See, whereas I've always thought that gunblades were a stupid idea. Either the would have only one or two shots, and thus just be a trick gimmick, or the balance of the blade would noticeably shift once you had fired all the ammunition.
Of course, being a game, and a superhero one at that, the reality of using either pistols at melee range or gunblades comes second to how cool they would be -
Psionic Assault - Mind Probe & Telekinetic Thrust. If using your mind can be either ranged and melee, than so can pistols...

Because it's easier than saying something like 'Super Group on Villain Side'? Because, you know, sometimes you want to distinguish between 2 similar things easily...

What are the server numbers like on the US servers?
Not moving just yet, just wondering
It depends on the server. I know sometime back the Devs posted some figures that showed that the EU server player numbers were largely in line with those on the lower population US servers. The US do, however, have Freedom and Virtue (I think it's Virtue, anyway) that have a noticeably larger population than average. Although how many of those would be on at the same time as you, and not Hidden so they showed up in Search, I couldn't say. -
Yes, the team search shows people who are in missions or SG bases. However, it won't show you anyone who has Hidden from search (obviously). Also, bear in mind that an unknown number of people will be over on the Test server, in the closed Beta for Dual Pistols, and a lot of those might well be the kind who would have been on early afternoon on a Sunday.
Glad to hear you are enjoying yourself so far, though. And I'd say it was worth biting that bullet. But then, I'm biased -
On my Inv/SS Tank? Ethereal Shift. Because if I haven't beaten the entire mob by the time Unstoppable starts to drop, that's when I panic.

You know what, when I first got my PB, people were so awed at seeing me fly over The Hollows while they had to run the whole way across, only to get killed just outside the mission door. Adding Bank missions that gave Raptor Packs totally detracted from my epicness! The Devs should give me something else at level 5 to make up for it!
Seriously, I don't care that people can get their EATs earlier now. In fact, I'm rather glad. It means I'll have them on my second account waaaaay before I would have otherwise. -
Quote:Yeah, the heavy restrictions on the Trial accounts were placed as an effort against RMTers trying to sell Inf. Unfortunately, they were perhaps a little too heavy handed, in that they can affect the quality of play for those genuinely interested in the game, such as yourself. (One of the mods did post in a thread after one person related similar troubles that they might take a look at maybe trying to make things a little looser.)thanks Soul I might just do that. Annoyingly I wanted to team up with a fellow free trial dude from france, but we couldn't invite each other to a team! Kind of annoying. I worry about population, I find someone there who straight away wants to team and no luck!
Luckily, the vast majority of people here are friendly (if a little...strange) and people like Shadowe above will be happy to go out of their way to try and help you get indoctrinated, uh, to help you see more of what the game can offer. -
Whatever thesis skips beneath the flushed hardware.
Whatever parody consumes the gun.
Whatever cream faith toes the line below the tool.
The sentient punts! -
It really doesn't bother me. I didn't level to 50 so I could get a Kheldian. I leveled to 50 because I had fun doing it. My PB (and later SoAs) were just an added bonus. If they are now an added bonus to getting Stamina instead, well, that's fine.
And I like coming across Cysts in missions. -
Quote:There are also plenty of EU players that think the population on their server is just fine. It all depends on what you yourself consider well-populated. Most of the people I know (on Union, the slightly larger population of the EU servers) rarely have trouble getting a team if they want one, but that's because they have access to global channels and are willing to actually put a minimum of effort into it, even starting their own. Which you can't really do effectively on a Trial account.Since you are only getting the trial now, might I make a quick suggestion?
If you like the game, get the US version if you can. I hear a lot of complaints from EU players about their servers being lower population, and you might be better off getting a US account than an EU account for that.
On the other hand, for just getting invited to a random team (which would help with meeting people and making friends), then yes, you would almost certainly be better off on one of the more populated US servers (and bear in mind that some of them don't have populations substantially bigger than Union. With more servers, they get more opportunity to divide into different 'communities', including small-town types). Although the time difference might affect how many people are on when you are as well.
Your best bet is probably, as was already stated, try getting a trial on the US side as well, and see which one suits you best. And remember, wherever you end up, the game gets vastly more enjoyable once you are off the trial and can interact properly with your fellow heroes/villains. -

Edited after reading the question properly
One thing you should be aware of is that, given that CoH is based heavily around instanced missions, you won't see that many people just running around the streets. Unfortunately, the heavy restrictions on the Trial make this worse, as much of what goes on is found through the Global Chat Channels.
One thing you can do is make a note on your 'Looking for Team' message that you are a trial account. That way, people won't think you aren't interested if they send you a Tell asking if you want to join a team and don't get a reply. -
But it's your best side!
I agree with pretty much everything that's been said, but I think another factor is that when the game started it almost certainly had a higher average age for it's player base than most others at the time. I think perhaps this helped kick off that more mature positive feedback cycle. -
Welcome to the game. I'll see if I can answer some of these questions for you.
1 - You can change the Global Chat Handle easily, but only once. So be very sure you get it right. I believe the command is /changehandle NameYouWant.
2 - You can get the Raptor Packs in Shadow Shard (Hero) or Grandville (Villain). However, if you wait until lvl 5 (which will come very quickly) you can get one free by doing the Safeguard/Mayhem missions. These need a little extra explanation.
3 - You can do a mission at any time simply by joining somebody who is lower level than you. You will still earn xp, although you may lose some powers, depending how far down in level you drop (you keep everything up to 5 levels above the one you are playing at). At 25 you can gain access to Ouroboros, and do that flashback thing.
4 - You only need to take one of the first 2 powers in a Pool to get the third (in this case, Flight). However, the earliest you can take that 3rd tier power is 14 (and 20 for the last of the four).
5 - I can't help you with, as I play on the EU servers.
For information on the Safeguard missions to get free Raptor Pack, check out the ParagonWiki. In fact, check it out for all sorts of helpful stuff -
Quote:Overly defensive? Or pointing out that you are completely wrong in your opinion (which you state as fact).Charming. I didn't say I didn't like the game. It seems that there are too many overly defensive people here who didn't bother to read what I wrote correctly.
Again, I was in a full team, at 3pm today, a Monday. There are people playing on the EU servers. If you don't want to take the risk of buying a full sub and playing for the free month to find them, that's your choice. But it's down to you, not the game. -
Quote:There are people on the EU servers at all levels (I logged in at 2pm today with a lvl 18 and had a Tell inviting me to a team within 5 minutes, but this was Hero-side on Union), but given that CoH is heavily built around instanced missions, you get far less just wandering around in the open. The areas are totally devoid of other players. There's not a single other player character on screen. Now that may be because they are all higher level and engaged in high level gameplay, but that's not really any better.
I'd say the main reason you feel the game is empty could well be down to the rather heavy trial restrictions. A lot of teaming these days is done through various Global chat channels, which you can't join. Villains also tends to have a lower population than Heroes, which won't help.
If you really want to give the game a fair try, I'd say come over to the EU Lounge and introduce yourself there. There will be plenty of people willing to team with you and show you a bit more of the game.
You won't really get to see what the game is about unless you get a full subscription, and you are the only person who can decide if it's worth trying. -
Hand Clap. There's just something so fun about seeing that whole group surrounding you go flying. And as it doesn't do any damage, you can do it again and again and again...

I can't call a character 'Doctor Fallout', because somebody thought of it before me.
I can't call a character 'Superman', because somebody thought of it before me.
Luckily, I am both creative and adaptive enough to come up with a different name. So I just deal with it. Without trying to cheapen the name somebody else came up with. -
Let's see, worst actual injury was probably a torn calf muscle. Please assume it was doing something sporting, as the actual cause is just embarrassing...
Equally painful were the 2 DVTs I've had in the other leg.
Equally embarrassing, and rather painful too, were the many times I hit myself in the nose when I worked at the Post Office, yanking hard at bags that weren't as heavy as I expected them to be. -
Quote:Nothing stopping you making a new alt on Union to have a look. Just think of it as a head start to the raging altitis you'll develop with the full subBecause I am on trial account and I won't be getting fully subbed until after the transfers run out!

Or you could just, you know, not buy an uber-expensive IO you don't want to save the Inf for.
