gets vastly more enjoyable once you are off the trial and can interact properly with your fellow heroes/villains.

I agree with pretty much everything that's been said, but I think another factor is that when the game started it almost certainly had a higher average age for it's player base than most others at the time. I think perhaps this helped kick off that more mature positive feedback cycle.

Again, I was in a full team, at 3pm today, a Monday. There are people playing on the EU servers. If you don't want to take the risk of buying a full sub and playing for the free month to find them, that's your choice. But it's down to you, not the game.

There are people on the EU servers at all levels (I logged in at 2pm today with a lvl 18 and had a Tell inviting me to a team within 5 minutes, but this was Hero-side on Union), but given that CoH is heavily built around instanced missions, you get far less just wandering around in the open.

I'd say the main reason you feel the game is empty could well be down to the rather heavy trial restrictions. A lot of teaming these days is done through various Global chat channels, which you can't join. Villains also tends to have a lower population than Heroes, which won't help.

If you really want to give the game a fair try, I'd say come over to the EU Lounge and introduce yourself there. There will be plenty of people willing to team with you and show you a bit more of the game.

You won't really get to see what the game is about unless you get a full subscription, and you are the only person who can decide if it's worth trying.

Nothing stopping you making a new alt on Union to have a look. Just think of it as a head start to the raging altitis you'll develop with the full sub
