I can almost guarantee it has never happened.
Defenders have too low of a damage scale to do this without debuffing the AV.
Empathy offers no debuff powers.

Depends upon how you define soloing. With Temp powers? Some people don't consider that soloing, but an empath with a shivan can almost certainly solo most AVs. A shivan with fort and AB is a terrifying thing. Add in a Warwolf and a couple of nukes ups the scale by quite a bit.

The problem with soloing those with an Empath is the lack of debuffing an Empath has. An empath solely buffs the team they're on. Of all the Empath buffs, only a few (the healing aura and the two RAs) affect the caster at all.

Now, on the plus side, an Empath with a dual build gets to use all the power selections and slotting they'd normally put toward team powers (Heal other, the rez, fort, etc.) to fill out their primary and perhaps take more useful (to them) pool powers. And this may help with the occasional AV. On the minus... there's still no debuffing to be had. Any debuffing is going to be coming solely from the primary (in the form of tohit debuffs, -res debuffs and the like.)

You also only mention the Empath - not an Empathy Defender or Controller. *Potentially* an Ill/Emp controller, with the pets redirecting aggro, could have an easier time of it - then again, that removes quite a bit of debuffing (not to mention the "illusory damage" that heals back automatically) that other powersets bring to a primary - and the controller may want to rethink not taking some of those team powers, having at least Phantasm to look after and buff. (The same is true with other pets, as well.) Being a secondary, their values would be lower, as well.

Regardless, I'd see it as a tough fight - and I'd probably scale down the AV to an EB if it were me doing it.

A lot depends on the other power set. I've had good luck soloing (with assorted pets like shivans, warwolves and Amy) using an emp/energy. While knockback can be a hassle for teamplay, it's an absolute Godsend for solo. They can't hit you if they're flying through the air or flat on their back.

Probably not.. but i'd expect a duo of them to have accomplished quite a bit.

A no attack "Group-Friendly" Defender is like a "Team Friendly" basketball player who won't dribble, run, or shoot, under any circumstances. "I'm a PASSER."

I can imagine a Fire/Emp Controller soloing an AV.

^ Definitely. I would also think, for defenders, an emp/sonic build could solo one of the very few AVs without significant damage output or resistances to smashing. Granted, without insps this would take an extremely focused build, but it looks possible.

There was a player a while back went by the name of Hobo_Healer that posted a video of himself soloing Infernal I believe it was on his Emp Dark Defender. Can't find the video now, but I'm too lazy to look very hard for it.

I have it saved on my older desktop machine.
With a bio buffed Shivan (+fort + AB) and an Amy, I think Hobo got a couple of shots into infernal before he got stomped. Super fast it was.

Back before GM scaling, my Emp Defender soloed Kraken. This would never ever happen now though.

Was this before or after the recharge changes? Just curious how much the AB was impacting the damage output.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I stalemate AVs all the time on my ill/emp. But can't kill them, even at the -1 setting. Just not enough damage. With a Shivan it's a different story, they get stomped flat.
