Quote:This is reasonable. When the team is steamrolling, and taking no damage, and everything is fine, do I bubble? No. Waste of time. They don't need it if nobody is taking damage.
But when the **** hits the fan, teammates start dropping, and the team is having difficulty? You best be buffing. -
Quote:My pets are what is going to keep me, a TANKERMIND, alive. Let's do some math. i'll keep the numbers estimated and enhanced as I do in my build:This.
Frankly, I don't care how impressed you are with your own pets. You're teammates will exceed their capabilities in all respects. Not bubbling the team is just dumb. If you don't want to bubble, play solo. That's fine. But if you take a buffing toon and team, you'd better be prepared to buff.
I also have a level 50 /FF mastermind, and I spend most of my time on a team making sure everyone is buffed. Sure, I don't always manage to get all the bubbles on everyone all the time, but I give it my best shot.
I've never actually booted anyone off a team before, but your post sure makes me want to. Why don't you come down off your high horse and actually try to work with the team? I've heard it said here that the best power set is Working Brain/Cooperative Attitude, and you sure seem to fail that latter test.
Tough: 18% resist s/l
Temp Invuln:48% s/l
Total: 66% resist s/l
Bodyguard Mode:
6 pets mean I take 2/8 = 1/4 = 25%
This means, I get effectively 75% resist to all.
The toggles don't stack, but they do help.
So, lets say a baddie smacks me for 400 Damage. Ouch!
Good thing I have minions on Def/Follow, so I instead take 100 Damage. Much better!
But wait, what if it was a freak show tank or the like giving me that stomping? It would then me Smashing or Lethal damage, right? CORRECT!
So, 400 damage... resist 66% (400*.34)= 136
Now, BG Mode distributes the damage: 136 damage and resist 75% (135*.25)= 68
I just turned 400 damage into 68 damage.
Did I mention that I'm a Tankermind?
You are dismissed. -
Making an effort to not bubble others? No. The goal is to be able to enjoy playing my MM without having to divert my attention to something a defender, corrupter, or controller can do. Someone did say that MM secondaries have a higher end cost, so that end spent bubbling takes away from the other things I enjoy doing. Yes I have played other squishes. In fact, I play all ATs and can play each one of them pretty well. Do bubbles make me do more damage? No.
-
Ahh, in that case you could swap SS with taunt. I should note that Tough is not intended to be toggled. It's only taken to get weave and IO slotting.

Here's some capped DEF and 3 seconds short of perma-hasten. Got a travel power and build up too.

Both, Nalrok_AthZim. My pet hop to the butt kicking as soon as I'm attacked (whether I take damage or or not a different story). That's how bodyguard mode works. If there are a few targets left, I'm not getting attacked much, or there is something that needs to die fast, I'll command my pets to take it out.
-
Typically, the Def based melee were getting bubs, but once I started being in melee range with them, my big bub and maneuvers will typically be more than enough. The Def based Tank though... he gets bubs. In the case of my incident, the newbie shield tank (confirmed) wasn't getting buffs because he wasn't actually taking the alpha or agro for that matter. Come to think of it, he didn't die anyways. But, yes, I do bub the tank.
As a Ninja/FF MM, I do have other things I could be doing besides buffing teammates. Things like, attacking come to mind. Did I mention that my pets bodyguard me most of the time and get near capped def? They die a lot less bubed. Lets me spend more time attacking and less re-summoning. -
So, I'v been playing with a Ninja/FF. I went for a Tankermind sort of build on the fly. I have a lot of fun with it. I bubble my pets and get them to near softcap with he help of my big bubble and maneuvers. What makes me a jerk though? A good portion of the time, I don't bother distributing bubble to the rest of the team. I give them as needed usually. If there is a Tank or Brute, I usually pass them some bubbles unless I'm doing my Tankermind thing. Got a blaster or Corr that gets in trouble a lot? Give them the range/aoe bubble. The point I'm making is, I don't feel the need to buff EVERYONE every 4 minutes.
In the time I've played like this, I've only had ONE bad apple... a few nights ago. They proceeded to berate me, piss, and moan... after they booted me several missions into the team (that was doing really well considering the tank was a newbie and the DS/Dark MM got into trouble from time to time). I could go on and on about how I was taking alpha and dishing out damage, but it didn't seem to matter.
Now, I come here tot he boards and see some saying that they avoid buffing sets because they don't want to do pets and players every 4 minutes. I say SCREW THEM! The effort put into min-maxing the team, in my opinion, is wasted for the most part. There is no sense in shielding a blaster or defender that's doing fine staying out of trouble, thanks to a well played tank or a great controller.
Should I have been shielding that MM? Maybe. Could that MM been played better? Perhaps. Am I mostly getting something off my chest to see if others feel like I feel? Absolutely. -
So, I have a Tankermind build I'm tinkering with and I was thinking about damage mitigation. I figured "Well, I'm not going to be taking too much," but then another thought occurred. "Does Tough and Temp Invuln kick in before or after damage distributes to my pets?" Either way, avoid a bunch of damage to myself, but if the toggles kick in before distribution, my pets could be taking a lot less from S/L damage.
So, do resist powers work before damage is distributed or after?
Also, do my pet's resist powers help them with the damage they get distributed from guarding me? -
In the new missions, I'm noticing that after I die and return to the ambush spawn, they see through my hide.
This has been 20 levels of torture. -
New to PvP. Is taunt a good power choice on Scrappers, Tanks, or Brutes for Zone or Arena?
-
I'm confused about the defiance Predatoric keeps referring to. This is a defender we're talking about, right? Am I missing something?
-
Does Hasten carry over to Dwarf from like Essence Boost? What about Conserve power?
-
Back before GM scaling, my Emp Defender soloed Kraken. This would never ever happen now though.
-
What is recommended for PvE? Teaming or Soloing.
If it matters, my secondary is Thermal. -
Any time Acidon.
I'll give the other build a look. I reached my goal, so i.'m branching out into some more expensive things. -
The build goes something like this. Now, the trick I have used in some cases is to go for low level IO's where needed. For example, Blessing of the Zephyr, Razzele Dazzle, some of Kinetic Combat. Plenty of these things can be rolled with 10-15, 20-25, and 30-35 bronze rolls. If anything, you'll end up with plenty of profit, if you wanted to go for 6 slotted build up w/ Gaussian's.

Kinetic Combat can get pretty expensive, so I only worked one into my build.
My goal is to stay cheap and I've done it.
Fyi, I'm posting from my phone. Otherwise i'd post the build noe.
On another noote: trolls -> lol -
The io's thing has made the difference for my build. The heal in energy drain... that's not too bad, but I don't rely on it. That's probably due to how I have it slotted for an io bonus. I run aid other though.
-
So, I recently started a project with Energy Aura. My goal is to make great build while staying under 50 million. So, I've been doing a lot of bronze rolls and getting what I want. I'm almost 43 now with nearly capped defenses and I've only spent about 25 mil. Most of the build is done too. It makes me wonder why EA gets so much flack. Sure, there are some poor powers in the set, but the survivability is fine. It's a late bloomer, like SR. Just my thoughts.
-
Thanks.
I didn't even think about the psudopet thing. It would explain whu it's not going off for ME. -
How does it work?
Does it check for the 10% chance for each critter being hit or is it just 10% chance on activation of the power? -
I kinda guessed that this threat would bring the Energy Aura buffs out of the woodwork.
-
Two pieces of info I can give you:
1. Mid's Hero Designer with have all the IO info you need as well as help you plan oupt your character.
2. IOing out can be VERY expensive. VERY!
I'll leave the other questions to those who can better explain and go into deeper detail with them.
